After a day of exploring Box Canyon, we made our way to Sonoita with the specific goal of trying out The Steak Out. We were not disappointed in any way. They asked if we had reservations, we did not, but that was not a problem. All types of folks were seemingly comfortable in this restaurant. I opted to go for the goal with the 32oz steak and I wasn't disappointed (and I had plenty for lunch the next day). The steak was flavorful and cooked exactly as I wanted it (medium). I've had plenty of steak in my day and this was the best steak I've had in quite a while. The service was excellent; she was attentive but not overbearing, and quite laid back. At no time did we feel rushed but on the other hand, at no time did we feel forgotten about. We had a magnificent experience across the board and I look forward to going back soon. The service is great. Food was excellent. I really enjoyed my lamb chops. My sister tried this Sonoita petite steak and my son had the prime rib. All of them served with salad and potato of your choice or the house beans. Stopped by here after the rodeo this weekend. It's a great steakhouse with indoors and patio seating as well as open seating at the bar. We ordered steak with a baked potato. We went to The Steakout to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This time I had the ribs. When they say a "whole rack of ribs" they weren't kidding. I was expecting the typical larger slab that restaurants usually serve, not the monster that I received. And they were incredible. Service is always on point. We sat in the other dining room where there is more light for us old folks. Hubby had the ground sirloin, cooked to his request. The salad they serve is always fresh and yummy. I didn't care for the baked potato so I ordered the fries. I prefer smaller, thinner fries, but they were still good. I concentrated on trying to work my way through the ribs. There were more than enough to take home and had them for dinner the next night. This time I had the Yuletide Mule which was vodka, cranberry juice and orange juice. We eat at The Steak Out at least once a week. The Petite Strip Steak is really tender and delicious. My favorite side is the batter dipped onion rings. They are awesome! My husband loves the baby back ribs with a loaded baked potato. All the servers are friendly and pleasant. We mostly get our meals to go. read more

The service was great very attentive. The location is fun. It is very loud in the restaurant even though we were in the fireplace room. I had the steak sandwich which I think may have only had about 4 ounces of steak for about $19. The steak was cooked properly medium rare. The steaks are really good and each time I've been there they've been cooked to my liking. It gives you that raw steak taste and you don't need any added seasoning of your own. I know this area harps on cowboy beans and they say you have to have them which is a meh for me because I don't care for them. However, some of the other sides are really good and filling. You'll have leftovers. The salad is crisp and fresh but simple which is nice. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Sonoita! read more

I admit that, among the many things I have reviewed here on Yelp, steak is not something where I'm an expert--this was actually my first time ordering steak anywhere other than an Amtrak dining car or a national park lodge. But unsurprisingly given that, it was also the best steak I've had. At my genuine rancher cousin's suggestion I had the ribeye, and it was (1) super tender and perfectly marbled, and (2) cooked perfectly, with a medium that was still pink the whole way through. Huge portion for one person, but I managed. The "ranch fries" were pretty good--basically crispy potato wedges. And while nobody goes to a steakhouse for a salad, the salad was...not great. The tomatoes were not the freshest, and while the croutons were nicely crunchy, I found the dressing too creamy. read more

