Lopez is great! They've trimmed multiple large trees for me, and in particular did a beautiful job cleaning up my Chinese elm. I've also had them remove dead trees and grind a few stumps. Every time it's been a reasonable price, great communication, and a really fast turnaround time. They also do a great job cleaning up afterwards. Regarding mulch -- because I see someone recently left a negative review -- I also recently got a load of mulch from them. Arturo was super clear with me up-front about how large the loads are and even sent me pictures of the trucks. He also explained that it is mulch, not straight wood chips, but it still works as walkable ground cover (or to mulch your garden!) Just be aware that it'll be a mix of whatever they trimmed or cut down last. I lucked out and had a beautiful mix of eucalyptus and pine. It smells and looks amazing! read more

Wife and I finally decided to get decomposed granite in our backyard so we called a few places and compared prices. Lopez Tree service asked for photos and measurements and was quick to come back with a reasonable price, so we asked them when we could start. Over a week goes by without a response so we contact them again and they ask for the same photos and measurements. Uhhhh... this should have been a red flag, but we March on. Wife resends the same info and again, no response. Another week goes by and I decide to message them directly. I politely ask them when we can expect to start the project and they finally tell me that it'll be on the week of the 23rd, or 3 additional weeks later. Great! So we wait. Three weeks go by and no response. So at the end of the 3rd week (5 weeks since the quote), I message him. No response. I then leave a voicemail, to which he starts messaging me about having delays, short staffed, coming across "many circumstances beyond their control,"etc etc etc. But here's the kicker he says "Honestly I don't have a contract with you I provided a cost over a text message I try and review my paperwork frequently to make sure I can keep contact with my customers I should have wrote a proposal and emailed and had you sign for approval so I can have it on my calendar and can follow up more frequent" Are you serious? You told us you were going to start on the week of the 23rd and the fact that you didn't write a contract for us, you didn't put us on your calendar and you failed to keep us posted is our fault??? Wow! So here's my takeaway from our experience with Lopez Tree Service, either bother them to write a contact for you at the start or go with another company that's more reliable and professional. You'll save the hassle of dealing with people that take no responsibility and you'll save yourself 5 weeks of waiting. read more

If you value your relationship with your neighbors, stay away from them. They were trimming trees at our neighbor's that reached over to our yard. They did not announce themselves or take any precautions. We only noticed when large limbs came crashing down on our freshly planted flower beds. I talked to the guy about it and he said that this just happend when you trim trees because they don't work with helicopters. (apparently never heard to things like ropes and tarps) not even an apology When I asked for his name and license number he just ran away. These guys are GREAT! Took special care to protect the plants in the yard before starting to trim our HUGE Italian Stone Pine. I was concerned about dripping sap and they placed tarps in our neighbors driveway. I've worked with Arturo for 3 seasons. The first two times, I was impressed with him and his crew. Quotes and jobs were easy to schedule, they did a great job on the tree trimmings. I've seen companies clean up palm trees, just letting the fonds fall on the ground. His team rappelled the fronds securely to the ground. They cleaned the place nicely upon leaving, were nice. Arturo showed up both times, I think, before leaving. Arturo is very nice and seems knowledgeable. This time was very different. I've put some thought into posting this review because it may have been an unfortunate occurence or we got the B team but I was encouraged to do so by friends as people should be aware of pros and cons before making the call. First of all, the process of getting Arturo to visit for a quote was long and frustrating. My husband and I both work and can't take time off at the last minute. We finally scheduled a visit and he didn't show up - glad I didn't take on my vacation time for that. When I contacted him the next day, he had lost my text and info. I tried to plan ahead, even asking to schedule something 2 weeks ahead of time if that could help everyone but he said to schedule that after the Thanksgiving week. Then he would call me, some day, asking if I was home so they could come. No, I was working. When we met, we talked about removing a palm tree. I asked if there would be damages to the wall of the house which is close, we had just finished repainting the house (it should have been done the other way around but again, it took a long time to schedule this work and we couldn't postpone the paint job). His answer was no, no damage. In the meantime, we decide to remove an old stump in the front yard as well, also close to the house. Several weeks later, we finally scheduled the work. It was trash day. The team arrived and put the bins in the parkway crushing small plants so they could park. I was not happy but didn't say a word. They looked at me dragging the bins out of the parkway, up to the driveway. We've had several workers at the house, painters and landscapers, the guys would drive the bins up the driveway without my asking, even when they didn't need the room to park. If you're not going to be that courteous, at least, ask the client to take care of the bins. Then one of the crew members started refilling the gasoline into the stump grinder tank, spilling all over the wall and driveway. Thankfully, the brick chimney took most of it. No wiping down, no cleaning, no sorry; I was right by him. Three hours later, they were done. The crew member who was giving directions to the team, and spoke the most English (although I try to speak Spanish too), asked me to quickly check the places where the palm tree was and then the stump in the front, adding to not worry, that they would blow the front porch since it was quite dusty. Plants were damaged, mind you, not where the guy told me it would happen, by the palm tree, they either lost limbs or were covered in new mulch. Sprinkler heads were buried under mulch too. I didn't say a thing, they had to maneuver their big machine in a tight area, with several plants (not your usual lawn), it was to be expected. Nevertheless, they could have said that they were sorry but there was no other way. They just couldn't care less. Then, part of the crew left with the small pick up truck, two guys waited here for about 30 minutes. They sat looking at their phones. I get it, it's a very tough job, rest is good, as long as there's nothing else to do while you're on the job. When all of them left, I got the electric leaf blower, a brush and dusted the walls and windows by the stump, as well as the porch which were covered in a thick layer of fine dust. Every single nook and cranny was. Now, call me picky, but the two guys on their phones could have reached out and offer to clean a bit better while they were waiting. Also, I picked up stuff left on the patio from their lunch. Painters, tile installer, hardwood floor people, plumber, and landscapers never left the job without a somewhat good cleaning, even if they were here for weeks. A few days later, we realized we weren't done. Part of the wall by the palm tree and the driveway were covered in oily spots. I sent pictures to Arturo and told him about a few other things mentioned above. To his defense, he offered right away to clean up and was very apologetic, but we couldn't wait longer to clean the wall (we still have visible oily spots) so I declined his offer. And finally, we realized the crew had damaged a beam of the carport. Okay, so it's one time out of three. I don't know if it's an unfortunate event (or rather, series of small events) because the boss wasn't on site or if the company is going downhill. In any case, it was painful enough to make us reconsider hiring them next time we need a tree service company. That's sad. read more

