Great service and quality! I come often for their lunch specials. It's very quick and healthy

    Surf & Turf Burrito. Huge!!

First time trying this place! Had a steady crowd so why not? Walked in and was immediately greeted by friendly staff. Love the open kitchen so I can see what they're making. I ordered the Surf & Turf Burrito, Baja style. Was a little worried about how many shrimp they'd give me, but I was pleasantly surprised by the plump shrimp! Carne asado was solid and they have a salsa bar! Burrito was huge and tasty!! And they have daily specials too. I'm definitely coming back soon!

We came here because my cousin DJSP was the featured DJ this Sunday, so I did my Yelp research and to be honest, I didn't know what to expect because the most recent reviews were a couple of months old, no recent food photos and menu photos were outdated. However we were going either way because it was also our featured DJ's birthday. We made reservations but that was difficult too as we called for several days until someone actually answered the phone. I was a little surprised because the food we ordered were all pretty tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The service was ok. Orders took a little time to arrive, but they made sure we had chips and salsa and with a full crowd and a limited number of wait staff, they made sure we were still being attended too. It is very loud here with a full restaurant of diners, the live DJ and football games going with loud cheering fans, so if you have sensitive hearing, bring some ear plugs.

Their moles are definitely worth trying. We've had the mole negro and the mole pipián, and both were delicious. The mole negro is a little sweeter, while the pipián has more spice. They also serve tortilla chips with mole, which is something I haven't seen at most Mexican restaurants. The reason I can't give 5 stars is because the service has been hit or miss. We've been here three times. The first time was shortly after they opened. The food tasted decent but came out cold, and the service wasn't the best. It was during the week and not very busy, so we figured they were still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. After some time, we decided to give them another try. We went on a busy Friday night and were seated right away. The service was much better and everything seemed to be running more smoothly. We talked with the owner who was working as well as his wife who was bartending. They were both really friendly, and the owner seemed genuinely happy that we came back after we told him about our first experience. He even gave my husband a free beer after we moved to the bar to keep drinking after we finished our meals to allow for other guests to dine at the table we were. There was also a trio playing that night which added to the ambiance and was a nice way to end the work week. Our most recent visit was a couple of weeks ago for my husband's birthday. It was during the week and once again they were short-staffed. There was only one waitress taking care of the entire restaurant. She was so sweet and hustling the whole time but she was also bartending while serving every table. We definitely had to pack our patience because she was doing the best she could. Overall, Sol 626 has so much potential to be a great spot. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are what keep bringing us back. They need a little more staffing so the service can be as good as everything else.

The service was also excellent. Our server Ericka was very kind and attentive, making sure our orders came out correctly and checking in to see if we needed anything else throughout our meal. I also really enjoy the atmosphere here. I've visited on Fridays when they have live mariachis, which makes the experience even better. We actually celebrated my grandmother's birthday here last year as well, and that was another memorable family celebration. Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

The gentlemen who greeted us were friendly, welcoming, helped us get seated quickly, and brought high chairs for our children. After being seated, however, we waited approximately 10-15 minutes before anyone acknowledged our table. When our server, Adriana, finally approached us, she did not introduce herself and came across as annoyed and uninterested in providing service. I actually had to ask her for her name. As for the food, my husband's lomo saltado was delicious and easily the best item we ordered. Unfortunately, my carne asada was extremely chewy and inedible. I barely touched it. The kids' meals (chicken nuggets and cheeseburger) were also disappointing, and neither child ate much of their food despite arriving hungry. The most uncomfortable part of the experience happened when it was time to pay. After receiving poor service throughout the meal, I left a small tip. Our server questioned the amount, so I increased it. She then questioned it again. I've never had a server confront me about a tip before. I explained that the service had been poor and that she appeared annoyed and disengaged during our entire visit. For a bill that exceeded $100, it was extremely disappointing that only one plate at the table was truly enjoyable. Between the poor service, disappointing food quality, and uncomfortable interaction regarding the tip, we will not be returning. I hope management addresses these issues because the restaurant has potential, but this experience fell far below expectations.

She was incredibly accommodating, responsive, organized, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect. On the day of our event, she and her team went above and beyond to ensure our family and guests were well taken care of. The food was, as always, phenomenal. I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.
