Good, affordable food! I was on the hunt for some pupusas and discovered this place near me. The waitress was nice and attentive and answered all of our questions. The interior seemed a bit dated and wasn't anything too impressive. The booth seating also felt pretty cramped, so I'd recommend sitting at one of the regular tables if you have the option. The food itself was pretty decent, especially for the price. However, we ordered the Super Plato Tipico and noticed that a few of the items that were supposed to come with it were missing. When we asked our server about one of the missing items, she immediately replied, "Your tamale? Yeah!" which made it seem like she already knew it hadn't been brought out. I would've appreciated it if she had mentioned that the kitchen was behind or let us know the missing items were still coming instead of waiting for us to notice and ask. Overall, the food was affordable and satisfying, and I'd come back for the pupusas. The service was friendly, but communication about the missing items could definitely be improved. read more

First off, don't expect the ambiance to be anything special. In fact, when you pull into the parking lot, first thing to grab your attention is half of the neon sign of the restaurant name has gone dark. For a second you think it's called "El Curt". Tthe interior must once be decent back in the 80s since the upholstery of the booths look like it was once an ihop. There aren't too many salvadoran places so if you crave salvadoran food this is probably it. i ordered the Bistek Special with plantains and my friend got the Plato Tipico (which comes with a variety of samplers to try like pupusa, yucca, etc. I think if it's your first time trying this type of food, it's probably best to order the Plato Tipico since it provides a nice variety. For the most part, the food was pretty good. Although, you do need to be okay with slightly tougher fried yucca. While tasty, make sure you have good quality dentures. The Bistek Special was also pretty good but it didn't offer the same type of true Salvadoran experience. read more

I had the chance to try El Curtido for the first time and it was also the first time I tried Salvadorian food! The place is a cozy local shop with very pleasant and nice staff. I ordered 5 pupusas total ranging from beef and chicken to cheese and spinach. The pupusas were good and comes with a fresh spin when paired with the curtido (pickled cabbage). The only downside is that they're aren't as filling as I'd like (I could definitely eat 8 of them by myself). I also ordered the atole de elote which was yummy. This was a corn hot drink that was made from scratch and had corn bits inside. Trust me it's a good one. I finished off the dining with Empanada de Platano which is like a plantain rolled into a ball filled with condensed milk. This was what was recommended to me by someone and if you like plantains then this should be a must try! read more

I happen to be in the City of Industry for work and i was looking for a place to have lunch. I was driving around the area and i spotted El Curtido. So, I decided to give it a try. El Curtido is a small sit down, family owned restaurant in an old, somewhat rundown strip mall on Gale Ave. They serve Salvadorian and Mexican cuisine. There is parking in front of the restaurant. The interior is really nothing to brag about but the food turned out to be really good. Their menu has lots of options (see attached photos). My buddy and I started with a Horchata. A traditional, creamy Mexican rice drink made with rice water, cinnamon sticks and sweetened with sugar and vanilla. It was really well made, well balanced and very refreshing. We liked it so much that we ended up both getting a second one. For food we both got the Carne Asada plate. The strip steak was grilled with a little char. It was tender and tasty. It was served with a grilled pepper on top, pinto beans, white rice and salad on the side. We also got a basket with 4 freshly made hot tortillas. The portions were descent, the service was good and friendly and prices are average. I was surprisingly pleased. read more

El Curtido has been around for over 20 years. This is not the kind of place you go to if you're expecting new, high tech amenities, but it sure does feel like you're with family when you're here. The staff are nice and incredibly accommodating. This is one of the few places out here where we can get pupusas made with rice flour, if you haven't had them that way you're missing out! Their pasteles are also great! They use shredded beef instead of chicken or ground beef. The yuca con chicharrón is fresh! Many places will use frozen yuca and you can tell the difference. We've been several times and will continue to go. read more

