This was the biggest mistake that I ever made. First, I asked for two gates to have an arch, no arch. It is noted on my invoice 2, gates 4' board with arch. Then on the third gate, the installer put the locking mechanism on the outside of the gate, really???? Then they put it on the right side (the locking mechanism) but no handle on the outside. Really tacky. Otherwise, the fence looks good but I considering how the gates look, I cannot give them more than a one star. Do your research, get 3 estimates and than choose the company with the better price. I had ONE section of fence installed. I found out my neighbor had the ENTIRE YARD FENCED IN BY ANOTHER COMPANY - AMOR FENCE. His price was way cheaper than mine and mine was with a 25% discount. I just got a section of split rail (40 ft) my neighbor got a 6 ft tall vinyl fence enclosing his ENTIRE yard!! read more

By far the most unprofessional Company I've ever felt with. Salesmen Paul came out to do an estimate and was very nice. Once I signed the contract and was told when I could expect my material in, I followed up to see when we could get it scheduled. Paul said let me check on material and call you back. A few days later, I called back and got no answer for over a week. Ended up calling Shamari which is I guess the inside guy that does all the scheduling. I spoke to him and he said let me look into this and call you back.. Well after me calling him back 4 different times (3 weeks) after my material was supposed to have been in I decided to cancel. I was told today that my material was "lost" and basically has to be reordered.. I had one side of my fence replaced in 2023. Measurement was 48 w x 72 h w/ Monticello arched top door for $2469. Salesman original quote was $3498 but as springtime special and a first time customer I get to pay $2469, saving $7970. (Just want to mention, salesman was offered me about $2800 when I told him it was a little expensive, but talked him down to the $2469, saying that's the best he could do. Ok, am so excite I sign. This year 2024 now that I have paid off the side of the fence i call to replace the other side of my fence which he measured 33.2 inches long and I can keep the 2 end post that's already there. He is charging me $3039 but with what is called a repeat customer I get a discount now paying $2274. Can someone please tell me why am paying almost as much as the first fence w/ no new end post or door added. I feel like the sales man is cheating and deceiving me. Requested an estimate for a second time . The first was a couple of years ago had to delay due to unforseen circumstances. The prices were not quite what I thought they should've been. Had an estimate by Abbey fence, this 06/17 price was salesman good customer service was poor. I gave down payment I was told to get my own property plat ?? Abbey makes their money from kick backs from referrals to a company that does property plats & the finance company they refer you to use. If you don't use theirs, they get very angry. However, I went back to Long Fence the price was absorbent!!! I live in a townhouse, which you could image is a very small yard. The difference between them & Abbey was over 1500. 00 more. The same exact fence materials & Abbey permit cost was included, Long Fence charged an additional 275.00 ​​. The salesman wouldn't explainifference in cost. He kept saying no pressure but never explained why their cost was that much more! He looked at Abbey Fence estimate but refused to meet their price. Long Fence came and in September 2019 gave us an estimate to replace some fence post on our paddock fence and marked the post with very sticky blue tape instead of a pen type marker; or they could have even made notes on which post needed to be replaced. We didn't have them do the work because they were way higher than the other estimates but now we have this blue tape that stuck on our fence posts for months and the some fell off and stuck to the ground so when I mowed I had to get off the mower and pick it up. None of it blew away because of the very sticky adhesive. The photos I have attached were taken in April 2020 so seven months after they had come out, this blue sticky tape is still all over our fence and on the ground. It stuck to either the fence post or ground and there was lot of them so they really littered up our property. Very frustrating in having to pick up Long Fence's litter. They could have easily used a marker instead but think they do this as revenge to the customer for not hiring them to do the work. If had hired them then they would have replaced the post with the blue sticky tape on them. Would not recommend this company because of all their litter that trashed up our property. The fence installation was quick, but the work was not great. Some boards are misaligned and warped and the door has had several issues with not shutting properly. Now the wood has splintered and broken at the door so it is no longer functional. They came out to replace it but the work seems more about being quick than quality. read more

