If you're in Houston and craving legit BBQ, do yourself a favor and go to Barney's Texas Barbeque. We were in town to catch a cruise and figured BBQ was mandatory for our one night in Houston. Barney's did NOT disappoint!! We may have gone a little overboard ordering (travel fatigue + everything on the menu sounded amazing), but zero regrets. We each ordered the 2-meat combo -- ribs and brisket -- and wow. The meat was smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. The brisket practically melted, and the ribs were fall-off-the-bone good. The BBQ sauce? Amazing. I could've taken a bottle with me. Our plates came with macaroni salad and potato salad, and my son swapped things up with beans and mashed potatoes. He also ordered the spicy sausage sandwich -- specifically the jalapeño sausage -- and that ended up being his favorite thing on the table. Big win. We had SO much food we basically had two dinners that night. No complaints here! My only wish? They had the peach cobbler I saw on the menu. I was ready for it! Absolutely the best BBQ. We love this place as it is close to home, the staff is always extremely friendly and helpful with the best service around this area. They really go the extra mile to make sure you have a great food experience. If you want really good bbq, fried catfish, jalapeno sausage, chicken, turkey, burgers, fries, baked beans, and peach cobbler definitely stop here. So much better than those "chain" BBQ places. The ambiance is home town friendly and comfortable. I get their moist brisket and my husband loves the lean brisket. We always get enough to take home for later. I could live on this stuff. Prices are good and compare to most other places but the food is so much better than other places we have tried. I love supporting this small business! read more

I bought Barney's barbeque for the first time on last Wednesday and I was very disappointed, I got pieces of ribs it looked like they was cut in 2 inch sections and the potato salad was watery the baked beans tasted like trash. I didn't even eat all of it. It was a waste of my money. I definitely do not recommend it read more

As you know, I proclaim to be a self proclaimed BBQ Judge. Being breed, born, and raised in Texas, I know my BBQ. I generally judge food as nasty, alright, good, delicious, or Slap Yo Momma Good. The BBQ from Barney's is alright. Pretty much everything was alright. It's not the worst, but it's certainly not the best. It's actually around average, perhaps a little below average. The food looks better than it taste. It's not nasty, it's just not memorable. I ordered it via Door Dash and it was nicely packed in a tamper proof bag. I doubt I'd order from here again. The sides were much better than the meats I thought. Cobbler is terrible. Overall.... Super expensive, and I would think the portions would be a bit bigger due to the high price. ?? so that was kinda irritating. Definitely not my first choice for BBQ in H town.... Have drove past a few times and never really thought about stopping by. Recently I started to crave some BBQ and decided to go try it, my girl and me got the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a Dr.pepper. Total came out to about $30. The workers were very nice and took care of us. We went in the evening close to closing time and the sandwich was definitely still delicious I really liked how soft it was once you bit into it, definitely worth to stop by if you're considering. This was a super weird visit, definitely a one-off, but it appeared that they were installing a bathtub (?????) in the area next to the order counter while I was there. The food was not standout in any way. The picture is how much I'm leaving behind. The beans, as other reviewers stated, tasted like canned baked beans. The potato salad had really small chunks of potato, not my preference, and a lot of sauce. The ribs were OK, but even fattier than ribs generally are. Their friendly service and gernerous servings are probably what makes this location a favorite for some locals. The mashed Potato side alone is worth the visit. I tried a moist brisket Po Boy. the flavor of the brisket was like a fusions of Pot Roast w/BBQ. Although it may not be a flavor you are used to when it comes to brisket, it was quite filling and savory! They have their own spicy sauce too if you want to kick things up a notch. Good little barbecue joint. I had the rib plate, nephew had the jalapeño link plate and his girlfriend had the chopped beef plate. I had baked beans and fried okra for my sides, with a glass of sweet tea. Ribs were fall off the bone tender, sauce was excellent and service was fantastic. I like good Texas BBQ and I generally rate a BBQ place by 2 standard Texas BBQ meat, Brisket & Pork Ribs. Today my uncle suggested Barney's off 1960 where he lives. I meet him there and of course got the 2 meat plate, ribs and brisket, side of green beans and potatoes salad. The sides were good I will give them a 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Potato salad was a little runny. But the BBQ! A few slices of brisket were kind of dry for my liking but it all had a nice crust and smoke ring with good flavor inside. I will rate it 4 out of 5 stars. And then theirs the ribs. The succulent fall off the bone tender ribs. Perfect blend of sweet and peppery. Great smoke flavor without being too overpowering. These ribs were dynamite! I have to give them a definite five stars out of five stars. Some of the best ribs I've had outside of my own BBQ ribs. Highly recommend this place. Went today and ordered sliced beef sandwich. Beef was really chewy and hard. I called an complain about it and the lady was giving me excuses and told me that "Maybe you ordered a lean meat". I never tell them to give me lean. But even if it's a, it should be like that. Meat was really hard. I dont know what happen to whoever who cooked it but I believe it was undercooked. This, my friends, is some tasty, tasty barbeque. It also doesn't hurt that it's less than ten minutes from my house. Situated at the fairly busy intersection of Treaschwig and and FM 1960, I wasn't really expecting much from this place. Thankfully, I was proved wrong, and this has been pretty much the only barbeque joint I eat at for going on five years now. The links are pretty good (not too spicy since I'm a big wuss when it comes to heat even though I'm a native Texas), but the outstanding thing here is their chopped beef barbeque sandwich. I tend to order and extra side of sauce since I like my sandwich slathered in it, but the beef is tender and sweet and so so good. It also comes with pickles and onions, if you like those on your sandwich. I also really like their baked potato and will sometimes run up to get one for lunch. They usually put just the right amount of toppings on it, though I do ask for extra cheese. The last two times, however, that I picked one up, they had messed up the order (I ask for no sour cream - hate it on a baked potato - and no chives), so you may want to check your potato if you get one least, in the immortal words of Leo Getz, cleared up for this review, they screw you in the drive through. All in all, though, excellent barbeque and baked potatoes, proving your name doesn't have to be Goode or Pappas to do barbeque right and do it way cheaper to boot. read more

