Farmhouse Cafe is our go to lunch spot whenever in the area and we have never been disappointed! We…read morewere greeted and seated immediately. They warm up the table with this amazing cornbread & hot rolls Today I had the fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. It was deliciously light & flaky but so filling I only ate 1 filet. The coleslaw was the best I've ever had! Ever! And I don't normally eat/like hush puppies but I always try and thumbs up; different from what I've tried in years past. My husband had the chicken fried steak with okra & mashed potatoes which I got a 'it was good' response which really means... he ate all of it with no complaints. Lol very rare to get a 'fantastic' or 'delicious' outta him. There are no booths, which is my preferred dining experience but we're not here for the comfort! The table was a little wobbly but I didn't care, I love staring at the pie shelf while dining! Nicely country style decorum. Great food delivered quickly with a smile! prices are inline with the quality/quantity! Thank you! Happy New Year!

An appetizer main and dessert We got served some fresh cornbread and dinner rolls and also had fried pickles and hot wings. Then we had the chicken fried chicken and different sides. Finally we had banana pie and coconut pie as dessert. I know we ordered lots of fried food and it was good. The pies were not good. The banana was all brown and the coconut time was so thick and not good at all. I will go back if I visited the town again

Onion strings were burnt black and tasted burnt. The rings may be a better choice. I'll be back to try the Taco salad. Great ice tea, strong!

Nice ambiance in this cafe. I like the woodsy feel. The menu looks like a newspaper which is kind…read moreof cool too. They do have a kids menu but you gotta ask for it. 12 and under. Now their brochure tout big portion sizes is their hallmark and their credo #4 says you should be saying "wow" when you get your food. So I got the biggest plate I could find to test that theory. And what bigger plate than the "Bigfoot" chicken fried steak. They were right I did say wow. Just not the amazing wow but more like the disappointment wow. I mean, the size was meh. Definitely seen bigger in many (most) other places. If you tout a name like Bigfoot you gotta make sure it's huge i would've thunk. The menu says "smothered" in gravy. The gravy didn't even reach the edges of the steak. More like a dab. The credit #4 says they buy huge platters for a reason. Well, even the platter looks more like a regular size "plate" that my knife could almost fit across. Definitely nothing impressive. And the sides ... meh. The mashed potatoes is just like one scoop. Again I've seen much bigger elsewhere. And the bad part was it wasn't even hot. The onion rings tasted pretty good though and were hot. The soup that is supposed to come with the dish never came. It was tomato soup. So I eventually asked the waiter and he brought it out after our meal was done. I thought he'd also bring out with the soup the cornbread muffin that the menu says is supposed to come with this dish. So I asked the waiter and he said customers usually tell him if they want the muffin, otherwise he doesn't bring it. So I guess it was my bad. Honestly I just hate it when they make it seem like you're the one to blame. When he brought one out it came in what looked like a plastic takeaway container minus the lid. Definitely Not winning any presentation points. Credo #3: "we cook everything to order, so it's going to take a little longer than the average bear (pun intended). I don't think the long wait was due to cooking these to order. They display some of their home made pies and cobblers. They looked interesting. So we tried a chocolate cream pie which has like Oreo crust. It was pretty good. But tbh I think house of pies does it better. And we had that just last week. Credo #5 didn't apply to us: "Nothing is worse than going away hungry from a restaurant. It won't happen at The Bear". Whelp, it did. Overall I thought it's an ok place. But we probably wouldn't go back. Their history is interesting based on what I was reading. Maybe they expanded too quick and should've kept it more local for quality control. I'd like to go back in time and visit the original Black Bear Diner in California where the owners were, just to see if it's really got that Cheers type vibe that I read about in their brochures while we waited for our food and if they really stand by their credos. And to the owner, please follow Credo #6: "we make this promise to you, our valued guest: We will read every single comment. We truly appreciate our guests taking the time to write to us. It helps us to determine if we are meeting your needs ...". If you really adhere to this, please don't send a canned response which I've seen used again and again asking to email you details and location. The details are all right here in the review. Both Words and photos. And the diner location is listed on the business page of Yelp. It'd be better just to not respond than to send a canned response that means nothing. It makes you look like you're trying to appear responsive but really aren't.

They are on all four walls. It does make it a little bit noisy if you came for a regular meal. That said, it's almost like it started as a country cafe restaurant and grew into a sports bar. The menu actually offers typical Texas meals like chicken fried steak for less than they sell a burger. A restaurant in transition? I don't know... I wanted to see how they do with the classics so I ordered the chicken fried steak. The mashed potatoes are about 50% cheddar cheese. certainly edible without any other addition. The meat was good quality, tender, good flavor. Could have used some butter on the Mexican street corn. Overall a good value at 16 dollars. Non smoking. Happy hour from 4 to 7.

Fish Fry is our go-to on Friday's during Lent and the Fish-N-Chips pub entree is delicious…read more Thankfully they have it on the menu year round. You get your choice of sides and tater tots are a yummy option. The coleslaw is crunchy and creamy and the fish is to die for, you get three big giant battered white fish filets and it's plenty for two or three depending on your appetite. The shrimp cocktail sauce reminds me of my all time favorite Pete's Fish-n-Chips sauce back home (an institution in Phoenix) now I wish Woodson's had some fried shrimp too. We will be back again next week if we don't make it to our church fish fry!
