This restaurant is located directly across from the Mercato Centrale and my hotel which made it convenient for dinner last week. It has indoor and enclosed outdoor seating which lets you people watch as you are dining. Being in Florence and knowing that one of Tuscany's most popular food entrees is Bistecca alla Florentina, I ordered that for my meal along with a contorni of fagioli all'uccelletto. In the US we would call this meal a steak with a side of beans. T-bone steak that is and this steak was very thick and cooked medium rare as suggested. I rarely eat steak but once in a while I indulge and this was the right time to do that. Yes it was a lot of meat and yes it was tasty. I almost finished it and the baked white beans were delicious too. This meal wasn't cheap because of the super large steak (Texas size) but it was an enjoyable experience that satisfied my red meat fix for the next few days at least. Also, the Chianti Classico wine paired well with this meal. My English speaking waiter was prompt and professional and I would be happy to return to try one of their pasta dishes. read more

I was given a gluten free menu and from there we tried the pizza and the gnocchi. My husband also had a lovely gluten pasta dish. All delicious. What really wowed us were the desserts! Save room. I'm pretty sure I just ate the biggest steak on the planet. Over 2 pounds of T-Bone split with the wife and I have the meat sweats. The bistecca Florentine is a must in Florence. And if you get it prepared the way the locals do, it is still kicking when it hits your table. It has some fat ( show me a big steak that doesn't) but is prepared perfectly. There are no condiments on the table or needed and I am pretty sure you would be shot on site if you ask for A-1. Order the steak. Avoid an appetizer as you seriously do not have room. God help you if you do. Order the beans as the side dish. Eat them all. You will never find beans like this in the States and will never forgive yourself if you don't eat them. Don't pretend to be anything but American. I think mostly locals dine here and we did get the stare down when we walked in. I wasn't wearing my trucker hat with the eagle on it so I think they just know, and maybe don't care for, visitors. Service was still fairly attentive but not in a Disneyland sort of way. Like everywhere in Italy be prepared to buy your water and pay pretty well for it. You are better off putting that towards some great wine or a good beer. read more

In fact, we like when a server speaks only Italian...we think it's more authentic and we feel like, if it's how they're comfortable...great. Except our server was just not nice. Made fun of my wife at how she pronounced the wine. Was short with us. And then, when we received the bill, seemed very confused about putting a tip on the total (something you have to do in Italy if paying by credit card). Came here based on the recommendation of my airbnb as a decent alternative to the popular Zaza. It's a good option for gluten-free (even their pizza is gluten-free). But I regret coming here because of the price and the food. Service was friendly, though. FOOD// So salty! Out of three primis, one secondo, and one contorno. Only one of the pasta dishes didn't taste like they had been drowned in sea water. The seafood pasta and seafood, which I had been looking forward to after having great seafood in Napoli, were beyond fishy. I had to give up on the dish half way because of the salt and fishiness. Meat dishes were gamey. Dunno if it was too early in the day to order them, but the beans in the fagioli al fiasco were half-cooked. Only dish that was decent was the pici al cinghiale (wild boar pasta). I hate wasting food (especially when this place was not cheap), but there was so much sodium in everything that I felt my arteries constricting. None of us could finish any of our dishes (except the pici). SERVICE// No worries about bad service/language issues if you're a foreigner. Because of its location, it's completely catered towards foreign tourists, and frankly, you'd be hard-pressed to find yourself in the minority while in this restaurant. We had mostly seafood and we were thinking about coming back a different night for steak and meat. The waitress and bus boys were attentive and provided good service. But be aware this restaurant will hit you with 2 euros for each person on the bill for cover charge. This was our 4th night in Italy and was the first restaurant we encounters that had a "cover charge". Apparently it's at the choice of the restaurant in Italy and can range from 1-2 euros per person. It's not bad considering in the US, we have tax and tip on top of the menu price. We finally made it in for lunch, and while it was a pleasant experience -- the atmosphere, the service -- the food was just okay. We were glad that there were cooked greens on the menu (I believe a spinach/chard mix) which is rare on an Italian menu, and they were delicious, but everything else was just okay. read more

This place is fine to eat. Nice interior with AC. For 24 euros, I got the menu bistecca which includes 500g florentine steak + potatoes + dessert of the day. I got the medium steak and some parts of it were on the rare side, which I don't mind too much. I must say though, florentine steak is pretty tough compared to american steaks. It was hard to cut and took a while to eat. Was this place amazing? no...but it fulfilled my protein craving for the day. I had to add salt and pepper since it was pretty bland. The dessert consisted of 3 layers of crunchy pastry with cream in between each layer. I think there are other places around that are cheaper for the steak.
