I truly wanted this to be a positive experience, but unfortunately it was not. I brought my 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan (about 79,000 miles) to Austin's Automotive Specialists in November 2025 for an oil leak. After their inspection, I approved additional repairs and paid $2,006.64, picking up the car on Nov. 17. Within days, the leak was worse. Instead of one leak, I now had two, along with a strong burning-oil smell while driving. I returned on Nov. 21 and was told it was just leftover oil and that everything had been cleaned. That same evening, I discovered the car was leaking from three different places. I brought the car back again on Dec. 2. After no communication all day, I called and was told they found another leaking gasket and wanted an additional $400. I was also told that "oil leaks are tricky on Volkswagens," but a properly diagnosed repair should not turn one leak into multiple new leaks in a matter of days. At this point, I declined further work. I paid over $2,000 and ended up with a car in worse condition than when I brought it in. I requested a refund in writing and never received a response. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this shop. read more

This is a very well organized business so if you're looking to trusting someone with your vehicle, this is the place to be. Sometimes they give you the same day appointments and sometimes they don't, kind of depends on how busy they are. But other than that they treat you with respect and honesty, when they tell you something wrong with your car they really mean it! Even if you research it like I did in the very beginning not knowing these guys but now that I've been with him for a few years I can truly tell you that I trust them one 100 percent. I went in for an oil change about 10:00 am without an appointment. They were able to complete the oil change in about 90 minutes. The technician took the time to perform a maintenance check without my requesting it. Suggestions were made for continued maintenance with no hard sell tactics. I appreciated that!! read more

Prepare to be lied to and overcharged. They'll also act like they've already done stuff without your consent. They tried to charge me $1000 for a tire, and hundreds of dollars in labor to remove the wheel locks.... the wheel lock was right in my glove box where I told them it was. The lady on the phone was so rude and indignant that I asked for a breakdown of prices she refused to do anything to it at all and I picked it up, took it the dealership who did everything that was necessary for a fraction of the price. I think their Google reviews are paid for, if you read the one star reviews they all have the exact same story as me. They hope you're stupid- that's their business model. read more

When both high beams on my headlights stopped working on my 2008 Toyota Highlander, I took it in for repair. The hood guys at the Wm Cannon branch of Austin Automotive Specialists diagnosed it as the 3-way switch that controls the headlights and running lights. They found a nondealer part at a hefty discount and ordered it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a different problem, the fuse assembly instead. They returned the switch at no cost to me, and ordered and installed the fuse board. All working now! Their dedication to finding the solution to a tricky problem and concern for my bank balance are admirable! I was already an established customer, but now I am dedicated! read more

I came to get my alternator replaced. It took about 6 hours from drop off for them to get back with me to confirm the alternator went bad. I was then quoted $1300 for a top-of-the-line Denso part with $175/hr labor. I was quoted 2 hours of labor on this job. They sent me a full report on a ton of minor issues my car had, which is nice to have, but it seems like the hours I waited to hear "yes, the alternator is bad" was them trying to figure out how to charge me even more money on things I wasn't concerned with. I'm not worried about my windows rolling down when the car won't even start up. I need my car to commute back and forth to work an hour away. After 2 days I was able to pick my car up. It frustrates me to think about the money I would've lost by missing work had I not had specific connections--and the money they would've expected for all the other non-essential repairs on top of that. The mechanics did a good job and are very professional, but I'm not a wealthy person and they were aware I needed to finance the alternator already. I'm not sure if it's this specific location or the company itself overall trying to bombard me with other odd jobs on top of the main issue, but it came off pretty grimy. The most frustrating was the Denso quote. Yes, original manufacturer is going to be the best for several reasons. But for my super common, super inexpensive and 10+ year old vehicle which already has visible damage, I'm not expecting massive resell value that would require OEM parts. I opted for Napa as I'm familiar with that brand and avoided Duralast like the plague. I was able to get my cost down to $915 but still felt I was fleeced with the scare tactics with them telling me my car could break down again in a week or two because of using a Napa part and not the ultra premium Denso part. There's a reason I'm in a budget vehicle; requiring specialty parts isn't it. read more

all the hype is true. Andy and his and his team are not only courteous, but work hard to do the opposite of most mechanics- save you money. They were backed up. They were so busy and my car had a litany of issues that I was getting quoted twice as much for other places. They knocked it out the same and shocked me a the lower estimate than they had initially given. I took my 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe in for a brake change. Of course, they performed their "courtesy inspection" and found several other issues which I did not notice at all in my car. A few hundred dollar break and rotors replacement ended up costing over $2630. I contacted them a few weeks later to say that I feel and hear a grinding sound on what I assume are the rotors. They made me wait three days to bring it in, kept the car all day, did not call me to let me know the status, I had to call them several times throughout the day, only to be told they did not hear/feel any issue when they test drove it. I picked the car up same night and am still experiencing this grinding/scraping. Brandon, the front desk guy who is supposed to be friendly and helpful appeared to care less from the original request for someone to look at it to the day they had the car and I had to call them several times to get the status. I won't be taking the car here again. Very unfortunate. I wanted them to be good. read more

