I visited Lopez Auto Repair a few years ago & I had the service was decent. I just moved back in the area & tried calling them severals times today to get a quote. However, each call I made was met with someone picking up the phone & then immediately hanging it up without saying a word. If they're busy or short-staffed, I can understand them stating such & asking for me to call back ... but hanging up without saying a word is completely unacceptable. I was recommended to this spot by my realtors and I am so grateful to them. I had gone to Jiffy Lube for an oil change when they told me my brake line was leaking. Nervously, I drove to Lopez and Juan, the owner, looked at my car immediately after telling me a diagnostic fee would be $77.50. So while I'm waiting he actually comes back into the office, asks me to follow him, and he shows me the issue (I'm standing under my car -- I have never had a mechanic physically show me what's going on). After everything, he tells me "I can't charge you for using my eyes," and tells me he's going to roll the diagnostic fee into the cost of the repair. What's that you say? An honest mechanic? Sold. Please come here. It's no fancy office to look at it, and they might seem a little disorganized on the front, but this man and his employees are good people. I was referred to Lopez Auto Repair by a couple of friends and also my former auto repair garage that declined to work on my 22 year-old RAV4 saying it was too old. It turns out they did me a real favor. Although I was quite satisfied with my previous garage I am now a very happy customer of Lopez Auto. They were gracious on the phone and in person, they took my car in on short notice and got it back to me the same day. It was the dreaded P0440 trouble code from the "check engine" warning, and it wasn't just a loose gas cap. They diagnosed and repaired the problem in short order and the cost was quite reasonable, less than expected. But more than anything they made me feel comfortable and confident that they were going to help me and I couldn't ask for a more courteous and professional interaction than the one I got here today and I am grateful to Cisco and the staff at Lopez Automative for all they did for me. Not sure what recently happened at this Lopez location, but my wife wanted to get pricing for some services on a Friday, and the guy says 'Sure, why don't you come by and drop it off?' And so, she did. She wanted a price for a radiator flush, brake flush and new brake pads. Strangely enough, when she dropped it off, she asked about her trusted advisor Juan - and the Service Manager said 'We had to fire him - and several others.' Hmmmm......strange I thought to myself. Well, I called at 4:45 to see what progress had been made, and the Service Manager acted clueless, sounding like he lost her paperwork. In fact, they had not even looked at the car which was dropped off at 10AM. I told my wife we needed to go pick it up, or they would be keeping it ALL WEEKEND. When we arrived, the Service Manager was very apologetic when he finally found her paperwork. I told him it was not a good look when you ask someone to drop off their car, they don't look at the car at all, they don't have any cost estimates we requested, and they don't communicate and then plan to keep the car all weekend. Not sure why what these guys are thinking, but I won't be using Lopez ever again. read more

This place is honest and reliable. My car was making a noise I didn't like, something between a tick and a clunk. I took it to another joint where I had previously had work done and they gave me a quote to replace my lower control arm that seemed a bit high. I called Lopez auto repair for a price check and they told me it should be lower, but I'd need to bring it in for them to be certain that was the issue and there would be a diagnostic fee to check it out. I wasn't wild about the fee, but Juan said that if I ended up getting the repair, they'd apply the fee to the repair cost. That seemed fair, so I brought it in, they confirmed that a bushing was worn out, and replaced the part. I picked up my car, drove it home... and still heard the noise. I gave them a call, and he said to bring it back in. Then he had me drive it with his mechanic to demonstrate the noise. After that, they were able to tighten things up. Plus, the place I had previously gone for work had failed to tighten a nut on my axle and that was causing slippage and the noise. And after all that, they didn't charge me anything for the additional work they did. So, lesson learned for me. I won't be taking my car back to the other spot. And I'm just going to describe the problem I'm having, not what someone else suggested it might be. For what it's worth, the lower control arm did need replacing, but I could have probably avoided some back and forth if I'd just let Lopez diagnose the issue to begin with. read more

