A Longwood Christmas 2025...was very disappointing. Although the lighted tall trees outdoors were stellar, the snowflakes and lights in the woods were nice, and there were some well-decorated trees, there was not much holiday cheer or festive vibe inside as in the past. It lacked soul and the lush grand artistry Longwood has been known for! There were no Christmas-inspired decorations such as Santa, reindeer, presents, swans, stockings, nutcrackers, or anything that would evoke a sense of wonder and magic. A complex LED fountain-like light show synchronized to music (which must have been complex to do and cost a lot) was nice to watch, while up lights on trees, and color-changing orbs on the ground made some areas seem like a yard party rather than a holiday celebration at Longwood Gardens. The experience made me feel sad, longing for the classic and timeless expression of Christmas I enjoyed at Longwood years ago. read more

We recently attended an organ/Philadelphia Opera concert! With the concert ticket, entrance was free. We needed to get a wheelchair, which was easy. After walking around the buildings to see the chrysanthemum exhibits we had early dinner at 1906! How fabulous that was, I just can't explain properly. We sat by the windows and watched the fountain display with the music piped in. THe food and service was topnotch! We haven't had such a marvelous day and concert in a long time! read more

This place is magical, by far the best gardens I've ever been too, the beauty of this place surpassed any expectations I thought I had. It is HUGE and would definitely recommend nice walking shoes, plenty of water and more than just a few hours to spend the day here. $25 for this place is a STEAL! Bought tickets to see their Winter Wonderland the day before it was set to close and the place was packed! Definitely get tickets in advance for priority entry. I grabbed a map but enjoyed walking the property just by seeing where my eye was led. As the season is still young there weren't many flowers in bloom and most trees were still bare, but the property is gorgeous and well maintained. Staff is everywhere in case you have questions which was nice! I can't wait to see when they start running the fountains and I can see they are planning to extend the gardens out which by the looks of it will be pretty epic. The conservatory is the highlight of your visit here by far ! It is an Oasis! Could've stayed forever but it gets packed which can be a minor irritant. They had rare blue poppies on view so I had to get a photo ! So beautiful! Apparently there is a beer garden which was closed as well for the season but I'm sure in the summer is probably a great place to stop during your stay. Wow, what an amazing place to visit! My friend and I were there for 4 hours and only managed to see about half of the estate. We walked through the gardens but my favorite place was the conservatory. There were so many beautiful plants to see, along with the amazing etched glass on the ballroom ceiling and the organ with over 10,000 pipes. We caught a show where they played classical music to synchronized water fountain movements that was pretty cool. Although it was a beautiful sunny day, we did not feel like it was too crowded, probably due to them only allowing a certain number of people to enter at a time (buy your tickets online in advance). Absolutely fabulous. We had a wonderful day that began in the conservatory. We walked the grounds for about 2:45 minutes. There were many areas closed for maintenance, but we still enjoyed what we saw. Looking forward to visiting in the spring. There were plenty of volunteers around to say hello and talk about the flowers. The grounds people were friendly and exchanged hellos and explained what they were doing example, seeding the grass. Can't express how beautiful this place is. I spent a full 4.5hours walking through. Unfortunately the season wasn't the best for outside plants but the conservatory made up for it. I went back to the conservatory at the end and just basked in the smell of fresh lilies and greenery. It would be helpful for them to list when certain areas are in bloom such as the peony garden or wisteria garden. The meadow was also pretty brown. July/August would be great for these outside areas. But the magnolia and cherry blossom trees were in full bloom. They're also doing construction to expand the conservatory which I'm super excited about!! There are also house exhibits that provide the history of the gardens and Pierre du Pont who built it. The cafe also has a great pot pie and mushroom soup! read more

I've debated posting this review for a long time. I think it's important to share in the hopes of preventing this experience for someone else. My family and I went to Longwood Gardens a couple years ago during Christmas. The grounds and lights are truly beautiful. Unfortunately, everything was overshadowed by the looks, and vibe, we got from everyone, staff included. I'm Hispanic and my husband is black. As we walked through the doors it was made abundantly clear that we did not belong. We tried to make the best of the day but it was beyond uncomfortable and the experience left a lasting impression. What made this so much worse was that we visited with our children. My eldest felt it too and we had to have a difficult conversation after. After I talked with friends and family who had also visited the gardens, I learned that this was not just a bad day but a pattern. Anyone with a darker complexion or more ethnic appearance felt uncomfortable. I want to make it clear that much of the staff was kind. I do not believe that this is their fault. There are still many areas that aren't welcoming to minorities and this is one of them. We never went back and have no plans to visit in the future. read more

