Hubby wanted to take a road trip to Springfield to go to one of his favorite stores. I decided to tag along if he would take me out to lunch! So I got on Yelp and the first restaurant that came up was Long Nine Junction. The reviews were great and the menu looked amazing so I set my sights on here. It was easy to find, but we had to park far away and walk, but nothing was going to deter me. When we walked in I noticed how small it was, but instantly felt right at home with the warm greeting. The menu is on the wall and everything sounded so good, I wanted to try everything, but I ended up getting the Roast chicken. Now I've eaten a ton of chicken in my life and I even make a mean roast chicken, but I have never had a Roast Chicken this good...ever! It was juicy, tender with crispy skin and the herbs just danced on your tongue. It was truly exceptional. It came with mashed potatoes that were creamy and thick and so good. It also came with a small lightly dressed salad that was crisp and fresh. Also on the side was a roll. It looked like a parker house and homemade. It took me right back to my childhood thanksgiving. I was in heaven. It was the perfect meal in every way. I love how they have things set up. As soon as you walk in, you order at the counter. Then you grab a glass, fill it will ice and they have ice tea or water. They also have bottles of soda. You grab your silverware and napkins and then find a seat. It's very small and it encourages communal seating, but it wasn't that busy so we ended up at a table by ourselves. Hubby got the meat and potatoes bowl and it looked incredible. He inhaled it and said it was fantastic! I saw other people with sandwiches that looked so good. I want to try everything! I'm a picky eater, so when I find a place that checks all my boxes, I'm a happy girl. There may not be much space, and the bill might be higher than many places, but you sure see where the extra money went when you dig in. I've only eaten here twice, but the flavors have been outstanding on both occasions. The first time was a sandwich featuring apple butter, sausage, and I believe goat cheese. I also had German potatoes which were not like the German potato salad I have had before, so I was a tad let down with those. Today's trip was Mojo pork shoulder with chicken pazole. Man the flavors just exploded on the palate and was a terrific combo. As I was leaving, I just had to buy one of the snickerdoodles that had come from the oven as I arrived. We stopped in just before afternoon closing time for a quick cup of coffee and a snack. The owner and her husband were cleaning up, getting ready to close, but they happily waited on us - made a fresh pot of coffee just for us! Nothing better than fresh coffee and tasty chocolate chip cookies! According to the owner, Long Nine Junction has been in business for about a year and does a big downtown lunch trade. On the weekends the place is open for dinner, too, and buzzes with business. About one minute before closing another couple came in for lunch. No problem for the owners. They fired up the grill all over again and whipped up hot lunch servings while we watched. The Long Nine Junction is a great downtown stop in the heart of Springfield's business district. We were traveling for work and needed a good spot for lunch, so decided to stop in here as it was highly rated. We found some parking pretty easily down the street, and the location is really cool across from the Old State Capitol. The front was packed when we walked in, but that's because it's order up front then sit - once we ordered there were plenty of spots open. Their menu has a TON of great options, it was really hard to pick. I ended up getting the cubano and vegetables, both were bomb. The atmosphere was very cute, potato sacks as cushions and very vintage farm feel. They served everything on metal trays which was adorable. Everyone I ate with had nothing but good things to say. If I could give Long Nine Junction 6 stars I would. It would hold its own in any major city! Long Nine Junction is a cozy establishment that greets locals, tourists, and hipsters alike. It's decor is eclectic from the handwritten menu on butcher paper adorning the wall or Mason jars that serve as cups. I quickly zeroed in on the Patron pork torta, avocado aoili, queso fresco, slaw, and mixed greens. The pork was juicy, and fell apart with every bite. The bread somehow managed to stay crisp. The aioli was very subtle and the slaw crunchy. It was incredible! I opted for a mixed greens salad which was an even trade. The citrus vinaigrette was light and airy. Don't forget the pickles, they were amazing. My husband was drawn to the French dip. It was actually quite delicious. The bread was crisp, the meat tender, the cheese melted. The Cajun rice was also quite good. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is very casual. You could easily spend the afternoon with friends sharing good food and conversation. Long Nine is my favorite space in town. Walking in the small busy space, I am ALWAYS greeted by a smile and a "What's Up, Man" or a "Heeeey, how are you". The staff is incredibly friendly and maybe more importantly incredibly efficient and there are no ghosts. This place runs like a dream. The food. The food is perfect, simple staples with complex flavors, you'll almost forget your in Springfield. Organic and local ingredients aren't hidden but showcased. There also, are no Ghosts. I've yet to be disappointed by anything I've ordered. I want to say again how good the staff is: When my son was born we spent 18 days in the NICU, I would often come grab lunch to take back to the hospital. The owner noticed my NICU wristband and asked me about the baby, offered genuine concern and prayers, and I could tell she meant it. It was nice to feel