This place is the best kept secret in North Houston! Though it may no longer exist if it stays a secret much longer. We make the 20-25 minute drive from Klein regularly to enjoy this melt-in-your-mouth barbeque. I suggest the brisket, but they excel at preparing all meats. Give this place a shot. I tried Barney's Texas BBQ today for lunch. I tried the lunch special of a PO Boy sandwich and side with a drink for $8.99. I had the chopped beef PO Boy with potato salad, the bun was extremely stale and the chopped beef was more minced than chopped. It was more like a tasteless meat paste with no flavor or moistness. Sadly even the BBQ sauce could not help. I did notice that there were at least 10 - 12 people eating at the same time as myself and not one of them were eating the chopped beef, so perhaps they already knew how bad the chopped beef was already and maybe the other meats are acceptable but sadly having such a poor first impression I may not want to waste my time or money to find out if anything else is good. read more

I paid $15 for 2 backed potatoes all the way, they were like 5 inches each potato, they put cream, cheddar cheese, green onion and like 6 pcs of bacon, no flavor at at like if i was eating dirt and no NO F****** MEAT . A week ago i went to Farmers BBQ in Crosstimbers and 45 North, i can got a $7 backed potato loaded with everything about 9 inches potatoe, including meat . Damn I felt robed and stupid . Okay, it's not the best BBQ on the planet but it is very good. I like the place and the staff is GREAT! I live nearby and go here a lot, have for over 10 years. Their sliced brisket and ribs are excellent. If you let them know how you like the brisket they accommodate you. My wife likes the not so lean marbled part and I like it with no fat at all. They make ours separate and to our liking. My wife would give 5 stars to them for certain. We have dogs, her babies. She used to ask for scraps for them and they always obliged. Now they know and she doesn't even have to ask. Often the scraps she brings home look as good as our meal now that they know her and that she's a regular. She shows off pictures of our poochies to the guy who sees her coming and always waits on her. Anyone this kind to my wife and my dogs is someone I want to give my business to. Yes, I've had better BBQ but on a scale of 1 - 10 I'm giving them an 8 for the quality and taste of their brisket. They're convenient, priced about average for what you'll pay elsewhere. Place is special because it's been here for years and has interesting memoribilia on the walls, but the BBQ is average or below. I found out later that the original owner sold the place, so that explains a lot. It's best days are behind it. I had the sliced beef and sausage combo. I enjoy eating at Barnye's because it is close to my house and I love sliced brisket I will be the first to say this isn't the best BBQ I've ever had but there are not many choices nearby however their sliced brisket is excellent 9 out of 10 times. I can't really comment on anything else because that's the only thing I eat here other than the peach cobbler and occasional steak fries both of which are on par. It beats the hell out of Pappa's sliced brisket (it's always very fatty there). read more

Had the 3 meat platter. Have to say was not impressed. It was not bad but it wasn't notorious. The ribs were tough, the sausage tasted funny but the brisket was the better of the 3 the BBQ sauce was not bad. Perhaps if the food was warmer (hot is nice too) it might have been better. I was charged wrong price at the drive through & rather than just admit he was wrong, he attempted to convince me that I was. First, by checking the price on the inside and outside displays; then, when he realized I was right, by telling me that I ordered the wrong thing.
