The problem with Dr. Beemer is that it's still coasting on the reputation built by the previous owners. They earned trust, and people (myself included) remember that. Unfortunately, the current experience doesn't feel like the same level of honesty, knowledge, or customer care. It feels like the business is running on yesterday's good reviews while trying to figure out how to recreate the magic. The vibe has shifted from "we know BMWs and we'll take care of you" to "let's see what happens and hope nobody asks too many questions." When you're dealing with a car trust is everything. Disappointed in Misdiagnosis and Lack of Accountability I brought my 330i to Beemer Automotive of South Austin for help diagnosing a front suspension noise. They charged $225 for a diagnostic and told me I needed to replace both front strut assemblies and mounts -- quoting over $1,400 for the repair. However, after some basic investigation at home -- bouncing the front end, removing the tower rubber cap, and observing the strut -- I discovered the actual issue: the passenger side strut nut was loose by a couple of threads. Tightening it completely resolved the noise. When I returned to the shop and explained what I had found, they stood by their costly recommendation and refused to offer even a partial refund. I expected expert diagnosis, but instead received an overpriced upsell based on a missed basic mechanical check. This experience has left me with serious doubts about their integrity and diagnostic thoroughness. Thank heaven I took my mini cooper here. I basically had another shop tell me I needed a radiator pipe replaced when I took it in for a routine oil change. I was quoted $800+ for the service but when I brought it to Dr Beemer, they simply adjusted the pipe in the correct position and explained that it was totally not necessary to replace. My daughter's 2012 Jetta was driving uneven, I took it to a transmission shop thinking it was having trouble shifting. Transmission checked out fine. The shop thought it was idling low but since they are transmission specialists and not familiar with VW suggested I take it to Dr Beemer. I explained to Jesse at Dr Beemer what the car was doing, jerking and lunging felt more at lower speeds and that the other shop felt it as idling low. Jesse asked if the check engine light was on and it was not. When I checked the car in at Dr Beemer I provided the same information and indicated on the written questionnaire the check engine light was NOT on. Dr Beemer charged a $180 diagnostic and came up with 22 things wrong with the car. I advised Jesse we were not keeping the car long term and I was only interested in addressing the problem I brought it in for which was the uneven driving. Jesse advised me the uneven driving was due carbon build up in the throttle housing and it needed a carbon cleaning. I asked repeatedly if he was confident this was the issue. He told me the car had 2 codes and when those come up separately it could be a number of different things but when those 2 codes come up together this is almost always the issue and 99.9% of the time fixes the problem. $450 later I pick up the car and make an appointment to return for an oil change a couple days later. The car continues to jerk and lunge on the drive home. I return to Dr Beemer for the oil change and start by advising Jesse that the problem has not been fixed and the car is still idles exactly where it was prior to the work being done. Jesse asked where it idled and when I told him he said that is factory idle for that car. So my question, if that is factory idle and that is where it was idling when I brought it in how did the diagnostic indicate that the idle, therefore throttle body, was the problem? Jesse said again it was because of the codes and I needed to drive the car to see if the check engine light came BACK ON so he could read the codes again. I told him the check engine light was never on before. I even went so far as to clarify he was referring to the orange light of an engine shape and he confirmed. I told him again it was not on when I brought the car in nor had it previously been on. At this point he seemed to lose his patience and continued to insist I had to drive the car 80 miles for the light to come back on so he could read the codes. Then he said he had a call out and was short staffed so couldn't do the oil change I had scheduled that day and walked away. I left and haven't returned. Here's the problems I have with this...the check engine light was never on so there is there were no codes. That was total bullshit. And the codes supposedly indicated the throttle body was causing the low idle but the car never actually had a low idle. Which the mechanic would have known if he had started the car which I believe he would have needed to do to read any codes! So work was done with no indication it was needed to fix a problem that didn't exist. Btw, I drove the car more than 80 miles over the next few days, it continued to jerk around and the check engine light never came on. I took the car to another shop for the oil change Dr Beemer didn't do. They ran the same $180 diagnostic but at $0. Not as a favor, they offer it for free. Diagnosed and fixed the uneven driving. The mechanic also confirmed there were no stored codes and it did not appear any work had been done to the throttle body. Dr Beemer lied and cheated. read more

