I loved our experience at Serious Sanji! We were seated right away and the restaurant was super clean. Our server was attentive even though there was a bit of a language barrier. I'm a sucker for bubble tea so I loved all the options they had on the menu. It's great to go here with a few people so that you can order a few different things off the menu to try. We got chicken soup dumplings, which were pretty good but not the best I've had. We also had the pork sanji, green beans, bbq buns and the cutest little piggy buns which were amazing as a dessert. They had a custard inside that almost tasted like pineapple and coconut. Overall, loved the meal and will definitely return to try more things!

Serious Sanji - Northbrook Chicken Pad Thai + Chicken Fried Rice = perfect combo General Tso's Chicken (comes w white rice) = crispy + flavorful Chicken soup dumplings = must order 5/5 Loved the flavors + portions, everything was super filling and perfect for family style dinner. We had leftovers of everything which is always a win. Great spot to go with family or friends and share a bunch of dishes together. Check out the full review on Instagram: @ratedbyaleena_

This is a fun Asian restaurant in our neighborhood. It's a dim sum concept with quick service. We've been there twice. On our mid-week dinner experience we had. No trouble getting a table. When we returned on a Friday night there was a wait for a table with quite a few people ahead of us so we placed a to go order. Everything I've tried has been good though the dumplings are a bit doughy. If you want something different from typical Chinese food give Serious Sanji a try.

Seriously, Sanji? We had a good visit here so I'm going to increase by another star. We came for lunch on New Years Day, and we were seated right away. We ordered cucumber salad, scallion pancakes, pork soup dumplings, shu mai, greens, bao, and custard buns. Our food came quickly, it was hot, delicious. Basically, they seemed to have ironed out most of the minor problems from the last visit. Seriously Sanji? Good job!

Been wanting to try this place for awhile now. Of course it was because of the dumpling with boba in one presentation. But they had so many choices i would definitely go back for more. Service was great very attentive. Place was bright nice and clean. I ordered the Lorus Wrap, Crystal Shrimp Dumpling and the boba with mini sanji (dumplings) Everything was great if you compare it to the staple dimsum place everything was smaller but more. Like the lotua wrap usually comes in 2s in other places theirs came in 3s. I feel luke the crystal shrimp dumpling the wrapper is bit thicker than what im used to but taste is good. Definitely must try and im coming back to try more things on the menu. Happy Eating!!!

I'l go with 3.49 stars for our lunch visit to this newish suburban dumpling house.  The wife and I ordered 4 dishes, namely:  - beef sanji, $10.95 - pork and chives steamed dumplings, $10.75 - shrimp rice rolls, $8.95 - pork soup dumplings, $11.95 They were all in ok range for the price, and I would say it's a slightly pricey menu, but that's fair as it is a new, airy, and modern restaurant in a newish suburban strip mall.  My favorite was the pan fried beef sanji actually, which were flavorful and with good texture on the fried dumpling skins.  The pork soup dumplings were pretty good, but the broth tasted a bit of chicken flavor, which wasn't bad and maybe neither here nor there, but it wasn't a typical taste of soup dumplings we have had.  The texture of the smallish shrimp rice rolls was very light and delicate and not as firm as with typical rice rolls or crepes.  The pork and chives dumplings were pretty ordinary and wife said she could make the same quality at home.  Overall, decent dumplings, but for a lunch retailing at $42.60 pre tax and tip, the two of us were not stuffed either. Besides dumplings, they also sell some dim sum and other stir fry and noodle entrees as well as milk teas, smoothies, and beer.  I would tend to stick with their dumplings as that is their specialty.  The service was fine and they had pretty brisk business on this Thursday lunch time. It's a nice suburban franchise to have around.  Their location is very convenient as they are basically right off of I-94 at Dundee Road.  Congratulations on the opening of your first franchise here in Illinois!

Came here with friends after seeing it all over social media. I'd recommend the Mango Sago and Mini Sanji. Heads up the Mini Sanji only comes in pork, while the regular Sanji has different flavor options. I'd especially recommend getting the Mini Sanji with boba if you're looking for more of a snack or on-the-go option, though the boba selection is limited for this combo. The soup dumplings had plenty of soup, which was great, but the flavor was a bit off for the crab and pork ones. The piggy buns were cute but on the bland side. We weren't really fans of the other boba drinks we tried. They were pretty sweet, so I'd suggest ordering 25% sugar. Service was friendly but could definitely use some improvement.

