First time coming here and all I can say never again!. I ordered the Fajitas De Bistec. Skirt Steak in translation. The steak was drowning in oil. The Nopales were rubbery and also oily. My partner ordered the Burrito carnitas. Not oily but no flavor. The rice and beans no flavor. The Bulldog margarita was just ok, according to my partner. Our server Maria was fine. But when I told her the steak was drowning in oil, she went to the cook and we heard the cook saying is the way suppose to be. No courtesy exchanging my plate or making the customer feel welcome. I put the steak in another plate to see all the oil in the pan and took a picture. Do not recommend this restaurant, as their food is not authentic Mexican food. This Mexican Restaurant is amazing. 100% satisfaction. Perfecto The food is delicious. I have been here 3 times already and plan to continue returning whenever I am in the area. The Margarita is large and perfectly made by our wonderful server. I order the torta con huevos y chorizo, all 3 times because it's that good. I rely on my dinning partner to order different things. Though I will begin to venture through their menu. There are many things to choose from. My guy has ordered the enchiladas and Picaditas so far. I of course have a few bites and everything is amazing. Though I will admit my 2ed time I ordered French fries and they were a tad over cooked. Nonetheless I still ate them. My torta is perfect each time. The service is 10/10! From start to finish the experience is everything you could hope for. Our server is so sweet, she always has a smile on her face and very attentive, making sure we are enjoying the time. Ambiance, is also everything one could dream of when eating at a Mexican restaurant. The music fits perfectly to the atmosphere and food. Everything just fits right. Located under the El on 31st in Astoria, this clean but cozy, dark, and loud establishment is like any good Mexican restaurant should be. My family and I came for lunch today, as some were first-timers, and we had the whole place to ourselves. We were greeted by the staff and seated promptly with Mexican wall decor and music blasting. We all decided on the combination platter, which was accompanied by Mexican rice and refried beans. Nacho chips with salsa started our meal. I decided on my hibiscus tea (agua de Jamaica), which was refreshing. The presentation was impeccable; however, sadly, they lacked savory seasoning. Mehh the food here I would say is mediocre. It's unfortunate because it's the only Mexican spot close to where I live but if I had other options I would definitely check those spots out than come here. This place is like a last minute option for me. The service here is wonky. They are nice but not attentive; we had to flag them down every now and then to ask for more water. I got the carnitas tacos which was yummy but very greasy. I ordered three but two would've been just enough. My bf got the vegetable burrito with rice and beans but wasn't satisfied. The salsa here is amazing, so you'll want to get more chips so that you use up all of the salsa. It's also the perfect food to have after a night out drinking. Who says Astoria doesn't produce quality Mexican food? Los Amigos is easily one of Astoria's best in the area and some of the best Mexican I've had since I've moved here in New York. Though not everything is perfect, its still better than most of the Mexican fare that is in Manhattan, which depending on where one might be from may not be saying much. Some of the positives that are worth mentioning right off the bat: good prices, portions, and food, open late night (till 3AM), takes credit card, and has some speedy delivery. With a $20 or more on a delivery order, they also will lump in a free 2 liter bottle of a soft drink of your choice. It's almost too easy to miss this place. The dated "Los Amigos" sign isn't the most visible due to the constant construction near the subway and the dark green (a la Mexican flag) is hard to distinguish as it blends into the neighboring bar as if it was one big operation. From the door, the restaurant's interior looks a lot bigger than it really is. The semi-cheesy Mexican decor is evident from the full service bar in the front all the way into the elevated section in the back. The place can still make room for groups of 5-10 and the semi-open kitchen is uber tiny. A jukebox is available for those who want to rock out the joint and it happens to be one of the new ones that can actually download songs from the internet. Food is good here just simply depends on what one might decide to order. They're one of few Mexican restaurants to serve Picaditas, Chorinachos, Mojotes, and even Entomatadas (special only). I think their tamales are some of the freshest I've had in the area with pieces of pork that can flake apart with a flick of the fork. Other favorites include Burrito de Huevos and Chorizo and the Enchiladas de la Casa. However, they also lack a few things that I think most good place should have like Horchata (ugh) and good salsa. The salsa they serve to folks at the tables is far too watery and is a real downer appetizer for folks who are expecting something better. Whether this is seen as a plus or a minus is one thing, but most of the times I've been here the majority of the patrons were Hispanic. Speaking Spanish to the waitresses here is far more useful than English, as a few of them have confessed to me that their English is not strong. read more

