Dr. Tang is an incredible doctor. He's efficient, knowledgeable, and very thorough. When there was an error from another doctor, he cleared it up quickly and explained everything in a way that was clear and reassuring. He's precise with prescriptions and genuinely focused on making sure his patients get the right results. I came in to see if they could replace the missing screw on my vintage sunglasses. They replaced it for me immediately, which only took a handful of minutes, and even checked the other screw so that the same issue wouldn't happen to my other lens - FREE OF CHARGE! I assumed I would need to pay for the assistance or something (even if it was $10) but the fact they assisted and sent me on my way was so awesome! This business is very informative. They don't have to dilate your eyes for the exam which I like. They also did an exray and found a tear in my eye I had no idea I had. It was an easy fix that could of been worse if it hadn't been discovered. They are nice and professional. The displays are classy. They are on the expensive side is my only complaint. I just wanted lens replaced and it was quoted as 600 dollars since insurance wouldn't cover it. read more

I needed a pair of glasses and came across Optometry in the Square while reviewing an In-Network Provider listed given to me by a health plan representative. When I arrived (unannounced) to Optometry in the Square, I was greeted by a staff member, Shelly. She was friendly and helpful. I came in thinking I wanted one frame but after trying them on, I wasn't too sure about the purchase. She reassured me that we would find an alternative pair. After patiently navigating me through their vast collection and trying on a number of different options, we came across a pair that fit my (round) face nicely. She explained my benefits in detail and walked me through the insurance process, detailing my patient responsibility. I've been coming here for years because I haven't had major issues before. Also, the doctors are great, and staff are somewhat polite. My issue now is the back order on contact lens. After seven weeks (I forgot all about it due to my busy crazy schedule), I finally called for the status, worried that the order was never placed. Found out, the lenses were on back order. I'm now running out of lenses. Why didn't anyone call me to let me know? This happened to me last year as well. I will attempt to look for another eye doctor. I went to this eye center to order some simple glasses since my insurance had just started up. I was greeted by the front desk office staff who was extremely warm and welcoming. I let her know what I needed and she let me know if I had any questions to reach back out to her. Sometimes it's nice to not be babysat in these eye places, especially when you know what you want. I had a 12:20 appointment today. They are ALWAYS running behind. They are extremely slow. There was a customer and her daughter that came in after I walked in. We both had a 12:20 appointment. As I was waiting to be called back Georgia Garcia called the customer that walked in after I did. I went to a tech and asked why were they called in before me when they walked in and checked in after I did. He said he don't know why and that should not have happened. He went to the room where Georgia Garcia was yo ask her. I don't know what was said but instead of her trying to make it right, she continued to see the customer. She knew what she had done and instead of apologizing she said nothing. She walked past me several times and said nothing. I don't want to play the race card but the customer and her daughter are Hispanic as she is also Hispanic. When you come here be prepared to sit and wait an hour to two hours. read more

Wow I bought a pair of really expensive glasses there ray ban and in less than a year the tint nose piece came off the ear pieces coming off I received a new pair but had to pay 10 dollars for the nose pads (really) then in less than another year same thing these glasses are supposed to be top of the line tinted scratch proof all the bells and whistles,.first they said not there problem then after a " discussion " they said they would take care of it but are charging me 15 dollars for the nose pads . Did I mention it took over 2 months to get the first par back. I'm a RN taking care of all of your loved ones day after day and going to work during covid putting my life in danger to save you and your loved ones and this is how this place says thank you. read more

After the exam was over they took their time helping my wife pick out a couple of pairs of sunglasses. They also helped me find the right glasses. After I left and I felt my prescription was off, so I called and they were very helpful. They booked me for an appointment at my earliest convenience. The doctor saw me and checked my current prescription as well as the one they gave me. She tweaked some things and I was in and out in a jiff. I would definitely recommend coming here. I have never before felt the need to write a review negative or positive. But this experience was so horrendous I had to sign up just to warn customers. Worst eye glass experience in my entire life and I have been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade and I am now 30 years old. I came to this location because my Aunt has been a customer for several years and I was in need of glasses fast because my cousin sat on my old frames and I couldn't get them to bend properly back in place. The location is clean my appointment was same day (appt on 2/8/17) and they saw me very quickly. Additionally, I was informed that my eyes had gotten a little better somehow. The doctor was incredibly nice and I was excited I was going from -8.25 to -7.25. The initial experience was positive. But wait there's more. I was informed that my glasses would take approximately 3 weeks to get. After the 3 week deadline passed I was informed that my glasses were on back order (I would have made a different choice in frame if I had known this as I am in law school and need my glasses to study because contacts are too uncomfortable). After a week of waiting for a reply on when the glasses would be in stock I was informed that it would be 2 more weeks until I get my new frames. The 2 week mark passes and I call for an update and I'm informed that it will be an additional week and a half (it took a total of 7 weeks). So the frames were meant to arrive on March 27th but I got a call today, March 25, saying my frames were 2 days early so I had positive feelings until I took out my contacts and put them on at home. I paid for polished lenses and my prescription had apparently dropped from -8.25 to -7.25 so my lenses should be smaller than my old glasses. BUT not at the Scheffel Eye Care Center. Not only can I not see out of my glasses pass selfie distance but the lenses are almost 3 times the size as my old glasses which were -8.25!!!!! So now I have to take them back to have them put in the correct prescription so that I can actually see out of my expensive glasses, but I also need them to answer why in the world my old glasses (Prada Frame but I got them from a different doctor) are so much thinner. Seeing as how it took 7 weeks (2/8/17 - 3/25/17) to get the glasses the first time I'm assuming it will take them no less than 4 weeks to correct them. Oh and I take the bar this July and needed this new frames so my eyes wouldn't give me trouble while studying for finals and the bar and now i'm STILL without glasses all because of the incompetency of this location. DO NOT go here if you need glasses in a timely manner with the proper prescription. Update: I returned the glasses today 3/26/17 and requested a full refund and for them to negate the claim on my insurance. They refused to refund the eye exam that was done incorrectly but reversed the lense and frame claim on the insurance and they only refunded 440 out of the 594 I paid out of pocket and claimed a BS restocking fee and kept the charges for the exam and retina screening. This screams unjust enrichment and I will be filing a complaint with the board of optometry. How dare you keep 154 of my money plus an exam fee for something done incorrectly AND it took you 7 weeks to get the glasses with the incorrect prescription to me. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Dr. Tang was super cool. I went here just to get a new prescription for contact lenses. At first I was wary of their Dailies free trial. But then I realized that with all the rebates and the cost for contact lens solution, it was more cost-effective for me to get the daily lenses. Dr. Tang was very thorough and also very nice. Dr. Tang is amazing! One night I rubbed my eyes and felt like an eyelash fell into my eye. I put some artificial tears in and tried to look for one, but couldn't find it. There was this painless discomfort I felt inside my upper eyelid for a day and a half before I decided I should see someone to make sure I didn't have a corneal abrasion. Decided to see Dr. Tang at this office. He is professional, friendly, and efficient. He put some dye into both eyes to see if I had any scratches on the cornea (no). He proceeded to flip my upper eyelid up, and looked exactly where I told him I felt discomfort, and found some hardened oil debris lodged under my eyelid that he quickly took out with a qtip. Instantaneously I felt better! And that foreign body sensation was gone. I am so grateful Dr. Tang took the time to listen to my concern, and search where I felt discomfort. He was gentle throughout the process and informative. He is great and I will definitely be back to see him! The office is very clean, and all the staff were friendly and pleasant. read more

