F-150 with low oil pressure warning. Desk guys tried to trick me into a new engine for $15k. I asked if they checked the oil pressure sensor and they lied to me saying it was fine. Took truck home and removed the alternator only to find the sensor was leaking oil and had gone bad. I bought a new oil pressure sensor for $35 and installed it myself. Took it to another mechanic and they verified the oil pressure was good. Wrote a letter to Loren's, never received a reply. I'll never go back to Loren's. read more

I'm a retired senior Army special operations officer. Last fall I went to Loren's to have our F-150 checked out because we kept getting a low oil pressure light. I'd had pretty good success working with them in the past, so I hoped they'd do a good job again. Their motto is "Service with Integrity." I dropped the truck off and when I went back to check on it later in the afternoon the front desk guys told me I needed a new engine because the #7 engine bearings were ruined. They said it would cost about $15,000 and asked when I wanted to schedule. I was skeptical. In my younger days I built Porsche racing engines, so I know a bit about engines. I knew they were wrong and asked them if they had checked the oil pressure sensor located behind the alternator. They said yes. I asked how it looked and they said it looked just fine. They said they could do a $600 oil pressure test. I declined, sensing I was being scammed. In the end they charged me over $150 for no help. I drove my truck home. The next day I put it up on ramps, removed the alternator and found the oil pressure sensor was leaking oil badly. I went to the dealer bought a new one ($35), installed it, cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner, put dielectric grease on the contacts, and reinstalled the alternator. Just to make sure, I took it to another shop and they flashed the engine control unit back to factory settings (for $150) and it's been as good as new. As an additional precaution I sent an engine oil sample to an oil lab ($45) and the results came back just fine with no indication of bearing wear. I recently wrote to Loren's explaining the situation in great detail and politely requested a refund. They never responded. I'll not do business there again. I hope the owners reads this and fires the people who tried to scam me to restore their company's integrity. read more

Great service, work was completed same day. They were recommended by a coworker and we will go back. Cost reasonable. Identified work to be considered but rated it in order of what's more important when we can get to it. Didn't push us to add service this visit. No pressure, fixed what we came for. Provided texts of updates and photos of everything to show/educate us. Honest, cleaned a sensor and said that was as simple as it was. Didn't push false repairs or parts. I bought my car Loren's for the first time services were; a turn up, tire alignment and check car over for anything wrong. I didn't want my 10 year old car having any issues during the winter months and leaving me stranded in -30°. I ended up replacing the brakes, rotors, battery cables connections and oil change. The battery was less than a year old so they didn't test it to make sure it was ok yet they replaced the connections because of acid corrosion. A week later my car was dead when I came out of work, it was -6 degrees and I was freezing waiting over an hour for AAA tow. When I took the car back to Loren's I was charged a diagnostic about $150 for something they should have checked when they replaced the connections due to the amount of acid present. Turn's out the battery was bad and I had to replace it. Since the battery was under warranty I took it back to Les Schwab for replacement. Loren's could have saved me the loss time from work, freezing in below temperatures and the fee, by doing a simple battery check. I wasn't happy at all since I spent a lot of money getting my car ready for the weather that was coming. I do not recommend them and will not be returning for any future services. Afterwards I found out from long time locals that they are way over priced and they advised me of a few local shops that are fair and do very good work. read more

Loren's is a very clean and nice looking shop where they advertise themselves as the "best in kalispell". This may be true, but where they really shine is ripping off people who don't know better for routine services that could be performed elsewhere for much cheaper, or for a better price if they learned to source parts better. Here, the decent and hardworking people of Kalispell, can get handed receipts with no parts breakdowns, no labor breakdowns, and without any communications whatsoever because "they were told a few months ago how much it would cost". And when they ask about why it cost that much the service advisor (Mark!) can tell them "I'm not telling you because it's proprietary". Any mechanic anywhere will tell you exactly what you're paying for and why it costs that much, but not service advisor Mark! Do you enjoy labor rates more expensive than dealerships? And parts markups of 100%? Then Loren's is definitely the shop for you. My parents had a started replaced here where the absolute most expensive option was purchased without their input and installed at a cool $300+ in labor where National average shows $100-$200. But wait! There's more! When you talk to Mark on the phone he will get aggressive with you and tell you to take it up with the manager. Then when you come in to discuss it in person he'll hide in the back like a pathetic little child. Sure likes ripping off the elderly and disabled but hates when he's confronted about it. read more

I called to make an appointment at Loren's to have my front two brake pads changed after having it inspected at Les Schwab (who said my front two brake PADS needs to be changed) and when I arrived to my appointment at Loren's, they told me all four of my brake pads and rotors needed to be changed--which was very unlikely because rotors don't often need to be changed. They simply used my lack of expertise in the field to swindle me into paying $1,000, instead of the price I was told on the phone by their front desk agent which was $650. They also told me they couldn't change JUST my brake pads, it would have to be both the pads and rotors when I arrived for my appointment. This place is a scam. read more

Went to Loren's Auto Repair to fix my Toyota's bumper. They said they do that kind of work. They were friendly but unhelpful.