Their breakfast is also delicious. Been coming here for over 26 years with the family. Service is always exceptional. Waitresses are so attentive and courteous. The he ambiance has always remain the same they always have their music on with the TV on for customers. One thing I do miss and have brought to everyone's attention including the owner to bring back the salsa and chips she stopped serving after Covid. I have been coming here for 30+ years. It has been a staple in the city and a must place for pupusas for our family for a few generations. My great grandma came here, my grandma when she visits from El Salvador comes here, my mom and myself come here, and now even our nephews. One of the ladies who works there has seen me grow up since I was a baby and anytime we go there, she is always so kind and warm, always greets us with a smile, asks how we have been, it truly feels like family. Pupusas are incredible. The revueltas are my go to. They are a decent size, not to greasy, and their recipe has remained consistent. The plato tipico that has casamiento, platano, and a pupusa is my favorite plate as it has a little bit of everything. I can't judge anything else too much because I mainly come here when i'm craving pupusas. I always advise to stay clear of the Mexican plates because originally this place was only Salvi. They added the Mexican cuisine several years ago but even in the name El Curtido, you know it's Salvi based. The place is located in the corner of a small shopping center. Plenty of parking. Plenty of self serve seating inside. They have a tv that plays telemundo, typical of abuelita's house, unless their is a soccer game on. Photos of El Salvador and all it's beautiful landmarks are lined on the wall. It's a home away from home. Nothing grand but very special. Pro-tip: I call ahead to order food and advise them i'm near by and I will be eating it there. It saves time if you are in a rush. Failed to take pictures but this spot brings back memories for me. I called ahead to order a large number of pupusas. I was able to order in my awful Spanish, but be aware that it's easiest to be able to have some Spanish knowledge while ordering. I was told my order would take about 30 minutes, took closer to 45 but they were busy for lunch. Inside is on the smaller side, unassuming space. Food is delicious and nostalgic for me. I love all things pupusas, I tend to go for revuelta but I also love the bean and cheese. I'll make sure to take photos next time I visit. read more

The pupusas are always ready within 15 min if I call beforehand. They're freshly made and I always enjoy their great customer service. I typically order their chicharrón and revuelta pupusas. I've ordered loroco and it's good but can't taste a dramatic difference from the other two kinds. Their prices are great so this is my favorite pupusa place that I'm willing to drive out too... So even though my mom is Costa Rican I never really grew up eating pupusas [El Salvador & Costa Rica are both Central American so they have very similar foods]. I have had some, I think, but nothing really memorable until a few months ago. My wife and daughter had asked me to take them to LA [long ways from Hacienda Heights] for pupusas. I am glad I complied because it opened a new window of foods for me. We have been to this place in LA several times but my son reminded me that we have El Curtido right here in HH. So today I decided to try it. Overall thought is that it is very good. Maybe not as good as the place in LA [see my Yelp! Reviews] but still pretty damn good and much much closer. So here is my comparison: THE PUPUSAS [5 Stars (out of 5)]: slight edge to the place in LA but I have to say these were very good. El Curtido uses pinto beans while the place in LA uses black beans. Again, both get 5 Stars. THE SALSA[5 Stars]: again, this is basically tomato sauce. Central Americans don't typically use spicy foods so it always killed me when we ate food made by our Mexican family. The sauce here is tangy and tasty. THE CURTIDO [3 Stars]: and I'm being generous. The curtido is a cabbage & carrot mix [some people add onion or other ingredients] that is marinated in vinegar. As you can imagine, it has a huge impact on the taste. The curtido here looks like they used a coleslaw mix bag and put it in vinegar. Shouldn't be a problem but for some reason, it just didn't have the kick like the others i have tried. Still, it's not bad! I also had the fried plantains [platano]. This is something I have been eating since I was a kid. One of my dad's favorite things. We used to have them with cream cheese but as I am not vegan I had them plain but they are still delicious. I ain't gonna lie, I am kind of a coffee snob so I wasn't going to order coffee here but if you are going to have the platanos, you have to have coffee. And it doesn't take a lot to get Central Americans to drink coffee. I was surprised because the coffee was very good here and the waitress kept filling my glass. Which brings me to the service issue I have read on other Yelp! Reviews. I had great service but again, only 3 tables were occupied and there is only one waitress. She was pleasant and did a great job through the meal but I did lose her at the end and flagged her down when it was time to pay the bill. Don't know where she ran off but I would not consider it bad service. I could have gone to the counter and paid anytime. Can't wait to come back and try the yucca. read more

I've had pupusas for years...my sis in law who was and is still Salvadorean :-) introduced me to this delicacy. Savory, Sweet, and all in between. Flavorful masa with a nice crunch. I had the revuelta, chicharron and puerco ones and they were all great with the fresh crunchy curtido and salsa. They also have asada, queso and pollo pupusas if you want a safe entry point to the tasty dish. I'll have to try some plantains next time as the dishes I saw go by the table looked great read more
