One guy-- Rosco himself-- running the whole show. -- Pancakes and Sausage: Very large and thick pancakes, so two were more than enough. More importantly, a nice slightly sweet flavor elevated even further by a perfect browning from the griddle. Somewhat but not fully fluffy (my gold standard is Palace Diner in Maine). Real maple syrup available for a $2 surcharge, but a bargain for the large 5oz cup of it. Sausages fairly humdrum, but solid. It's the pancakes that'll get me back. -- Veggie Omelette and Home Fries: This was my wife's order. I'm not sure if it's because she omitted the toast, but it was a gigantic serving with an equally generous portion of the potatoes. She loved the omelette for its unique flavors (some pickled vegetables involved) and the cooked through eggs. I loved the homefries, stealing several and enjoying the crispness and liberal use of seasoning. No onions involved, but very good. Coffee was standard New England Coffee. Tea included a surprise unsolicited refill. Service was outstanding. We came for the food, so it didn't matter either way to us, but for what it's worth, the TV played Newsmax, which may or may not be your cup of tea. read more

Stopped in for lunch with a friend and ordered a burger and found a hair in it. Owner tried to claim that one of us put it there. The chicken I ordered was rubbery and tasteless. I loved the homey feel of this place but the news max blaring on the tv was a little off putting. It didn't make it seem welcoming to everyone. The food was a hot and came out quick. I really want to love this place because I do genuinely love the vibe and the local feel but unfortunately it wasn't the best experience and I probably wouldn't go back for breakfast. I went there today, a Sunday*, and I truly enjoyed the food and the service, and I have to add an angle to my perspective, that I would have not had to add to my review, had I been writing this fifteen years ago. That now, I like a place like Rocco's for what it is not and doesn't have. What it has is normal food. Seeing the negative reviews, my curiosity was piqued to see just what type of diner the people who did not like Rosco's DID like, and the answer did not surprise me. It was like playing a guess the stereotype game: a lot of them gushed on other diner's yelp pages about them having vegan donuts and gluten free this or that. Oh brother. So if you are looking for the hip, trendy, "healthy" reinterpretation of comfort food, by all means, go elsewhere. But those of us actually looking for simple old fashioned food, go here and you will find exactly that. * on a Sunday, you can get only breakfast food. Owner kicked everyone out, then got in someone's face when they said they'd call the police. Dishes were heard smashing while he yelled, and when told they were going to call the police the waitress said "please do". Very bad experience, owner kicked people out WHILE they were eating! DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. Mediocrity doesn't even begin to describe this sad, sack of doo-doo, small business. Charging $1.50 for an ice water, from the tap. I'm guessing they have to charge for the water because they can't keep the business afloat and are desperately scrambling for profit. The fruit cup was so old and inedible, the grapes looked like green olives, and the cherries looked like they were pulled from last year's fruit cake and repurposed (not joking). We didn't entertain eating the old fruit and instead sent it back after letting the server know it wasn't good quality. We were still charged for the poop cup. Sorry, fruit* cup. The ambiance is extremely awkward and uninviting; no music, political news channel on the only tv, watching the severs text on their phones and chew with their mouths open. After reading some of the other reviews I'm actually disappointed in myself for spending any money and slightly supporting this business. I will not be making this mistake again and I urge you to go elsewhere. Brought two hungry hockey players (11 year olds) here after an early game on a Sunday. They left stuffed and were asking if they could come back every weekend. We sat at the counter (lots of counter seats). There are booths and tables too. One got the pancakes and sausage and the other got 3 eggs, home fries and sausage. The food was delivered quickly and was fantastic. The home fries were seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly oN the grill so you get a little crisp on the potatoes. The sausages (4 of them) were moist and delicious and the eggs were cooked well. I can't wait to bring the boys back here again. GreaT find, although we drove right past it the first 4 weeks later. I told you we couldn't wait to come back. The hockey player got the pancake and sausage again. The waitress was super nice and attentive and the food was awesome again. There are several reasons to like and dislike Rosco's. Here's my best assessment; Pros: while understaffed, our server was wonderfully pleasant. The interior isn't fancy but it's clean and the tables aren't crammed on top of each other. There's air conditioning! Menu is far more diverse than most New England diners with a good deal of Greek inspired fare. Portions are generous. Cons: there are only two people working. One server and the owner who I believe doubles as the cook. It's fine if it isn't too busy but a bit slow once it gets busy. As a couple other people noted, it does seem like some of the food, notably the home fries, are frozen and then reheated as opposed to freshly made onsite. Neither my partner nor I asked for any accommodations or substitutions so we had no trouble ordering. I thought the hollandaise for my Benedict was a little bland. Biggest Con: patrons are subjected to watching the right-wing, for profit garbage spewing "news" network OAN. we simply can't go back for that reason alone. read more

I've never been 'kicked out' of an establishment in my life. My family was asked to leave because we brought our coffee cups in. We were visiting family in the area and we were trying to support local shops. We brought our leftover coffee cups in from visiting a local coffee shop and sat them on our table. Despite the fact they were empty, the owner took offense. My 9 year old got to see how grown ups can be really stupid.
