We had a beautiful 1926 Grotrian Steinweg Piano that needed to be refurbished and, unfortunately…read moresold, so we called Crofton for the refurbishment and subsequently to sell it on consignment. Crofton Piano picked it up from my mother's home in Virginia, gave her a statement that she would get $15,000 upon it's sale, refurbished it and listed it on their website for over $45,000. It hadn't sold in over a year and we weren't surprised by this...we knew it would take some time to find the right buyer. I finally called to find out the status of the piano only to be told that it had been sold on an installment plan to a "gifted pianist" for $6,000. At no point had we been contacted to approve this and Mr. Fisher claimed he "lost" my mother's contact information. Finally after getting my attorney involved, he promised to send my mother monthly payments of $500 for a total of $6000 and we accepted since it was clear we were never going to see that $15,000. He sent two payments and the money stopped coming. My mother is on a fixed income and that money would have helped her a great deal. Steer clear of this rip off artist.

William and I spoke of the concerns and issues with an 84 year old instrument and asked a variety of questions as to touch, key response, etc. After further discussion we decided to use this time to address those issues. Johnson's only moves pianos, so their technique & equipment is customized to just piano moving. I had one or two entrance steps at the house in Hagerstown and no steps here - just a threshold. A team of four men moved the piano fast & efficiently, & even helped me decide its best position to save space. R was Johnson's employee with their name embroidered on his polo shirt. He was very cordial and professional in demeanor and appearance. I paid $800 for the move but I was given a discount of $50 for a cancelled booking next day delivery time window. I was very pleased with this company.

My husband had played for years and since this was our first home purchase, I really wanted to make that happen. Tom, a Vietnam Vet and hero, reached out to me, heard my story and desire, and made it his goal to help us get a beautiful piano delivered. Our budget was ridiculously tight, and Tom made it happen. I researched everywhere, from estate sales, other online marketplace forums, about 15 different piano stores (some local, some not). After all of the research I had done (not knowing much about pianos beforehand), I learned that unless you REALLY know your stuff, you needed to go through a reputable company. If a piano wasn't tuned for the duration of its life, it could look pretty, but it wouldn't be very functional. I almost made a deal with another company that I would have regretted... and then Tom called and from that moment, I had an absolute peace about working with him. He was not a "salesman," but a true gentleman. Tom went the extra mile by a lot!!! There was one piano we thought would work, and it was even bigger than my original plan. After Tom looked at the pictures of my home (and staircase), we decided to wait for another piano to become available. There was a little bit of time that went by where I didn't think we were going to find it, and then... the call came. Tom found the most beautiful Yamaha, ebony, baby grand that plays incredibly! My husband was completely surprised and has loved at (1) having a baby grand piano delivered in his home without him there, (2) that I stayed within my designated "muahahaha" budget, and (3) that we found such an incredible person to work with. The piano delivery service was also excellent! Such care, such professionalism, and physical strength too. It's been four and one-half months and my home has been filled with music ever since. Once we decided on a piano, Steve was able to make the magic happen so we could bring it home! This included trading in our baby grand.