I took my 2010 MazdaSpeed3 there cause of the dreaded check engine light. The car also smelled like burnt oil all the time. The year before I took it to the Mazda dealer to get it inspected and while it cost me over $1000 to fix the check engine light at the time, they never fixed the problem. Lopez diagnosed it, cleaned up all the oil the turbo was spitting out and I got out of there with the problem fixed. No catalytic converter needed. Now, three months later it still runs great, light never came back on, and I will never go anywhere else but Lopez Automotive. Super mechanics. Took them a couple of days to zero in on the problem, but heck, it works great now. read more

I took my vehicle to Lopez Auto Repair my air conditioner was blowing hot air, was hoping I wasn't going to get stuck with a large bill they diagnosed the problem and told me what it was for repairs and put you some refrigerant in the vehicle and replaced a couple of valves. I know my car, I had a bad bearing in my front, went there Friday morning, said they'd charge me $65 to tell me the problem, I knew the problem but fine, needed the car fixed to get to work. Bearing is at least a two hour job, but they said they'd keep my car for the weekend because they're closed on weekends. Fine I guess, if you don't know shit about cars and don't care about being overcharged, goto these guys. Grabbed my car back after two hours of them not even telling me the problem, even though he said he'll look at it on an hour. Called off of work and fixed it myself. Fuck these guys read more

Amazingly Bad and Disappointing Service: To start, I would never be posting this review for this business because I value them and know that they're good folks. To be kind about the terrible service I've received, they did give me my oil change for free. Unfortunately after having an issue and waiting for the manager to speak with me for some time, he wasn't able to make time for me, so hopefully he can answer my questions here in a very public format and let everyone know how they handle problems at their business. When trying to decide on a business for car repair Lopez automotive was a no-brainer. I have used the original location on Fort view and the newer location on South first (used to joke about going to the dad or going to the son). I have always found them trustworthy, reputable and fast. Not this time. Not by a longshot. I brought my vehicle into Lopez automotive on Monday. I told them that the bypass valve, the wheel bearing and the belt tensioners were all having issues. They called me Tuesday morning to let me know that my wheel bearing was bad and that the cost of it and replacing my oil was around $800. I authorized the work. They were unsure about the bypass valve because the engine was not throwing a code. I had to point out the alert on the dashboard to them to show them the indicator that the part had failed. I don't hear from them again until I call Friday morning to pick up my vehicle. The only thing that has been done was the oil was changed. You told me my part was on back order until next week, yet it is available right now same-day delivery on Worldpac and at the Toyota dealership closest to you. So these were my questions: Why was the authorized work not done on the vehicle and the wheel bearing replaced? Why was I not informed that the part was on back order? Why would you not notify me that you could not complete the work within five days, knowing that I had taken a vacation specifically at this time to have this work done because I told you this? Why was the engine noise not diagnosed? What about the belt tensioners? Did you do elementary testing and remove the serpentine belt to see if they are the problem? Were any other diagnostics done on my vehicle? Why wasn't I kept informed about all of these things? Feel free to answer here since you couldn't take the time with me while I was in your business. read more

I called and spoke with Juan on Tuesday and explained the issues with my car and he got me right in the next day to look at my vehicle. I did have to leave my car while they test drove it but Juan made sure I got a ride to and from my house so that I would not have to call a Lyft. As soon as I met Juan he told me I am not a customer but a friend. And that's exactly how he conducts business. I am very pleased with the level of service and expertise at Lopez Auto Repair. I was driving on Hwy 71 when my car bucked or kicked. Took to Lopez and they looked it over, drove it around, checked out spark plugs, etc and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Said if it happened again to bring it back but that all seemed okay. They spent about 2 hours checking this and that. I felt comfortable that they did a thorough job and were honest and communicated throughout the process. Best part is that since they didn't find anything, he didn't charge anything. I live in the Dallas area, but occasionally come to Austin to visit family. On one of those visits I needed a new alternator and I brought my car in to Juan. The service, pricing, parts and explanation were all far superior to what I experienced back home. The experience repeated itself this week: after my Dallas mechanic suggested I needed a transmission replacement ($3400), Juan diagnosed the true problem as a bad motor mount for $590. We've decided to bring all the family's cars to Lopez Auto Repair for any future work unless they can't make the journey. I'm nearly 60, and I can't remember a mechanic this excellent and trustworthy. I wish I could give him 11 stars. read more
