So this is for an experience about a month ago. Haven't had the time to get to this until now. Came to this part of town to pick something up on a Saturday, and afterwards, needed to find something for lunch. BBQ sounded good, and I found this place. When I get to the place, I wasn't even sure whether it was opened because of the fact that there were probably 2 or 3 cars in the parking lot, maybe at 11:45am. Fine, I thought, let me just check it out anyways as I was hungry. One thing that didn't hit me when I got out of my car was the typical smoke in the air outside a BBQ restaurant. Didn't think of that at that time but I found out why when I started eating. When I entered the place, I was the first and only customer. Staff was nice, and the service line was quick. I got the two-meat plate with brisket and turkey, with potato salad and creamed corn as the sides plus a toast, for a grand total of $22, tax included, what a steal. Now the food. Brisket was the most disappointing. I'm not a smoke-chasing BBQ fiend, but I had my share to know enough. There wasn't much smoke taste in there, and no smoke ring at all, which made me question whether it is smoked at all. If you tell me this is baked or steamed brisket, I would have believed you. Turkey was lacking smoke flavor as well, but brined well and not too dry, so I did enjoy that. Sides were decent. But the best part was the toast - it was buttery, crunchy on the outside and soft inside. I think I saw maybe two or three groups in by the time I left at maybe 12:30pm. My conclusion is, Lyndon's needs to do better, and to make sure you actually smoke the meat. The only two reasons I'd come back are the low price and the toast. I can do better for taste if I go to Pappa's or Rudy's, and for toast, I can go to Raising Cane's. read more

So i definitely wanna tell you about this great find that I'm sure I'm just last to try. I was invited out to lunch by a group of friends. When you pull up to the location it is a pretty nice establishment in the middle of nowhere. When you walk in you are greeted by the usual smells of smoked BBQ. When you place your order it is like a cafeteria style line. Now I know I didn't order the norm, but I did have one of the best chicken fried steaks. I also ordered the peach cobbler because you just have to try that or the banana pudding at any BBQ place. It's what makes it great or just good. In my opinion and let me just say the peach cobbler did not disappoint. My family ordered the BBQ baked potato and the size of this meal is something that you could share. It's been at least 10 years since I've eaten here so I thought it was time to give them another chance. I say that because my memory was of an unremarkable visit back then. Since then Houston's bbq game has improved dramatically. Unfortunately nothing has changed here over that time. I came for lunch this week and remembered the attractive entrance with the large menu board along with the spacious interior decorated in Texas country chic. This is a counter service restaurant where you go down a serving line and request your food. I chose a sliced brisket sandwich ($8.75) with a side of beans ($2.75) and adding a drink it was under $15 with tax. They have a drink station and fixings bar that also has bottles of bbq sauce there. I then went to find a table and while there were many, several of them needed to be bussed and I thought that looked a little sloppy. I will admit that my brisket had a nice bark on it as seen in my picture but the meat was chewy and should have been more tender. I added some of the sauce (which I liked) to wet it down but it still was too chewy. Flavor wise it was ok but I have had better. I did like the taste of the beans which were light kidney beans but I thought the serving size wasn't large enough. I understand that brisket beef prices are high but sides surprise me with how expensive they are relative to their serving size. I think of Lyndon's as bbq that is lower to middle tier. Because of my chewy brisket I should give a 2 but I believe that Lyndon's is probably a little better than that with their other menu offerings so I will give a 3. However it probably will be at least 10 more years before I return because of so many other better bbq options out there. read more