So we originally got tickets to go to Longwood Gardens for Mother's Day 2022 but the day of, it was a rainy miserable day so we received a credit for a future date. Since we heard the holidays was one of the best times to go we decided to utilize our tickets during our holiday adventures. It was cold day and knowing a good portion of the adventure was outdoors, we dressed accordingly. There was a group of adults and my toddler dressed in multiple layers. We also brought a stroller for the times my little one became tired of walking/running around. There is a lot of ground to cover so I also suggest wearing comfortable shoes. We had tickets for mid afternoon and stayed until late evening so we were able to see the beautiful grounds in the day and beautiful lighting at night. We took a meal break during the sundown transition with decent not great food and beverages, which was very pricey but it was a part of the total experience. Also during the holiday season, be prepared to wait in long lines for food, as it is very crowded. All in all it was a great day and looking forward to experiencing it again during the spring or summer. read more

It was rainy when we went for the Longwood Christmas event, but it was still very enjoyable. Some of the displays was blocked off for safety so it was unfortunate. The conservatory was amazing with all the Christmas tree displays and I really enjoyed looking at their orchid collection. Will definitely come back. They have several bathrooms that are "elevated port o potty" where they have heat and running water to wash your hands. It's also pretty spacious inside as well. read more

There's a reason why Longwood Gardens has a stellar reputation, especially for its Christmas display. You can't beat how beautiful the Christmas trees are here, each with its own unique theme. I spent a few hours mostly at the Conservatory, and I just need to come back for another visit in the spring. It was busy but not overly crowded on a Saturday before Christmas. There was plenty of parking and enough restrooms. Also shoutout for the mother's room, which was a great relief while traveling with an infant. I also had a delicious hot chocolate and came home with a chocolate bar from the gift shop. Next time I'll try more snacks. read more

We decided to visit in the winter. First time here and I'll be back in late spring. Nothing interesting outside as there's no flowers blooming, the trees are bare and it's cold. The construction from the new building they're building is going to be so beautiful once done. In the conservatory it was beautiful! I could stay in there all day! At the gift shop I bought two plants ! Their plant prices were not expensive. Service in the gift shop and in the cafe was very inviting. Absolutely gorgeous but staff is unbelievably rude. Gift shop closes at 4:50 which is fine but the way the staff spoke to the visitors was horrible. "We are closed you need to leave" and "sorry bout that we are closed". We left the one room because the other chaperone was over heard saying "I'm trying to get these people out of here! They won't leave!" It was 4:30. The price was expensive to hear employees complain about the people there. Sad. If you go, go in the summer and don't expect to be spoken to nicely. read more

Bus trip with our Syracuse Nursery, Ballantyne gardens. This facility is beyond words. We walked the grounds but spent almost all our time in the beautiful conservatory. An enormous set of rooms and spaces filled with their winter display of flowers. Every single employee we encountered was very friendly and very helpful, and thanked us for coming. The gardens and grounds were owned by the Duponts and the "Golden Age" is very much evident in the conservatory. Fountains, water features, chandeliers, piano and so many amazing plants fill the space. I can't wait to come back when the outdoor displays are in full bloom. read more

I LOVE Longwood Gardens in high regard throughout all seasons. The gardens are impeccably maintained, and the staff exhibits a high level of professionalism and courtesy. Ample parking is provided, and the location is conveniently situated near downtown Kennett Square, as well as the Concordville/Glen Mills/Chadds Ford areas. Wonderful trip seeing the Christmas decorations at Longwood gardens! Since we went around the thanksgiving holiday we booked our tickets in advance online. It was good thing too since they sold out for the day. Our tickets were for later in the evening so we were able to park in the normal parking lot. They did have shuttles to go to the overflow parking lot. Once we arrived it was easy to enter the gardens after scanning the tickets. There was no line to get in. They had physical maps you could grab and also a digital map. There were different food and drink vendors open but we did not try anything. Throughout the gardens there were different staff members to help out if needed. There was so much to see and lots of fun lights! Overall a great experience celebrating the holiday season read more

My friend is a member and I've seen her photos from time to time but this was so much more. The place is beautiful and worthy of a stroll. We didn't even see it all and I'm still impressed. Cool to spend a good half day here especially to see the lights at night, I haven't been back here in forever! The water fountain light show was great, they have it on Thursdays through Sundays at night. The Illuminated Fountain Performances start at 9:15 pm and lasted about 30-45 minutes. People put seats out to save a good spot. You can see them if you stand in the back too. I think that actually is a better view and you can see everything. Loved the lollipop lights, those are so cool too (Light: Installations by Bruce Munro). They have a few different locations for these light installations you can check out, it's very easy to get lost in the dark if you don't follow the crowd. Not a lot of lights when you're walking around in the dark so make sure you know where you're headed! There's a hidden waterfall under the fountain if you walk around there. It looks pretty cool with purple lights. Ticket prices are cheaper if you go earlier, click around different times to see if you can get a better deal. Food options are quite limited and the lines are crazy long. Still a good experience overall and highly recommended! read more

