This is a small but great Vietnamese restaurant. We went for a late lunch - we were the only patrons so the service was outstanding. I wanted something light and they have a few lunch specials. I had short ribs which are served with rice with a cold jasmine tea with honey. We also had spring rolls. The portion size of the lunch is small, which was fine for today. I read in other reviews that the portions are large, so I'll order off the regular menu next time. The short ribs were spiced nicely and cooked perfectly. It paired well with the rice. And, the spring rolls were fresh, and larger than I've seen before. And the jasmine tea was outstanding. I look forward to returning soon. read more

Unfortunately our normal Vietnamese Restaurant was closed today, we made the choice to venture out to a new one. We ordered two Banh Mi sandwiches (extra pickled vegetables, and no cilantro). Easy enough. We received two sandwiches, that had shreds of pickled carrots and the skin off a cucumber. The sandwiches were soggy, not sure why since there really wasn't any pickled vegetables. I got takeout from this place with friends, and we all enjoyed our food. The prices are reasonable, and the dishes were fresh and flavorful. I love Bun Cha Ha Noi, and it came with grilled pork belly, pork patties, an egg roll, fish sauce, some veggies and noodles. This was tasty and fresh, though the pork belly was very difficult to get off the skewer. I also tried the spring roll, which was delicious as well with the peanut sauce. I dined here for the first time the night of Thursday July 9th with my boss and 2 coworkers, for our team dinner (we work for a nearby $26 billion global manufacturing company)! We had a great time here (well, all but 1 of us, due to that 1 colleague being an extremely finicky, insufferable, annoying AF vegetarian)! Anyway, 3 out of the 4 of us LOVED the food, service and ambience here)! For appetizers, we had the spring rolls and pork belly skewers (both were fresh and delicious)! For entrees, 3 of us had the Spicy Vermicelli Pho (that was awesome too)! The annoying high maintenance vegetarian colleague had the bao (but without the meat) in it. For drinks, I had the Mango Slushie, a colleague had a flavored iced tea, and our boss just had a Diet Coke. The service was spot-on: our server was pleasant, professional and patient (especially when having to deal with our vegetarian colleague's BS hang-ups about what she didn't like about their otherwise delicious menu selections, because she's so annoyingly choosy when it comes to food. Oh well--she created her own high maintenance dining hell for herself that night which thankfully did not kill the evening's vibe! Anyway, I plan on coming back here! Although they don't have my favorite Vietnamese appetizer (Ban Xeoh) - which I find extremely puzzling and annoying AF - I'll still come back for the other delicious food and drinks they serve here! By the way, they don't serve any alcohol here (my boss wanted a beer, so she was disappointed that they served no alcohol here), but that's never a show stopper for me. I absolutely loved eating here. One of my favorite teas is Jasmine tea. This particular Saturday was freezing and straight away I asked if they had it for my friend and I to warm us up. Not may restaurants serve Jasmine tea. It was such a treat that they had it! Delicious. For appetizers we had the Vietnamese spring rolls and the pork belly. Outstanding. Everyone you just have to eat here it's so good. The pork was crispy on the outside, perfectly seasoned, and chewy on the inside. Juicy too. It was so good. I wish they had just brought out a small bowl of it. The spring rolls were generously stuffed and the peanut sauce it came with was on point and only enhanced by the table hoisin sauce. I would eat here daily if I could. Anyone who lives in this area is so spoiled to have this down the street. For the Pho, I had the meat combo so I got a little bit of everything. My only feedback would be that the veggies that come with the soup are sparse and I wish more Thai basil came on the plate. They loaded up on the bean sprouts though and that was awesome. We picked up an order. This is a super small restaurant... maybe 6 tables tops. It's cozy and the wait staff were very friendly. Maybe this is rare? But the to-go items were packed in a plastic ziploc bag... seems kinda of strange to me... but maybe putting bean sprouts in a plastic bag rather than a to-go is the new normal? I ordered the vegan pho. It was really disappointing. The soup was composed of about 1 cup of mixed veggies broccoli/cauliflower/snap peas With about 2 cups of a veggie broth and a plastic bag of bean sprouts, Thai basil leaf, a lime and a sliver of jalapeño. The broth was pretty good. The pho noodles I wish were a little thicker, but it was still good overall. The amount of sprouts that came with the pho was plenty. Overall dining experience was a great. Service was OK, but overall good. Food came fast, but near the end, things slowed down, as we waited over 10-minutes after we were done, and ended up