I had two garages indicate my 2019 Toyota 4-Runner strut was leaking and needed to be replaced. Based on my type of strut this was going to be a very expensive fix. I took it to Andy who thoroughly cleaned the strut and had me keep an eye on it. After two weeks he determined my strut was fine. He wants me to periodically keeping an eye on it but so far so good. Our 2012 Kia Sorento's AC wasn't functioning. Had Austin's Automotive Specialists @ William Cannon repair it. They replaced the AC compressor & Condenser (from a kit) and put in a new discharge line. $165/hr [as of August 2024] Labor * 6 hours - parts were marked up 2-3x [the hose 8x!] what you could find online. But to be fair the footer of their invoice reads "Most" repairs are covered by our GreatWater 360 Auto Care 3-Year/36,000 Mile Warranty. This is still my trusted go-to mechanic. I dropped off my car recently when the alarm started to randomly go off and a check engine light with several control module codes popped up. They held my car for several days to diagnose but ultimately couldn't pinpoint the issue. I know that this wasn't a result of them not trying and afterwards, they offered a couple of options for next steps. Andy and Justin were very informative and straight forward with me about what their tech did and didn't find. One small area of improvement that stood out this time is with the communication. I expected to hear an update on a certain day and didn't get one until I called in. A part of me wishes they would have sent me a quick message saying that they hadn't found anything yet, but I view this as a very minor point since I brought my car in when they were pretty booked up and they didn't have any real updates to give me, so I get it. I'm still very impressed with their service and professionalism and will continue to go here when my car needs the attention. read more

I'll be honest I was looking forward to going to this shop based off the good reviews. I went in because my brakes were making some noise. I wasn't sure if it was the shocks or the back brakes because I just had the front brakes done. Then I try and tell the guy my door pin is off so you have to open the door by reaching out the window. Super sucks for me so I said hey if that's something you can fix give me a quote. The guy did not seem interested in helping me out. And what he said next is why I'm leaving this review, he said "I have a feeling I'm gonna give you a quote that is more then the truck is worth" Ok how truly insulting!!!! First off I just bought this old vintage 1994 F150 flare side with 170,000 miles a few months ago. The truck runs amazing. It needs basic care and some of the odd and ends have worn out. No Brake job should ever be more then $2000 which is what I just paid for this truck. 2nd I got a quote for the door pin a month ago and it was $180. 3rd I went down the street to another shop that looks at brakes for free. (This place charges $65) It was my back brakes. And I'm positive I'm gonna pay half what these guys would have charged me. So yeah if you're rich and your car is brand new you'll love this shop. read more

But their pricing goes with great quality as well as their ability to back up their work. If i have had to go back for repeated investigation on the same issue, they do not charge unnecessarily or treat me with disrespect. Even sometimes wave fees and they take ownership, though they may not have to. They are trustworthy and honest. I can not say that about a lot of shops I have visited in my lifetime. This is the second time these great folks have saved the day for me. The first time was a failed power steering pump, and this time it was my alternator and a belt and pulley. The tow truck dropped my aging car off at 11pm last night, and even though Austin's Auto Specialists were busy today they got my car looked at, got the parts, and had me back in the drivers seat by 3:30pm. These guys are the best. I was driving back from San Antonio to Dallas when and heard a clicking noise and felt like the steering power was a little off. I stopped in north Austin to see if I could get someone to look at it. Unfortunately, they were too busy and offered to send me to another location. Since Round Rock was on my way back to Dallas that is where I stopped. Emery and his crew took the time to check everything out and even went so far as to check the carfax to see if anything else was happening. The good news is that whatever it was that was making the clicking noise stopped (must have been something stuck under the car) and it drove beautifully all the way home. However, when the carfax was checked it showed that there was a recall that I needed to take care of! If you ever open a shop in the north Dallas area PLEASE let me know. You've found your forever automotive service center. I came in because I damaged the skid plate on my Kia Niro 2017, and it was dragging whenever I drove. I didn't have an appointment, so I tried to show up as soon as they opened to just see if they could fit me in. The guys were really understanding and said that they had a really busy morning, but if I came back at 1pm that could get me right in. I showed up at 1pm for my appointment and they took my car right back. They found an agreeable solution to the situation and then made sure I didn't leave without checking my other service lights. I hadn't noticed how long it had been since my last service, so the folks there made time for that too. I felt extremely grateful for their care and attention. I had planned for a long ordeal but I was out in an hour. I don't know why I ever went to the Kia service center. I'm never going anywhere else again. read more

Wow, I have never had mechanic service like this! Andy at Austin Automotive Specialists was wonderful. I called on a Friday to get a quote for a very noisy, dragging splashguard. I spoke with Andy who told me to come in the next day (!!) and he would fix it for me. He said it is an easy fix and would be free of charge. (I know we all need to pay our bills, but another place I called quoted me at $60. Just sayin.) I was a bit skeptical his offer would stand once I took my car in (you know how the mechanic stories go...) but he sounded so nice and genuine on the phone. So the next day I came at the time he told me to and in no longer than 10 minutes he fixed it for me AND replaced a beat brake light I wasn't aware of, all for free!!! He was so kind about it.