Soup dumplings for the win! We stopped by after Barnaby's looked crazy crowded on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. All the tables here were full, and despite being told the wait would be 20 min, we only had to wait about 10 for our party of 4 to be seated. Sanji is still working on their liquor license, so beer is not available yet, though you'll see it on the back page of the menu. Yay: - onion pancakes. Crispy and flavorful. - beef chow fun, albeit a little greasy, but flavors and textures were there, and it was served piping hot. - beef Sanji! Crispy bottoms and full of plump meat. Also have to try it given the name of the place! - soup dumplings, served with cute spoons for consuming! Nay: - piggy buns. Visual appeal won over the taste. These are filled with a custard, but overall the bites were a bit bland and dry. - rice in lotus leaf. They were very modestly sized and would rather fill up on soup dumplings! We'll be back! The host and waitstaff were very nice and hardworking.

Seeing this restaurant all over instagram I knew we needed to make a stop, and we're so glad we did. We came by for an early dinner (and boy did they get busy!) around 3:30pm. We were quickly seated and we ordered a few of the items our waiter told us were best sellers. Our favorite were the mini Sanji with the drink, they were fried and were already dressed so we just have to poke and enjoy. The flavors were delicious! The spring rolls were okay. The shu mais were perfectly steamed. The soup dumplings unfortunately were super salty for us. Maybe we just came on an off day? But the piggy buns were so cute we almost couldn't eat it. It was the perfect sweet treat to finish our meal. The two drinks we got were a mango green tea and a taro milk tea. I love sweet drinks, but they were a tad too sweet for me. The best part is you can adjust sweetness, something for us to know for next time. Overall a decent experience. I'll definitely have to come back for the mini sanjis!

I get a little too excited when new restaurants open in my neighborhood and I'm apparently in good company because Serious Sanji has been absolutely packed for their soft opening. We decided to skip the crowds and do takeout from here for dinner tonight. We ordered some baos, a variety of dumplings, hot & sour soup (spicy!), spring rolls and cucumbers. Everything disappeared within minutes because the entire family was a fan and my always ravenous boys were asking for more. Next time we will have to order more! I look forward to dining in and am also excited when we are able to get this delivered, which I assume is coming based on their other locations (mostly in Florida). It's a great spot that I think my family will enjoy eating at and at home pretty often!

So good! The food was so tasty and the pig buns were super cute! The staff was super nice and everything came out so quickly. I would recommend the boba and pork buns. I would 100% recommend this restaurant.

I had been extremely excited when I accidentally found out that Serious Sanji opened last Monday, 9-29-2025 (soft opening). I told my entire extended family about it, and got them excited as well. Last Thursday, I went with my husband and daughter to check the restaurant out. When we arrived around 7:00 pm, we snagged a table by the window close to the counter, the cozy restaurant was almost totally filled, with only one table still available. Interestingly, when I passed by during the day, the entire crew was Asian, but none of their front-of-house staff was Asian in the evening. Our server, Michael, was very friendly and took our order efficiently. We ordered five items and three cups of hot green tea. There was some upbeat pop music going on, but it was very loud, that we had to raise our voice in our conversation. When a different server came with the first item, it was not recognizable as something that we had ordered. I even thought that it was a dainty dish of appetizer on the house! Boy, was I wrong! It turned out to be Shrimp Rice Roll (my rating is 1/5) that we ordered, but it had no resemblance with the menu picture at all. The 3 little rice rolls were tiny and flat, with small shrimps wrapped flat inside. The shrimps were hard and dry. The rice rolls did not have the texture of standard rice rolls. This first dish priced at $8.95 was the first disappointment. Then, they brought out the Fried Shrimp Siu Mai (1/5). They were practically just deep-fried dough with nothing inside. I expected actual siu mai that was deep fried. I didn't even know what I was eating, and 6 little pieces of "dough" are priced at $7.95, are you serious? The Lotus Wrap (3.5/5)($8.95) was a bit better. There were 3 small wraps of sticky rice with meat and mushroom, but could use a bit more flavors. The Signature Fried Noodle with Chicken (3/5)($16.95) did not look like the picture either. The noodles were mushy and broken up into short pieces, they were more like "lo mein" than fried noodles. I would not dare to wish for "wok hey" at this point. However, the flavor was not bad, and the chicken was not dry. They saved the best for last. The Pork Soup Dumplings (4/5)($11.95) were actually pretty good. There were 6 pieces in an order. Michael brought out 3 red dumpling catchers that really facilitated eating the soup dumplings. I would return and eat this dish again. We did not try the Sanji bao this time around. At some point, we might return and try that dish. I hope Serious Sanji would improve and is here to stay. My suggestion is that they should just focus on what they could do best, like their soup dumplings and Sanji bao, and get rid of the unauthentic dim sum that is going to hurt their reputation. Definitely should remove the rice rolls and fried siu mai, unless they change the recipes. Also, the food should look like that on the menu photos, that customers use to guide their decisions. Then, both their customers and they would be happier. I don't mind that they are on the pricey side, but the food has to be good to match the price. Yes, I am serious!

