Look, I'm a gal who loves her bacon, and liquor, and jellybeans... and, well, anything unhealthy. I'm definitely not one of those people who thinks going on a long run is a great way to clear my head or loves the feel of a workout burn...yet. I'm halfway through a month-long bootcamp and it's 1,000 times better than I could have ever imagined it. When I signed up I was having flashbacks to times I'd be sort of stumbling around in the back of a 24 Hour Fitness group exercise class trying to keep up with the "and one and two and side to side..." I was thinking, I can't do this. This is going to be the biggest waste of money ever. I'm happy to say that I was wrong. Unlike all of those ridiculous step classes and things at 24 Hour, Shannon at LB Bootcamp makes you work to your own personal max. No half-assing it just to try to keep up with some schmancy aerobic moves. Nope. You WILL do those pushups. And you WILL do those squats. And you WILL run the fucking devil that is Signal Hill. ...oops no swearing allowed in bootcamp....now you WILL do ten more pushups. It's only been two weeks and I'm already doing things I never thought I could do. It's not only the trainers though, it's the other people in the class. I'm in an all-women's class (you know, so I don't have to be as self-conscious about all of the wigglin' and jigglin' going on all over my bod), and the ladies in this class are goddamn amazing. It's really helpful to have everyone in the same boat, and to have everyone push you (sometimes quite literally) to succeed...and not letting you quit. There's no quitting in bootcamp! ...although, unlike baseball, there is some crying from time to time. ...from me. ...from running that motherfucking hill. I hate it. But I did it. Two weeks to go, and then I sign up for another one. Yeah...I'm doing another one. I must be going crazy, next thing you know I'll be shopping exclusively at lululemon and going for a jog when I'm feeling stressed...but after a piece of bacon and a cocktail or two, of course. read more

I had one month to lose 10 lbs and tone up for my Hawaii trip so I needed something drastic. That's when I saw a Groupon for Long Beach Boot Camp, $30 for one month, 3 days a week. Best $30 I've ever spent! Not only did I lose 10 lbs and tone up buy I was actually excited to get in my bikini and there's no way I could've done it without this bootcamp. They have an array of different class times so it fits anybodys schedule. I preferred the 5:30 am class that way I could get it out of the way. They also have a run on Fridays up Signal Hill that will definitely kick your butt but believe me it's worth it, I was cussing the whole way but I noticed the difference in my tush very quickly!! During the month we never had the same workout twice and we actually had fun doing it. All the instructors are great and very motivating. I actually looked forward to going instead of dreading getting my butt in the gym and running on the treadmill over and over again. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the price, w/out the Groupon it's $199 for a month 3 days a week, to me that's way too pricey. I'm hoping that they have a special for the New Year and then I will definitely be back. read more

Long Beach Bootcamp is as good as it gets! In 2009 I did my first camp and it changed my life - no joke. They taught me fitness could be enjoyable (gasp!) and how to dig deep and find the physical strength that was hiding dormant inside me. They also emphasis a balanced diet, and teach you how to start by providing you with the info and tools you need to do it. I've kept up with my 3x/week routine ever since, and have dropped about 20lbs and built a lot of muscles. Do yourself a favor - try LBBC, you'll be a fan for life! read more

Great way to meet people and workout! I used to consider myself pretty active, but after having a kid , I went on a 2 year hiatus. This program was great to get back into it. Plus, you are working out outside, usually by the water, which is a nice change to being indoors. Definitely recommend! read more

Woohoo - 5 stars absolutely! This is without a doubt the best workout for me. I had a gym membership and never went, I had a Curves membership and got terriibly bored and quit. Nothing I had tried before got me motivated except for this Long Beach Bootcamp workout. The hardest part of this type of workout is setting your alarm for 5am but once you are up and going it is great! I highly recommend this program to anyone that knows they should be doing more to keep fit. My energy level has increased as well as my strength. I have a more positive attitude and feel great all day long. This is my second year with Shannon and Caroline. Please give it a try !! This review has been long overdue. I have been attending Long Beach Boot Camp (LBBC) since 2006. I've had the opportunity to see this fitness family grow and thrive as they have successfully expanded in their customer base, class offerings, and top-notch trainers. The trainers do a great job of keeping everyone entertained and challenged. In addition to being what I would like to argue is the best workout in Long Beach; LBBC is led by truly passionate trainers who are so incredibly dedicated to their work and their customers. I've tried classes with every trainer here and have continually been impressed. The workouts are very challenging and will whip you into shape, but the spirit of the trainers and clientele is incomparable to any other fitness groups I've joined. Give LBBC a try, and I promise you will not regret it. You're not going to find a better fitness program in Long Beach. read more