loved on by strangers. The next time we came in with the baby, she recognized us and came by and talked with us for a moment and checked in. Another time when we were in the hospital for a shunt surgery, I went to pick up lunch after a very very long morning and picked up my order. I realized I forgot to get my wife the "something sweet" she asked for and so I asked them for something and they told me I needed a brown butter cookie and they gave it to me for her. Gave it. Because they could see I was stressed... that's good business. Many places preach community and it's nothing more than a marketing tool. I don't want to come off as a self righteous vegetarian but I am always hesitant when attending restaurants like this. I walk in and see that their specialties are meat based sandwiches. I scanned the menus and saw that the "Local Plate" was a vegetable panini with grilled asparagus, goat cheese, pesto aioli, and was served on focaccia. It was delicious! My partner and I just finished an incredible lunch here. We're traveling up to WI and yelped around for a good lunch spot and dang did we find it. The food was fresh and clearly all made in house. The atmosphere is cheerful and homey. You order at the counter and an incredibly kind lady brings you your food. It is a pretty small space but they fit lots of seats in it. It also wasn't too loud despite the crowd. The favorite thing I ordered was the Tom Lincoln kha soup- crazy good. The turkey on my sandwich was fresh, juicy and clearly just carved. My partners beef sandwich was also crazy good. I don't think there are any wrong choices at this place. The iced tea and lemonade were self serve and very high quality- also surely made in house. The service was excellent and so kind. I mentioned we had to get going on our drive and asked to get a to go cup for their tasty drinks and she gave it to me without a second thought. So after all of the hype I finally made it by here to try it out. Beer place with cool decor. I stopped by and grabbed some carry out for lunch. The sandwich was hot and tasty but rather soggy due to the container. The Mac & Chz side was pretty tasty. A carry out sandwich and side for $12.50 is a bit on the high side imo. Visited the local farmers market downtown so had to stop for lunch. Got there around 11:15 and it was already almost full and we had to stand in line to order. I got the grilled cheese and a cup of black bean soup and a root beer. Ed got the pork belly sandwich and potato salad which he let me sample. Both orders came with bread and butter type homemade pickle slices. Everything was very very tasty and fresh! Service was fast and the staff was friendly. They make their roast beef in house and it's served with homemade au-jus gravy. But the soup of the day was *even better*, I wish I had ordered a whole bowl. It was a potato soup, but not thick and creamy, and had chunks of ham hock in it -- the flavor was wonderful. I wish I had a local sandwich joint like this in my neighborhood in DC. My husband and I ate at the Long Nine Junction on the excellent recommendation of one of the staff at the Lincoln Museum, and we had an AMAZING meal! We stopped in a little after the normal lunch hour, and were immediately greeted by Jared at the order counter (who cheerfully bid everyone welcome as they arrived and wished them a good day as they left). The layout of the restaurant is long and narrow; one orders at the front counter, pours a Mason jar full of iced tea, lemonade or water, and finds a convenient table. The food is delivered to your table after a short wait, and it is simply, utterly delectable! Everything on the menu is sourced locally and is very, very fresh. The menu is filled with delightfully surprising and unusual offerings; I had a BLT sandwich with pork belly in lieu of bacon, and it was honestly the BEST I've ever tasted! The pork was heavenly--tender and juicy--and the blend of flavors was just right. I also had the side of chef's vegetable medley (zucchini, broccoli, and cauliflower), and I actually enjoyed the cauliflower! My husband had a Cubano sandwich (again, an unexpected offering) which was extremely tasty and cooked to perfection. He chose a bottled soda from the extensive selection provided which was a perfect complement to his meal. The restaurant also has such menu items as Moroccan salad and peach BBQ pork; it was interesting to see such culinary variety on a lunch menu. The prices here are extremely reasonable, and with such great food provided by a cheerful and friendly kitchen and wait staff, you're guaranteed a pleasant dining experience. Corey, the owner, is also one of the chefs, and we saw him several times during our meal pop out from behind the counter to check on an order, talk with a customer, or encourage one of the staff in their duties. Because of the restaurant's location (just across the street from the Old State Capitol) and its seating capacity (approx. 30 to 45 diners), it might tend to get a little crowded during the standard lunch hour. It's justifiably a very popular dining choice. We noticed an equal mix of locals and tourists, and a fair number of folks selecting the take-out option (which might be used more frequently during the lunch rush). Kudos to Jared for doing such a great job of being the face of Long Nine Junction, and to Corey for his commitment to excellent food, excellent service, and an overall excellent dining experience. He also had the Peach Butter BBQ Pork which I tasted and thought was excellent. Portion size was good. Not too big, but not small at all. Great little place to stop for a quick bite in the heart of Springfield. The building itself is beautiful and full of history. I had the black bean and cilantro rice soup (good, not amazing) and the grilled cheese, which was excellent.
