Also, it's cash only, and make sure you bring your own boxes to carry your plants. The volunteers are really nice and helpful here. Prices started at $3 for the smaller plants and went up from there. The organic green house not only offers children's and adult classes, they also have a wonderful community garden which is open Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 12 pm. it is also the only teaching greenhouse from the Chicago Park District, located within the grounds of Kilbourn Park. They seek to connect people to nature, teach sustainable gardening practices, and promote fresh and healthy food to people of all ages through garden-based programming. Kids can enjoy the Garden Buddies program for toddlers, plus the Harvest Garden and Eco-Explorers programs for youth. Adult gardeners can attend a continuing education series and other workshops sponsored by The Friends of Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse. Although the park is one of the smaller ones in the city, they have a soccer field, tennis courts, playground, basketball court, Kilbourn Park also offers different after school programs for kids and a summer camp that is quite good.

SCAMMER SCAMMERS SCAMMERS--------…read more I called to order some garden mix for our new raised beds-I thought the price sounded good, and the Fortini on the phone told me we would be getting a great mix for a raised garden bed it would be -dirt-manure compost and sand in this garden mix-suitable for vegetable gardening. What we got was what seemed like some dirt they pulled out a of a construction site-it was all clay and rocks, with some sand thrown in for a good appearance, I did not smell a whiff of any manure-I was naive and put it in my beds-when it rained the clay formed what looks like cement on the surface and tons of cement rocks came to the surface. Fortini and Sons is not selling Garden Mix they are selling dirt from Joe Schmoski's latest construction site-NOT GOOD-I wonder what poisons are lurking in this load of GARBAGE. When we called Fortini told me we didnt smell manure compost because the compost was aged for two years and has no scent-now why would I want two year old compost for my garden? Silly me, it needed an opportunity to bloom! A couple hours after pick up, it is absolutely gorgeous.