I had Lopez out to maintain some trees that had overgrown. They did a great job and I feel deserve their Yelp rating. They came out initially to give me a quote. I thought they were prompt and professional. Their quote while not the lowest was in range of the lowest quote I received and I had confidence they would do a professional job. Day of, they sent almost a dozen guys out and they quickly performed the job of cleaning multiple types of trees including palms, coral, jacaranda, and focus trees. After a big windstorm, a tree fell in our yard and onto our cars. I called the number, which ended up being the direct line for Arturo Lopez (the owner) and left a message on New Year's Day. He returned the call within 5 mins and was at our house to provide an estimate within an hour. I expected to get a call back the next business day! He said he always keeps his phone on him after a wind storm. He knew the situation was urgent and moved an annual maintenance service with another customer (with an explanation of what happened at our home) to the following day so he could bring a crew out the next morning to our house. I called last month to get a quote to cut our massive avocado tree. I was able to send him pictures and he gave me a quote via text. Price was great but unfortunately they were super busy so I had to wait a month to get the tree cut. Tony and another guy showed up at noon to get started on the tree. We used them for free mulch service. They were quick to respond and fine to interact with. We knew we couldn't predict how much we'd get, but ended up with at least 3x what we needed and had to pay someone to remove much of it (which cost more than what we would have paid to buy nicer mulch at the quantity we needed). But my one star review is mainly for the fact that we explicitly said we didn't want eucalyptus bc we'd been advised it's bad for the soil. They told us the batch we'd get had some but very little eucalyptus in it. I don't know what percentage was in there, but what I do know is the entire batch was mixed with a lot of eucalyptus leaves and appeared to have much more than a small amount that would work for someone asking for none. Thus, I can't help, but think they made it seem like there wasn't much in there so they could dump the huge load on us. read more

Yes, hire Lopez Tree Svc. This team did a wonderful job trimming our fragile Chinaberry tree as well as our beloved but well overgrown Plumeria twin set. The plumeria had become so top-heavy, we had real concerns about it uprooting itself. Arturo's father came out to do the job himself with his team and they went above and beyond expectations. From retrieving a shiny aluminum balloon from the top of the tree that had been stuck for months and becoming an eyesore, to making sure nothing was damaged on our property during the process, even their clean up was top notch. We have fragile glass bulb patio lights weaved into the tree and they handled them with care and we didn't lose a single bulb. They communicated effectively through the process and everyone was incredibly professional. Highly recommend Arturo and his team. I contacted Arturo back on November 15th with a job regarding some tree trimming, due to insurance requirements. We communicated back and forth to figure out a day and time for him to come out and work. I sent him pictures and specifically told him all of the requirements the insurance company had sent me, and what needed to be done. It wasn't until December 11th that he made time to come out and work on the house, a seemingly easy job to complete. The work was completed in less than 2 hours on Dec 11th, and that night, when I got home, I checked on the completed work. It didn't look like the tree was trimmed back 10' from the house (which is what the insurance company required) so I reached out to Arturo to make sure that is what he did. He reassured me that he trimmed it back 10' and that it was "more than enough for insurance". I asked him to then send me the invoice for the work so I could submit it, along with pictures, to the insurance company. I got said invoice 3 days later. Come January 6th, I receive a letter from the insurance company stating that the tree is still within the 10' mark form the house, and that more work needed to be done. I climbed onto the roof to measure the distance myself, just to double check, and behold.... the distance was in fact less than 10'. In fact it was only 8' away from the house. I immediately contacted Arturo for him to come back to "finish" the job, since it was clear he in fact did NOT do what I had asked of him to do. He then proceeded to dodge my phone calls, my voicemails, and my text messages. Since then, he has barely responded, making it very clear he has no interest in completing the unfinished work he had done. If you want a terrible job for a competitive price, use this service. But if you want the work to be completely correctly, then AVOIDE THEM AT ALL COSTS! They don't listen to your needs properly, and when the work isn't completed properly, they take no responsibility for fixing it. read more

Would give zero stars if I could, but overall would not recommend this company at all! Met with Albert on 5/17/19 on a tree trimming and removal job I urgently needed. He came out the same day I called him and seemed like a knowledgable and nice guy, but definitely does not know how to run a responsible business or acknowledge customers. --- After receiving the estimate, I immediately emailed him to start the job and stopped my search for a tree contractor. He didn't respond, so I texted him at the cell phone number I had originally reached him at. It took multiple attempts to reach him and he basically said he was out of town and coming back that night. Well...multiple texts later and 3 weeks have passed and I don't know if he is still on vacation! Very irresponsible and rude of him to never even call or text to apologize.
