Met a business colleague at this establishment on 1/13/26 for a late dinner. We were seated at the bar for a few adult beverages and decided to order a pub burger with Greek fries & Pork Chops. My burger was cooked to perfection (med-rare), and the Greek fries were a welcome addition. My colleague had the pork chops, and there was nothing left on his plate to take home. First I want to say service was excellent. So why the three stars. They advertised boasted chicken on Tuesday's on line on their door and on their menu. So craving their boasted chicken we go and was told at ordering no broasted chicken today Tuesday. The waiter said reason sold out THEY THINK because they sold out Monday. First the waiter did not know why (ok poor communication with the staff as to lack of availability) which to me is unacceptable for a restaurant that is a very enjoyable place to dine. If no chicken then the restaurant should place a sign on the door or let the staff know so we as a patron knows in advance. We were highly disappointed today in that respect. So let's talk goodness. We ordered potato skins they were large and filled with yumminess. I loved them so good. Then a fantastic bake French onion soup cup size. Great taste and cheesy but I really liked the breaded onion strips on top that made that soup over the top. My main dish was a grilled Rubin. Darn good with hot French fries. Like I mention a 4to5 star for food service 5 star but not pre warning costumer of a canceled dish after heavy advertising I have rated a 3. Can't wait to go back and enjoy that boasted chicken just hope it's served when on the menu. The restaurant very clean and I like the quickness of the support staff. The manager helps and goes to tables making sure everything is up to par. Maybe I am too harsh on this review but that shows how disappointed I am I was really looking forward to that delicious broasted chicken. Had the Shrimp DeJonghe at the South Elgin Squire last night. It was overcooked - I think that was a Father's Day special dish. They don't normally cook that and maybe they shouldn't.? Other than that, we experienced our usual average time We go there two or three times a month. Maybe we go there too often. I'm not appreciating it the way we used to. The service is always good. Great food. We were passing by from Lake Geneva and saw this amazing looking restaurant. They offer free popcorn when you get seated, then later give you freshly baked rolls with butter. We all were stuffed before our meals arrived, but basically the value for what we got was pretty good! Our bill was $135 for 3 adults and 3 children. As a group of four adults and two kids we came in for a late lunch on a winter weekend afternoon. We were seated and served right away. The restaurant looked great with holiday decor everywhere. Drinks were ordered and the hungry preschooler got in his food order. Soon we all ordered off the menu, a mix of salad, dinner and sandwiches. The meals arrived real quick. We drove from Wheaton to try the Village Squire for the first time They have lots of good Yelp reviews, they have many menu options and on Monday evening they have a magician who does table magic. Sounds fun. I will get the only disappointment out of the way. The magician didn't stop at our table. He went to 2 tables in our area and then went to the bar. After a few minutes in the bar area, he went to the hostess/cashier and spent time talking to her. By then it was time for us to leave. We were disappointed. He would have been disappointed to know that he missed out on the tip I planned to give him. The food and service were excellent. I can't think of one thing I would recommend that they do differently. Special shout out for the warm bread served with the meal. My husband and I went to treat my father to a birthday meal for his 85th birthday. They sat us down with popcorn and no water while waitress disappeared for 20 minutes. He choked a few times and we had to wait for anyone to notice we need a little water please. Ordered the two-piece broasted chicken meal for my dad and what we received is a thigh and wing, so mostly bones, very little meat. We're hoping to get a chicken breast or a drumstick at least, but I guess they must save that for the four-piece chicken meal. Good luck getting white meat when you order a chicken meal. Baked potato was solid hard undercooked potato we could barely "squish" in the foil to add the sour cream and butter. Do not order baked potatoes here. Menu said French onion soup was part of the chicken meal but we were served chicken soup instead. BBQ sauce/ hot honey sauce comes in a hard-to-open plastic packet like something from Taco Bell... yet the burgers are 20 bucks, limp hot lettuce and thin meat. By the way, You'll only get water if you ask for it, they don't bring water to any table until you place your order. Bring your own Stanley cup of water and maybe you might get the server's attention. read more

