Best BBQ I've ever had meat fall of bone taste is top notch, staff is friendly and attentive. 5/5 definitely recommend. Bring your appetite big portions.

Our first stop after touching down in Houston. Was our first taste of southern hospitality. The guy working the front was super nice and had some good suggestions. He talked us into getting more food and good thing he did because we ate it all. Got the creole sausage, brisket, pork ribs, baked beans, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. Everything was so good especially the brisket!

Not many places treat you like you are family, but Lonestar Sausage and BBQ not only has great food but the kindest of people working there. I got a baked potato with brisket and chicken and my husband got a two meat plate with sausage, sliced brisket, potato salad and macaroni n cheese. Everything was delicous! The chicken had a great smoky flavor and the brisket was a perfect mix of the lean and fatty parts. My husband enjoyed the spicy kick in the sausage and macaroni n cheese. The owner was so nice, came and talked with us for a little while and offered some jalapeños fresh from his garden. Looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu!

Ribs. I ate the other 3 before snapping this.

Finally! Wait, need more emphasis cause this is serious. FINALLY! After over 30 years living in Houston and searching from one side of town to the other. Traveling to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, El Paso, Galveston and even Pearland; I have finally found some good BBQ at a restaurant in Texas. Good enough to write home about? Heck yeah I'm doing it! This is happening! Let's be clear here. I've been convinced that the only way you can achieve eating really good Q in Texas is to make it yourself or have a friend who can cook it themselves, in their own back yard, on a real pit, with real wood, and real charcoal. No pellets, no propane but real down home BBQ. Ladies and gentlemen I finally have discovered the perfect little hole in the wall spot with real down home BBQ that literally puts to shame every single well known famous restaurant that has been bragged about and honored with blue ribbons and crap for years in Houston. This little gem of a place has so much passion in their Q that they make all of their sausages homemade. No fake chemicals and processing are in these babies. Hands down the very best sausages I've ever had in any restaurant in all of Texas. The sausages alone are worth the drive to this place. Those sausages I tried were so freaking good that I forgot to take a picture of them. I was at an Awe. The ribs were very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Same as the chicken. The term YUM is an understatement. As for the Brisket, I can't really judge that one for you as I am honestly not a brisket kind of guy. I like me some ribs and I like me some sausages and some good ole BBQ chicken. I tried the brisket and I honestly wasn't that impressed but remember, I don't do brisket much unless it's chopped beef and I wasn't in the mood at the time for a sandwich. Now back to finally. I BBQ myself and there are times where you just don't want to cook for yourself and wish there was a place you can depend on to satisfy the Q urge. It's been impossible to find that anywhere in Houston without some huge disappointment. Massive disappointment. Expensive disappointment. Lonestar Sausage and BBQ did not disappoint. The owner Kevin Mason greeted us with a smile and was very generous to even offer us some tasters that immediately encouraged me to place a big order to take some home for the evening. Dayum those sausages are freaking gud!!! Keep Q'ing and Prosper!

The food was so good I didn't get to take a picture of it! Mr. Kevin does a phenomenal job at providing excellent customer service and delicious food!! I had the two meat plate (brisket and ribs), baked beans and potato salad and an extra side of his swamp sausage (handmade sausage with pork and beef). Everything was delicious - don't forget to ask for the family BBQ sauce. You won't be disappointed. What's crazy, I've driven by this little shop numerous of times and never noticed it until a good friend of mine, Mr. Gunn, invited me. I will be returning since the ambiance is welcoming, food is delicious, and Mr. Kevin made me feel like family. 10/10 recommend!

Fantastic Brisket & Sausage Meal !!!

