Hush puppies were hard as a brick. Chicken was rubber. Could not eat most of the meal. No mayonnaise for chicken either.

There was only one other couple in the place. Several orders were picked up for takeout in my time there. I naturally tried the clam chowder. Very good. Nice and thick. A very generous portion of fish and chips was served along with coleslaw. The fish was in bite sized nuggets which make them easy to eat. The fish was fresh and tasty with a great complement of tartar sauce and malt vinegar. Coleslaw was on point. Steak fries were decent. This was night 3 of my 12 night stay for work. I will definitely come back to try the lobster roll.

It wasn't much to look at, and the air conditioning was spotty on this exceptionally hot day, but I wanted a pint of New England clam chowder and by gosh. That's what I got! Not to mention a small shrimp cocktail - my only demerit was the shrimp cocktail was sitting in a bucket of ice. The bottom half was in the ice, which was good, but the top half was roasting away in the extraordinarily hot interior of the restaurant! I decided to take a chance and ordered that too. You know, it wasn't something special to look at. But? The taste? The clam chowder was epic! The shrimp cocktail wasn't too bad, but the shrimp were a little limp - the cocktail sauce was pretty good though. So was I impressed? Well, after having grown up in Seattle with great clam chowder? I think this clam chowder stood up very well to what I had as a child. But was it so special that I would come back? Maybe not - but damn it hit the right spot!

Somehow they manage to make it feel both healthy and a little decadent. We also love the flatbreads and deserts, and the chicken sandwich and burgers have been great as well - really can't miss. The only thing really missing is a few more solid vegetarian protein options - it would be wonderful to be able to get a grilled tofu steak on that Asian Quinoa Salad. Service is fantastic - you enter from the patio side (steps up front and ramp along back of the patio). These guys are well and professionally staffed and we've always been met and seated quickly. All of our servers have been knowledgeable and helpful in making selections. They have regular tables, high tops, bar seating and outdoor tables. There are dedicated water bowls for anyone who brings a pup (outdoors only) and the dogs I've seen have been well behaved and adorable. We've never brought our dog, but he's still greeted and admired by staff as we pass by on a walk. That really says all you need to know about the wonderful people. Parking is in the lot right out front surrounding the small High Street courtyard or on the street. The dining patio overlooks that same courtyard. All in all a great combination of good food and a nice but casual atmosphere.

It is a bar so expect mostly bar food, but their service is always quick and attentive. I like their cheesesteak egg rolls and chicken wings the best. During holiday season they have seasonal drinks. They only have three tables between their front entrance and few parking spots. Most people seem to come here to buy seafood to bring home rather than eat on the spot. We ordered: fish and chips, lobster roll, and clam chowder. Fish and chips is the highlight here. The batter is so airy and light and crunchy. The fish is juicy and soft and flaky. It's not the most flavorful fish but the texture makes up for it. The lobster roll wasn't as exciting. Meat was a bit rough and had shell bits inside. Bread was a bit dry too.

We were glad we did. We ordered the bread loaf, calamari appetizer, and the watermelon salad to start. The bread loaf was served warm and very fresh. The calamari was cooked fresh and did not last long on our table. The watermelon portion was very generous and tasty. My wife and I ordered the grilled salmon with Korean Koji BBQ glaze which came with stir fry veggies and Jasmine Rice. My wife and I both agreed it was the best salmon we have ever had in a restaurant. Served fresh, hot, and beyond tasty! The portion was generous and the rice and veggies were a great addition. My friend had the New England Clam chowder and lobster roll. The bowl of clam chowder was huge and he devoured it. The lobster roll was served Connecticut style and went down very easy. Coming from Colorado, he could not wait to get his hands on this regional cuisine. I can't speak for the rest of our table but nobody complained and there were many empty plates that went back to the kitchen. The service was excellent and friendly. The prices are very competitive for the area and nothing exorbitant. There are public parking lots located in the area. Highly recommend a visit.

Been going here for years, rarely disappointed. Recently they were closed for "renovations" for awhile. That might also mean they changed hands, sold out. In my experience, that is never a good sign, the new owners will surely ruin a good thing, they'll cut back on quality, raise prices, and change the recipes. My best guess is that's what happened to The Lobster Claw. Or they just went downhill. Went here last week for lunch. Walked in, where am I?! They now have a big divider between the seating area and ordering. You're corralled into this area first. The giant blackboard menu is gone. Now they have a small, cramped, menu above the register. I had to squint to read it all. I gave the girl my order which she got wrong THREE times. The Calamari basket, well done I said. I always used to tell them well done because it tastes better and the breading doesn't slide off the fish. Now where do I go to pick up my food when it's done? There's a sign that say's "Takeout Pickup" next to the register. Is that all one word, or for takeout orders and picking up what you just ordered? So I wandered aimlessly out of the dividing area and into the dining area. A window at the end with a sign, "BEER AND WINE." Is that where I go or is that for ordering booze and paying for it? So I sat down at a table and waited for my number to be called. I got my food pretty quick. I asked the new kid, looks like the old staff was not there anymore, for a lid and a bag for my thimbleful cup of chowder, that cost $7.00 by the way, to take home. He acted like I was inconveniencing him. This is after he plopped the tray down and spilled some of the chowder broth onto the tray. Thanks a lot Junior! Sat down to eat. Calamari...not well done. In fact it looked and tasted under done. It was chewy, and the breading was falling off. ONE tarter sauce with it. They used to give out two and then asked you if that was enough. Saving money for the renovations are we? The fries under the Calamari were soggy, greasy, cold, and under cooked as well. I didn't finish my meal obviously because to be frank, it sucked. Later on at home I tried the fish chowder. Maybe at least that will be the saving grace. Nope. It was the consistency of oatmeal, like it was put in a blender. Bland and watery as well. $ 30.00 I'm out for a meal that I could have got at Market Basket for one third the price for frozen fish sticks and a can of chowder that would have tasted better than that disaster. Next time I'm in the area and want some fish, I'll be going to McDonald's for a Filet-O-Fish meal instead. And another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust...don't let them get you too.