Had to chase the server down for water because she was too busy chatting with the other server and she made me feel bad like I was bothering her anytime I needed something. My quesadilla was meh and had Parmesan cheese I think? Very weird. My boyfriends dish however seemed much more appetizing and filling, he got a chicken dish with rice and beans. Not good for any allergies, we had to take a chance on the refried beans - my boyfriend is celiac. Coming from a background of predominantly speaking Spanish family I understand the language barrier and lack of understanding of what gluten is but when we were asking about the ingredients the waitress didn't even try to ask the chef about it or assure of anything or offer gluten free items. I hadn't been here for many years and upon entering last night wondered if the place had changed. Despite the hipster trends all over Astoria, this has remained-Los Amigos is still the most authentic Mexican restaurant I have ever eaten at. It looks like nothing at all from the outside, even a bit sketchy. But upon entering, you are transported to a little Mexican hole in the wall. There are only two girls on the floor for the tables and it's a Tuesday night but these same two girls are bussing the tables, packing take out orders, answering the phones and making the drinks. As a result, the service was slow. Once she came over and we ordered, the food came out fast but we couldn't get her for quite some time at one point. But seriously, you don't come here for the service, you come for the food! Los Amigos is a delicious place to grab Mexican food if you're in Astoria, both by ordering or in person. It's conveniently located at the base of the Ditmars stop and opened late into the night. They have some of the most tasty tamales if you ever have the craving. The chicken mole is probably what a ton of people really like from here and I'm definitely one of those people. The portions are all very sizable and offered at very competitive prices. If you don't like it, this place will make you a fan of it. The only issue I've had was I dined in one late night and no one spoke any English (I really should get on learning Spanish)...anyways luckily I was with someone who could speak. So given that there might be some communication issues, but the great thing are the staff are so friendly and accommodating that they'll put up with all the hand gesturing and pointing. So lets start with the fact that I'm from Texas and I know the real definition of an authentic Mexican restaurant. Which this place is not! We ordered Chicken Fajitas with rice and flour tortillas. Our waitress (pregnant lady) was the most rude person ever and didn't even let me finish placing my order before she started walking away. Not to mention that her greeting to us was "Que van a ordenar?!" ("What are you all going to order?!") The taste was bland and we knew right away that the tortillas were not homemade but store bought. That's not what a Mexican restaurant is supposed to do. At least not back in our place. The salsa looked more like a soup. We walked right out that door within 5 minutes of getting our food. We had to give away our food to a homeless person because we don't like throwing away food. Then we placed our order (after hunting down our server) and it quickly came out. I wish they warned me that my enchiladas was incredibly spicy but figured it was an honest mistake. When I'm really craving Mexican... And I mean the good stuff, I come to Los Amigos. High value, quality , and service. I always post pics of my favorites dishes on Yelp, but as you may tell, there are none here. That's because I can't wait to dig in! A Tecate, chips &salsa, and a couple of mixed tacos sends me strait to La La Food Land. I'm a big fan of their flautas, burritos, tacos, and a number of their combo dishes. Be sure to get guacamole on the side or as an appetizer. I like the side of peppers you can get too if you ask :) among other great food qualities, the oil they cook their food in never upsets my stomach yet still offers full flavor! One of my favorite parts of this restaurant is that you can't search "Mexican food" on google and find them. They don't offer online menus OR ordering. But don't be scared to call, they'll happily answer and take your order and have it delivered as soon as possible. They by pass the low brow advertising and save you a buck on your beer. This was fantastic, kid friendly, I would give it 5 stars but I'm being stricter with my 5's. This place was great! I'm no foodie, or Mexican food expert. I was advised to go in and order of the combo list , I had #4 ($11ish)have no idea what I was eating, it looked fantastic and tasted even better. But first we had the Mexican Shrimp starter was a MASSIVE bowl of cold soup and really good ($5ish). The meal came quickly after, Stuffed! Couldn't even try the rice and beans. But I had to have the flan desert, also really solid but the Cherries on top overpowered it. Sangria! Ohh yes! $15 for a half carafe, Bingo! Margarita, $7 was good and strong Lemonade $2 was limeade really and very watery. The kids $6 meals was large enough for two kids. It was a great experience. I can't wait to dig into the full menu. We had a large party & were seated right away once seated we started with some drinks, I had a Strawberry Margarita nice big size this was good. For the table we had Chips & salsa not bad & some Guacamole good as well. Food tried the Botana Grande this is a good appetizer to share or have as your meal as one did comes with Flautas, quesadillas & Nachos all pretty good. I'm a native Astorian and I'll admit I avoided this place for years! I'm not sure why, maybe the fact that they don't really have an online presence (they're not on seamless, etc) and they always seemed not very busy.... however I was so wrong!! The food here is delicious and so reasonably priced! I love their combination plates and enchiladas. Their mole sauce is so good, rice and beans are so tasty and the portions are great. Here's the story on how our $28 bill turned into $47: I went with a friend to have social distanced drinks. We each got a double vodka soda. We ask for the bill, the server brings us a shot. Awesome! Free shot?! Nope... when she brings out the bill, we're charged for the shot, the seltzer water that was our mixers, and the chips & salsa. We disputed this for about 15 min. She pretended to all of a sudden not understand us, which I've seen as a trend in these other reviews. When another employer came into the picture, the server told her that we ordered the shots.
