Called in to ask for quote for an alternator issue, asked for an estimate because my car doesn't move , and Mr Long very rudely responded " go talk to someone else " and that he needs to run diagnostics first to give me a quote even though I already diagnosed it and came to a conclusion that it's in fact the alternator. I understand it's Mr Longs private business but definitely will never recommend to anyone because of the unprofessionalism and the way they talk to their customers. The front desk lady that picked up the phone had no answers for me and handed the phone to Long who proceeded to say he doesn't have time to check a quote for me. Front desk lady also very unhelpful. Thank you Long for being absolutely fantastic to work with and for fixing our family car. My longtime mechanic dad (newly retired) recommended Long to fix a very troubling problem with my Audi. He said, "if you want someone honest who truly understands Audi, go see Long". And that is exactly what we did. One hour away from our house we drove to his interesting and understated location. He was friendly and knew exactly what was needed when I explained why we were there. The entire process took just under a week due to ordering parts and Long kept me updated along the way. This guys is a crook I told him I was new to California and didn't know much about the smog. I was missing my air filter box when I took the car That's an automatic fail "I know now" He stared right at it Instead of being ethical and letting me know that I should get that box before anything , he decided to continue the smog and charge me 80$ Then I told him I would come back for the free retest after I fixed the 2 things and he told me It's only a free retest if he fixes it! He's a carless who just cares about money ! O and he laughed when I told him I would fix my car myself and asked me "are you a certified mechanic or smog tester" Like what a jerk! I wouldn't send my worst enemy to his shop. Dont let his secretary fool you either She's just as bad as he is , she tried telling me every state has a smog check and that I should be surprised about it.... I had a great experience having my car repaired quickly by Long! I came in for an unexpected (aren't they all?) radiator repair - he was able to get my car into his shop the same morning, and finish the work in a day and a half. He was professional and kind, and explained all that he did for the repair, as well as items I should look at having done in the future (but no pressure to have them done now or by him, which I appreciated). He also offered to do a once over on my car for no charge before I head back home to Colorado in a few weeks! This is what put him over the top for me. A really nice person and a great mechanic. I just wanted to know everything what the status of my vehicles and how much the estimate. Long told it takes 3 days but I want to know the price. I came there on thurs and waited the whole day the estimate cost. And ask them after an hour or so. They keep on telling me after an hour , then after an hour after, they wont tell me. They said they have to see more. So a day after, I called again They wont tell me and what they telling especially the lady his wife, " if you keep on calling us, we wont do your vehicle and she is talking with his husband" . What f.. I rent a car for 4 days almost a thousand dollars. That shop dont care, they care more about those other cars. Nobody do cars except him. This is not the one if you want to wait that long to fix it unless you are the only customer on that day. read more

A long time ago, I used Mr. Tran's Smog Check service when Long's Auto Tech was at the 1778 Smith Ave. location. It was excellent! If I live in San Jose, I would utilize their service more often for sure. At that time, I was near San Jose, needed a smog check, Mr. Tran found that my lights were nearly out, replaced them free of labor for my safety, the smog check was done right too. I had to make a last minute appointment, he didn't get frustrated at all for my bad logistics handling, he actually was all smiles and made it an easy experience for me. RV Folks. . . .This is the place for smog, engine and suspension work Had many quotes on my RV for suspension work, every place had a different story. Nothing jived, When I pushed for explanation I was given generic responses. This repair/upgrade was expensive. . . .very expensive and I wanted it done right. I have used long for smog on the RV so figured as a last resort I would give him a shot. He not only contradicted the other shops but physically showed me the issues and explained the fixes and upgrades. He showed me the difference in what was installed and what he was replacing things with. Basically Dollar store parts inside replaced with NASA aircraft bearings. Awesome stuff. Considering I drive my family and friends down Hwy 1 in crazy wind, good suspension in a must. Trust this guy and he will make it right. Highly reccomended read more

I came into Long's Auto Tech with a Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) after having failed at another smog test location. After quoting me a day of work before diagnostics, I was given a call a few hours later informing me that my car had passed smog with no additional work needing to be done. They gladly refunded me the $120 that it cost to diagnose the problem (since it past the initial smog test check). The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Thank you again guys! And I will be coming back for any additional automative repairs & oil change. read more

