You don't get a great meal or enough of it for the cost. 2. Servers are personable and helpful. 3. There are food preparation and cooking deficiencies based on our singular experience. In one instance, these shortcomings were not resolved. 4. Not a great dining option for offerings in this category of dining. But as is the case with so many restaurants in waterside settings, it appears this place captures a service area absent completion and enjoys the benefit of this market context. This restaurant presents in a waterside setting on Smith Mountain Lake. Many customers visit by boat or by car. The menu is expansive and presents plenty of offerings including Vegan section, and it is easy to read. Our party of four stopped in for dinner. This place was full and the staff was slammed with work. Three in our party did not report a favorable dining experience. The shortcomings in offerings all revolved around lack of quality. This highlights a deficiency with the cooking staff. One order of Carne Asada was well done even though the order specified medium rare. The staff handled the return quickly but, both deliveries did not feature flank steak but rather some off cut of rough sub par steak. An order of Mushroom Quesadillas ($18) presents as two thin folds of grilled mushrooms with a modest serving of chopped lettuce, tomatoes and onions on the side. For the money, a customer would be better off to stay at home, chop up and grill mushrooms, place them in a grill top wrap, and save money. A third entree was so off putting that one member of our party barely ate any of it. Of note are the House Margaritas. They present in oversize stemware for $14 and three in our group enjoyed. We won't return. **Fraud Alert: We paid for our portion of our meal with a credit card and left an 18% tip. Several days later, we received a fraud alert from our bank asking if we intended to leave a 31% tip. I called the restaurant and they quickly reversed the tip portion of the charge. The question remains, how and why was an extra 13% tip added to the bill? I asked the young lady who answered the phone this question and she was unable to answer it other than to speculate an employee entered the numbers into the point-of-sale system inaccurately. Our tip was $15.05 -- 18% of the total bill. The tip amount charged was $25 -- 31% of our bill. Standard point-of-sale systems today do not allow a separate charge to a point-of-sale transaction unless there is a management override. When there is an override, the charge must be allocated to food, the bar, or some authentic category of cost. WATCH YOUR CREDIT CARD BILLS AFTER YOU VISIT THIS PLACE! In our case, there was no way an employee could have transposed $15.05 to $25.00 since the digits differ. read more

We've been coming to this restaurant for years, and we always order a queso fundido to start. Historically, it came in a large bowl and they happily brought us more chips to eat it with. Today, the size of the bowl was considerably smaller ($12 bowl of cheese and sausage, mind you) and no chips to eat it with. They looked at us funny when we asked for napkins. We had plans to eat a meal, but quickly decided to just finish our drinks and go. This place is off our list for good. UPDATE: In response to the owner. Incredible view of the lake with great food and service. A key and symbol representing gluten free options and you can make any food gluten free on request, which was very helpful because I have Celiac. Staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us refills without even asking. The view of the Marina was incredible; you could gawk at the cool boats and fling food off of the dock and feed the hungry fishes. Los Amigos has become our favorite Mexican restaurant in Virginia. We had lunch on the patio this week and it was excellent as per usual. I tried the burritos pastor this time which is what my mom had last time and it was humongous and delicious. My dad got the La Playa salad and he really enjoyed it. We love the chips and salsa as well, and the service was great. We will probably be stopping by one more time before we venture home to Michigan! read more