The mini dumplings and taro milk tea boba really hit the spot! This combo made for the perfect snack.

Ordering was a breeze and the guys were always open to a conversation or giving suggestions. The restaurant was clean and the meal was always tasty. Just a note but the further away you move from any major city the fewer and harder it is to find great Asian food. The suburb is lucky to have them. The pandemic brought new staffing. Some were pleasant with customers though one lady, a supervisor had the wrong ideas of what customer service and proper etiquette is. Just the basics of my final visit. I took my family for lunch. We ordered lunch specials and a couple extra must-try plates. Two specials hit the table and the third was left waiting for her meal. Unbeknownst to us in the moment, her food was handed to a single patron there for his lunch. The place was filling up with a lunch rush but not so many that had complicated orders. Many were ordering similar lunch specials. Kung pao lunch special was popular. When her order finally arrived the supervisor realized she had given the wrong plate to the customer sitting some tables behind us. Mind you ten minutes had already passed. She quickly went over to him and asked what he had ordered. She then took the plate he was eating from and handed him the fresh plate. He was still holding a half eaten egg roll in his hand. Then she brought the quarter eaten plate and placed it in front of my mother. Before she could leave I stopped her and asked her what she was doing. She simply stated that was her lunch order. I told her she handed my mother someone else's food that they were eating and I watched the whole thing. Why didn't you take that to the back and make a completely new plate of food?! I paid the bill and got the F**k out. That's gross. Also, you gave the other patron new food but cannot do the same for our table?? This place is dead to me. If she could do that, it beckons the question of what else is happening behind the scenes.

Even if we don't consider its rarity, Da Local Boy is a winner in every category. The prices are very fair for the enormous portion sizes, the decor is fun and appropriate, the service is friendly, and food is phenomenal both in flavors and textures. The only possible criticisms are that the space is a bit small for how popular this spot gets, and the parking in the area can be a bit limited around popular meal times. The food here shines, making it worth a special trip -- both again for the rarity but also the quality. For me, the poke nachos are a must order item, just the perfect mix of large chunks of tuna with super crispy wontons, fresh avocado, and a good helping of sauce. Amongst friends, we've agreed that this is a must order item. The huli huli chicken is also unreal in flavor and texture. Besides being marinated and sauced well, the chicken is melt in your mouth tender while simultaneously having a delicious crisp skin. Think brick chicken, but with more flavor and a much better price. The rice and macaroni salad that accompany this are also well done -- and feel more like a core part of the meal rather than an afterthought. The grilled pork is pretty good as well, though I kind of wish it wasn't sliced as thin, as certain pieces felt a bit dry. The spam musubi with a light touch of furikake also provided a flavorful, fun dish to accompany the other delicious items I tried. Overall, delicious and consistently surprises me with the quality of the execution and bold flavor combinations. This is on my top places to visit in the area and has never disappointed.
