I decided to give Long River another try cause it seems to be hit and miss. I ordered the shrimp and lobster sauce lunch meal. The shrimp was mushy and fell apart. It tasted funny. I had to throw the whole thing out so that I wouldn't get sick I called the manager and he didn't seem to understand what I was talking about that the texture of shrimp is not supposed to fall apart on its own. I placed an order through yelp I don't think I was late picking it up. When I got home about 5 mins later I started to go through the food I tried the bun app it was hard on the outside and not a lot of filling on the inside. I ordered eel a dragon roll it was good but the chicken I ordered General Tao was not the way I remember it tasting. I'm used to it being crunchy and having a little bit of a spice bite. This was not crunchy at all, and I felt like it was just chicken nuggets that they rolled in some sauce and threw into the bowl. It did have a couple of pieces of pepper and I did do the up charge on the fried rice, which was OK it wasn't great. I am not sure if it would be different how I ordered it in house and eaten it hot, but it was not good as a takeout order. So I didn't have a chance to see inside the waite staff were pretty good about finding the order and did it quickly. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun (minus shrimp-allergy) portion was huge. I love seaweed salad and theirs was excellent. Of course you have to have the house mustard. The service (take out) was very efficient and they smiled!!! read more

I'm shocked by the reviews on this Chinese restaurant, especially when this place is on the top best Chinese food on Long Island. I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food and while I do love Chinese I'm just very picky. This place is hands down one of the best places I tried since living on the island. The quality is just too tier and you taste it in every bite. Presentation of the food and the packages is A1. Sushi's here is also amazing and they have a lot of options of Chinese as well as buns and other options. I normally got with the sesame chicken which the quality is amazing. White meat and non of that dark nasty looking meat and the chicken and broccoli my girlfriend get is amazing. I use to love chicken and broccoli but the meat freaks me out and this place uses top quality chicken. You see the difference in the protein quality compared to other places and this spot is Amazing. The best Chinese I've ever had in my entire 64 years of living and I lived in china for 2 years

We have been getting food here since 1984. Most of the time we would say the food is good. However two weeks ago I ordered Lemon Chicken and when I got it home it was overcooked and tough. I had to throw it out. Now that said I had the dish about a month prior and it was fresh and delicious. I think they recooked a lunch portion and that's what I got. Overall It is good for a quick meal most of the time but really disappointing this last time. Best to stress you what your order cooked with fresh portions. read more

Don't order from here! Customer service is non existent and their website sucks. Ordered 6 sushi rolls and 4 arrived as hand rolls, although I did not choose that anywhere. When calling to find out what happened, the young kid at the front desk said "sorry to hear that. Have a good night." I asked for assistance navigating the website, but he knew nothing about it and basically hung up. And now what should've been 24 pieces of sushi is 4 rolls wrapped in thick seaweed that my kids can choke on and that I cannot separate. I hope no one vomits. read more

I placed an order for delivery on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at 7:21pm through their website. I received an email confirmation for my order from ChineseMenu. At approximately 8:30pm, I started to wonder where my order was since I am less than 5 miles from the establishment and it shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to get to my residence. I called the establishment and was directed to voicemail. I called about 10 more times with no response. It was getting late and their website claims they close at 9pm, so I was starting to wonder if anyone was even there. Anyway, I ended up ordering Domino's because at least they are more reliable and I was able to track my order from start to finish. I decided to follow up and call the restaurant on Wednesday, February 16 and I was told they were open on Monday for the "holiday" (Valentine's Day) and closed on Tuesday. It sounds like the owner forgot to turn off online ordering on their website. I was assured that I would not be charged for the order since they have to process it through their system when the order comes in. It's my go to spot when I'm in the area. They went Asian Fusion awhile ago which expanded the menu. Sometimes bigger is not better. It's a local Chinese spot with dining in, on one side. I think my favorite things are the Ribs with black beans sauce & the salmon skin salad. It's good but not great. Yet it's not as bad as some other reviews have stated. I grew up in West Islip and I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant that rival's Long River where I live. I have been coming here for years before moving. Despite owner changes and being solely a Chinese restaurant to revamping to Asian fusion, I still stand by their egg rolls and chicken and broccoli. It's my favorite. We dined in the restaurant section and they start you off with noodles, duck sauce and hot mustard. We also ordered some hot tea. I, of course, got the chicken and broccoli platter and my husband got the sesame chicken platter. Both were good but I'm pretty sure the portions are smaller than I remember. Service was friendly and quick as always... maybe too quick. Not one table was empty and we were still in and out. No doubt we will be back. read more

