Some people think The Hill has the Best Italian food.. most will disagree with me when I say that Bartolinos is probably one of the Best Italian Restaurants around.... We usually stick to the one on Lindbergh as it is closest to home. We had an impromptu date Friday with No reservations but we were seated right away as they weren't as busy so yeah US!!! A Lemon Drop Martini always hits the spot after a long week!! The Arancini Balls were delish and the sauce I could have licked off the plate but I controlled myself and used bread!! I tried something different and got the Chicken Ferri with a Baked potato. Best Chicken. Lightly breaded, pan seared with Lemon, Garlic and White Wine Sauce. The Hubby got the Scallop Risotto. Highly recommend. And you can't not get dessert (even if you take most of it home for later). Cheesecake with a Strawberry Sauce. Special Note: I love hearing the regular customers that come in a great each other!! Plus owner Mike Saracino is always there greeting customers and asks how service was! Top Knotch!!!

Great spot for a meal, even better when there's live music. My family alwayssss makes a point to come when the Strangers duo is playing, and they never disappoint. If you haven't seen them, you MUST. For this reason, I usually sit on the patio for the music (it can get a little tight out there with the band set up), but the inside has a classy, elegant vibe with high tops in the bar area for a more casual vibe. The linguine tutto mare and cavatelli alla vodka I tried this time were both delicious, but the seafood risotto is my go-to favorite. Pro tip: split it between two people; they'll divide it for you and even throw on a little extra seafood. Don't skip the espresso martini or cookie skillet for dessert either, both fantastic.

Difficult to find a restaurant near us on a Sunday evening. This worked fantastically! Old world atmosphere and great service. Dishes were presented with a lot of eye appeal. Attentive, polite service. Cocktail menu appealing and interesting wine selections. Can see why this family is iconic in the food industry in STL.

I never go to fancy restaurants, so I would consider this place a strong impression for me. Please consider that a good thing. For starters, the setting of this restaurant is really nice-I liked the dimmed lights, the quiet atmosphere, it's great. It's a busy dining place, but so peaceful. Service was really great. Our server was pretty talkative and welcoming. Restrooms were absolutley POLISHED. Done and dusted. Squeaky clean. Great heavens. I was shocked but-that's a good thing. Food was decent in my opinion. It's only like every other Italian place I've tried, and would I call that a compliment or an insult? It depends what you order. Haha. Please don't laugh at that. I am highlighting the last sentence in big fat huge marker with a giant bloody red arrow that points to a sentence that is again, bloody red that says "light hearted." Anywho, this place was nice but I highly doubt I'll have another oppurtunity where I get to eat here again. It was good when I went here, though!

Bartolino's is always a great choice! I'd never been to this location until this year and I've been three times now. I have used their private space twice for company events, big and small and they do an exceptional job. Truly exceptional. Service is exceptional, management is exceptional, food is exceptional. If you ever need a spot to host a private party or happy hour, you can't go wrong booking your event here they make it so easy and everything is absolutely delicious. They also catered very well to our vegetarians. My favorite appetizers are the caprese salad, artichokes, calamari, and seafood stuffed mushrooms. They also have a fantastic mixed drink menu and guess what - the cocktails are exceptional! ;) Nothing but love for Bartolino's South!

This is a great place if you want a little extra date. It's quiet and intimate. The service is good and the food portion is enormous. I ate this for another meal the next day. The clams were fresh and the pasta sauce was flavorful.

My wife and I went to Bartolino's south last night and enjoyed one of our favorite meals. We both had the sole ferri with white pasta and a Caesar salad. The fish was cooked to perfection. It was flaky and well seasoned. It is a lighter meal . The white pasta was creamy with a nice garlic sauce but not overpowering. The Caesar salad was fresh and crisp. Angela our waitress was very attentive and was excellent to work with she definitely took care of our every need. We were seated in the back room which is kind of plain but better lighting compared to the main dining room. I had an Italian beer and my wife had the Bartolino's tea which she said was excellent my beer was also good.

The only thing that tricked us was the Toasted Ravioli. It has meat in it, and my wife is vegetarian. The Arancini was terrific and the table bread was also quite tasty. My wife had the Manicotti and I had the Chicken Lemonata. So great. The bottle of the house Gitto's Red was the perfect wine as well. A great experience at a restaurant that is a legend in St. Louis and I am glad it was our first meal in the city.

Being from the Bay Area in California, I had never heard of toasted ravioli so I added it to my itinerary. I found this place on Yelp and saw that Guy Fieri (another Bay Area native) had featured it on his show so I settled on Anthonino's. I walked over from the Botanical Garden on a Friday afternoon around 12pm so that I could get a better feel of the streets, locals, surrounding shops, and the Hill neighborhood. The area was very calm, clean, safe and had a sense of pride. I enjoyed the sights and sounds throughout the streets and by the time I arrived at the front door, I was super excited to eat. I was seated quickly at the bar and given a menu and water. The bar staff were friendly and pleasant to talk to and also took my order within a few minutes. The restaurant quickly filled up behind me and it was a lively environment. I really appreciated that the TVs had sports shows on (huge sports fan and was in town to visit Busch Stadium) so it gives you something to look at. I ordered the toasted ravioli and a tiramisu. As a solo traveler, I have to limit how much I can order so this was the perfect amount for me. The food was amazing and I wished that I could have tried more plates. The ravioli had great flavors and texture and the tiramisu was so creamy and fresh. I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself. The customer service from all staff members was amazing! Thank you for this experience :)