Kudos to Long Beach Boot Camp! I started at the beginning of September and can definitely see a difference in my body! Every camp begins with an inspirational quote which I think is really cool. In addition, they will discuss nutrition and other health-related issues. The workouts are always different and very fun. It's great for all levels of fitness due to the trainers giving alternate options with exercises if needed, so newbies, no fear! You will feel stronger within a couple weeks, guaranteed! BTW: the only reason I don't give five stars is I feel the prices are a little too high. $199 a month for 3 days a week, which is what I had signed up for. (ouch) I could justify maybe $100-$125 for that kind of schedule and $199 for 5-6 days a week. read more

I have been a member of Long Beach Boot Camp for 2 years! For me that is a lifetime and by far the longest I have ever stuck with one exercise program/company! The classes are challenging and you always get a good workout. There's also modifications so that people at all levels, like me, can still do the various exercises. I love the variety of classes, times and locations as there is always something that works for my schedule and lifestyle. All classes are outside and you bring your own mat and weights. During the pandemic, it's been great to have this as it gets me outside and I get to socialize a bit too. The reason I've stuck around is that it really is a community. People are supportive and kind to each other. Members have hosted happy hour events, Friendsgivings and so much more. I've met people from boot camp that I have hung out with outside of boot camp. There's also regularly challenges (ex. Become a jump rope master, go to 4 classes in 5 days) where you win swag or other prizes. Overall, I definitely recommend Long Beach Boot Camp to anyone looking for more out of their exercise program. read more

Due to the great instructors and supportive/friendly environment it makes it easy to keep showing up week after week. So I did this camp a year ago to kick start me getting in better shape. It really worked for getting me back in gear. I only did one camp and was able to stay self motivated and ran a 5k and then a mini-triathlon. After all that, I had a hard time staying motivated and ended up signing up for another boot camp this year. I have to say, I think I'm getting even more out of it this time. I am doing the hills this time around and I'm really enjoying the challenge and the incredible workout. Shannon is an awesome motivator and trainer. She isn't annoying at all. Would never join a gym again. At 40 after 3 kids.... I was 35 pounds over weight! This boot camp works. It is hard work! Don't get me wrong! But the workouts are changed all the time so I did not get bored. Music during the workouts :) made friends who were expecting me (motivation to get up early!) plus with all the nutritional information it was the perfect combination! This is the perfect workout for those of us who do not like going to a gym and/or taking classes inside. The workouts are outside and are different every day. You dont get bored, you do have fun, and most importantly, you get great results. They have three classes a day, 5:30am, 9:00am and 7:00pm. While it is tough, the activities change so much that the hour flies by before you know it. Everyone is very supportive and it is a very diverse group of people taking the class. You have grandmothers in the class and young athletes, those who have a lot of weight to lose and those looking for muscle definition. Great workout for all fitness levels. Caroline and Shannon are excellent instructors with background and knowledge to support someone at any fitness level. The classes are not intimidating like other bootcamp classes can be. Instead Caroline and Shannon are encouraging and motivate you to push yourself harder every day. I have rediscovered muscles that I forgot I had! I attend the early morning 5:30 class, which is great because it allows me plenty of time to go home afterwards and get ready for work, but there is also a later morning class and an evening class. This is the first time I've ever enrolled in a bootcamp program. Anyone who knows me, knows I hate to run and lift weights. A friend encouraged me to join with her, I told her I'd give it a month, but I knew I'd hate it. Although exercising is not my favorite thing to do, I do enjoy going to bootcamp. I have now been going for two months. Shannon, our instructor, is great in modifying any exercise for anyone in the class who has a pre-existing injury. Shannon also has educated us in our diet, not dieting, but what we are consuming. Encouraging us to think about what we put into our bodies. Although I do not look forward to exercising 3 days a week, I do look forward to going to bootcamp. If you are thinking about giving bootcamp a try, I would highly recommend Long Beach Bootcamp, they know what they are doing. read more

