My wife and I ended up staying at Microtel tonight, and the woman at the front desk recommended Loenzo's. We were presented with an upbeat Saturday night dinner crowd when we arrived. Everyone appeared to be having a good time inside and out on their patio. We chose inside and were quickly seated, and our server for the evening was a very friendly young woman named Randi. Being this was our first visit, we asked her advice and, after listening to our preferences, she recommended a few choices. We went with the pistachio pesto pizza and the tomato and mozzarella salad, both of which were great. The meal's grand finale was a carrot cake that induced my wife into culinary orgasmic bliss that, until tonight, I have not seen in 32 years of marriage. We stopped for dinner on our way to New Hampshire. What a great place! The food was fabulous. The homemade pasta had great texture and flavor. And there was some type of butter that literally melted in my mouth. Coming from Chicago, Italian restaurants are hard to find really great quality and taste...this one was up for the challenge. We have been there several times since moving here and it never fails to meet expectations. Waitstaff is wonderful and so is the food! The seafood bisque arrives hot and creamy, loaded with seafood. U could nake a meal of this. Entrees are all just delicious and cooked to perfection. The veal is always tender and the portions are generous, many leave with to go boxes. Several of my friends recently rode bikes along the entire Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany. We ate at several nice eating establishments but NONE compare to the meal the seven of us had at Lorenzo's. Service was beyond compare and the owner was simply the most welcoming gentleman one could meet. Brooke was our server and she was superb. The pizzas were all perfect snd the calamari was the best I have ever had. This is what hospitality is all about. To top it off one of his sons attended Providence College, a school near and dear to my heart. This is a spot not miss if you are anywhere near Amsterdam / Albany. An asset to the Southside in Amsterdam, NY. Owned and operated by the Lanzi family. Just opened two weeks ago for inside and outside dining. Delicious Italian food, signature house dressing on salads. Nice views out on the covered deck outside. Thursday is pizza speciality night. A welcome addition and all pasta is homemade. The food was ok but not for my taste. The Italian nachos were ok but the pizza was unusual. The crust was very floppy and oily. The tables outside were also very small so there was not a lot of room for appetizers and pizzas. This is definitely not a good place to bring small children . I travel all over the state for work, and this is my favorite place to eat at. I've had nearly everything on the menu from food, to drinks, to desserts, and it's all fresh, scratch made, and top quality. It's difficult for me to choose a favorite but for dinner my standbys are the chicken Milanese or the rigatoni with bolognese (if it's on special). The pizzas are also amazing with a nice chewy and slightly charred crust... my pizza is choice is the Americana. It's difficult to choose a top dessert because they are all exceptional (and all very large and shareable) but the carrot cake, toasted almond cake, and peanut butter pie are extra special. The restaurant does not disappoint. We have only eaten inside a handful of times, we get take home often and the food has always been great. The pasta is amazing and the sauce is perfect. The house salad dressing is good enough to bottle, which thankfully they do so you can buy some for home. Don't forget the bread, homemade and is perfect to sop up the sauce, that too should be bottled to take home. The staff is always friendly, welcoming and attentive, even through the pandemic. We got the family style, which had enough for four very hungry people, and included eggplant parmigiana, handmade fettuccine noodles with red sauce, and salad. I never write reviews (maybe 2-3 in my entire life), but felt compelled to give this restaurant a review. I was told by a friend that the food was really good, but I definitely tampered my expectations because of its small town location and newness. However, each item we ordered was by far superior. We ordered the BYOP (Build your own pasta), Shrimp Lorenzo, and a side of meatballs. The homemade tomato sauce was super tasty and well seasoned. The pasta was fresh and soft. The shrimp were a good size (not skimpy at all). The sausage (in the BOYP) and meatballs were really delicious as well. Even the homemade Italian dressing and bread were well made. 10/10 all around.