He told us to Get a handy man, and he basically did not want the work and did not even notice the rails falling off the side we had to point those out and the post swing in the wind. They were fast, efficient, and professional. The workers were able to get everything in the ground avoiding inclement weather and also did brush clearing to provide us with a sturdy and strong fence. EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED! The fence I purchased only 3 months ago for thousands of dollars has had 2 panels - or wood pieces, whichever you prefer to call it, come loose, fall off, and become warped with the imminent threat of falling down and leaving gaping holes, rendering it useless. The staff is incredibly, equally useless, costing me more time, outrage, and emotional suffering. If they bother answering the phone to listen to you beg for repair, they promise to call you back and do not. When I called them back, I got a new punisher each time that doesn't even know what I'm talking about, or twists my words so wildly, it isn't even close to what I said in the first place. THIS IS NOT A REPUTABLE COMPANY. They do a job, but do it shabbily and dangerously, and with their eye on the prize ... getting your money and a laugh at the expense of their innocent customers. They have until 4:00 this afternoon to satisfy me, before I take my complaints to the BBB, government agencies, and investigate pursuing legal action, and I told them that today. Yes I can hire someone else to fix their horrible work, but that's accepting their scam, and forcing me to put out more time and expense, which I shouldn't have to do, and I will if forced, and that is my expectation. Waited 6 months for fence install. It was partially installed but they didn't bring enough material so the work is still not completed. I made my deposit in November 2020 and it is now May 2021. The long fence sub contractor damaged two irrigation lines and covered it up instead of letting us know so that it can be quickly repaired. Having to locate the source of the leaks caused extensive damage to my yard. They didn't glue the top of the posts like they were supposed to, installed the doors too low and at least one fence post has been installed without any reinforcement whatsoever- just vinyl plastic in cement. No Long Fence representative came to check the work and perform any quality control. What's the point of paying these high Long Fence prices if I'm just going to get a bunch of guys who refer to the company as "the seller" and don't even know they are working for Long Fence? This has not been a great experience with Long Fence and I will not be recommending them to other people. Update: 5/26/21 they reached out after reading the reviews and asked for pictures of the issues. I provided the pictures and now they have gone back to not responding. When new construction began behind our property, we reached out to three different fencing companies. We were so impressed with Jim Thompson's professionalism, promptness and pricing that the decision to go with Long Fence was easy. At first we had Long Fence build a tall privacy fence at the rear of our property, along with replacing sections of our old wooden fence. We were so impressed with the results that a few months later we had Long Fence replace all the old sections of our fence, and extend it into the side of our front yard. What impressed us the most? Each job (including the tear down of the old fence) was completed in one day! We had a special issue with a beautiful grape vine growing on one large section of our old fence. Long Fence gently lifted the vine off, demolished the old fence, built the new section and replaced the grape vine. No damage at all to the vine! But, perhaps what was most impressive was when we had an issue with one of our gate latches, Long Fence promptly sent out a team to do the repair and check the other latches (at no fee to us). Just wanted to say that while the initial work is excellent - customer support is not important to them. Unless you are spending a large sum of money, they cannot be bothered to speak with you, let alone fix something. I spent $$$$ at Long for a new roof, privacy fence and deck and they were happy to return my calls and provide product. But when I had a small repair, I got crickets. I called, spoke to people more than once on the telephone. I sent emails with photos to people, and followed up my emails with voice messages. They could NOT be bothered. I will never work with them again. I am a busy professional and cannot work with those who are unresponsive. I will let folks in my neighborhood and sphere of influence know of my experience and let them choose for themselves. People around here expect a high level of service and you just don't get it after the sale. read more

Called around for a few fencing companies to get estimates. Long Fence happened to be the first company that came out to my house to do an estimate. The sales rep said he was going to give me the best deal possible and he measured my fence and then went in his car to write up a quote. He said, "don't worry I will take care of you". 10 minutes later he gives me the quote and says normally with my yard (only 1/4 acre) it would be $12,000 for black aluminum fencing, but he would give me a steal of a deal at $8,000 flat. In my head I chuckled. He then asked if I had got other quotes and I said not yet. He said there is no need to because he gave me a great deal, but if I did get other quotes, he would try to match them. In my head I was thinking "if you just said you gave me the best possible price, but yet you said you will try to match other companies... which means you CAN go lower but you didn't. You just contradicted yourself." I thanked the guy for his time. Let's just say other fencing companies gave MUCH better prices. Loudoun Fence wanted around $6,000 and Armor Fence (see my review for them) only wanted $5,000. I didn't even bring that offer back to Long Fence because it was $3,000 cheaper! Long story short: Long Fence is overpriced. Ended up going with Armor Fence for better price and more honest company. read more

High price - shoddy materials and service I hate to jump on the bandwagon here but after we hired Long Fence to enclose our back yard I have to say that we are terribly disappointed. First they arrived without the proper 'footings' and attempted to install the fence anyway. When they did come, they left an unbelievable amount of wires, trimmings, screws and other materials scattered around our yard. To this day, we continue to find bits of metal - more than a dozen. Less than a year old, all three of the gates do not open properly as they are all out of 'true'. I question if they used the anchors properly (or at all) and have insisted that they show me the footings. We continue to have problems with the fence and gates; including the fact that the screws were not tightened and so they come loose. In the year we're had the fence, I have had to replace several, use lock washers to keep it from coming apart and had pieces fall to the ground. Most upsetting is when our dog comes in with pieces in his mouth. Swallowing just one could lead to terrible consequences. They asked us to take photographs illustrating the issues and then sent a crew out to fix (some of) them before we got home. That was the 'last straw' as far as we are concerned and has inspired me to update this review and lower the rating from two to one star. read more