A friend of mine has been doing LB Bootcamp for more than a year and has been after me to join her. I have been in resistance longer than I want to tell you, but finally she convinced me to try it, and my own gym closed down for a few months for remodeling. At the first class I almost threw up several times, and almost passed out a few times too. As Sammi helped me get past the nausea she and the rest of the class would say with total conviction, "Just give me three weeks and you're gonna love it!" I had my serious doubts about that and did NOT want to go back (more resistance), plus the price is an obstacle, but I had committed to my friend I would stick it out for two weeks. During the 2nd week I noticed I had more engergy and was sleeping better and best of all, began working with my husband to figure out what we could cut out in order to add the totally worth it price to do 3 classes a week. I am about to start my third 4-week session and not only do I feel amazing overall, but I am stronger and when I have my "off days" from BC, I totally miss it! I have obstacles, like everyone does, but Sammi and the other trainers provide modifications if you can't do a certain exercise, and NO two workouts are ever the same. As a lifelong gym membership holder, I can also tell you that I have NO DESIRE to go back to working out in a gym environment. There is just something about working out outdoors, with a group of people who encourage each other and don't make you feel fat or out of shape or uncoordinated (a feeling I've had many times at group gym classes), and with trainers who really seem to care about YOU as an individual and challenge YOU to go beyond your own idea of your limits. LBBC is the first workout program I am actually excited every day to attend classes. I love that every time I go it's a different workout and after the hour I feel like I've worked out my entire body. The trainers are great! They work hard to keep things interesting and fast paced, but also make sure to offer modifications for injuries or if something is just too challenging for you. The other boot campers are awesome as well and everyone encourages each other to keep going and to do your personal best! AMAZING! I just finished my first week and I have nothing but good things to say about this program. I feel great and I am motivated, inspired, and excited to get up and go to bootcamp in the morning! The classes are small, so you don't feel lost in the crowd. There are people of all ages, shapes, sizes, and abilities so you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of. Everyone is there to work hard at their best ability. My trainer, Sami, is awesome!! She pushes you hard, but not to the point where you dread coming the next day..... you want to keep going and going and going. If you're thinking about it... just do it. I signed up for boot camp on a whim because there was a great deal on Living Social, but a month later, I am totally hooked. The workouts are intense, but a lot of fun. The trainers will challenge you, with good humor and supportive enthusiasm, while also respecting any physical limitations you might have. Within a week, i noticed a difference in my body, and after a month, i am feeling stronger, more fit and enjoying the energy boost that comes with fresh air and physical activites. I am not sure I will ever be able to face another boring hour on the elipticsl machine Everyone I have met in boot camp is friendly and positive. I've gone to the boot camp now on two separate occasions, both experiences have been outstanding. I ran track and played basketball in college and still stay active in sports...I say this to point out that I have a high expectation level when it comes to fitness routines. The classes are all ran with the perfect mix of large class convenience and small class personal attention. The instructors are very attentive and encouraging while at the same time pushing each individual to perform to their comfortable exhaustion. I can't recommend these classes enough. I personally love the 5:30 AM classes to get things moving in the morning. Do yourself a favor and take a class if you're even remotely on the fence about going. read more

If you haven't worked out in a while you will definitely be sore, but they are great about letting you pace yourself. I also want to say how great Mike is, I was one of the few "elite" that got ridiculously lost on the signal hill run. I was panicked since this was my second day and I didn't even know a number to call. He gave me a call, found me, picked me up and although I could tell he l needed to be somewhere and we were past the finish time he joked with me and made me feel so much better about the whole ordeal. I can honestly say that I am hooked. I have attended 3 days a week religiously. I am only one of a couple of guys in the 5:30 am Co-Ed class. From Boot Camp, from this amazing workout that changes constantly and that's the key. It is always different each day so your body doesn't plateau or bulk up in one area, its an all over work out that keeps challenging your body and you don't get bored or dread it because you simply don't know what to expect , so its ALWAYS exciting and interesting! I've been going off and on for the last few years when I can afford it, and it is by far the best workout experience I've had. All the trainers are great. They make an effort to get to know you, and your personal fitness goals. They push you to push yourself, but always emphasize good form and injury prevention. I had to take a year off due to a double achilles injury (ouch), and when I came back, they were wonderful about tailoring the exercizes to help me in my recovery.
