12.25.24 Surprisingly, very crowded for Christmas. The gardens are beautiful, however, it was smaller than I was anticipating. They estimated it would take 3 to 4 hours, but my husband and I were done in one and a half hours. I wanted more lighting on the grounds as some areas were pitch dark. My husband said that it is intentional due to needing it to be dark for the Christmas lights to stand out. There are shuttle buses if you park in the south lot that take you to the visitor center. That's what we did and avoided the main parking lot. Overall, I had a very lovely time. I just wished there had been considerably less people there. Highly recommend. read more

I bought tickets and tried to reschedule, the link on their website to move the dates was not working so I decided to call except I was on hold for AGES!!! When they finally picked up, the workers were so rude and claimed they "couldn't hear me" but my phone was working perfectly fine on my call minutes before I reached out to them... They ended up hanging up on me and I had to call again just to be on hold for another 40 minutes before someone answered just to hang up on me AGAIN! Now I'm out of $78 and never even got to go... All day at Longwood. Did tour and lecture at no additional charge. Both were great. I enjoyed the science research lecture about propagating endangered native plants for conservation. The speaker made the science interesting and understandable. Did conservatories. Plants are beautiful. West Conservatory plants from Mediterranean regions at peak bloom now during Winter. Orchids room is stunning. Love the arrangement of blooming plants in the main conservatory. Did the nighttime light show. Unique and beautiful lights unlike anything I seen before. Love the originality. Only negative is the cafeteria. Food is expensive but I guess that is the cost of not having to spend time dining somewhere else then getting back to Longwood. The service is fast but at the cost of mediocre food. The food is prepared ahead of time so not fresh. Still, I had a great time. I go to Longwood Gardens for the nature and beauty. read more

I have always loved visiting Longwood gardens- no matter the time of year it is always beautiful! I recently got a membership which I am very excited about. I thought the membership pricing was super fair and since I am local I will definitely make great use of it and save some money. Christmas time is one of their busiest seasons and I'm always impressed by how well they handle the crowds. Despite being packed and busy everything from parking to wandering the gardens is very easy. The gardens are stunning and so well kept, the Christmas decor is next level. It's such a nice tradition to go each year. If you are local or visiting Longwood is a must see. I also love that you can get food and drinks there and really make a day/night of it! While I was staying in Wilmington, a friend recommended I visit Longwood Gardens and it did not disappoint! I bought my ticket online and chose my entry time slot. Parking was easy and you can grab info sheets before heading outside. This was one of the most beautiful collections of gardens I've ever been to! The flower gardens were stunning, greenery is pristine, and the fountain gardens were so peaceful. They have paved paths and unpaved leading you all around the property. At the top of the hour they had a fountain show to classical music. Behind the main fountain is the Orangery which was absolutely breathtaking - I highly recommend checking out this area! They also have a beer garden, conservatory, and historic house in the property to visit. All in all my visit was wonderful! I will visit again the next time I'm in Philly or Wilmington. read more

Great experience! Lots of walking, TONS OF PEOPLE for the Xmas lights so be prepared!!! It's almost impossible to walk around the gift shop and ticket area. You should buy your ticket online, when you go to the doors to get to the park area you show them your ticket. With people having herd mentality in large group settings it would be best to pay attention and not wait behind large groups of people. Multiple lines were open to get in but everyone was crowded around one line until staff kept yelling to move over. It's go at your own pace. You can bring in your own food and drink, but they have it available to purchase. It is very expensive to purchase food and drinks there! Like $6-12 dollars for a hot chocolate or a "spiked" hot chocolate. I do think it was a nice experience! I just wish they had specific times or days for ADA only, and if they do I wasn't aware of it. Oh! And parking- what a mess. We were guided by staff to park in a field far away. When there were closer spots AND parking spots in the paved parking lot! It's a one time experience for Christmas, I may be back in the spring! read more

