I had high hopes for this place because every time I pass by it's busy inside. Went there after an appointment around 2:30 PM on a weekday and they had a study stream of takeout & delivery workers going in and out. I actually wanted their combo ($12) taco platter (3 tacos, Rice, Refried beans), but the choices for the tacos were chicken, pork, beef. The other combo that looked interesting was a beef taco, chicken fajita, and something called a sincronizada (ham & cheese pressed between 2 taco shells), & rice & beans. But their iPad system didn't have that (even though the paper menus did). I probably could've just ordered it with the cashier. I got ($13 Total) two tacos, beef tongue & al pastor ($4.50 each) & a side of rice ($3). The portions were very generous, and the first few bites things tasted good but a few more and I noticed that everything lacked flavor. The beef tongue was the best item, there was a salty sear on one side, but the pieces weren't as tender as other restaurants'. Maybe it was frozen and he didn't have time to defrost it? The al Pastor was chopped up meat bits with NO flavor. The pineapple and onions were nicely, finely chopped, but I didn't even finish half of these tacos. The rice had peas, corn, carrots, and string beans & big fluffy grains. At first it was tasty, with maybe hints of bullion and tomatoes; but after a few bites, it started reminding me of cafeteria rice & had a bit too much oil. It seems like a popular place, a mom and her kid came in for tacos after school, local workers and contractors who seem to know the staff and delivery guys, came in for their lunch. Maybe I didn't order the right items, or these type of tacos are more popular on the weekend. I also wonder that since I'm not a local or of the background, there isn't as much care put into my food. One contractor yelled "China! [cheena!]" to the staff as he walked in. Was I supposed to respond "Mexicanos!" LOLZ. I hope they do well though they seem like a neighborhood staple. read more

Great place to eat 1 block walking distance from broadway train station. There are about 4 tables inside this "deli" like restaurant. Taste is great as well. The only qualm I have about this is the disproportionate pricing with inflation (ie: tacos are cheaper than tostadas). Also, when i paid using the machine, I paid taxes as well. They offer service through the apps, or you can walk right in to order. I've tried a few things here and never been disappointed. The tacos are huge; I like the chorizo and the al pastor. Burritos are solid as well, the typical New York style loaded with rice, beans, lettuce, and your choice of meat. Make sure to drizzle some salsa on top, and grab extra napkins for when you inevitably make a mess. TLDR- rating this a 2.5, my experience was pretty mixed. They were nice, but food took long and didn't taste worth the price. From what I've read online, and the vibe of the store, I was expecting a quick-and-easy taco place that served cheap, yet tasty dishes. I didn't get that, although it is possible I just ordered the wrong things (although I feel like I picked quite common ones). My food took about 10 minutes to get, with me being the second of two customers in the store. I didn't mind this aspect too much, as they were clearly grilling up my tacos fresh as I watched. However my combination of Al pastor, bistec, and cecina tacos was really disappointing. For $3.75 each, I found them to be pretty bland and *needing* the salsa. For comparison, there are so many places in Astoria or even Manhattan that I've had, that charge less than a dollar more, for a significantly higher quality. Great food! Workers provide great service. I do recommend ordering ahead of time because most of the time they are busy due to how many orders they receive. The ambiance here is very welcoming and the music is top tier with a mix of old classics and newer music . A simple plain unfancy Mexican food joint in Astoria that's worth the visit cause food is good and food is not pricey and they give you plenty .My cuz likes this joint and he took me here for tacos and burritos which I like as well. We grabbed a table near a bunch of giggling bimbos who where on tik tok and thank God the lady came over with our feast .The decor is plain but nice and bright with plenty of tables and they keep the place very clean .The chicken tacos with sauce on the side was filling enough for me. Small hole in the wall that does good Mexican food that's not overpriced. Huaraches and quesadillas are great for price and portions. Sauces are on point, if you are lucky to visit on the weekend they have specials such as menudo, pozole, and barbacoa, they are worth every penny. This is what home Mexican food is. The only thing that could be better is more salt on some of their proteins. I love this place. Only thing is they only have a few seats. The tacos are filled with protein that is seasoned just right and comes