However, the cuisine in Lorenzo de Medici is an experience and an explosion of taste I've never experienced before. We had brochetta for appetizer, the house Red Wine, lasagna (which was fire) linguine with fettuccine Alfredo and chicken, which wasn't on the menu but they made it special for my son, and a pasta with pears. Also he surprised me with a desert that was the best I've ever tasted called Zuccatto Fiorentino. One of the best part of this entire experience is Raphael the waiter. This warm and welcoming restaurant is located very close to our hotel Tivoli Palazzo Gadi, so on a cold winter night we decided it was right for us. It was wonderful. We were glad that we had gotten reservations because the place was packed. The pasta here is good. But our steak was not. The restaurant had a few things I want to call out. 1. The hand made pasta was good but not great with the meat sauce. 2. The Florentine steak special they had, we requested rare but it came out medium. We asked the waiter to change it but he made up some story that the steak can't be cooked rare since it's a thin steak. But we know our steaks and that's easier to cook if it's thin. So we were unhappy at how he shut us down. 3. Then we asked another waiter for our check. He told us to go up to pay but every other day had their check delivered to them. So we complained about that but he apologized. 4. They didn't offer any bread and when I requested it they forgot it. 5. The service just was not great overall. I don't recommend coming here, there are better places with better food and prices if you walk a bit further. read more

Ugh what a mistake! We had wandered around Florence all afternoon after our tour through the Uffizi Gallery and we were ready to have a bite to eat before a short rest. This was nearby our hotel. We should have known as their street hustler was very pushy to get us to come in and eat offering us a complimentary glass of Prosecco each for my husband and I. We took the bait and the atmosphere looked good. We sat down and were greeted by a waiter. Everything seemed ok. They promptly brought the Prosecco. We ordered a liter of wine and a bottle of water. We did not want a heavy meal since we were going out to dinner later. We just wanted some appetizers to share. We ordered an antipasto plate and an order of four cheese gnocchi. Also note that the wine glasses and water glasses were pretty grungy. I'm not one to complain so I just ignored this and made due with what was given to us. Everything seemed ok until it was time to pay. We got the bill and noticed that they had charged for what we thought was the Prosecco but forgot to put the liter of wine on the tab. No big deal we thought. We are honest people so my husband went to the server to let him know that our bottle of wine was not on the bill and that the Prosecco was on the bill. He quickly informed us that the charge we thought was the Prosecco was actually for place settings! We were surprised since this has never happened at any restaurant we have been to in Florence or anywhere in Italy. The server was adamant that it was standard practice. Again being honest to let them know we needed to pay for the bottle of wine we assumed once we were told of this "standard practice" it would be removed since we ate and had wine. We were not just there freeloading which I could see a table charge for if we had just taken the "complimentary" Prosecco and bread and not ordered anything. However, that was not the case. The waiter continued to argue with my husband who does not tolerate dishonesty and shady business like this. The restaurant refused to take the fees off the check. My husband was furious. We left and told them that they were dishonest and that they should be ashamed for cheating their customers. To top it off the food gave me a terrible stomach ache and heartburn which is odd for what we ordered. Food was ok but not great and now I do not feel up to going out to dinner as planned because I feel sick. read more

The combination of burrata and mozzarella was unique and tasty. The pizzas were also cooked to perfection and a good size. They also added a good amount of toppings as well. In terms of entrees, we loved the mixed grill of meats and mixed seafood. The menu is very large so you have a variety of great dishes to choose from. The service during our dinner was spectacular as well. Our waiter made tons of jokes and gave us many suggestions on what to get. He was awesome and had an awesome sense of humor which made our night special. The manager also did a fine job of getting us a table even though the restaurant was packed. This is what I called a tourist trap. A place that is in the hot touristic area where no local people can go and therefore you would never experience authenticity. We just went here for dinner this past Saturday, 10/4/25; food was fine, service was average but the terrible experience we had was when my 16 year old daughter had her purse stolen. Yes, she had it hanging on the chair; while we were seated inside close to an interior wall of the restaurant. Once we realized her purse (with a credit card, her cell phone & apartment key) was gone, we notified our server; he flat out denied that it happened, that she hadn't brought in her purse etc etc. I was shocked at their lack of help, empathy & had to wait another 20 minutes to pay our bill. In that time frame, I cancelled the credit card (the thieves had already charged about 400 euros & her sim card had been removed from the cell phone , it was not traceable). I truly believe it was an inside job amongst the workers in the restaurant, especially with the men standing outside the eatery, trolling for people to come inside. We were an easy target for professional thieves. Word of advice, keep your belongings attached to you at all times. Oyyy... what to say about this place. While this was in a very central area it wasn't on a super busy street like the other restaurants we passed so we thought it would be less of a tourist trap but as other reviewers mentioned, they have the menu in different languages and that's your first sign... We get seated and was given menus. Then about 15 minutes later a couple comes in who apparently has been to this restaurant a few times since the manager (baldish head man?) Was welcoming them and saying welcome back. They get sat right next to us and that's when we realllly realized we were all chopped liver. This table gets their bread and plates and water before we get anything at all. When our bread finally comes, they dont bring us plates. The manager is having full conversations with this table next to us who apparently are parents of a bride who is getting married in a few days. They then asked the manager if he knows a pizza maker because they were tasked to find someone to make pizza for the wedding as a late night bite option. The manager pulls a server and says he's a great pizza maker, the best! Uhh... the server at your restaurant is the best pizza maker?? We witness this whole salesy moment and it was so cringe to have to be there. I finally get my pizza and it was soggy as hell. Not only that but the toppings were all sectioned off instead of scattered so like if you cut a piece, you either get all mushrooms, all olives, all prosciutto on your piece. I had to separate everything myself so each bite can have all the toppings. This was the first time I saw a pizza in Italy made like this. I'm actually so sad this was my last pizza because I had a slice of my husband's pizza in Sorrento and it was soooo delicious and this pizza was worst than anything back home in the states. Like I make better pizza at home with premade dough... i hope the server didn't make this pizza or they're about to be sorely disappointed. Anyways, at this point the manager, our server, and another server was spending all their time doing a sales pitch to this couple who wanted to hire them to make pizza at this wedding so the rest of us were pretty much ignored. The table opposite of us with an elderly couple from France was ignored too. They asked the male pizza maker server for a coffee and instead of getting it he stopped to talk to the table with the special request. This french couple just watched him talk to these people for 20 mins before they finally got their coffee.
