    The Big Texan Brisket Plate

Got lean brisket, hot link, Cajun link, dirty rice, Mac and green beans. Although they're known for their sausage, don't overlook the brisket -- it's the best I've ever had (I'm from Kentucky, but I've had plenty from all over). BBQ sauce was really good, coated everything with a perfect sweetness and tang. Sides could have all been their own stars. No bad notes. The people were great as well.

Our first stop after touching down in Houston. Was our first taste of southern hospitality. The guy working the front was super nice and had some good suggestions. He talked us into getting more food and good thing he did because we ate it all. Got the creole sausage, brisket, pork ribs, baked beans, collard greens, and Mac and cheese. Everything was so good especially the brisket!

Ribs, sausages, brisket, dirty rice and Mac n cheese Not a full plate!!! They give you a lot

Plenty of food given on all plates! Flavor is very bland IMO... Brisket is very tender but lacks flavor. I mean nothing but moist, tender meat... Mac n cheese.. no! Again no flavor at all... Dirty rice was ok and ribs were tender as well. Although you get plenty of food, it doesn't come with much flavor. Very nice staff. Clean environment. I recommend you trying for yourself! There was only 1 person doing everything today, so maybe that was a contributor.... ‍‍‍ This is in no way putting down the restaurant nor staff.... JMO on what I experienced on my visit.

Not many places treat you like you are family, but Lonestar Sausage and BBQ not only has great food but the kindest of people working there. I got a baked potato with brisket and chicken and my husband got a two meat plate with sausage, sliced brisket, potato salad and macaroni n cheese. Everything was delicous! The chicken had a great smoky flavor and the brisket was a perfect mix of the lean and fatty parts. My husband enjoyed the spicy kick in the sausage and macaroni n cheese. The owner was so nice, came and talked with us for a little while and offered some jalapeños fresh from his garden. Looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu!

Ordering some today! Taste So good! Just like home! Number 1 in Houston! Also, the ribs are great!

Ribs. I ate the other 3 before snapping this.

Finally! Wait, need more emphasis cause this is serious. FINALLY! After over 30 years living in Houston and searching from one side of town to the other. Traveling to Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, El Paso, Galveston and even Pearland; I have finally found some good BBQ at a restaurant in Texas. Good enough to write home about? Heck yeah I'm doing it! This is happening! Let's be clear here. I've been convinced that the only way you can achieve eating really good Q in Texas is to make it yourself or have a friend who can cook it themselves, in their own back yard, on a real pit, with real wood, and real charcoal. No pellets, no propane but real down home BBQ. Ladies and gentlemen I finally have discovered the perfect little hole in the wall spot with real down home BBQ that literally puts to shame every single well known famous restaurant that has been bragged about and honored with blue ribbons and crap for years in Houston. This little gem of a place has so much passion in their Q that they make all of their sausages homemade. No fake chemicals and processing are in these babies. Hands down the very best sausages I've ever had in any restaurant in all of Texas. The sausages alone are worth the drive to this place. Those sausages I tried were so freaking good that I forgot to take a picture of them. I was at an Awe. The ribs were very well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Same as the chicken. The term YUM is an understatement. As for the Brisket, I can't really judge that one for you as I am honestly not a brisket kind of guy. I like me some ribs and I like me some sausages and some good ole BBQ chicken. I tried the brisket and I honestly wasn't that impressed but remember, I don't do brisket much unless it's chopped beef and I wasn't in the mood at the time for a sandwich. Now back to finally. I BBQ myself and there are times where you just don't want to cook for yourself and wish there was a place you can depend on to satisfy the Q urge. It's been impossible to find that anywhere in Houston without some huge disappointment. Massive disappointment. Expensive disappointment. Lonestar Sausage and BBQ did not disappoint. The owner Kevin Mason greeted us with a smile and was very generous to even offer us some tasters that immediately encouraged me to place a big order to take some home for the evening. Dayum those sausages are freaking gud!!! Keep Q'ing and Prosper!

The food was so good I didn't get to take a picture of it! Mr. Kevin does a phenomenal job at providing excellent customer service and delicious food!! I had the two meat plate (brisket and ribs), baked beans and potato salad and an extra side of his swamp sausage (handmade sausage with pork and beef). Everything was delicious - don't forget to ask for the family BBQ sauce. You won't be disappointed. What's crazy, I've driven by this little shop numerous of times and never noticed it until a good friend of mine, Mr. Gunn, invited me. I will be returning since the ambiance is welcoming, food is delicious, and Mr. Kevin made me feel like family. 10/10 recommend!