What a hidden gem! We stopped in for a late lunch as we were driving through the area, and just randomly picked a restaurant because we were we're ravenous. We had no idea what we were walking into, but we fell in love immediately. The staff was amazing! They were also friendly and helpful. The chopped brisket sandwich was delicious. My daughter had chicken fried steak and loved it. The french fries were perfect! The coleslaw with some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend! My husband is a bit of a brisket snob, and he was really happy with his plate. He said the brisket was perfectly lean and exactly what he was hoping for. The guys there are so personal in a good way , like being at a family dinner. Excellent sugestions. My wife had the stuffed baked potato with chopped brisket , he litterly pulled a brisket out and sliced off and chopped up fresh , ( not out of steam table soaked in sauce. Potato was big enough for two meals . I had the natural brisket sliced and stacked on a freshly toasted poorboy bun with two sides , plus I ordered a half order of the best onion rings ever. He said they're 10 rings in a 1/2 order but he failed to tell us they are huge rings , I gave 3 rings to another customer we met in line. You have a option of natutal or lean brisket and fat is flavor especially on their brisket ( best we've ever had) +the sides are top shelf also and don't try the banana pudding It will ruin you eating any other (excellent) , the only downer is the size you get of pudding for price , suggestion to boss increase the ratio to cost. Solid spot for BBQ comfort food in a charming and comfortable space. It's cafeteria style at Lyndon's so take a quick glance at the menu in the front because the line moves pretty efficiently. It's a pretty big menu too beyond the bbq meats and sides - items like country fried steak, stuffed baked potatoes, and fried seafood baskets plus daily specials give you lots of options. But we came for bbq and it's pretty tasty. Got the brisket plate and a pulled pork sandwich. Tried a sampling of their sides including mac n' cheese, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, and spicy corn. Let's start with the important part...the meat. The brisket was clearly the worst part of my experience at Lyndon's. It was dry. I mean arid dry. So dry that it crumbled when I tried to pick it up with a fork. Brisket is the cornerstone of Texas barbecue. If you can't do brisket well, then you've lost the game. The sausage was better. I had the jalapeño-cheese sausage. It wasn't very spicy and it wasn't cheesy at all, but it had a good flavor to it. I think that it's a chicken sausage, but I could be wrong on that. The barbecue sauce was thin and weak. It definitely didn't overpower the flavor of the meats, but it didn't enhance it either. The sides. Potato salad was bland, so bland that I had to salt and pepper it twice. It's potato salad, so blandness is the battle that you're fighting. When making potato salad, you have to realize that the main part of the dish is the most bland food on the planet...the potato. You have to overcome that. This one did not. The beans were good. I'm not a big fan of big strips of bell pepper and onion in my pinto beans, but it did give it a nice flavor. The restaurant itself is nice. They are definitely trying to capture that '70s/'80s feel to the place, enhanced by old country music tunes being played. It's spacious and it's bright. The price. In a segment of the restaurant business that has become incredibly price in recent years, this barbecue place is still fairly reasonable. $17 for a two meat plate still seems kind of steep to me, but it's much more affordable than other barbecue restaurants around Houston. Overall. Not terrible, but I won't be back. read more

Well keeds, I've passed this place for years on my way to the conglomeration of businesses and restaurants on the other side of 290, but never stopped. Today was the day. 4:30... I was their only customer. (There we're five others by the time I finished). Big place, cute, homey, very old school. Cafeteria line service. They even have the rails to slide your tray along as you pick your sides. Meat first. "Loose cut sandwich please". He pulled out a slab and cut and cut... and cut. Lots of very thin slices. Seemingly as thin as he could. But it was a lot, so... "Cole Slaw, please". Scoop, lil ramekin. Found a tv with PTI playing, old country on the speakers. Sauce and condiments on another bar in the dining room. Coolest thing I'd never seen...the sauce was in refillable glass bottles that sat on a warmer! So the sauce was warm and pleasant from the bottles, which poured well. Sauce was nothing special, yet nice. Cole Slaw was the best on this sojourn so far. Now, it was very wet (nice white soup on the bottom) but cut thinly, tangled and lovely. Tart, great flavor. The sandwich was sadly non descript. It was a nice big sandwich for ten bucks, filling... but you didn't really taste the beef. Bark added nothing. Sauce helped it taste like sauce. All in all, the place was nice, but it is s place that you thought was great before people started really treating barbecue as a treat. This is where a working man loads up. Our group of 5 had dinner here on 03/20/23. Between all of us, we tried the brisket, jalapeno sausage, ribs, chicken fried steak, beans, potato salad, coleslaw, blackberry cobbler, peach cobbler, carrot cake, and pecan pie. For the most part, everything was delicious. I got the moist brisket and it was tender and flavorful. Loved the jalapeno sausage! The ribs were tender and delicious. The chicken fried steak was tender and delicious too. The gravy for the chicken fried steak could use a bit more seasoning such as some garlic powder or some beef broth to give it a bit more flavor. The beans were perfect. Try dipping your Texas toast in the bean gravy. It's out of this world. The coleslaw wasn't too sweet, nor was it doused in mayo. It was delicious. The blackberry cobbler had good flavor, but just a bit too much corn starch. The peach cobbler was good too, but they need to cut back on the sugar a bit. The carrot cake was moist and not overly sweet. I really enjoyed it. The pecan pie was ok. The staff was wonderful. We couldn't have asked for better service. I'll definitely go back. read more

