I went with their 9 ounce Filet Mignon, medium rare, with sautéed spinach, while my wife had their Chicken and Artichoke meal with mixed vegetables. I ordered their Caesar salad with anchovies (you have to ask for them). The Caesar salad was just wonderful, with plenty of salty anchovy goodness present. My wife ordered their chop salad, but they'd run out of that, so she got a house salad instead - and yes, the server did inform us of the switch and made a cost adjustment without being asked. A high point of Ellwood is an above-average wine list. We tried a new cabernet which was good. The wine bottle was opened by the server without it touching the table - nicely done! The steak was cooked properly, and was oh so tender. Very nicely seasoned. The sautéed spinach was perfect - plenty of garlic. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her dish. Dinner was so good, any thoughts of dessert were abandoned. We had wine left over, so they put that in the right sealed bag with a receipt so it could be legally transported. The filet is provided in a cabernet reduction. This may have been a bit much, it was hard to taste the filet with the reduction. The filet came with broccoli which was steamed and was nicely done. The baked potato was cooked through (as expected, and worked well with the butter and sour cream. My wife enjoyed her Shrimp and Grits - the shrimp was cooked quite nicely and seasoned well.