I literally just ordered a takeout order with Uber eats and before the blame gets put on the driver for taking too long. My driver got the order to me from west Islip to Islip in 6 minutes. That being said, I have been in the restaurant industry for 25 years. I used to order from Long River all the time because it was great until it wasn't. Chinese food in a Togo container is always incredibly hot even if it gets delivered late. I order the chicken and broccoli combo. The sauce was still congealed (NOT HOT OR HEATED UP) Seriously?!? ICE COLD IN THE MIDDLE!! The fried rice was ice cold as well! I hate leaving reviews because most of them aren't credible but like I said, I have been in the industry for a very long time and have read those unfair reviews. The one and onLu reason I gave Long River another shot was because Penninsula was closed. Long river used to be the best in Suffolk county. So I'm always around the area and I'm always getting Chinese food from another place. A friend always buys their Chicken Noodle Soup that looks amazing, she recommend I go there instead. I finally tried it out and they were SO friendly. They were quick. They did have a lunch special which included a decent size Chicken and Broccoli, also my soup. The only thing I don't like is getting out of that parking lot because it's a busy street. My first time there was today. I first walk in and it smells like fish, which immediately turned me off. (There's no fish tank or anything, so idk where this scent came from). I get the food go home and begin to eat, I found a black hair in my rice and gravy and cringed. The boneless spare ribs are pretty much dry. The rice and gravy was actually good (minus the hair) the fried wontons are really good too. Just the fish scent and the black hair really turned me off. Picked up an order yesterday, Staff is very nice and friendly. The Generals is marginal ( as stated in a previous review was more like chicken nuggets in a bland sauce) and the Szechuan Chicken was very salty. Sadly it's not the OLD LONG RIVER from a few years ago. We haven't been there in a few years, were in the area and decided to get the take out. The current rating of 2.5 is about right. It takes a lot for me to give a 1 star to a restaurant but my husband and I were that disappointed. Keep in mind that this was a delivery order and we did not eat at the restaurant (maybe it's better in-house). We figured we'd give it a try as a friend had recommended it. We order the scallion pancakes, crab cheese puffs and a quart of the wonton soup. The appetizers were the best part of this meal, but still under par. The scallion pancakes were very fried and broke like matzo bread. The crab cheese puffs were also very fried and were alllllll cream cheese (I don't think there was a hint of crab (imitation or real) was in the mix). The wonton soup was okay, at best. The wontons had little meat and were almost all dough. It was the first time I had wonton soup with semi-caramelized onions in it. For the entree we ordered masaman curry and chicken pad thai. Let me start with, we llloovvee curry (all types) and this was by far, the worst one we've ever had. The sauce was the consistency of gravy, way too thick and the flavor profile of traditional masaman curry was not really present in the dish. We ate a bit of it and unfortunately couldn't continue so we threw the rest out. The pad thai (and we eat a lot of pad thai too) was even more disappointing. The noodles tasted old and over-cooked and any vegetables in them were mushy, making the consistency weird and unsatisfying . It had 0 peanuts in it, the sauce wasn't present in the dish and it tasted very unpleasant. My husband and I each took one bite and threw the dish out. All-in-all we will NOT ever be ordering take out or dining-in at this restaurant. read more

Been going to Long River since I bought my house in 1997 and they were at the old location. I've been skipping regularly order Chinese food (used to do once a week) as I've felt they are not as consistent anymore and dishes are very different depending on which cook you get. Ordered tonight and paid no credit card ($48+) as I had no cash....I asked for a cup a little cup on fresh mustard I get everytime I order but after I paid and I'm told $.25....wth....I've never been charged for that before at any restaurant and never here...you cant just give me a tiny cup of mustard after I spent nearly $50???