Terrible customer service (no one ever answers the phone after being forwarded from reception). We were told our job was too small for them to care about and we'd have to wait until a bigger job was near our location to piggy back off. The job was for them to fix the 8" gap they left between my fence and my neighbors' fence when they improperly installed the fence off the property line. They came and did the quote fairly quick...but after that, it was radio silence: we called and called and called; always forwarded to a voicemail. During one occasion when I got a hold of the sales rep (not a person who can schedule a job) we were told we should be grateful they did not charge us to find the property stakes (an apparent $400 service fee)....if they'd found and used the stakes on the initial job, we would need the work to correct the fence. Over two months of back and forth on the phone and constantly trying to hunt down "the right person" (when they answered the phone) the job was finally done....ish. They removed a wall of fence in my yard to fill the gap but left gaps in the bottom of the fence and holes in the posts they left behind. Not to mention the mess of dirt and rock left in my yard and driveway. The amount of fence they took was far more than what it took to fix the gap and I'm assuming the previous homeowner paid for that fence...guess they just got close to 15' of materials for free. This company does not care about you or quality. Just get the job done as quickly as possible (no matter what the quality), get your money and move on. Most of my neighbors went with Hal Co. and I'm jealous. Had I not inherited the fence from the previous homeowner, I would not have used Long Fence. read more

I was worried about using Long Fence because of the reviews here, but my realtor recommended them, and she hasn't been wrong about anything yet! I had a great experience with Long - they came when they said they would (they were actually super accommodating with the install date that I needed), the work was done in one day, and there was follow up all throughout the process and afterwards. The property was a challenging one to fence in because of the grading, and they did a great job. Pricing wasn't the cheapest, nor was it the most expensive. There is no way to express the quality of service and product we got from Long Fence. Everyone from the salesman Adam to Crystal in the office, Ken, Matt , Walter and all workmen. We hired Long Fence in fall of 2019 to redo a standing deck that needed to have the handrails and floorboards replaced. The salesman who came out seemed great and made us feel that this is a knowledgeable company concerned with quality and customer satisfaction. Sadly, that is just the salesman's job, the actual result is of terrible quality. When the crew came out they did not have a great grasp of the language, which I have no problem with, except that I don't know how to explain to someone in Spanish the work that needs to be done. All of this was explained to the salesman, and I would have thought he or a "foreman" with knowledge of the requested project would have been out there as well. The crew came out for a few days, but then disappeared without the project being finished. They replaced decking in front of our French doors that was installed improperly so that we couldn't open the doors once they had done that install. We had to contact Long Fence to have this problem resolved (they ended up having to tear up the upper level where the French doors are and completely redo it). Unfortunately this process was being completed by a couple of guys who seemed to have no clue what they were doing. I have a home office with a window that faces onto the deck, and at one point I heard the older gentleman yelling at his young "helper," "Don't f****** tell me I measured it wrong." Later that afternoon, he told us that there was a large gap in an area that could be filled in with sawdust and glue. My spouse looked at the area and said the problem was that they had not cut the boards correctly and were now trying to take a cheap shortcut to remedy the problem. Several board cuts in the project look hacked and not done by someone who knows how to use the machines they were using. This has resulted in corner joints not lining up properly. They did try using what must have been sawdust and glue in one area, that very quickly fell apart. There is another area in which they cut a long board too short, so they just stuck a loose 1.5" X 8" piece of wood in to try to cover it up. They brought the wrong size stairs so that we now have two very weirdly configured staircases. They damaged the parge on the foundation of the house and then replaced some of it very badly and then in another part, they did not replace it at all (even after we pointed it out and they promised to fix it). They filled in a gap where a board was cut too short with a loose piece of wood. In addition, not 9 months since the project was finished, and several boards are already seriously warped. To sum the whole experience up, they are a lot of smiles and reassurance in order to get a contract signed, but once they have the project, they are unprofessional, incompetent, and unreliable. I've attached some photos to show some of what I mention here. These are only a tip of the iceberg in terms of the badly cut, poorly installed materials throughout the deck. read more