just going to the front for the bill/payment. Not sure if they usually expect the customer to go and pay upfront, as we did see the neighboring table get their bill. We spent over $50 and they informed us we can get a free drink. My son ordered the mango smoothies and he said it was really good. Ambiance of this place was good. Dining area I would categorize as small. There were a few tables, and if eyeballed it, probably can sit around 20 people. When we got there, we were able to get a seat right away. Food is just ok. Typically, ethnic food in the suburbs tend to make their food much more bland than usual to appeal to the demographic in the area. This place is no exception to that. Service was horrible. The old caucasian guy that wears glasses was the waiter and he was horrible. Bad demeanor, didn't greet anyone as they entered, didn't care to take anyone's orders. Reminiscent of Vietnam A spot that is deserving of recognition within the area. Recently Coming back from my home country Vietnam, Long An is highly reminiscent of the food I had; especially their bun cha noodles.. from the savory grilled nem patty and fried eggrolls, nuoc mam perfecty adjusted for taste, the herbs and noodles.. all combined together to satisfy the palate with a rich flavorful experience. We enjoyed our lunch at this small Vietnamese eatery in this popular strip mall. The pork egg rolls were crispy and flaky. My friend enjoyed the chicken bao (2) and we shared some crispy fried wings. They were plain, kinda basic, although nicely crisp. I had the Bun Cha Hai Noi which came out on a tray and my friend and I could have shared. The pork belly skewers were so tender and I loved all the fresh herbs, bean sprouts and other add ins to customize this cold noodle soup/salad. And it came with another egg roll! The traditional bun dish was good--the pork skewers were the more flavorful option vs the patties and the spring roll that came with the dish was also tasty. Yum yum! Came here for the first time with my bestie. We are pho hounds so trying a new place is something not unusual to us. We came in around lunch time and it wasn't very packed which was nice. **Beware, the signage for the restaurant is a bit smaller than everything else around it so it was a little daunting to find but the lady we talked to when we called was super sweet and she helped us find it.** The interior was brightly lit, tables were clean and they had hand sanitizer at every table which was nice to see. I have to agree with her regarding my eye round steak and beef steak pho. It was also tasty and the broth was good. I do wish they added a bit more meat because I got a lot of noodles, a tasty broth but not a lot of meat which was disappointing. So the beef to noodle and broth ratio was a little....off. My friend enjoyed her brown sugar boba saying that it wasn't too sweet or too bland, nice mixture of both. I thought my boba was good but I wasn't too crazy about the actual pearls, too chewy for my liking. I also got a grilled pork belly banh mi to go and my bf said it was good. Bread was fresh and good amount of pork belly inside. Also, he said the pork belly had a nice, crispy, sweet and slightly savory taste to it. Presentation was good but why was the flavor NOT THERE. It didn't have that umami rich broth that I'm so used to. Being from California I should have known better, but I was craving pho and wanted to try this place. The pho needs some fish sauce or some more bone stock/ beef stock. It just was not hitting the spot. I'm so sad. I will say the coffee I got was good and the spring rolls I love how chewy and the texture of the rolls were. Those were super good to me! The vermicelli dish was OK. Nothing crazy it was good but needed some more veggies and meat options for it. Overall the food was OK, server was friendly and out going. The spring rolls were of thick rice noodles, the sauce was not bad, it's not too sour or sweet. The vegan roll was a bit weird, not sure if I'm a fan of the vegan beef slices, it doesn't have much taste. The vegan pho broth was a bit flat in flavor compared to what a pho broth would taste like. There were vegan meat balls and fish balls, but all of them taste a bit artificial, not bad but not great either. Not much flavor overall. The toppings were fresh. Oreo taro was pretty good, but does taste like from powdered milktea base. A small but great place to enjoy a VIetnamese meal, the food here was fresh and plentiful with some more interesting options than many of the other spots in the suburbs. Prices were fair, given the large portion sizes and fairly generous servings of meat. Service was alright given the limited number of staff available -- with food being served quickly but water refills and other requests taking a little longer time. The food here is really the star. I was able to try the Bun Cha Hanoi with lots of meat, noodles, veggies, and fish sauce. One thing that I really liked about the pork belly was that they trusted enough in the quality of the meat that they didn't overly season or sauce it, so that you could really get