I do not recommend this mechanic to anyone! He's a very shady individual with very dishonest ways. I have no doubt that any positive reviews are highly inaccurate or fake too. My parents went to this mechanic to get repairs on numerous occasions, as did I, and we referred him to others too. He always charged extremely high, but we would pay him, because as his sign read "high quality work doesn't come cheap." Regardless we trusted him and the work; very big mistake. Over time we started to see trends, the same mechanical issues kept emerging (for everyone). We would also often have additional problems on top of the original mechanical issues (fake), but guess what, we trusted and forked out the money. Next we noticed up-charges for the same reoccurring repairs. "Fluctuations in part prices" For all the nickel-and-diming that we got, there was just as many excuses as to why. This guy and is staff would even change the license plate holders to his personalized ones (for advertising) even when we already had our own personalized ones that we purchased! Turns out he tossed them after!! Finally we got tired of this, and as mentioned, the trends just really stood out not to do something about it. We finally decided to put him to the test. We asked for old parts back, but guess what, "sorry" he tossed them. We would tell him in advance to save them; "sorry" he forgot. When we started complaining, he would give us a discount but then apply increased rates on another relative or referred friend (probably to make up the discount). It got to the point that we started marking parts to see if he would actually change them out (thanks to another mechanic) and this is where we really got him. He wouldn't even actually make the repairs but then would claim he did. This is down right deceitful!!! I admit we were stupid for allowing ourselves to be swindled for so long and for so much, and yes maybe that's on us, but it's just wrong on all levels as a human being. Are there any mechanics that can still be trusted out there? We reported this guy to the BBB, 7 on your side, and finally the authorities; but they told us to take him the court, which we were in the process of doing when he was at the previous location and before he moved; we didn't know where he took off too. Now we see that he's in business again at this location (same guy, same business!) which prompted this review ASAP! Avoid this business at all costs or you'll get ripped off! Once a crook always a crook in this type of business. I don't want to see this happen to others. You've been warned. read more

I had my car towed here after hours by AAA, and Long's Auto Tech made my experience really easy! They were very communicative and clear on the phone about the tire replacement and TPMS valve repair, and they had the car ready to pick up 2 days later, as originally estimated. He's a really friendly and helpful guy and made sure I understood the repair he was going to do and that I was happy with the result. Overall, a great experience! read more

Super flexible, fit us in for a longer appointment than expected. Lots of varied experience (we were in for a smog check, inspection, and various issues with our RV). Sometimes we had a few communication challenges. And it took a little longer than expected. Also, if you're looking for a fancy place or smalltalk, this isn't the right place. But I felt we got an honest deal and that his work was competent. We've got more work to do and I'd go back to Long's. read more

I see this shop every day on the way home. Yes it is tucked away ,but not hard to find. My BMW needed a smog so I decided to give Long's a shot, Very glad I did. Long was able to diagnostic and explain why the car failed , fixed it and it passed !! Honest, friendly and great service . Up front pricing and the service was preformed in the time it was promised, They have a sign on the wall that says " Cheep Labor isn't Good, Good Labor isn't Cheep" I agree. I went in with a CAP letter for a STAR Test-and-Repair. Long took me in right away, even on a Saturday. He charged me for the necessary smog and required diagnosis, and said he would accept the CAP. Within hours the car was ready. I had passed the smog, so he promptly refunded the diagnosis. It was great to find such honesty. He didn't keep what I paid, take the CAP, and then charge me over the CAP. I've definitely found my new mechanic. Excellent customer service, speedy service, and honest service. My 30' RV needed troubleshooting and repair of the engine driven AC. Almaden RV recommended Longs. I dropped by to check them out after reading two bad reviews. Long was friendly, understood what I needed, showed his prices and promised fast turnaround. I dropped off my MH in the morning and it was done the same day. Had to leave it overnight since it was too close to closing time to pick it up. They promised to secure it. Picked it up the following morning. Price was as indicated and Long was helpful to get the MH out of tight place for me, and explained what they had done to the AC. I would recommend them and will return. read more

Professional service with the highest integrity! I highly recommend this shop for all car care needs. My car had "failed" its smog test at Green Star Smog on Keyes St. I called Long and he recommended that I contact the CAP program to try and get some financial assistance for the necessary repairs. I did and was able to get the credit, however, when Long tested my car (twice) it passed both times!! They happily refunded my diagnostic fee and only charged me for the smog tests. This shop has one of the cheapest smog checks around, even a better price those those places with Yelp deals. I came on a weekend and did not have to make an appointment or wait. Mr. Tran is very thorough and not only performed a smog check but also checked the tire air pressure. We chatted a bit about vehicle maintenance so I was able to pick his brain on a few topics. The waiting area is very simple but clean. There are a few pictures of Mr. Tran's son back when he was serving in the military. Stuff like that makes me proud to patronize local businesses. Great service, and very friendly. The only down side is the location. The shop is basically right next to 101, kind of out of the way, but it's worth the trip. read more

I have a 2009 Subaru Forester that one day just started "stuttering," if you will, then all these lights flashed on my dashboard. Shortly after, it shut off completely. Turns out 3 of my 4 cylinders were misfiring. Long fixed the issue after giving me a free diagnosis... with changing the timing belt, spark plugs, etc (I'm not automotively inclined, so I'm sure lots of other things). The lights then came back on a week after picking it up, with which Long and another shop told me it was the catalytic converter that needed to be changed. Instead of attempting to fix ASAP and charging me, he suggested I call the dealership to see if then product was recalled so I could get it done for free, and also gave me a quote of his parts and labor price should the dealership cost more. Nonetheless, I had it done for free at the dealership as it was under warranty (PZEV). Long also replaced my radiator after it the hose cracked. All parts and service is under warranty! I don't think you can beat that (in addition to competitive prices)! He is very knowledgeable, and always seeks your permission and gives you a quote before working on your vehicle and charging you willy nilly. Also is AAA approved! read more