with all the right topping. The cemitas are huge with wonderful fillings. They also always have specials which is also always good. Last time it was chicken tortilla soup and it was quite tasty. They also have our favorite drink...grapefruit Jarritos. Just check to make sure they are open because once we came and they were closed for soccer game. I handed the employee at the register a $20, and she crumpled up the receipt to throw away and gave me back $3.00. I questioned her about the change, and she repeated that the bill was $16.33 and looked at me like I was stupid. I questioned it again and she finally decided to open the register to give me the extra change, with no apology. I came by for dinner last night and i usually only order tacos, tostadas and quesadillas. However, tonight i was in the mood for a chicken and mole; so i ordered the meal which comes with mexican rice, a small portion of shredded lettuce and 4 enchiladas. I am happy to tell you the wife loved the tacos al pastor, my daughter had a steak quesadilla which was huge, the tongue taco did not have a lot of taste. We wanted chicken tinga but they were out of it. The mile was a bit bitter, although it was seasoned well in my opinión it was too thick and could have benefited from being strained a bit more so it could have a smoother consistency. Clearly i can see all the spices that were added to the mole, it lacked a bit of a hint of sweetness either from peanut butter or sugar. Mole is such a sensitive sauce that if you overcook it, you can instantaneously damage the sauce. I will say this, i am staying away from mole at least the one they make here; since it lacks refinement. The best mole i had so far was at another restaurant in sunny side called "de mole" that place has excellent enchiladas verdes and mole. However their tacos are just ok. read more

Holy moly, I walked by here last week and it looked like an honest to God hole-in-the-wall taqueria. Now, for those of you unfamiliar with what that is, it's basically like a dive bar but for tacos, burritos or tortas. No fusion, no high falutin 'infusions' or creme fraiche. Just thin tortillas, stuffed with well seasoned meats and some veggies. The bonus of this place is that it's good-probably the best Mexican I've had in New York. The guacamole is good and plentiful, coming in a big tub and big plate of fresh made chips coming in under 10 bucks-which is probably some of the best value guac wise compared to other places. One avocado mixed in with small pinch of cilantro in an impressive but shallow stone bowl doesn't make for good guac. The tortas also come packed and it's hard to hold onto it without it crumbling under its own weight. The chorizo was well done and you could taste the flavor as the big chunk of avocado mixed in with the other veggies. The milanesa was flattened out and crispy which was practically spilled out over the edges of the soft, tasty torta bread, The burrito which-can easily be split by two very hungry people-or 4 small children is under 7 bucks and with a Jarritos it's a feast for under 10 bucks. What an amazing find in Astoria! Very low-key restaurant (small with only a few tables), with good, fast service and fantastic Mexican food. We tried the $7 huarache al pastor (spicy pork with beans, lettuce, and cheese on a ginormous corn tortilla). This was so huge it actually was served on two plates to hold it all in! The $7 burrito was also the size of a human head and was fantastic - jam packed with meat, beans, rice, sour cream, lettuce and tomato. After such a great experience at Los Tacos at the Chelsea market, we decided to get tacos in Queens. Sadly, the experience was not as rewarding. Still delicious and probably better than any average taco stand but the visit at Chelsea market spoiled me. The pork lengua, beef and chicken tacos were all delicious. A bit of lime, cilantro and onions. I can imagine this being an amazing late night snack. The guac was smooth and blended. I would have preferred chunky and fresh. While I prefer the trucks by the 7 in Jackson Heights, this is a comfortable place to eat and pretty authentic. The chicken was completely bland and had no flavor, and the rest of the meat all had a sour taste to it--and no it was not pre-limed, it has the sour taste of almost rancid meat which made me uncomfortable. The ingredients of the asada taco and burrito al pastor were fresh and generous. Good small business with hard-working people who'll go out of their way to get you what you needed. I had my order to go and they packed a little coffee cup of salsa for the road. I noticed a chef prepping fresh veggies in the back right before lunch hour. Always a good sign. I'll dine in and ask for a spicier salsa next time. Also, I'm finding a pattern with NYC Mexican food that the salsa tends to be pretty bland, and the structural integrity is lacking -- the burrito tends to fall apart toward then end. read more