If you ask me who makes best BBQ around here, of course, Lyndon's Pit BBQ is the best within my reach. It's a cafeteria-style restaurant. Take a tray as you approach the line. Tell them what you want, take your food and proceed to the cashier. Get a cup if you want a drink. I'm usually here during your commute hours. So the restaurant is all to myself. The good ol country ballads playing in the background. There's no loud sports game on TV. But they have televisions at every angle showing games. There is a self-serve area for pickles, onion and BBQ sauce on a warmer. This is one unique place that serves warm sauce. It's kind of watery. Not my favorite but I hardly use it on my meats anyway. So, among all the selections, which meat is my favorite? It depends on my mood. I'm here mostly for pulled pork sandwich. The humongous pile of meat stuffed between slices of toasted bun for only $6. That is typically 2 meals for me. Sometimes, I pick the weekly special, just to change the pace. The menu is painted on the wall, which means it can't change easily. Besides, I've never encounter something sold out or don't carry any more. Whenever I come here, I expect fast service, comfortable dining room, friendly staff and lots of parking spaces. As many times I've passed this place and I live close by I've never stopped in and it's been years. Well I finally decided to today 12/30/20 2:30pm and the place was empty nobody there I thought they were closed but the sign said closing at 7pm. I walked in to a cool texas bbq spot with lots of decor and room to sit. I read the menu and went to the line I went with a sausage poboy sandwich with fries and I was super hungry. Sat down open the sandwich and noticed the sausage looked a little off but oh well everyone makes their sausage different so I poured up my bbq sauce and went to town. AAAnnnddd was taken back by the odd tasting sausage, it was not good and it was so hard and dry I felt like I was eating a sausage beef jerky link or something so 3 bites in and I was done. Decent cafeteria style BBQ. While BBQ in Texas is a sport and a competition, standards are pretty high. Lyndon's BBQ ranks as about the middle of the pack, and the extra touch is added by offering more unusual sides, such as a shrimp gumbo. The rest is pretty average, inclusive of the BBQ sauce which in my opinion is too vinegary tasting! read more

Was it the best BBQ I've had? No, that still goes to Rudy's off 290, but Lyndons was good. The Pork ribs were ok, BBQ beans good, and the corn casserole was okay. The decor was awesome -- very Texas BBQ (checkered table clothes, complete with old-time country music not too loud) The place was very clean, had very friendly staff, real flatware, great sauce. Also, did you ever wonder where those guys on History Channel called "The Pickers" sell their stuff to? This is one of those places :) Lots of Texas history on the walls and there's even a story of the Stantons near the front. The Q' was good here, about average I'd say for what I got. I'll go back and try the brisket or the pulled pork. Forget the onion rings -- they're huge and tasteless. My husband had brisket sandwich and I had a chopped brisket baked potato, the sandwich was good, but I've been dreaming about the baked potato. It was perfection! I gave it 4 stars because we weren't thrilled about the sides, we had baked beans and mac and cheese. Both were kind of bland, in our opinion. We loved their BBQ sauce and the brisket was the best we've had so far. (We've gone to Rudy's and Hickory Hollow).
