This really nicely decorated Mexican restaurant with a charming, dog friendly patio features very tasty if not spicy Mexican food, prompt and pleasant service, terrific margaritas and a selection of Mexican beers. My father had the trout al mojo de ajo, I had the pork chops, and my wife had the chili relleno plate. Everyone was very satisfied with the portion sizes and the quality of the meal. After we had finished some business in Green Valley today we were famished and headed to Los Agaves for a late lunch. This place doesn't change: The Christmas tree and cheerful hostess greeting in the lobby, rolling chairs and wood paneling of the dining room, and the same refreshing Margaritas, not too sweet and not too tart. Chips and a mild salsa appeared immediately and were a welcome snack as we decided on our choices for lunch. We both selected the Chile Relleno and Spinach Enchilada Combo plate. The Relleno was stuffed with cheese and covered in a mild, delicious salsa. The enchilada was filled with spinach and covered in a tangy Crema sauce. Served piping hot with chopped lettuce and tomatoes, beans and rice on the side, this was a filling and satisfying meal. Our server was friendly and fast, with a beautiful smile. Just ate here with my family. The service was somewhat slow and the server wasn't very friendly, ,but the chips and salsa were yummy. We all ordered somethings different. The prices weren't too bad. The food arrived and my meal was somewhat salty, but my husband's meal which was fish tacos was very salty I had the enchiladas. The food tasted OK. The refried beans were kind of watery but nothing too impressive. The only thing that really annoyed me was when I ordered a separate plate for a side of rice and a side of beans and they combined it onto one plate, of course giving me less beans and less rice, but still charging me for each item. Came here on a visit to Green Valley and the food, especially the pork chili enchiladas, were so good!! The atmosphere inside is very well decorated and the staff is very friendly with quick service. They have a sweet but delicious mango marg (which is also HUGE) and the prices are very reasonable. There's lots of parking around here and caters great to those who are gluten free. read more

We met some friends at Los Agaves on a Sunday afternoon. There were 5 in our party. The restaurant was fairly empty at that time. One friend is diabetic and his blood sugar was low, so he asked for a coke and it was brought immediately. Our server, Rosy was not that attentive or very friendly. We finally managed to signal her to come take our orders. My husband had a chile relleno and enchilada with beans and his order was great. I ordered a shredded beef chimi and asked for melted cheese on top. I got some sprinkles of cold cheese. One friend ordered a chicken chimi and a side of guacamole. Another ordered the flautas and her husband ordered tacos, but what he got was something else and we couldn't identify it. Our server didn't come back much to check on us. I would have liked refills on drinks (we got one) but we hadn't seen each other for awhile and wanted to sit around and chat. There were only a couple of tables available so that wasn't a problem. Both chimichangas had little taste and the filling was dry. My rice was okay and husband's beans were good. I can't answer for my friends about their dishes. Our ticket was for 2 dishes and 2 soft drinks, $40 before tip. Not outrageous and more the norm. When we eat chimichangas, we usually take some home. My friend ALWAYS takes some home and she ate all of her chicken chimi because the portion was so small. My husband is a light eater and he usually has leftovers, but there was none to be had. I don't think I will return to Los Agaves, there are better Mexican restaurants around that the service is better and the portions are more in line with the normal. My husband and i had just finished a long hike in madera canyon and we were starving. We wanted hearty Mexican food and we found Los Agaves on google. It did not disappoint. The bistec had so much flavor and the beans reminded me of my nanas beans. The enchilada sauce is so similar to the enchilada sauce i use when i make my enchiladas so i was very happy. The service was quince and the ambiance was normal. Nothing too fancy. We liked the place more then the famous El Charro in Tucson. Best ribs I've had just about anywhere. So tender, so delicious. Their sauce is kinda heavy, so I always get it on the side. I usually ask for the baked potato and cole slaw as the sides. Also delicious. Ribs are only available on Saturday, so be forewarned if you want them. read more

We ate there tonight. I tried Tamales de la Casa, 3 tamales with a taste of rice and beans. The food was typical imitation Mexican food. What impressed us tonight was the bill at the end of the meal. My tamales mentioned above with a Negro Modelo beer, my wife's Enchilada Plate with a Coke came to an astounding $42.35 We decided that it is worth the 20 mile drive to In-and-Out. A breakdown of the drinks: 12 bottles of Negro Modelo at Walmart $17.52 = $1.46 per bottle. Los Agaves cost $5.75 I agree there are costs to operate a business but maybe $4.29 is a bit much. Coke can be broken down the same way. It's been nice knowing you Los Agaves but we've got to be moving along. read more

Let's start with the positives, the food was very good and the service was good. We have been coming here for years and always raved about the pitchers of margaritas. We brought some friends and told them about the margaritas. We all agreed they were the worst we had ever had anywhere. They were mostly ice. We talked to the waitress and she pretty much acknowledged that she got a lot of complaints about the margaritas, but they came prepackaged and there wasn't much she could do about it. I was with my parents house shopping. We had a late lunch while in town. We experienced a short wait. Once seated we were promptly served chips and salsa and our drink order was taken. It was a bit strange that the gentleman who took our drink order didn't know what flavors of frozen margaritas were available. The menu is huge and has a wide variety of Mexican, seafood and American fare. My mother and I split the shrimp enchiladas. There were three with rice, beans and lettuce. We were quite full.