I never actually saw the inside of the restaurant because one member of our party needed handicap accessibility, and unfortunately the entrance only had steps with no alternate accessible entry available. Thankfully, it was a beautiful evening and we were able to dine comfortably at one of the outdoor tables. Our server was kind, attentive, and very helpful throughout the meal. We started by sharing a few appetizers including the toasted ravioli, which St. Louis is famous for, along with calamari. Both were enjoyable and a great way to begin the meal. The meals came with bread, butter, and a bottle of seasoned oil for dipping, which was a nice touch. My entrée included a salad with a sweet Italian dressing that I absolutely loved -- honestly, I would have been perfectly happy eating a larger portion of just the salad. For my main course, I chose the veal parmigiana. The flavor was good, although the veal itself was slightly tough, and the pasta side came with shells rather than traditional spaghetti. To finish the evening, we shared tiramisu and a cannoli for dessert. Both were enjoyable, but the cannoli definitely won the flavor battle for our table. Overall, despite the accessibility concern, we enjoyed the experience, the service, and many parts of the meal.

One of our traditions is trying a different Italian restaurant each visit based on reviews and recommendations from friends. This time, our party of five chose Mama's, and for most of us it was our first visit. I got a reservation weeks in advance and was clear about what we were celebrating. Starting with the positives, our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, and the food was good. Every entree at our table was enjoyable, and nobody left disappointed with their meal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience fell short of our expectations because of the atmosphere. We were celebrating a significant occasion and were seated in the basement dining area. The space felt very sterile, with white walls, white floors, and a white ceiling. It lacked the warmth, charm, and character that many of us associate with dining on The Hill. The room was also packed with large parties, making it quite loud. Rather than feeling like a special night out, the atmosphere reminded me more of a banquet hall or VFW gathering than an Italian restaurant known for celebrations and family traditions. For me, great dining is about more than just the food. While the meal itself was good, ambiance, setting, and overall experience matter too, especially when celebrating something important. Based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend Mama's for a special occasion, and I don't see myself returning. Good food and friendly service can only carry an experience so far when the atmosphere doesn't match the occasion.

I have had salve osteria on the hit list for a while, and my expectations were far exceeded. This place is both insanely busy and also a hidden gem at the same time. It does not get the attention, nor press it deserves. The place is jumping with good people and good vibes. I got their New Years special which was prix fixe with prime rib as the main event. Everything was superb. The cassoulet had a beautiful spice with a velvety texture. The crab tom yum risotto was so decadent. Silky smooth from the coconut with a beautiful herby finish from the mint chili oil to complement the crab. I never thought I'd say this, but the brussel sprouts stole the show! Cooked in some bacon fat they were crunchy, salty, and perfect. Oh, and the prime rib was everything a kid could ever dream of. Fatty and the cacao rub was amazing. The horseradish was spectacular. The whipped potatoes were light and airy. Think of mashed potatoes in whipped cream form. A texture and flavor combination I will now dream of because I imagine I will never get to experience something so lovely again. As for cocktails, i kept it simple with a martini... I mean, it is a gin bar, how could I not? The service was great. I was dining solo and the servers and bar tender kept me updated, well taken care, and treated with intense hospitality. Despite being super busy they still prioritized me! Can't wait to get back and try the normal menu, everything looks lovely in a lovely space full of lovely people!

The duck bread entree was seared to perfection and cooked exactly how it was meant to be cooked. The Panna Cotta was a seasonal masterpiece. I did have one issue: I ordered a Barr Hill Vodka Martini at a premium price, and it had a strong taste of Juniper. I alerted the staff and they were very apologetic and understanding, unfortunately the manager assured me it was Vodka and didn't acknowledge the possibility it tasted like gin. I'm guessing bartender failed to rinse the shaker properly after the previous gin shake, resulting in a vodka drink with a strong gin flavor. The staff kindly replaced the drink with a lower quality vodka that helped satisfy me. The situation was resolved, but I walked away feeling misunderstood and dismissed by the owner. I will be back and I do recommend this restaurant. :)

We ordered a bottle of Amarone and enjoyed it with the whole meal. For starters, we ordered the polenta with Italian sausage between the two of us. We could only exclaim about how creamy the polenta was. It was extremely hearty, with some vegetables and thinly sliced Italian sausage. I'm glad that the Italian sausage was thinly sliced because otherwise it would have been overpowering for my palette. The next dish that my daughter had was technically a Caprese salad, which was tomato and mozzarella. She didn't like the red onion, but had asked for balsamic vinegar on the side, which she added to the salad, and when I tried the balsamic vinegar, even I realized that it is one of the best that I have ever had. My daughter went with the gnocchi, and said that it was among the best that she had ever had. We shared a veal and mushroom risotto between the two of us, and it was perfectly moist, the veal was not overpowering, and it was perfectly cooked. The veal just simply melted in the mouth. My osso buco came on a saffron risotto, and the osso buco was fantastic, tender, and simply delightful.