Changed ownership earlier this year. Brian is gone. Be careful relying on older reviews as there is definitely a new Sheriff in town over there. After months of work on my 96 328 and thousands of dollars the car was running so bad on the way home I took it back. They refused to do any additional work on the car. I took it to another shop in town and they corrected all the problems and the car is running great now. Very appreciative of the decency and straightshooting of these folks. My 2007 335 was on its last legs and had a series of things all go wrong at once. I brought it here and they were honest with me -- the cost of repairs probably were more than the car was worth, I'd be wise to have them do repairs in stages to see the extent of the damage and avoid unnecessary work. Based on their honest and straightforward advice, I decided to donate my car and move on. They charged me a very modest diagnostic fee and made no effort to coerce me to dump good money after bad by trying to repair a car that wasn't worth fixing. I thought these folks were honest, decent, and really easy to work with. Very honest, professional and much less expensive than the MINI dealership. I was having problems with my door exterior handle opening/unlocking and expected that the handle would need to be replaced. After testing it, they recommended the much less expensive option of first replacing the remote battery and if that didn't work, holding the remote closer to the car when I tried to unlock it. Originally took my 528i to Dr. Beemer in for a fluid leak and asked them to do a full check out on the car; Was told it was a bad filter housing leak and small leak in oil pan gasket; Had them change filter housing. A few months later the car started leaking fluid again and took it back and they said it was oil pan gasket and had them fix that. A couple weeks later it was still leaking fluid and this time they said it was a coolant line and then had them fix that. A couple weeks after that there was still a leak and this time I took it to BMW dealer. They did a full inspection with video and showed were it has a transmission fluid leak and steering fluid housing issue. They asked me if I had any transmission work done due to where it was leaking, but I had not. Called up Dr. Beemer and spoke to Alex to let him know that the mechanic there should have caught these items and Alex became confrontational about it. Needless to say, I won't be bringing my vehicle back there again. read more

Brought in my 2015 BMW 435i Gran Coupe in because of a small oil leak and the engine heating up a little too quickly. My oil filter housing gasket was the culprit, but it was leaking all over my drive belt/ tensioner as well. Dane ended up checking out the whole car due to it just passing 100k miles and found a few more things wrong with my car, such as blown struts, brake pads with about 5mm left, and some other minor things. After speaking with Dane about everything, I originally was only going to get a few things fixed due to the cost of everything but Dane was extremely helpful pointing out the things that absolutely needed to be fixed and things I could possibly hold off on. Just honest recommendations and not trying to oversell me on anything, ended up getting everything fixed because of their professionalism and ability to work with me. I will 100% be coming back to Dr. Beemer in the future if my car is ever acting up again, but hopefully not anytime soon! Totally dissatisfied. Brought car into to check for oil leak. They found $6k of "necessary repairs". They were unwilling to prioritize the repairs and insisted they were all necessary. Unfortunately, I allowed them to repair an oil pan leak for $1.2k. A totally excessive price and I'm not convinced of the need for this repair. The good news. I didn't allow them to do any other repairs. The repairs that they were suggesting would NOT have fix the problem and they were only fixing the symptom. Dr. Beemer is such an awesome place! My wife dropped a very delicate necklace under the front passenger seat, and we looked and looked for it but could find it. In desperation, I called Dr. Beemer and told them my strange problem. Their amazingly kind staff ask me to bring it by. Two different people took the time to search under the seat...at one point we thought we'd have to take out the seat to find it. But, their persistence (out in the heat of the day) paid off and they were able to retrieve the necklace! The day was saved. They told me my 330i didn't have an oil dipstick. It does. Maybe they told me this so I would take it back to them every time I suspected the oil was low. Or they didn't know that it does, in fact, have one. Either way, I'm not happy. It should be noted that I first took it to them because it wouldn't pass inspection. 3+ visits later and several hundred dollars spent and it's still not able to pass inspection. M Update: The owner called to try and make this right. That's worth a lot in my book. I have a book that tells me how much things are worth. read more

The owner, Brian, is a good dude who knows his BMWs. He called me a few times to keep me updated on what was needed, and how long it would take. The lady managing the front desk is very nice, and my dog liked her, so you know she's a good one. I took my car in for its 65000 mike service, and the guys found a leaking oil gasket while they checked everything out. 4.5 hours of labor was a killer, but it had to get done eventually, so it was nice they caught it. Also got some electrical work resolved for one of my tail lights and they quickly got the part and so far so good. Main downside was it took a week to get scheduled for an appointment. A little better response via Yelp messaging would also be welcome. Regardless, this will be my go-to spot for taking care of my baby. read more

Dr. Beemer can surely fix your BMW issue! However, you should be aware of how they do it. They will fix every single other thing that it can be, in order to successfully meet your need. This means that your bill will be at least 3-4 times higher then it really should be because you are fixing an issue and replacing so many other parts connected to that issue at hand. I took my 2001 BMW with a check engine light and said fix it. Because it was for my wife with a handicap child, and could not afford for this car to leave her on the side of road, so I agreed to their repairs as long as the car would be almost new (as they said) when I drove off. They said once you get all this fixed, your car will be almost new and you will not have any issues with it for while. They even said, we did so much to it, they would buy it from me. $2600 later it was fixed. No no, no engine was rebuilt or anything like that. Just a bunch of small things they said my car needed to pass inspection. Guess what? Two weeks later the check engine light came back on. I figured with $2600 I would not see that check Engine for a long time. But oh no! There it was again. Did they buy my car, of course not. No, I didn't expect that, but I did expect the car to be in great shape. Their new estimate was another $700 plus. I decided to cut my losses and just sold the car yesterday. If you can afford Dr. Beemer, then you are set however, if you are more financially continuous, think twice. I honestly trusted them. The owner, is super nice and even sat me in his office to discuss my car. I liked him. It unfortunate that his bottom line is the bottom dollar! I'm happy to respond to anyone that has any questions I can help with. As a business owner myself, customer satisfaction to me above all else.