I had no idea about this little gem spot until I saw it on an episode of Localish a year or so ago. I finally decided that yesterday afternoon was the day for my first visit to Lonestar Sausage & Bbq. It was for sure a long ride, like 45 minutes or more. However, it was worth it ! I ordered the Lean Brisket & Sausage Plate with mac n cheese and collard greens for the sides. I then got a slice of that Yellow Cake with Fudge Frosting after the meal. Everything was really delicious, juicy, tender and made with pure love. The brisket was imo one of the 3 best brisket I have ever had right after # 1 nationally ranked Franklin Bbq in Austin. It was really well-seasoned and salted perfectly. It was really tender with an ideal amount of fat to beef ratio. The bark was very good as well as the meat's thickness. The solid smokiness with a hint of very subtle sweetness packed a good punch as good TX Bbq should. It was on the flat side as I tend to prefer for this cut, but definitely not dry or too lean by any means. The sausage was also one of the best I have ever had with a fatty, well-spiced flavor to it. It wasn't slimy though. It had that nice crunch on the outside layers contrasting the mushier inside. You could really tell it was handmade and not store-bought or full of unknown chemicals. The mac n cheese was very fluffy despite looking rich. It had a sour cream profile with some peppery notes I think. It was unique in a way and definitely appreciated as a side imo. I am a fan of collard greens in general and these were basic and yet very good with a moist texture and sourish, earthy taste containing some sausage in it too. I am open to trying more sides here, but these two are going to heavily be considered when I return due to enjoying them very much. The bbq sauce was clearly handmade with a runny texture and great balance of sweetness and tartness. Both meats on my tray honestly did not even need any sauce, but a little on some bites is extra fun when consuming bbq. That yellow cake with fudge was really good, buttery, soft, moist, crumbly and fresh with a really good chocolaty icing layer. Both parts of the cake were very tasty and I had to save some for my dad, bc he grew up on this cake up North. It had that taste n feel like one made by an older family member for decades. Classic, retro, so comforting and sweet. It's also one of my favorite cakes along with a dark chocolate midnight cake. Yellow cake is seemingly uncommon and it's a very flavorful one. As for the service. The guy at the window who took my order was very welcoming, helpful and polite. The owner who's also a former Houston Cougar football player from the late 80s and retired cop was very engaging, really friendly, really kind and so attentive to his guests. You can really tell he's a true people person with excellent bbq skills to go with it. I plan to make a trip to this place once a year when I can.

This place lacks adequate AC for dine in orders. You have to pay cash for homemade desserts. Interesting?? The lack of AC really affects the attitude of the employees. Bread cost extra wow! This is a BBQ place correct. Now to be fair I am not sure what they ordered so maybe bread is extra. We opened our to go containers before we left as instructed. The food looked wonderful. Well, the catfish dinners were scrumptious. The fried Boudin egg rolls were exceptionally awesome. I ordered the 3 meat plate which came with two sides and bread. I ordered brisket, sausage, ribs, beans and potato salad, the food was very tasty, and the bbq sauce was very good. I would not consider this a place for dine in, but take was efficient and well managed. Please fix your AC!!!

I've had Lonestar bookmarked for a long time and finally got by there for lunch last week. It's a small restaurant inside with maybe 3-4 tables inside with a couple of picnic tables outside. I ordered the Big Texas entree which is 1/2 chicken with 2 sides for $12.10. I chose beans and potato salad and the food was ready in about 10 minutes and served on a large platter with bbq sauce and sliced bread. This was a very good meal. The cut up 1/2 chicken was juicy and flavorful and I enjoyed it (4). The beans were excellent (5) and the mustard based potato salad was cool and creamy and not tart. I also like their bbq sauce here. It's a little runny but tasty. This is a meal that I would be happy to order again and was also a great value. Lonestar is an excellent choice for bbq.

They have some delicious desserts and I vaguely remember them from the few times I tried them, but I try to eat both halves of the sandwich and that's it, can't eat another bite. The service is always great, the people are well trained and are pleasant to deal with. Ambiance, what ambiance? It's a great place to go get your sandwich and we take it home to eat and watch TV. The one time we ate there, it took away from the glorious experience of eating that mouth watering goodness. There were other distracting people around us and keeping me from concentrating on my sandwich!

