Back when the Rambo family owed this place it was the best choice a person could make, particularly from a customer service perspective. But ever since it was sold a couple years ago it has gone completely down the drain. Yesterday I went in, and due to lack of pricing on bottle or shelf, I had to bring bottles up to the register just to know the price -- each of which was high. Following the third overpriced bottle I decided to leave, at which point the sales clerk berated me for not returning the unpriced bottles back to the shelves. A short little sales clerk, maybe suffering from insecurities arising as a result, but an insufferable prick nonetheless. read more

Choices were fine, but I went in with my mom for a girls weekend and the guy at the counter I kid you not asked her if she was "buying these drinks for that underage girl behind her" in the most snarky tone ever. My mom is not very confrontational and literally stopped in her tracks and goes "haha that's my daughter don't worry she's old enough." All he said was mhm. like i said choices weren't fantastic but they were fine, service could've been kinder or at least asked to see my ID if he thought I was underage instead of being a jerk to my mother. read more

First, the people who own / work in the store couldn't be any nicer, I spent 45 minutes talking beer with the owner's son. Very knowledgable, he pointed out multiple CO beers I had never heard of, and went out of his way to answer questions. Secondly, easily one of the best selections of diverse beers I have ever seen. Well this place is just great! I stopped in after a long day in the mountains and after trying a Humming bird in Boulder, I knew it was going to be my summer drink. The guys inside on the floor are super helpful and the red headed lady behind the counter is a hoot! Don't let the exterior fool you, it may look like a general store but it has a huge selection of craft beer. Three dedicated fridges of just CO craft beer plus craft beer from different states. Staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. They gave us a ton of top picks to choose from and they had such an outstanding selection. They have a large liquor selection and good variety of ciders too. Highly recommend you stop in before or after visiting RockyNP. read more

I suggest the Allenspark folk shop here also. The selection and prices are great and the owner is worth a trip. Holy Bottle Shop, Batman. This is the spot. Having been to some horrendous liquor stores in Estes Park, I felt like I ought to kneel down and kiss the ground when I walked into Rambo's. The selection - quality and quantity, liquor and beer - rivals that of many of the best big-city shops I've been to. And, ask the dude at the counter what he's hiding in the back. When he saw the beers I picked up, he offered me some other options from the back. Those offerings were top notch, and dude clearly knew his stuff. Like I said, this is the spot. This review is just for the excellent craft beer selection. I'd call it substantial (2 or 3 cooler's worth) rather than huge, but it is very well-chosen. Plenty of Colorado microbrews and Belgians but lots of other stuff too. The owner and her son were very pleasant and helpful. In addition to talking beer with me, her son pointed me at a restaurant with a good beer selection. I'd consider this a great store if it were in a big city. The selction was good, better than the other places we went while in town. The owner was great, she was friendly, made us laugh several times and asked us alot about our trip and made us feel so welcome. She said he son orders all the "fancy" beers, and so glad he does. Wow. This place is fantastic. By far the best liquor store in Estes Park. Their craft beer selection is through the roof and they carry hard to find bottles/bombers. Excellent customer service by every employee there, from the owner and her son (Matt Rambeau) and his wife. If you are looking for something, simply ask them and they'll bend over backwards to get it for you (if they can). If you are looking for hard to find Colorado made beers--this is the place. The owner hooked me up with some frisbees for kids too! Matt has a deep passion for what he does and what Rambo's is about. This Wisconsinite was very pleased and looked forward to stopping in there 4 or 5 times during our trip to Estes Park. When coming in on Highway 34 and passing the lake, look for it right next to Murphy's Resort on the left hand side. Also--they always have wine and craft beer tastings going on. So, craft beer: Rambo's has the best selection I've seen west of the front range and as much hard to find stuff as I've seen in any single place. Selection and prices are five stars and the service is six stars. What justifies such hyperbole, you may ask? Talking beer with someone even more enthusiastic about the subject than you, having them run in the back to grab something super hard-to-find that just came in that day (barrel-aged Ten Fidy), and watching them come back with another hard-to-find catch, just because they know you'd want it (Pliny the Elder).