But, if you go for the steak, you won't be disappointed: always cooked to perfection, favorable and tender. Much better than I can buy at supermarket. I've been coming to The Steak Out for years, every time I am in Southern Arizona. The Steak Out is consistently good throughout the years. Beautiful steaks, cooked as specified on mesquite wood, served with a salad and a choice of sides. It's rustic charm is always appealing. On Friday and Saturday's, they have live entertainment. While it can get loud, it is always enjoyable. The steaks are large, so come hungry or split one. Service is good, attentive, friendly-- just perfect. The full bar serves the best margaritas in the county. Bartenders are friendly and know how to fix your cocktail--just tell em what you want and you'll get it. Went with a group of 6 after visiting a camp site, and it was nice to have a good old steak. The menu can be a tad bit limited, but we were able to also add a side of the sautéed veggies which made for excellent variety. Steak was juicy and delicious, service was polite and casual. I've driven past this sleepy restaurant many times. It's set back a bit off the highway between the Sonoita Inn and the gas station at the big intersection. We finally decided to give it a try and it looked pretty busy for a Sunday night. We were promptly seated and saw this is where the locals go for a proper drink and a meal. Great atmosphere and ambience, not a tourist trap and the folks there weren't "drug store" cowboys all fancied up. Service was prompt with a young lady that knew how to handle men! The menu has quite a blurb at the top left corner talking about world famous margaritas and secret recipe salad dressings, so I told her I wanted to go with the plan, which I did. The marg was OK, the salad quite good and the Sonoita filet phenomenal. Do check out the case of meat as you enter because you can see the relative sizes of each of the different cuts of meat offered. Then when you see the menu, you can figure out that the Sonoita filet is a bargain and a decent sized portion. There is a petit version that's an even better deal because the full Sonoita filet portion is actually quite a big cut for many and the petit Sonoita filet is still ample for most folks. Everything is cooked over mesquite and the smoky aroma appropriately infuses the meat. I asked for my steak blood rare and am usually disappointed by most restaurants with either blue raw or overcooked pink. Well, check my posted photo. That bad boy was bleeding pretty bad. Perfectly cooked to order and perfection. I was impressed, plus it was promptly served after we finished our salad. It was straight from the grill and hadn't been stewing under a hot lamp. Great execution and timing! There was a young local guy playing acoustic guitar and singing a wide range of new and old country favorites. He did a great job and best of all, you could have polite conversation with your table without being drowned out by the music or having to yell. This made for a really nice meal. I really liked this place and while not cheap, it was reasonable and good value. The bar is old school and huge, but is separated from the dining room so noise in there won't tend to disturb dining guests. I'll admit I was on the fence about eating here based on mixed Yelp reviews but I'm really glad we did eat here. We had a reservation and were greeted fairly quickly but then when we were seated, it seemed to be taking a while for a server, and we were told it might be a few minutes, which is normally fine, but there really weren't many occupied tables. And since we enjoy dining at the bar anyway, we thought we'd give the bar a shot - and at the time, basically nobody was seated at the bar yet anyway. Sydney was our bartender, and she was VERY good. Because of her, we ended up having GREAT service at the bar. She was not just quick to greet us, and friendly, but she knew the menu and certainly knew her drinks as well. Her timing was really good in terms of checking on us and refilling drinks and everything. My wife and I are pretty high maintenance, and I could understand it if we didn't really appear to fit in with the crowd, although this place does draw a mix of locals and tourists / wine enthusiasts, but we were certainly treated well, and I appreciated that. We enjoyed taking to Sydney as well as the great service she provided. That's why we like to eat at the bar, it's a more interactive experience, let alone that food came out quickly as well. I really did enjoy the steak here. I got the T Bone. It was hot, cooked to the temperature I'd requested (medium well), flavorful, juicy, and came out at just the right timing after the salad (which I thought was quite good as well). I'm not kidding about the salad, I was surprised that it was as good as it was. And the baked potato was great, too. I'm sure other people had different experiences than we did, but for us, this was very good food, great service, and a fun dining experience. I see no reason not to return here next time we're visiting Sonoita/Patagonia area. read more

Ambiance- Better than some of the pictures on Yelp or Google would indicate. Lobby has a nice smoky scent to it when you walk in. Many times there is a band playing starting at 6PM. Service- Consistently good. We have been here about 4 times and get good service all of the time. Food- The steak. Steak out has better tasting sirloins compared to the other chain steak houses in Tucson. This is the thing you go here for. The steaks. They do not give you any free carbs. No chips, no bread. You have to pay for what the other steak houses give you for free. Here is my beef with an item that you probably will order. Their baked potatoes are worse than Texas Roadhouse's or Longhorn's. Consistently dry and flavorless. Not sure what the chains know to do that The Steak Out does not, but be prepared for a dry boring baked potato. If you goop it up with butter and sour cream you probably will not notice however. Desert. They have some kind of a mud pie that has booze in it. I think 3 kinds. It is to die for. read more

We spent the day at nearby vineyards. It was my 40th birthday and we came to the nicest steakhouse in town. When we arrived, the music had just ended so we missed out on that. Liz was our server we ordered a Ribeye and Filet accompanied with a baked potato. Everything was cooked perfectly, and came out quick. We also shared a bottle of the 14 Hands Cab. I ordered a pecan pie which came warm, but the highlight was the way Liz presented it. She knew it was my birthday and she brought it out with a sparkler on top. Omg. How bad can a service team be. After waiting 10 min to be seated we were told there was only availability at the dirty glass covered bar. We sat on the incredibly uncomfortable metal bar stools and waited and waited and waited and waited and waited to helped or even the dirty dishes in front of us to be cleared. Our second visit to the Steakout was a fun time with a group of eight. The steaks were great - cooked to perfection, athough small for the price, I feel. I'll start by saying this- we are locals and come here a LOT. However, tonight was a little different and I was compelled to leave feedback. The food here is always amazing. I was VERY happy to learn that they are now serving Prime Rib not only on Wednesdays and Sundays. It was a Friday night-I ordered the prime rib while my husband went with the 12 ounce ribeye. Cooked to perfection. Everything from the salad to the sides and meat was outstanding, as always. However, the live music they had for the night was lackluster and distracting from the overall experience. While the Steakout usually features all sorts of musicians., these were off-key, and just not very good at all. We are used to hearing good entertainment while here. That just wasn't the case. In fact, if we had known before coming, we would have came on another night. It was that bad. It really did affect our overall experience. Toni our server was great and prompt .