I had no idea about this little gem spot until I saw it on an episode of Localish a year or so ago. I finally decided that yesterday afternoon was the day for my first visit to Lonestar Sausage & Bbq. It was for sure a long ride, like 45 minutes or more. However, it was worth it ! I ordered the Lean Brisket & Sausage Plate with mac n cheese and collard greens for the sides. I then got a slice of that Yellow Cake with Fudge Frosting after the meal. Everything was really delicious, juicy, tender and made with pure love. The brisket was imo one of the 3 best brisket I have ever had right after # 1 nationally ranked Franklin Bbq in Austin. It was really well-seasoned and salted perfectly. It was really tender with an ideal amount of fat to beef ratio. The bark was very good as well as the meat's thickness. The solid smokiness with a hint of very subtle sweetness packed a good punch as good TX Bbq should. It was on the flat side as I tend to prefer for this cut, but definitely not dry or too lean by any means. The sausage was also one of the best I have ever had with a fatty, well-spiced flavor to it. It wasn't slimy though. It had that nice crunch on the outside layers contrasting the mushier inside. You could really tell it was handmade and not store-bought or full of unknown chemicals. The mac n cheese was very fluffy despite looking rich. It had a sour cream profile with some peppery notes I think. It was unique in a way and definitely appreciated as a side imo. I am a fan of collard greens in general and these were basic and yet very good with a moist texture and sourish, earthy taste containing some sausage in it too. I am open to trying more sides here, but these two are going to heavily be considered when I return due to enjoying them very much. The bbq sauce was clearly handmade with a runny texture and great balance of sweetness and tartness. Both meats on my tray honestly did not even need any sauce, but a little on some bites is extra fun when consuming bbq. That yellow cake with fudge was really good, buttery, soft, moist, crumbly and fresh with a really good chocolaty icing layer. Both parts of the cake were very tasty and I had to save some for my dad, bc he grew up on this cake up North. It had that taste n feel like one made by an older family member for decades. Classic, retro, so comforting and sweet. It's also one of my favorite cakes along with a dark chocolate midnight cake. Yellow cake is seemingly uncommon and it's a very flavorful one. As for the service. The guy at the window who took my order was very welcoming, helpful and polite. The owner who's also a former Houston Cougar football player from the late 80s and retired cop was very engaging, really friendly, really kind and so attentive to his guests. You can really tell he's a true people person with excellent bbq skills to go with it. I plan to make a trip to this place once a year when I can.

This place lacks adequate AC for dine in orders. You have to pay cash for homemade desserts. Interesting?? The lack of AC really affects the attitude of the employees. Bread cost extra wow! This is a BBQ place correct. Now to be fair I am not sure what they ordered so maybe bread is extra. We opened our to go containers before we left as instructed. The food looked wonderful. Well, the catfish dinners were scrumptious. The fried Boudin egg rolls were exceptionally awesome. I ordered the 3 meat plate which came with two sides and bread. I ordered brisket, sausage, ribs, beans and potato salad, the food was very tasty, and the bbq sauce was very good. I would not consider this a place for dine in, but take was efficient and well managed. Please fix your AC!!!

I've had Lonestar bookmarked for a long time and finally got by there for lunch last week. It's a small restaurant inside with maybe 3-4 tables inside with a couple of picnic tables outside. I ordered the Big Texas entree which is 1/2 chicken with 2 sides for $12.10. I chose beans and potato salad and the food was ready in about 10 minutes and served on a large platter with bbq sauce and sliced bread. This was a very good meal. The cut up 1/2 chicken was juicy and flavorful and I enjoyed it (4). The beans were excellent (5) and the mustard based potato salad was cool and creamy and not tart. I also like their bbq sauce here. It's a little runny but tasty. This is a meal that I would be happy to order again and was also a great value. Lonestar is an excellent choice for bbq.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service is also great! While we were eating, staff would regularly check all of the tables to check if anyone needed anything. The staff taking our order also chatted with us about other BBQ spots we've been to. Everything was such a great experience and the quality of the food is 100/10!

My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.

I love Texas BBQ so I've been to all the Austin, Dallas, and Houston spots especially on Texas Monthly. Brisket was dry, chicken was brined for a little too long and gave a tire texture. Potato salad was too wet, too fatty, and didn't provide the acidity to contrast the fat. The sausage was decent, I give 4/5 stars. It was thick, juicy, and was similar to other places such as Truth, Corkscrew, Terry Black's, etc. The elotes was also too acidic for my liking and the cheese on top didn't mix well with the dish. Finally, the brisket was just ok. I must've gotten a lean piece because it had the texture of chicken thighs. The bark wasn't flavorful or smoky. Barbecue sauce was what I expected. Worchestchire, ketchup, and brown sugar elements make up for an average BBQ spot. Overall, I would come back and order 10 of the brisket egg rolls and call it a meal.