My son and I needed a routine eye exam. The phone receptionist verified my insurance and helped me schedule an appt pretty easily, no issues at all. The office was nice and well kept inside. We came in on a Saturday and the receptionist and vision techs were all friendly, they used three different machines to test our vision during both of our eye exams. Dr. Tang was friendly, attentive and patient with my 6 or old who was there for his very first eye exam. Anadelle (hope i spelled that right) was also nice and provided an easy eyeglass ordering experience. There were plenty of frames to choose from. We had a pretty good experience for our first visit. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! I bought glasses from this Eye Care Center a while ago, using my vision insurance. This was my first time buying glasses, so I didn't really know what to expect. I found staff at this eye center very rude and unhelpful, so I decided to buy glasses elsewhere this year. I've learned that Dr. Scheffel's Office outrageously overcharged me for my "designer" glasses (some name brand I've never heard of) while at the same time charging my I insurance. I walked out of there spending $350 out of pocket, on my progressive glasses, in addition to whatever they charged my insurance. The glasses I purchased today, from a different Eye Center, using my exact same vision insurance - Jones New York progressive glasses .... paid $29. Don't patronize these crooks!! read more

I really like this eye doctor. I have been going here for about 10 years now and am very content with all the services I receive. The staff is always nice (even when it comes to the gluacoma "puff" test which I hate!) They are very accomadating when it comes to ordering my new contacts and if it takes too long coming from the factory they are always up to giving me the 2nd free trial pair. They moved to a new facility outside the Lakewood Mall thank goodness since parking was always an issue during weekend appointments. The new facility is very nice and spacious! I will begin this review by saying that I've worn glasses for over 20 years and have been to a plethora of optometrist offices. I came to Dr. Scheffel's Eye Care Center because they were reviewed well here on Yelp and they are located less than half a mile from my (new) house. First -- I received an annoying number of 'appointment reminder' text message. I turned the feature off at some point, but still received them. Oi. Second -- While the optometrist I saw at Scheffel's Eye Care Center was a very nice, caring practitioner, I was rather disappointed in the customer service and selection in the eye-wear department. I called to ask about my insurance and hours, and potentially booking. They were able to accommodate me that day and was to retrieve all my information immediately. I ended up leaving immediate to go for a 6:30pm appointment with Dr. Liu. It was my 1st time at this facility and everyone was extremely helpful and informative. The place was easy to find across from Lakewood Mall next to Michaels. I didn't wait longer than a few minutes after I filled out my paperwork. I definitely liked how the technician explained every test and purpose of the test. Dr Liu did the same too. Again only waited no longer than 5 mins until Dale helped me afterwards with getting my contacts on order and helped guide me to get the full potential of my insurance. Everything went smoothly. I highly recommend Dr. Scheffel's eye Care Center and Dr. Liu. Great staff and service. I was a very pleased 1st time customer coming out of the facility yesterday. read more

They have such a great selection when it comes to designer frames. I found a pair of glasses i loved online and my previous dr's office wouldn't order them because they claimed that they were unable to, so when i asked the same thing here at Dr Scheffel's they told me they would be able to! Please beware, this is there policy so it can happen to you. My daughter has been a patient here for years, she recently went there for an exam and of course had to get new glasses (the Dr kept pressuring her to get new frames) which she declined. She received a call today advising her they broke her frames and she would need to pay $109.00 for new ones, my daughter did not have the money, she already had paid $300.00. During this time when so many people are struggling and she was a very devoted patient, why not the office as good business pay the $109.00. They advised it almost never happens, yet a good patient was irrelevant. In addition their sunglasses have a cheap tint that just flakes it is very apparent they are utilizing an inept lab probably to save money. To think if we bought another pair and they broke again ...we would be stuck again!! I could understand this policy for maybe new patients but not to patients with such history....obviously her last appointment there read more