For a place that has been voted the #1 restaurant in America before, it was a lovely experience! This location is a little over 30 mins away from me, which is beyond the distance I'm willing to drive for a meal in the middle of the week, but as it was my birthday week I decided to treat myself. And I am so glad that I did. I can say that everything about the experience eating here was pleasant. For one the fact that I arrived here after 7pm and they close at 8pm, yet there was a steady influx of customers speaks to just how popular they are. There was one person in line behind me and I felt bad for them a little because I knew I was going to ask a bunch of questions because I've been looking forward to coming here and it is out the way so I was going to ask the right questions to make sure I got something I liked. With that being said, the man taking my order was very helpful and patient. I know I took at least 5 mins to order yet he was cool answering all of the questions I had. I generally hate when the kiosk asks if I'd like to tip when I'm not dealing with a waiter but the service he provided paired with the amount of questions I had led me to leave a tip. Again I had to drive a distance to eat here so I went in knowing that I was going to be ordering food to eat there as well as being able to bring some home, because there is no telling when the next time will be that I want to make the trek. To keep things balanced, I ordered a cold and a hot sandwich. I went with a build your own for the cold sandwich and went with turkey and roast beef for meats, deli provolone for cheese, spring lettuce, roasted red peppers, red onion, olive smear and house marinated pepper blend for toppings, sub oil, spicy deli mustard and basil pesto (on the side) for extras, all on a crusty Italian roll for the bread. For the hot sandwich I went with the chicken parm and added light red onions to it. I also made my first sandwich a combo with chips and a drink. They serve Pepsi products for the fountain drinks and Zapp's products for the chips. One pet peeve I do have with places is that when I order an additional meat and don't feel like I got extra but instead just less of my other meat to make up for my extra. That is how I feel about the pastrami that I had added to my cold sandwich. Both sandwiches were really good. I wouldn't say that they were the best sandwiches I've ever had but they were solid. The cold sandwich was my creation so take that as you will. The flavors on it was all good, but nothing shooting over the moon to me. All of the food on the sandwich looked and tasted fresh. The hot sandwich is one of theirs with a slight add from me and it again was good but the flavor didn't just jump out for me. Making a chicken parm exceptional takes some work so I'm not mad at what they serve and it is cooked and served with an excellent broil on it. The bread on both sandwiches I will say was a stand out because it held up and had a good crust and chew while still being soft. I will say that I wasn't able to try many of their menu favorites because I don't eat pork, so some of those may be even more delicious. No complaints on any of the flavor but wouldn't have been made at a few more unctuous notes to the palate. I also got the cannoli which was cool. Nothing significant but I'm not mad that I got it. I would also like to note that the bathroom is kept very nice and smells well. I'm 90% sure that someone was blowing up the toilet before I went in yet it didn't stink when I went in. Not sure if they just sprayed a lot or the upkeep but either way kudos. I generally would've gotten food like this to go, but given the distance and that I wanted to get as fresh of a food experience as I can I did dine in. Getting there at the end of the day I was there as they were closing up. As they closed up the staff kept a respectable distance from me as I ate as to not disturb my food with the cleaning. Now that I've eaten here I can honestly say that I get why it has so much hype. Though I wasn't wowed by the food I was wowed by the service and the food was delicious. I'm not sure of when I'll next make the trip here but I do know that I'll feel confident that it will be a meal well enjoyed when I do. Thought I posted this review lol so I'll add to it since I returned again. Again great service and delicious food. The food here is so good and the location is so out of the way that both times I've gone I've left with 2 sandwiches for myself. I again got a Chicken Parm in all of it's deliciousness but this time made my cold BYO sandwich into a hot one and OMG was it banging! This place serves up deliciousness with ease.