Absolutely terrible service! I went down to have my windshield wiper repaired as it was not working. I needed to go out of town two days later and needed it repaired quickly. They told me they repaired it (I should have checked when I picked up the vehicle). When I found out it wasn't working was after I had already traveled an hour and a half out of town and hit a rain storm and tried to use it. Needless to say, it didn't work! To make matters even worse, when I called to talk to them about the problem they took no responsibility for it. Do not go here! read more

My Lexus GX470 had an ongoing electronic suspension issue. I took it to Toyota multiple times in hopes they could diagnose the issue and repair it. We are from Vancouver Canada. Our 1999 Mercedes SL 500 stalled out at low speeds several times the day we intended to drive through Glacier National Park. We needed car repair of some sort before heading into the mountains for sight seeing or to return home. The closest Mercedes dealership was a 2 hour drive away in Missoula. The opposite direction we wanted to travel. I called and found that Loren's had recently added a Mercedes trained technician to their shop crew. I was relieved. Within an hour of dropping the car off the technician determined that the electronic part that failed was the crank shaft monitoring sensor. It reads the crank shaft motion and has the main function of shutting down fuel injection and spark ignition when it senses something out of the ordinary. It is a common Mercedes problem that this sensor slowly degrades with heat exposure over time. The MB on board computer stores the problem reports. So the MB trained technician was able to retrieve the error code records and confirm what problem had occurred. All fixed up by noon the next day after the stalling occurred. And we were back on the road to see Glacier National Park and head back home to Canada. We were very lucky to have a trained MB technician in a shop 15 minutes drive from our hotel. Otherwise it was going to a challenge to drive back to Missoula Montana - 2 hours away, to get to a MB dealership. read more

There are no doubt less expensive mechanics in Kalispell, but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. These guys are all about service. Lorens was amazing. I've had terrible experiences the last 5-10 places I've had my car taken to. The mechanics cutting my timing belt to saying I needed parts replaced that didn't. Not this case with Lorens. My car was making a weird noice so they hooked it up on the diagnostics machine and nothing came back other than the serpentine belt wearing which was making the weird noise. Great work; brutally expensive. They are very professional, though, so whatever you have done here will be done to a first-rate level. They are 100% thorough. They don't just fix it to get you by; they do it all the way. Great shop, and probably worth the money. If it is a minor issue, you may want to take it somewhere else. If it is major, this is probably the place to go. Just be prepared to pay. I would recommend them, however. They're probably the best shop in Kalispell. read more

I took my car in their for a repair and this establishment took me to the cleaners. I went in to have my brakes bled and my car came out with the timing changed, the fan control was changed, my car overheated within 20 minutes of leaving (and I never had this problem before) this was a new engine, and radiator so I knew this was not the problem. I took it to my regular mechanic and he saw that the timing and fan control switch was fooled with on purpose. This is not a company that I would ever bring ANY car to have any work done EVER..They will rip you off!! They also tried recomending all sorts of other repairs...this car had been rebuilt from the ground up..all new parts..It needed nothing, yet they had recomended replacing wheelbearings, etc! This shop and everyone working in it are terrific!! Got towed in by a AAA tow operator from Glacier National Park and was happy to learn that Loren's is also a AAA shop. They squeezed me in their schedule, promptly diagnosed the problem as a failed alternator, and ordered a replacement part asap. Since my car is a Volvo, a replacement part was not available locally but did arrive a few days later. As soon as it arrived, they squeezed me in again and got my car up and running...with a car wash too! While we were stuck in Kalispell, Loren's was extremely helpful in shuttling me to and from a rental car, to and from our hotel, and even came up with a free loaner car for awhile. Our service advisor Chad was knowledgeable and friendly, and extremely helpful. Our mechanic Ryan, who was trained on Mercedes and therefore was familiar with the European aspects of our Volvo, certainly knows his profession! Other members of the Loren's team were equally pleasant, friendly and helpful during our unplanned visit to Kalispell. Great shop, great business, great people! read more

On a road trip from Ohio across the Rockies our brakes failed on the eastern side of Glacier National Park. We called Loren's and asked if there was any way they could help us as we're from out of state and had 0 brake pads left. Not only were they super friendly and attentive, they got us right in and we were out within 2 hours able to keep driving on our road trip. Awesome service! I had a window that wouldn't roll down and they were able to figure out what was wrong quickly and help me make a decision about what to do. They explained everything really well before they actually did anything to my car. Apparently it was from an accident my car was in years ago, and it was just happening over time. They even recommended a body shop to get my door fixed so it wouldn't happen again. If I weren't moving I would go back here for any other problems I have.