The view- amazing! The service - kind and friendly but a lot of errors, and a dangerous one at that. I ordered an original lime mojito and the mint was slimy and old, and did not look appealing. I took one sip and was hit with the taste of coconut. Who puts coconut in a mojito? I prayed it was artificial flavoring as I have a slight coconut allergy. Unfortunately a few minutes later the roof of my mouth got bumpy and I felt my younger tingle. Needless to say I didn't drink more than one sip. Thankfully I do not have a severe allergy or they would have had a nice ambulance visit. I ordered the zucchini and chicken, which came with a side of rice and beans. It came out and there was no rice and beans. I mentioned it when she comes back to the table and at first the waitress thought I wanted to buy another side order of rice and beans. Eventually I got my point across that I didn't get what I ordered. Instead of just bringing me the side she took my meal back and remade it. So I sat there without food and finally got my meal when most of my group was done. I would have liked to have the chicken and zucchini that first came out to eat while I waited for the rice. This restaurant sits at the crazy horse marina and is perfect to boat over to and have lunch. Their jumbo margaritas were so good I got the frozen strawberry and it was delicious. The chips and salsa were a perfect table starter and for my meal I got the fajita burrito with steak. The burrito wasn't really wrapped so it was more of a fork and knife situation, but it was super tasty! Our server was quick, friendly, and the outdoor seating was great. I used to love this place. And I still love the view and convenience. But they've added a 3% fee for using a debit or credit card. This a BS fee in the year 2024. Simply charge what is on the menu (or add a cash discount) instead of adding fees and putting 1 or 2 signs up. read more

Been here twice since they changed names. Would give them 4 stars since the food tastes good, but they often miss ingredients or are out of ingredients. They also tend to give pushback when we mention the omissions. Last year salmon tacos came without avocados, mango and sauce. After some effort we got sauce but they were out of mango. This year we tried again and got salmon tacos, again they came without avocado or mango. After showing them the menu describing the tacos, they gave us some avocado but we're out of mango. Again. Mex burrito came with no pico and no, or almost no, guacamole. It doesn't seem too much to expect food to match the descriptions and, if they are out of key ingredients, to let us know. This little place was such a great find even thought it's off the beaten path. There's indoor and outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the lake, and if you're lucky a live band playing outside by the marina. The food was fresh and tasty. Good food and service on a surprisingly not busy Saturday night. I felt the portions were small given the exorbitant prices. From the many reviews and complaints about prices, I was not surprised but disappointed. Even for waterfront prices, I thought it was too much. It's no wonder they didn't stay open more than a couple weeks over the winter this year. Expect at least 30% more than the other Mexican restaurants at the lake. I guess the organic food and drinks make it worthwhile to keep them in business but $141 for a party of 3 is just too much. The $15 margaritas that are $9 or $10 everywhere else put it over the edge. Same with the extra charge for spicy salsa. Does it really cost more for hot salsa? I'm pretty sure we're done here unless it's a special occasion trying to impress guests with the view. I'd be inclined to return if there was a non-organic option to give us the option to save a lot of money for food that tastes the same. No need to reply explaining the high prices. I get it. It's just not for everyone at the lake. I'll take my family another 5 minutes down the road to save $30 - $40 on dinner. read more

We've been coming to Los Amigos since it opened. In general, the food is good (maybe could focus on more authentic Mexican and less American/Tex-Mex influence). Location and atmosphere is great, service is usually good (although we avoid weekend evenings now). Only thing stopping a 5 star review is the lack of transparency on pricing. Yes, I saw the long explanation, previously; so prices have increased and they don't want to reprint the menus. They could stick the new prices over the old ones, though or they could have a blanket statement on the front of the menus that prices have been increased by $1.00 or $2.00 until the food shortage abates. I appreciate their staying open year round and hope they continue to do so. read more

My husband and I researched Los Amigos before going there last night for dinner while on vacation. Food looked good and the reviews looked good, so we gave it a try. The margaritas were huge but weak. At $15 each, I didn't taste much besides the juice and mix. There was not much alcohol in them in my opinion. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer. It was really good but presentation was messy and nothing like the photo. The tuna was barely cut and everything was thrown on the serving dish. We had to ask for small plates as well, which is upsetting that they were not brought with the dish. Chips & salsa were complimentary and the salsa was good. My husband ordered the steak fajitas and I ordered the shrimp mojo dish. My husband's fajita dish was huge! It would easily serve him for 2 more meals. However, they only give you 3 fajitas with the dish and then charge you for extra. Weird. My shrimp dish was more moderately sized and it is enough for me to have dinner tonight. There were 8 large shrimp in the dish. Overall, we are glad we tried it and it was a nice break from all the other bar type food around. read more