Decided to go out for an early Friday family night dinner and was not disappointed. I haven't been here in years and it's still as good as before. I love the Chicago mushrooms! They are creamy and delicious. The shrimp street tacos were cooked well and had great flavors. I enjoyed the cheese pizza as well... The sauce is very tangy like a good marinara. My kids really liked the chicken fingers and fries too. They also really love the complimentary popcorn bowls! Our server was very attentive and had a great demeanor. I love the decor and lighting here because it definitely feels like an old "tavern" but very family friendly. The prices are on par with most places that are similar IMO. They always manage to screw something up, for 2 extra bucks I ordered extra avocado and ofcourse I didn't get it. Just two tiny slices that I guess is the norm for their turkey burger. My fiancé and I visited the restaurant in south elgin today 9/2/2025. The greeting was fine and the seating as well, I started with the MaiTai drink, and then ordered my appetizer saganaki. The cheese came and the flame didn't light up for the waitress, so she told me she'd get me a new one and then turned back around to delight the same one. It wasn't a new one which I knew took at least 6 to 7 minutes to prepare, but it lit anyway and I ate it. I then ordered another MaiTai and my entrée. I asked in advance about the broiled chicken and was told I could not choose white or dark because it was the chefs choice. I asked again why because my fiancé did not eat dark meat and was told the same thing again. I replied im paying $18.99 for 2 pieces of chicken I can't choose but I looked at the other menu and saw 1 chicken breast for $18.99, it didn't make sense to me so I asked to speak to the owner and the server Althea went and another woman named Araceli came over and told me she was the manager. I asked the same question as before about the chicken choice and she repeated the same answer. I stated I could go to KFC and get a bucket for $20.00 but I love the Squire. I have visited Dundee Elgin and figured I would try this one and leave a review. However she still said there was nothing she could do so I asked again for the owners information and I was also displeased with the Mike's Hot Honey that I had to rip open with my teeth!!!! Im paying at least $60.00 by now and this is just for me because my fiancé decided it was too much for him at this point. So Despina one of the owner/ manager came over to hopefully rectify the situation and said she told Althea I could have a wing and a breast or a leg and a breast, but Althea didn't say that to either me or my fiancé, so Despina went to the kitchen and came back with a leg and a breast and I reminded her about the hot honey and she gave my fiancé a piece of chocolate lava cake with ice cream for free. That was cool and we just got ready to leave but I did try the chicken and potato before packing it to go and it was so Bland and Flavorless I couldn't believe this was what my fiancé spent $60.00 plus tip on for only me!!! The drinks could be much better for the price, the Saganaki was the Best thing and the bread and butter were fine. The chicken with rice soup was ok, but the food overall needs much more flavor especially since you can't choose what you want. And Anytime you take food from a table because it's the fault of the restaurant then it needs to be prepared fresh again. I stopped here for a Sunday afternoon meal, and found they were featuring roasted chicken. I chose a combo with 2 pieces of breasted chicken and half slab of ribs. The meal included a warm small loaf of bread, choice of soup or salad (I chosen the Greek-style chicken and rice soup) on the plate with my combo entree was a small portion of baked beans and one of Cole slaw. My October fest pork tenderloin was a generous helping and the cabbage sides were fine. A salad rounded out my entree. The hubs had a burger - his go to. The food was virtually standard fare. I would say these are my favorite for dry rub wings I've had so far. I liked that I had textures of crispy garlic on the skin and the meat was juicy. Came with celery and 2 ranch containers. My bf order wings as well and it was nice that they gave him 2 of his own ranch containers too. I'm not really a fan of pretzels but their pretzel made me change my mind! My boyfriend said it was almost the same price as a pizza but it's huge. Soft, like eating the inside of a loaf of bread, and that's my favorite part. It came with 2 different sauces. One seemed to be like buttery but it's so good. The other has a kick to it, maybe chipotle? It was a bit thicker. We've been going there a few times a year since 2015 or so. Since Covid the service and accuracy has gone very down hill. Tonight 3 out of our 4 orders had mistakes. There were two flys to top it off that wouldn't leave our booth area. Popcorn was stale. The waiter was nice, but I don't know if he made the mistakes or it was the cook reading the order. My husband ordered the you pick two Turkey (he assumed club, so mayo and bacon) apparently it's just a Turkey sandwich $15 for 1/2 and flavorless onion soup. At least the mens bathroom was clean. Tip - don't try the French onion soup. We've taken turns trying over the years and it has always lacked flavor. read more

Not terrible, but the price at the end was $9 more than the price when ordering online for the exact same items. We got quite a few appetizers (onion rings, potato skins & chicken tenders). I would say that the online menu & pricing definitely varies than their actual menu. The chicken tenders appetizer didn't include fries like the menu stated. There were some items that their menu said they had that they actually didn't. The only things I would recommend are their homemade ranch & their onion ring appetizer. Those were yummy. read more

I usually enjoy this place. I eat here almost every week. But I just had the Sauerbraten from their special Oktoberfest menu. It was tough, dry, and downright awful. All because they made it with eye of round - the cheapest cut of beef on the steer. Thoroughly unpleasant. If you go, avoid this menu selection. No chef who values their clientele would serve that awful piece of meat. One day later. I tried the Schnitzel which is an Oktoberfest special. Avoid this one as well. They haven't figured out how to execute a schnitzel crust. Theirs is gummy, gooey, partially burnt flour. Nothing crisp at all. The red cabbage was pretty decent, though. Just order a burger.