the full flavor of the delicious meat. Similarly on the Bun Nem Nuong, the meat was nicely marinated and charred, but the pork sausage texture really shone and was super enjoyable. The egg rolls and shrimp rolls were also quite crispy and tasty, better than most that I've had around here though they could've used a bit more seasoning. However, the cucumber, lettuce, and bean sprouts were super fresh and made for a wonderful salad. The double bowl pho continued with the high quality meats and veggies though I would've rather preferred a huge bowl of soupy pho. The broth here wasn't the richest or most flavorful, but I really enjoyed the balance -- in particular with the veggies, basil, and lime. The meat was not served raw but was just cooked with a pretty good texture and I was surprised at how good the meatball was. Overall, great place to get delicious Vietnamese food at agreeable prices and large portions. With the limited options for Vietnamese food, decided to try LongAn since the reviews were all pretty good. Overall, I love the quality, the flavors and the service. The hostess had such a warm welcoming voice and was rather nice. The dining area is rather small so definitely not accommodating for large groups. It's nestled between the Burger-Fi and Tous le Jous on Milwaukee and Lake Ave. One reason why I didn't give it 5 stars were because the higher price point and the only way to pay is via cash. I don't know many people in this digital world that carries tons of cash. For my wife and I, our pho, Bahn Mi and apps were over $40. I hardly carry $20 on me. Everything is either credit card or Apple Pay for me. I understand the fees but that's just a factor of doing business in this day and age especially for pricier food. This cute little restaurant is located right off Milwaukee and Lake Ave in Glenview. There's no outside signage with the business name. It's in the same location as a previous Vietnamese restaurant (change of ownership?). I ordered the original banh mi sandwich and an order of fried egg rolls through their preferred online order. Ordering online I was able to pay by credit card. If you dine in, it's cash only, so be ready to hit up the ATM before you go. It's a smaller place and was pretty busy around 1pm on a nice warm Sunday (50 degrees in Feb!). The pick up time was 25-30 mins so I shopped at the bakery (Tous Les Jours) and picked up a milk tea at Palgong Tea. Both are just a couple of storefronts away, easily walkable. Onwards to the food - I can't give a review of the pho, but it smelled very good walking in. The banh mi was mediocre. I was disappointed by it. The bread was harder, it crumbled after a couple of bites, and lacked the fluffiness of fresh bread. The ingredients were ok, the pork roll tasted old "porky" and off. The pickled daikon and carrots were extra finely shredded and not really pickled so it was missing that sour, sweet flavor. This was a very disappointing sandwich and for $9.95, it was not worth it. Very lackluster in flavor and ingredients. The fried egg roll was pretty decent. It was on the smaller side, just a little bigger than a Filipino lumpia. For $5.00, it was just okay. The flavor was good, but about 2 bites for my sons. There are a lot of delicious Vietnamese restaurants nearby so I won't be returning to LongAn Restaurant. I'm disappointed in the quality of ingredients and the taste. The picture I took makes the sandwich look so good, but the bread was stale and the ingredients weren't fresh. We pass by LongAn Restaurant frequently and decided to try it out for dinner on a weekday evening. There's about 8 tables inside and only one was occupied at the time so we were seated quickly. Although there is no formal kid's menu, the waitress said that we could order from the lunch "mini menu" for our toddler. Thus, we ordered the mini steak pho for her. Our toddler's food came out first and then ours came out shortly afterwards. There was a small portion of noodles for the bun cha Ha Noi and was definitely not enough to eat with the meat. Extra noodles are available for a surcharge but I didn't want to pay extra when the price for the food wasn't cheap here. The meat was bland/not flavorful so it was disappointing. My toddler didn't finish her food so I finished up the rest of her mini pho since I wasn't full after my meal. Her soup was also not very flavorful either. I love pho and I finally entered this restaurant right before my husband and I had to relocate. We ordered 2 bowls of pho, the banh mi, and an iced coffee. Pho broth is good. It's clear, flavorful, and leaves you with a comforting feeling. The best part they have a small portion that was perfect for me. It's rare for me to find a place that sells a small portion pho. We've been a longtime fan of the former Buncha and have been eager to try out LongAn. We visited for Father's Day and was surprisingly pleased. We ordered the mini short ribs, pho brisket, and buncha, and they were all excellent. We also ordered the strawberry smoothie with boba on way out, and it was perfectly refreshing and not too sweet.