Walk up counter service with a menu split neatly into cold cut and oven baked sandwiches. Going with the Devito, my mind was thoroughly blown by how flavorful the red sauce and meats were all together, it had a combination of textures from the crusty bread cured cuts that made it fun to chew through every bite. My Stallone was also just such a pleasant mix of flavor with the pesto playing a bigger role on the cold cut options. This is one of the places where I feel like you can spin the wheel and get a winner with whatever fate decides. Things seem pretty easy and affordable here. Portions were pretty big here and around $12-$15 a sandwich, more than enough for a single person with some for a midnight snack later. The girl at the counter recommended getting the hot peppers so I got some on the side, and she was absolutely right--I'll definitely be adding those to future sandwiches. My husband ordered the Danza but accidentally received the Dinero. He still enjoyed it and gave it a solid 7/10. We also tried the Chicken Parmesan. Located inside a gas station, so it's easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. Luckily, there wasn't much of a line when I visited. The staff was friendly and polite. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. One thing I didn't realize beforehand is that they specialize in chicken wings and chicken strips rather than offering a full range of fried chicken pieces. They do have a few non-chicken items, though. I'll definitely be back to try the jerk burger. The chicken itself was hot, crispy, juicy, and well seasoned. Their dry seasoning has a unique flavor, but I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my order was missing the dipping sauces, so I can only judge the chicken on its own. It honestly doesn't need sauce, but I'm on a lemon pepper quest and was reaaaallllly looking forward to trying the jerk lemon pepper. The mac and cheese was probably the best I tried anywhere. Cheese pull and everything. Better than most sit down restaurants. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dirty rice. It's the first place I've found where the rice isn't mushy. The fries were well seasoned and came as crinkle-cut fries, which I actually preferred. I noticed that the fries shown on the menu and in some customer photos look different from what I received, so they may be experimenting with them. If so, I hope the crinkle-cut fries stay. I appreciated that they include jalapeños and rolls with the chicken orders. I ended up chatting with a few other customers, and they were there for the same reason I was: they'd seen Instagram videos calling Southern Jerks "the best chicken in Houston." That's a bold claim in a city with so many outstanding fried chicken spots. I wouldn't personally give it the top spot, but it absolutely holds its own and is well worth trying. It was fun watching the chicken being freshly fried while waiting for my order. My only real complaints were the missing sauces and the price. It's a little more expensive than I expected, especially considering the location, and you have Frenchy's, Popeyes, Timmy Chans, and a few other local spots all there competing. Overall, Southern Jerks serves flavorful chicken, excellent sides, and the best mac and cheese I've had anywhere. While I don't think it's the best fried chicken in Houston, it's definitely worth visiting to decide for yourself.

I ordered the family pack with wings, a large side of collards and rice. Also got a whole wing special with fries. The food was still piping hot when I got home about 20 mins later. Everything was cooked fresh so there will be a wait. I waited about 20 mins. Prices were high because it's chicken but we enjoyed it.

This is the one and only location here and a great stop for all kinds of sandwiches. Their menu includes innovative offerings and iconic flavors, essentially the best of both worlds. If you're craving a classic or simple sandwich, you can get that. However, if you're looking for something special or out of this world, you can also get it. Ike's specializes in sandwiches with their Dutch Crunch bread and Dirty Sauce, both unique in its own way. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan, or on a gluten-free diet, their menu has it all. I personally am not a super fan of the Dutch Crunch bread since I find it a bit too harsh on the palate and somewhat dry, but love the Dirty Sauce (make it extra or on the side). I enjoy subbing the Dutch Crunch with either French or Sourdough. With over 300 unique sandwiches on the menu, there's a sandwich for everyone. My favorites have been the Menage A Trois (halal chicken, honey mustard, BBQ Sauce, real honey, pepper jack, swiss, cheddar), Ike's Reuben (pastrami, mack Sauce, purple slaw, gouda), Joker (all beef meatballs, fried zucchini, Ike's red pesto, ranch), and Grant Pinkerton, a Houston exclusive (Pinkerton Brisket, pastrami, BBQ aioli, provolone). All of my sandwiches have been stuffed and tasty, worth it! However, I find some menu items to be subpar in quality and flavor (chicken strips). The service is typically quick, efficient, and friendly. There are more than a handful of tables inside and some out on the patio. The shared parking lot can get very crowded as it is packed with lots of other businesses.

Here's a polished Google review version that keeps it honest but ends strong:…read more Review: I've been an occasional customer since this place first opened. Honestly, in the beginning it was pretty rough, slow service, incorrect orders, and the sandwiches just weren't as good as what I was used to getting in California. That said, I kept coming back every now and then hoping things would improve, and I'm glad I did. My last few visits have been great. The sandwiches have been fresh and really tasty, and the customer service has been solid. I also spoke with Jose, and he mentioned he's been working hard to turn things around, and it definitely shows. Not sure why they don't have more locations yet, but I hope they expand soon!
