We heard another couple tell us about this restaurant claiming that they made great pupusas... I think my husband and I can come off as good snobs because we initially scoffed in disbelief that there were delicious pupusas in our neighborhood that we had yet to try. And boy... were we wrong. I'd compare these to my preferred spot in LA that only accepts cash. Warning, their pupusas are large! At least close to the size of an 8.5 inch Dixie plate. First time, we ordered 2 each but could only finish one per meal. Their cheese was on point too. Oh, and their fried platanos with frijoles and crema... I could eat those all day. Their beans have the perfect flavor... We've ordered twice to go by phone and both times, the food was delicious. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is sooooo good. The pupusas are the best I've tried at a restaurant and I've been to quite a few in Los Angeles. Good pupusas! I'm Salvi but I don't like to eat pupusas as often as my mom, so when I do have a pupusa it better be good to satisfy my craving. My mom and I both approve and my bf who isn't Salvi also loved them. I like having my spots where I know I'll be happy when I order from there. Some may say it's pricey but everything went up in price after covid hit. I came here during the pandemic in 2020 and prices were a little less but at the end of the day I'll pay for what I like. Both times I called it in and picked it up but they do have plenty of seating and they also sell beer which Is nice. I ordered the shrimp and cheese pupusa and the pork, cheese, and bean (revuelta) both were good they're big. We also ordered a plate of platanos (fried plantain) which we all loved, they were ripe and perfectly cooked! Usually I don't see shrimp pupusas other places I have been to, I'm glad they had the option here I enjoyed it, they also have a good selection of veggie ones too. Oh my YUM!! I was pleasantly surprised. We telephone ordered for pick up. Couldn't believe how big the Pupusas were! They were generously stuffed. I'm of Salvadorian descent and everything we had surpassed my expectations. Pupusas: Queso con Loroco, Frijol y queso, Serrano Chile, all delicious! The salsa was tasty. My only complaint is that there was not enough curtido. I'm used to Salvadorian restaurants usually being generous on their curtido however, we had 2 whole Pupusas left over and no curtido left. To me, the curtido is a MUST! It makes the Pupusa. The "manager" walked around like she owns the place giving attitude and talking bad to customers. New policies have been placed with no warning to customers. This place opened up recently and as a Salvadoreño, I was very excited. Location: It is a very open and clean restaurant. A lot of natural lighting so you can nab a good picture to show your friends/family of the good food you're about to eat. Bathrooms are very well kept and modern. They also have a small bar that I'm sure will be poppin' once this COVID stuff blows over. Food: The food so far has been very great! Very authentic taste. It is prepared quickly without skimping on flavor. I'm anxious to try everything else on the menu. The horchata Salvadoreña is dope too! The flavor here reminds so much of El Salvador. Service: The Service here has been phenomenal. Every time I step inside I am immediately greeted by the whole staff. (Reminds me of the typical movies where everyone yells out your name.) The waitress makes sure to check up on you and your meal to ensure your needs are catered. Definitely a good sign. I hope this restaurant gets the recognition it deserves and thrives within Whittier. Ok first off the pupusas here are HUGE! They are literally the size of the Togo box so really eating one is totally enough! I thought the Serrano Chile con queso pupusa was the best out of the pupusas I ordered... it has a good kick! I also ordered the chicharron con queso which we felt was lacking... it didn't have much meat and was mostly cheese... we also had the steak with chimmichurri sauce and that was sooooo good! They took the order fairly quickly but once we were served, they never checked on us and I waited over 20 minutes to get a server (any server) to bring us our check. The music was okay, but way too loud. If I ever considered going there again, it would be to go. Instead of a restaurant with some ambiance music it felt like I was in a club. My head hurts even a couple of hours later. Finally, I agree with most comments that the food was on the pricier side. Lol. 2 Spinach ( the best I have ever had, Not greasy & you can see the good amount of spinach) , 2 Squash ( Perfection with cheese melted rite) , 2 Bean & Cheese ( tasted like Homemade beans) & 2 Revueltas ( Flavored Ground Chicharron meat mixed with beans & cheese) Pupusas at $3.50 EACH ( I thought was a little high/ But THEY ARE HUGE)!!!! I was looking for Salvadorian food and stumbled across this restaurant. My family and I walked in and were immediately told that they were not open even though the hours stated otherwise and they had signs on the restaurant saying they were open, they also said we had to wait around 45 minutes to place an order because they had just opened and the cooks needed time. I understand that the cooks need time but then just change business hours. Nonetheless the staff were super rude so we decided not to eat here and go find a better restaurant with people that aren't rude and treat customers with the courtesy of respect. read more