We dined at the Beer Garden while listening to live music. The mushroom pizza was delicious. We even got to see the beautiful water show with lights and music. Absolutely a great time here. We have been coming here for years. Every season brings new beauty and experiences. This year a new building will open expanding these experiences. The fountains have recently been upgraded and the water shows with different types of music ( Jazz, Classical, Rock etc) are something not to miss. And speaking of not missing, if you have kids with you and it's warm enough outside you can watch the water show up close and personal. Depending on the wind, you can set yourself up to get a nice "Mist Shower" as you watch. Inside the Conservatory there's a Children's Garden that is definitely kid friendly, where they can enjoy playing around, in and with various water exhibits. The food "court" and formal restaurant food has recently been improved too, as well as some outdoor dining. If you go, look into getting a membership. Coming from Washington, D.C. where many museums and a botanic garden with free admission, I'm often skeptical if places with steep admission are worth visiting. Despite the $82 charge for two adult and one kid tickets, Longwood Gardens is worth a trip. To make it worth it, plan to stay for hours. The estate is historic and comes with many sections of gardens, a children's garden, a treehouse, conservatories, and many fountains. There are maps throughout the property. Despite its size, it doesn't take too long to do a loop. We especially loved the conservatories and the synchronized music show to the fountains. Bring an umbrella to protect yourself from the sun. Longwood Garden is simply beautiful and there is something for everyone from kids to grownups. We enjoyed our visit here today. I have been here many times and at different seasons. This was my first time seeing all the tulips. Do get tickets in advance as they often sell out. Even though our visit was sold out, it didn't seem crowded to me. Parking is free. There are places to eat if you want to eat there. A self service Cafe is convenient with lots of seating indoors and out. There is an outdoor fountain area that does a show every half hour I think. Check for times and see it. There is a children's garden inside that is adorable. The kids will love it. Lots of walking outdoors and things to see. It is wheelchair accessible. A membership is pretty affordable. I would get one if I lived nearby. Longwood is really popular at Christmas. It is so beautiful with all the flowers and decorations. You'll see different kinds of flowers around it plus the magical hands of the staffs in designing the leaves and shaping it plus taking care of the plants. Staff are very well organized, friendly, courteous and helpful. For bird watchers, you can see different birds around the area with their chirping music which adds to beauty of the place. Longwood Gardens is one of the top, if not the top botanical garden in the United States. It was the dream of Pierre Dupont and what a beautiful, stunning masterpiece he left us. I advise that you buy timed tickets online before visiting. They give you a half hour grace period . It does get very crowded in the afternoons, and of course in the spring and summer months as things are blooming. Parking is free, but it's a massive lot. Wear good walking shoes and if you want to see the entire sprawling property, I would allow 6 to 7 hours. We were there for four hours and we of course, did not manage to see everything. The fountain shows with musical accompaniment are fantastic. And then they also have nighttime lighted fountain shows. The display of flowers and foliage is just exquisite if you're a photographer you will be in heaven. you can tour Pierre Dupont's original home on the property. There is a bonsai garden with trees that were started back in the early to mid 1900s. The water lily area is breathtaking.This really is a must see for anyone from PA & well worth the trip from out of state as well. There is a 1909 fine dining restaurant on the property, but they also have a nice café and now an outdoor beer garden, which is a great addition. we highly recommend their berry salad! read more

Beautiful and expansive gardens. I have visited Longwood Gardens four times now (fall, winter, early spring, and early summer) and have had a great experience each time. The grounds are massive and the collection of plants is impressive and spans across the world. Even if the weather is bad, the greenhouses have such a great collection of plants that you can spend hours in them. Many of the plants are labeled, so you don't even have to use your phone to identify them. If you are nearby and enjoy being outside, then an afternoon at Longwood Gardens is a perfect idea for all ages. read more

One of the best spots to hit to get in the Christmas spirit. Even though it was freezing, there are plenty of indoor stops along the way to warmup such as the DuPont house (which is basically a mini museum exhibit) and of course the conservatory with several festive indoor displays, as well as delicious, reasonably-priced hot cocoa and other warms beverages along the walkways and found in the Beer Garden. Despite it being $42/adult it's easy to spend 2+ hours in her and so worth it IMO. Can't speak to the on-site dining options though as I haven't tried yet! read more

Awesome fall colors on the edge of the meadow area. Many perky squirrels. The gardens are beautiful but getting to them is another matter! Hard to navigate from US 1 northbound to the gardens. There is no sign. If you are driving north on US 1, go under the overpass and take a slight right. Apple Maps recommends a right turn before the overpass that is too soon and it is tricky to find your way back to US 1. Very difficult to navigate from the garden exit to US 1 southbound. I get lost every time even when using Apple Maps. I do not get lost elsewhere. The last fountain performance of the night is the best! The fountains are choreographed to Bollywood songs. Longwood should work with Kennett Square, the state of PA, Apple, and Google to make it much easier to navigate between the Gardens and US 1. I take the wrong turn every time at Longwood, but never at other locations. By contrast, it is easy to navigate from I-95 to the Ladew Topiary Gardens using only signs. read more

Rain Snow sleet or hail, Longwood gardens does not close due to inclement weather, and there's a NO REFUND policy, so we pulled up in the pouring rain. The conservatory is where one of the workers suggested we start. It was beautiful and hot in there!! The flowers were amazing! The workers were helpful and gave us a brief history. After the conservatory, you walk the grounds to see the trees and lights. So pretty at night! I wouldn't suggest going during the day, what would be the pros purpose.
