We visited this tiny sandwich shop after a day in Springfield doing all things Lincoln and at the recommendation of the docent at the Lincoln Museum. Because of coronavirus we sat outside on the sidewalk but the staff were friendly and as accommodating as possible. The service and food is excellent and was served promptly. I highly recommend this venue in downtown Springfield IL. The name is derived from Lincoln and 8 of his pals and the fact that they were all tall men. read more

Located in Downtown Springfield directly across 5th Street from the Old State Capitol. This is my go-to lunch spot in Springfield...then again, I think it is also my go-to dinner spot. There aren't many places in town doing something as interesting and ambitious as Long Nine Junction is attempting. I have visited at least 10 times and have never been disappointed with any of my meals, from sandwiches to full dinners. My go to lunch options are the Cubano pork sandwich or the Parisian country sausage/goat cheese sandwich. Sandwiches are large portions which sometimes leads to a difficult afternoon! The Long Nine is often busy during lunch but I have never seen a long wait for food. The Long Nine also makes baked goods and desserts which are highly recommended! read more

We like this downtown locally owned restaurant, truly unique and innovative. Pickup is made easy, the food is delicious. I like the half chicken with potatoes; their sandwiches are good, large, enough for 2 meals! Wow. I was in Springfield for a few days and LNJ was recommended by a friend. I was told it was a good "soup and sandwich" place. This wasn't just a soup and sandwich place, it was a gold mine. I tried the Bistro Beef and Swiss. It was phenomenal. I can honestly say this was the best sandwich I've ever had. I cannot think of another meal I had that surprised me as much as LNJ. This was my first time dining here, and I am extremely impressed! The atmosphere is super comfortable, but chic as well. The owners were behind the counter and were super friendly and welcoming. I ordered tge special sandwich of the day, the BLT, and it was SO DELICIOUS! The ingredients were obviously fresh, I wouldn't be surprised if the tomatoes were grown in their own garden! Guess I'm going to be the dissenting vote here. I wasn't blown away with anything. I got the slow roast beef for lunch, which was quite tender and flavorful. I thought it was mediocre at first, but it grew on me as I ate more. The simple salad is nothing more than that. I also had a cup of the sweet corn bisque, which my wife really loved. Call me a peasant, but I would have enjoyed a serving of canned creamed corn more. The homemade rolls are pretty good. The service is kind of amateurish, but very friendly. Great artisan sandwiches served on crusty toasted buttered bread. The Cubano was delicious pressed pork and cheese with sweet pickles on the side. The roast beef au jus was rare and served on a baguette with horseradish sauce on the side. Delicious. read more

I had a pork belly sandwich with mixed greens and blue cheese aioli. It was fantastic. Just three ingredients but it was excellent. Perfectly cooked pork belly (crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, not overly fatty) and the brioche bread was perfectly toasted. I upgraded the bagged chips to a side of their special slaw, which was also good. It came with homemade bread and butter pickles as well. That and a lemonade came out to about $14.50. The portion was more than generous, I actually had to take some meat off the sandwich and eat it by itself. You'd pay almost the same for a large sandwich and sides at places like Quiznos or Subway, so the price seemed very reasonable. Service was friendly as well. Ok so I don't give 5 stars that often but this place definitely deserves it! I had the open face turkey with mashes and pork gravey today and omg it was soooo good! Bought the gooey butter cake but was so full I could not eat it there. Took it home and had it later on with a cup of coffee and it just melted in my mouth. This place rocks! They locally source what food they can in season and get their meat from local farmers. Fresh, good home cooked food, compliments to the chefs! The owner and staff so friendly and gave great service. There was not a single thing we tried off the menu that we did not like! I loved the ambience - casual and cozy with a rustic feel. (The bathrooms were nice and clean.) All of the staff were helpful and incredibly pleasant. Our food was brought out quickly and it was amazing. We tried: Slow roast beef with homemade bread and side salad French dip sandwich (everything about this sandwich was divine) Cubano sandwich Cajun dirty rice with extra homemade bread LOVED EVERYTHING!! I typically do not write reviews but this place was exceptional. I had to take the time to write about it. Chef Corey is always coming up with new dishes that are fresh and packed with flavor! Everything from the main course to the side has a unique spin to it that brings out the flavor. Heads up, it's not the easiest to find if you aren't familiar with the area. The food was very good. I had the citrus Chipotle Pork Shoulder and it was phenomenal, just spicy enough to catch your attention but not spicy enough to be unbearable - as my side I chose a soup with pork in it and it was also amazing and the queso in it was amazing. My friend had the garlic bread grilled cheese and he also thought it fantastic. Maintained a unique dish with the cheese used and garlic bread. It's definitely something to try at least once. We both however thought that portions were mildly small for the price paid, however not by much, I'd honestly say that it would be perfectly priced if all the mains went down one dollar - like I said, not much. If prices lower or portions increase this would easily be a 5 star, and either way I will definitely come back. Also this restaurant has some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered. First time here and there is no way I will not be back. The "Beer Belly" sandwich has to be one of the best, if not the best sandwich I've had. Chipotle maple glazed pork belly, white cheddar beer cheese, and bacon mustard slaw on a sweet bun! Whoever put that concoction together is a pure genius! Had a side of Mac and cheese with it and it also was delicious. This place deserves all of its 5 star reviews.
