The food itself is solid hot-plate Tex-Mex -- enchiladas, rice, beans, the usual suspects. Nothing life-changing, but it hits the spot if you're craving something cheesy and smothered. Prices are on the high end for what you get. In a town where $12-15 enchilada plates are everywhere, this place charges extra -- possibly for the privilege of wondering what the inside of the restaurant looks like while you eat lukewarm enchiladas out of a takeout box. read more

Don't eat here. Save your money and pick any other Mexican in town. Food is not good, stale chips, dry chicken, and greasy beans and rice leaves an oily film on your lips. Picked up to go order and it was missing the tortillas for the $16.50 fajitas. Called to let them know, and was told they were put in the bag for me, they insisted they already gave them to me, ...but if I "lost them" to drive back across town in a snowstorm on Valentine's Day for more... Came here on a whim, and this place did not impress. To start - the chips tasted bland and stale, and they came with a "salsa" that tasted EXACTLY like jarred pizza sauce. It was...just such a weird feeling to be eating chips with pizza sauce on them. And not in a good way. Then came the entrees. To be fair, my chicken tacos were ok. Nothing great, but not bad either. The tortillas themselves though were oddly greasy. Rice and beans were average and nondescript. Bottom line, I'd skip this place if I were you. Went here last night. I grew up in Colorado where Chile Verde burritos are a completely different dish- more flavorful and MUCH hotter. Never found anything like that in over 35 years in WA. Well, the Agave Burrito isn't all that hot, but the sauces are homemade and flavorful. The Pico was great and very distinctive- it had mushrooms! My wife had a cheese enchilada and a chile rellano and thoroughly enjoyed both. She also found the sauces flavorful and unlike anything else locally. My only complaint about the food was that the meat in my burrito was slightly saltier than I'd care for. I am looking forward to returning and trying out some of the other dishes at Los Agaves. No need to bother with any of the other Mexican establishments in Centralia anymore! Back again 12/1. Agave Burrito with pork in adobada. Best burrito in WA in 37 years. I tried this place based upon another yelp review & I am thrilled I listened! Finding authentic good Mexican food in the Pacific Northwest is quite a challenge and this place not only met that challenge, they threw in a bonus point by giving us a twist on Pico de Gallo (mushroom/carrot version which was really good). Our server, whom I suspect is either the manager or the owner, is extremely knowledgeable & personable. We watch people & it was fun to watch him interact and adjust to each table's needs. This place was hopping shortly after we got here with a table of 8 & a table of 15 ( in addition to the normal couples/families). He not only took care of his tables, he watched & directed the other server to ensure everyone was taken care of. The food was perfect. The chips you get are thick & crisp. I had the Carne Asada & the steak was cooked perfectly (our server told us the cook has been wth them for many, many years). My husband had Steak Fajitas. They came out sizzling and had sliced tomatoes in addition to the normal ingredients. He said they were delicious! Their traditional Margaritas were perfect (not too weak, not too strong). The only sad point of this experience is that they are too far away to visit on a regular basis. However, this will be our go to place anytime we are in the area. If you are looking for a great relaxing place to eat, look no more as this is it! read more

I've been here twice and it did not disappoint. I got my food to go, and still fantastic. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas (portabella and spinach) the first time, muy delicioso! Today was the shrimp fajitas. I found it a bit interesting the tails were still on. Makes for difficult fajita making, but that's ok, I just ended up eating the sauteed insides. I requested corn tortillas over the phone but ended up with flour, which I prefer not to have. So, that's the only negative comment I have. And I appreciate the chips and salsa appetizer. It's rare to get much of that anymore. But I will definitely be visiting again. read more

So disappointing! Ordered sangria and was asked if with or without alcohol....never been asked that. The sangria tasted like there was grape juice in it and no alcohol. They apologized and brought me a margarita that tasted like a bottle of mix and again no alcohol. Noticed as we were leaving they had a $5 special on margaritas but charged me $7. The pork was very fatty. Was charged $2 for side of sour cream (1/4 cup). Fair at best. Should have been a clue we were the only ones there and no one else showed up. Need to up their game. WOW! I consider myself a connoisseur of Hispanic foods. But this place blew me away. The menu has a great twist on classics like ceviche. Their red salsa has a great smoky taste with a big of zest to it. The chicken (pollo asado) dish that I had was nicely portioned. The meat had a nice dry rub and a great smoky taste. The lime and cilantro were not overpowering as in many places we have been. Prices are great and the wife and I had an affordable dinner from a great chef. Will definitely be coming here again. Things have slowly declined since they first opened which is very sad because I used to love this place but after the last three trips there we will probably not be going back. The last two trips there I asked for extra mushrooms and stated I would pay more for them in my dish but both times I never received them which was disappointing. Today I took my family there and it took over an hour to get our food, one of our people at the table never even got their food, we had to ask for it to go because everyone was already done eating and we where still waiting. So I find myself back here again. Their food is Flavorful and their Service is Wonderful ! We had their Spinach and Portabella mushroom enchiladas. They were delicious and very generous portion. We split the plate and walked away stuffed. They have a fabulous mushroom dip and their salsa is great. Total bill was about $30. The food was fresh, tasty & hot. Chips were crisp & served with both a salsa & a melted cheese sauce. I poured some of the cheese sauce on my rice, really liked that.