We went to the holiday lights event at Longwood. It was after dark and not all the walkways were well lit. When you're lighting trees and flowers, it isn't a stretch to light the stairs as well. They know many children come to the event. It was very dark in some places, and there is no excuse for that. It is VERY unsafe. We saw several people trip and fall during our short time there and then a child in our party tripped on stairs that were not well lit. Even through a winter hat, the child needed to be taken to the emergency room to get stitches on their face instead of enjoying time with family. This child now has a permanent scar to remember this visit to Longwood. The following day, a public safety officer from Longwood called to say their insurance would contact us to take care of any medical bills. They never called. We repeatedly called and left messages for that person but they completely ghosted us. Never again. I don't recommend visiting Longwood Gardens, especially when it's dark, because if something happens on their property due to their negligence, they will pretend to take responsibility and then leave you high and dry. B-E-A-utiful!!! This was my first time going to Longwood Gardens but I had been wanting to check this place out for years! We finally made the trip to get a glimpse of the Christmas decorations before they were taking it down and even though it was during the day and the lights were not on, it was still a gorgeous place! If we did not have other plans, we probably would have stuck around for the lights! Considering it was the morning/afternoon, it was still very crowded and a lot of families with young children were in attendance. The main conservatory was amazing to walk through with the combination of the everyday plants and Christmas plants intertwined. The thoughtfulness that went into curating the main area was astounding! They also had a small room where they displayed creations from local schools/student was very cute too! They have other buildings there you can walk through but it is not as large and given the cold weather, the fountains were not on except 1 past the beer garden that we got to see. We did not check out the beer garden or the cafe during our trip, but it was pretty crowded when walking by. They were also doing some construction so it appears that they are probably doing some sort of extension, so I would be excited to go back when they're complete. The gift shop is also available by the entrance. The items there are a bit pricey, if you are a member, you get 10% off your purchase. I don't know the cost of the membership since we did a day trip. While the items are pricey, the plants I felt like were very reasonably priced. I did purchase 3 plants on my trip and no regrets whatsoever! read more

Purchased tickets online then had to change our date. I called and was told this would be a 8.00 fee and the next day was available. We had a 12:30 afternoon time slot and it was crowded but not packed. We walked the grounds and the conservatory and it was very pretty but I'm sure it would have been nicer at night to see the trees lit. We decided to have lunch here and went to the cafe. We all had the turkey platter and the turkey, stuffing and potatoes were excellent but the cranberry had an odd seasoning in it that I didn't care for and the prices were a bit high at 24.00 each. Finding a place to sit was pure chaos. It would have been nice if they had staff help with seating. We all kept walking in and out of rooms to find an open table and finally decided to stand and eat at a high top. Lastly we went to the gift shop, where they had a wonderful selection of decorations and gifts. Overall this was a very nice day and I am looking forward to returning in the summer months. read more

Went here with a friend who lives in the area. What a well maintained property. Note * Tickets can be bought during a certain time slot and you must hy tickets in advance especially on the weekends as it gets sold out. We arrived on time and were promptly let into the gardens. We wondered around looking at all the beautiful trees, flowers and tree houses.You can easily spend half a day wondering around here. There were also many beautiful fountains as well as the famous fountain show. We also were lucky enough to see the light exhibit outside it was so beautiful with all the different colors lighting up the lawn. Cab was great for $10, the pretzel since it was sitting there was cold and came with no dipping sauces so it was uneventful to eat. I heard so much about the year round Longwood Gardens, and for good reason. It's a large walk through indoor and outdoor Conservatory with rented skooters for those with respective handicaps. They also have their own EMS crew available as well. And the workers could not be more polite or helpful especially as we unfortunately had a late time reserved. Depending on inclement weather, especially with all of the rain lately, some of the grounds can get muddy but are still impeccably maintained. Still, not the best places to wear your fanciest footwear. There's several food stands on site with a restaurant though neither are available in the evening hours. The holiday lights are fun and interactive for the family. I attended with my husband, who does have to utilize a skooter and is a bit claustrophobic, admitted he enjoyed all of it. That said, we would definitely make a return trip in the Spring! read more
