My sister and I were in Green Bay for a short time and ended up having dinner at Los Banditos. Seemed to be a pretty typical sit down Mexican restaurant with quite a decent selection of items on the menu. They do offer complimentary chips and salsa, which I don't know that many restaurants continue with anymore, so that was definitely nice. My sister went with the chimichanga, which looked delicious, while I went with tacos and vegetables. I liked the addition of cheese to the top of the veggies. Overall, like mentioned it's a pretty average Mexican restaurant and I would probably try it again if ever in the area again. read more

The atmosphere of this restaurant reminds me of an old fashioned diner in which you would find mobsters or the god father. It's dimly lit but feels warm. The service was good and the lady that helped up was friendly. My husband and I both ordered the tacos that were on special which were good, but nothing that made me say wow! My son ordered the chicken fingers with fries and he said they were delicious. My daughter ordered the nachos and said that the chicken was a little dry but it was ok. The chips and salsa were good and the salsa has a smoky flavor to it. Their ice tea was AMAZING!!! It was stronger than most places make it and it that wowed us. The beef, whether in a chimichanga or a taco or a burrito, is amazingly good! Also amazingly good is the fried cod, which can be had in a taco. The complimentary chips and salsa are very, very tasty! The atmosphere is very nice thanks to low-volume music and dimmed, red-tinted lighting in the dining room. The staff is wonderfully accommodating and pleasant. Drink specials on Wednesday and Thursday are top-notch! And I have yet to mention the Mexican rice, which is delectable!!! Thank goodness this isn't a traditional Mexican restaurant, serving traditional Mexican fare; the Los Banditos menu is a fantastic offering of improved-upon Tex-Mex dishes!!! This place has stood the test of time and remained true to itself. We first started going to the original location over 30 years ago! We have since moved so don't get a chance to come back often, but when we do we enjoy every minute. We sat at the bar and ordered a carafe of strawberry margaritas. I don't normally like sweet drinks, but these taste fresh and perfect. We love their chips and salsa. The salsa has so much flavor. For dinner, I preferred the taco special which were chipotle shrimp and hubbie ordered his favorite- the cart driver. Everything was right on point and well seasoned. Worst Mexican food (even American : Tex Mex) I have ever had. I was honestly in shock. The tamales were rubbery and the enchilada sauce was literally marinara sauce. The rice was soupy and wet, and my sister said it tasted like school cafeteria food. The pinto beans almost tasted like baked beans, and the chicken in the enchilada had no seasoning or flavor. The shredded beef was the only thing that tasted mildly normal... Our server was great and the pomegranate margarita was decent but overall I was so appalled at how busy this restaurant was. Came here for my birthday lunch today. When we walked in we were promptly and warmly greeted. One thing I noticed right away is it smelled like they may be having issues with their plumbing, or it's the fact the flooring definitely needs to be replaced, so I was pretty grossed out right away. Lunch menu was weird. There were 3 items on it. A burrito del mar (ewww no). A nacho salad with no meat, and one, oh yes one fish taco. Just have a lunch menu every day, each day doesn't need only 3 options. We Sat for 10 minutes with no service at all. 4 other tables occupied, and only 1 had food & drinks. They were setting up a large table for a group that wasn't even there yet which I found really weird since any time I have asked if I could reserve a table for a group I'm told they don't do that. Anyway, 2 waitstaff passed us without saying anything and the 3rd person continued pouring waters and getting chips for the group that had yet to arrive. I come here for dinner quite often (and have never smelled the nasty smell in there before or I wouldn't go back) , so the night staff knows me and knows I tip well so they never ignore me. Apparently the lunch staff didn't care. I'm sure the large group came with an 18% guaranteed tip so they were getting great service even though they weren't even there yet. Even though I come here frequently (which after this visit will be changing), I don't like their salsa at all. It's more like thick chili paste mixed with water- it's just odd and not good. We opted to leave and go to chilis next door. If you want service and lunch, I suggest you do the same. Pretty embarrassing to suggest this for my birthday lunch and then have to leave, but I did have great drinks and food somewhere else. Portabella mushroom taco is worth a try and the cart driver special is always good. Decor is typical of most Mexican restaurants, it is not loud east to carry on a conversation. I live close to this location and the quality of food has not aged well over time. The margarita was okay it was a small serving which lacked flavor. The tacos came piping hot but the steak was overcooked and grisly with really large chunks of onion. I did have to ask for hot sauce for the tacos which helped with the dry meat but could not save the meal. Salsa served was the best part of the meal it was spicy and blended well. Chips were less than good crisp but stale in flavor. I am sad this location used to be so good. I will go elsewhere for my Mexican fix. read more

WAYYYYYY off from all the other times I have eaten there. Waited at least 15 minutes to place and order, too many employees standing around clueless and talking about crap like fantasy football. Had the unfortunate experience of watching a male employee yell and swear at a female employee extremely loud near customers (same individual who felt the need to explain his fantasy football or whatever experience to a new struggling employee at cash register). Got home and the calamari was not the same as before, not uniform in size and some very chewy and overcooked. The tamales SUCKED!!! smothered with sauce and cheese and beans either inside or on top. Walking into it, I smelled fake strawberry candles, weird record as if it was a supper club before turning into a "Mexican restaurant" and old 90's music playing. I ordered the chicken chimichanga with rice and beans while my husband got a beef taco, chicken taco and beef chimichanga (Don't judge. He was reeeeaaaally hungry). The dinner started off with chips and salsa. The chips were cold and the salsa hot. Unfortunate. I liked the chimichanga but the refried beans had a strong, unfamiliar and sort of off-putting taste to them. The Mexican rice was really good and probably what I enjoyed the most. My husband liked the tacos but he wasn't impressed with the chimichanga. Maybe the most disappointing aspect of the entire meal was the guacamole. It was like the processed guac you buy at Walmart. It did not, in any way, shape, form or taste resemble anything made from fresh avocados. I mean...I expect generic guac from Taco Bell, not a sit down legit Mexican restaurant. The prices are reasonable and the employees were friendly, especially the hostess. I don't know- we're far from the border and good Mexican food may be hard to find out here so I can appreciate the effort and in a pinch we may give Los Banditos another whirl but until then, the search for good Mexican food in Green Bay continues... read more

Only had the con queso, which was different (it didn't come with chili in it for some reason), it is a huge bowl so good for sharing. It does have a velvet texture though with a unique flavor.