Long installed a new wooden backyard fencing on our new home about 2 years ago and the gate hinges and locks had a problem after settlement. I repaired one gate hinge and lock myself after a year but my neighbor had Long repair his gate last Spring, 2019. Our gates share a common six by six post and they removed my gate and my neighbors gate. After about six months my gate started sagging and the hinges were coming off. I called Long and sent photos of the hinges and the sales rep Tina promised to call me back but never did. I offered to pay for gate service work.After two weeks, I replaced both hinges on my gate and reset the locks--about 2 hours work. Photos attached of poor hinge fastening. Their MO seems to be that they tell folks building will start in 8 to 10 weeks knowing from the comments below, that is not accurate. my deck was six weeks behind schedule. Reason for delay was weather then county inspectors yet they did not seem to acknowledge not enough crew. Then they built the wrong size deck. They did offer to credit me the difference or correct the size of the deck. Given my experience with them, I chose to receive the credit since I did not want to prolong the relationship with them. Then they left the garbage and cut up wood in the yard. Then they gave me the wrong date/time of inspection. I chose them since they are a "family owned" local business in the area for 75 years and their BBB rating but I highly recommend you choose another builder. read more

We have been waiting since March (over SEVEN months) for Long Fence to replace the decking and railing on our deck. We have paid thousands of dollars on deposit. The work was supposed to start five or six months ago. They do not keep us informed, and after many phone calls and emails they say they are having problems getting aluminum railings, that hundreds of other customers are also waiting, and that they cannot guarantee that they can even start working on our deck THIS YEAR! Surely they can source alternate aluminum railings in seven months (other companies are installing them). And they could at least keep us posted on their progress instead of their snippy responses to our concerns. So, if your job involves any aluminum railings or fencing DO NOT BOOK A JOB WITH LONG FENCE. Another serious problem is that they estimate a job and give you a price, you sign the contract, and then they come back later and tell you that the deck will not meet code requirement without additional work. They state that they cannot fulfill the contract without adding the additional work which they did not include in the original contract, and unilaterally substantially raise the price of the contract. In our case AFTER we signed the contract they did that, and we did not refuse because we were worried that our deck would not get done for the summer(!) So DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH LONG FENCE IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY! read more

I would avoid using these people. They subcontract other companies that will do the work cheaper and then don't offer good customer service on the back end. We were due a refund of $50 and it never came. The guy installing the fence said that they were ripping us off and that his company would do it for far cheaper. Then one of the posts broke two years after we had it installed and they sent a sales guy out to look at it instead of a repair person, even though I told them what was broken. He then put it into a repair claim and I still haven't heard anything back from four months ago. We had to hire a contractor to fix it. Installation crew had an 'accident', and dropped the old fence on the garden arrangement destroying several decorative statues. Second day of trying to resolve this matter has not resulted in any returned calls from the management or customer service of the company. No matter how good the product is, if the company claims professionalism but does not want to work with the customer on damaged property, it's a problem. Long Fence cut the gas line while installing fence a few years ago. Had to fight with them to get them to pay for THEIR damage. Tree limb fell on said fence a month ago, called to request replacement panel and was told someone would call me back the next day...he kept saying "odd" while looking at the original order. No one called me back and it's now three weeks later. Have been on hold now for 51 minutes with Customer Service and have be told (via recording) that I am in queue position #1 for more than 45 minutes. NOT A FAN read more

Some of these reviews are so low that I doubt they're all real. Our experience was pretty good. My main complaint is just that they are too expensive, but they get the job done well. They fenced in our end-unit townhouse in one day of work and it looks great. We have two gate doors that open up to a back pathway. One of them was originally hung in a way that made it difficult to close. We called them with the problem and they returned the next day to fix it free of charge. It's not the cheapest deal in town, but I thought it was a fair price for good work. read more

Really wish I had checked out the Yelp reviews before engaging Long Fence. These guys called to cancel the day of installation because of "a truck breakdown" (Seriously? You don't have backup vehicles?) and Matt in their office told me he "guaranteed" that Long would be out the next day to install the fence. Well, the next day, not only did they not show up, they didn't even bother to call despite Matt's "guarantee." The THIRD day they actually showed up.....only to install the gate in the wrong place. The crew's excuse? "We didn't have the design drawings." This is a useless group of hacks. Go elsewhere. Go literally anywhere else. We would've installed the fence ourselves except we THOUGHT hiring it done would save us some time and effort. Our bad. (But don't worry, they send out their bills on time.) read more

Our sales rep promised to have the old fence posted and concrete removed as it's standard operating procedure. It apparently is not and was not done at all. Then I discovered some boards where not nailed at the bottom. That was no big deal, I took care of it. They also didn't scan for property corners and missed the property line by 2 feet, shorting me. But then I discovered they used rotten boards as the topper rails and my cedar post caps keep falling off and getting broken. This is not what I expected for a company this big and for the price I paid to get the fence installed. I have more projects to do but will never call Long again! read more
