I had around a gallon of gas left in my tank, and I was searching Gas Buddy for Shell stations in Long Beach to see if there was a cheaper price than the Shell that I usually go to. I usually choose Shell because you can get a nice discount courtesy of Ralphs fuel rewards. Not every Shell station is a participating location, however; you'd have to consult the Ralphs website to confirm first. After looking at both Gas Buddy and the Ralphs websites, I saw that this Shell station was a participating station *and* had a gas price that was almost a half dollar cheaper than the Shell I frequent! I literally went across town just for this gas station, and guess what? It wasn't even a Shell! I absolutely loathe and detest red herrings like this one. By the time I got to this station, I was really low on gas and wouldn't have been able to go back the way I came with only a fraction of a gallon left at this point. The exterior looked so much like a Shell, except with "United Oil" plastered over Shell. I was thinking it'd still be a Shell today, but soon to be taken over by United Oil in the near future. Not the case here. Once I pressed the "Rewards" button on the pump, I was looking for Ralphs, but that didn't even show up! I went to another pump hoping that would still take my Ralphs fuel points, but it was the same result. My blood was boiling so much that if not for the significantly cheaper price I had found on Gas Buddy the first time, I would have almost certainly given one star instead. After filling my gas tank, the screen told me to go inside to get my receipt. I have a problem with this because there's a sign that says you're not allowed to park on the fuel islands. I was on one of those islands at the time, and so I essentially would have had to leave my car parked there in order to get my receipt. It wouldn't be a big deal if the convenience store there wasn't empty, but there were a couple people in line, and they took a *long* time for a cashier to service them. I was starting to worry that someone would notice my car parked there and ask for my car to be towed. And get this, one of the cashiers was sick! I could tell because she was coughing uncontrollably while assisting a customer in front of me. Luckily, a newer employee, donning a name tag that said "Trainee", called me over, remained cool as a cucumber, and became the second main reason why I'm awarding a second star here. Even though my interaction with him was only a few seconds, it was the best few seconds of my visit here, thus becoming the saving grace from one nightmare of a trip across town just to get gas. Needless to say, I highly doubt I'll be back unless they convert to a Buc-ee's like how they converted from Shell to United Oil. Unfortunately, I don't see Buc-ee's even opening in the Golden State anytime soon. read more

Their loyalty program is a scam. Wasted time downloading the app and registering for a free small coffee. The assistant manager charged me for the coffee, and didn't refund when I saw my receipt. I called the number on the loyalty card. Of course the woman says there's nothing she can do. Avoid the disappointment of more corporate lies by foregoing the loyalty program. Get your gas and keep it moving. read more

I'm giving 2 stars for 2 reasons. 1 is for some of the employees as they are amazing people. Two is for them being open 247. However I cannot give the full five stars due to the way the "manager" (I believe he's an assistant manager, a former owner who had to sell the business and clearly is bitter). Behaves at regular customers. This is a dangerous zone at night. There are nightly occurrences with the chronically homeless that I have experienced first hand. From running into the store naked and demanding services, to another one asking for help because there are spiders in her throat, to fights between them that get violent, and even events in the store where customers and staff are put in danger. The truck drivers for the most part are nice. At night tho, they frequently pick up the "ladies of the night" that work there. Even tho police are close by, they come not as often as they should. The assistant manager acts as if he manages a ritz Carlton. When he's managing a Carl's Jr. shell station. He's very rude even to regulars. Put women employees in dangerous situations. And then changes schedules to further be difficult. He harasses any customer and frequently looks for fights. He however is the only issue other than location. Most of the employees here are wonderful and very kind. They work in a dangerous location so I worry for their safety but they handle it without being bitter. Cat. So this place CAN be pretty cool... especially for a fool like me. Why??? They've got the following onsite: - Baskin Robbins, (nice); - Lotto, (nicer); - Carl's Jr. / Green Burrito, complete with a drive thru for lazy asses like myself, (nicest). Other amenities... ATM onsite, petro, (gas and diesel), and, for your shopping pleasure at no additional cost... plenty of panhandlers!!! Customers beware... While the panhandlers are generally harmless and because it's a "travel center", (don't be fooled by the name), those 'effin truckers will run into you and / or your vehicle, in a New York second. It's bad enough that them MoFo's act like they own the roads / highways, but they drive like maniacal sons 'o beeyatches in the pump area as well. Be safe and keep your eyes open in here peeps!!! read more

After calling to verify that they do have showers, I showed up to find that they don't offer towels, despite charging the same rate as Pilot. Filthy facilities and only two showers. One is in the men's room so if you are a female you only get one choice and hope it's not occupied. Super disappointing that they don't take care of their facilities. read more

This place has it all! The gas is a little more expensive, but I spoke to a bunch of the truck drivers that fuel there and they claim the fuel is the best in the area hands down. I am getting better gas mileage since I started using it. Carl's has good food and there are showers and a cash mart inside. BUT the best part is by far the amazing coffee!!!!
