While the restaurant serves excellent tasting food, it is the bar on the north end of the restaurant that we found amazing. It was the highlight of our experience (other than the actual wedding we attended). The selection of fine liquors was outstanding, as was the expertise of our bartender. Great ambiance! I would not recommend this restaurant at all. We were seated right away, but then waited 20 minutes for a waitress to even acknowledge that we were there. We were not even given menus. When she finally came to the table she gave us menus and took our drink order. Then she vanished again for another 15 minutes. She finally took our food order, and told us the bartender was swamped and will get to our drinks as soon as he can, but the place was almost completely empty. Our tiny salads came, but still no drinks. The dinner came along with the drinks. The steak was way overdone and tough. The Ahi Tuna was supposed to be sliced, but it must have been cut with a fork, it was basically shredded, along with also being completely overcooked. Again the waitress disappeared, and we didn't see her for the rest of the meal. We went out to the person that seated us by the front door and had to ask for our bill. I told him what we went through, but we were not offered any kind of discount or compensation. My advice... find somewhere else to have dinner. read more

This restaurant usually provides a great place for a family dinner. It is decorated nicely and the service is very good. Visited with a group of nine adults for a Thanksgiving get together today. We discovered after the fact that everyone's dinner was lukewarm. We all should've spoken up to report that the potatoes and dressing were fairly warm. This was a frustrating experience, definitely on us too all speak up and send it back to the kitchen. read more

First off a huge shout out to this staff for giving us excellence service even though we were practically the only guests there that late. My husband works for the Post office and extremely long hours, so if we do get to eat out it is always after 8pm and many places close up early or close at 8 on the weeknights. Often we are treated as nuisances at establishments instead of guests. But not here. Alley was great, the bartender was attentive. The kitchen took the care needed to prepare our dishes beautifully. read more

The wait staff was friendly but we got our menus a bit late. Otherwise our waitress was great. Also, the food was cold for myself, my girlfriend and another friend. There were 9 of us and I was busy talking to a friend , so I didn't know about the other party member's food being cold until after we left. My girlfriend said her chicken and ribs were both cold but she didn't want to deal with it at the moment. Another friend's onions and mushrooms were cold and something she ate was overly salted. My steak was warm but my mushrooms were cold and they gave me fried onions instead of grilled onions. Otherwise the atmosphere is pleasant and the establishment is clean, but food is the main reason to go to a restaurant. I doubt we will go there again unless my friend celebrates his birthday there next year. If that happens, I will get a hamburger or something that is easier to make and hopefully will be hot. I don't want to spend too much money on cold food again. Tips: 1. Keep your food hot 2. Don't put so much salt on the food. 3. Take plates off the table when people are done, especially large parties. (2 waiters served us) From reading other reviews after posting mine, I see this is a common theme. People miss the good food the Rock Garden served. Sounds like you are losing customers, long time customers. Try to get it together so you are successful. No one wants to hope they hit you up on a "good" night. If I wanted to gamble I would go to the casino. read more

Friendly staff. Super tasty food. Had a few meals here over the weekend and all I would order again. I likely will too, since I can't remember what I had. Call it excitement. Call it hunger. For whatever reason. This Caesar salad & the lemon drop booze was all I managed to capture this trip. Everything was so good though. Promise. Hand sanitizers are out and masks are being warn. We went here for Thanksgiving brunch since we were going to the Packer game that night. The brunch was very good. The variety of food along with turkey and all the fixings made it worth every penny! The service was great and she helped us with whatever we needed and in a prompt manner! It was packed and we had to wait an hour but it was well worth it a very nice place inside to dine. This was our first time trying 1951 West. Called a day ahead to make reservations and was told they only take reservations for groups of five or more. We arrived on a Friday night at 6:30 PM and it was busy but they brought us right to a both. They have both tables and booths. The decor was very nice and upscale looking. Staff was pleasant and attentive. The menu had a very nice variety of sandwiches/ wraps to nicer dinners with steak and seafood. We didn't go all out this time because we had a show to attend after dinner and a heavy dinner would've been good so we had the black bean burger and French fries. Normally I'm a steak and seafood guy but the spicy toppings on the black bean burger was fresh and excellent. The fries where very good too. The wait was a little long of which they apologized but they were very busy when we arrived and may have been overwhelmed. It happens. The only negative I saw was on the dinner menu. All steak, fish, everything including the daily specials were listed as "market price". You would literally have to ask the price if every dinner entrée if you wanted to have an idea what it would cost you. I've seen this before on select items like fresh seafood but never on Friday fish fry specials. It was good enough to try again but the pricing thing gives pause. If we do a dinner in the future ( which I would like to) and It is worth the "market price" I will give a higher rating. read more

They have excellent holiday brunches! They book up quickly, so make reservations. They have wonderful steak dishes. Sriracha cheese curds and bruschetta are my favorite appetizers. The shrimp Cobb and broasted chicken are also family favorites. They have a wonderful Bloody Mary bar with plenty of things to fill your Bloody with. They also make excellent martinis! The service has always been wonderful and that's why we keep coming back! read more

I love their Sunday and Easter Brunch, however, I would like to see a few more side items added. Such as, cooked mushrooms, chopped onions and a creamy cheese sauce which added to the buffet adds additional flavor to the dishes they already have in place. We are elderly and disabled, so we rely on delivery a lot. We place an order for ourselves and our daughter's family. Oder came with 32 entrees missing and another completely wrong. Have frequented this place for years. Unfortunately like some places it seems to have gone down hill since 2020. Food quality has gotten way worse. Just went there last week and my mother got food poisoning from the chicken salad. I used to love getting the sesame ahi tuna. Some times it's come out cold. They have implemented a 3% credit card surcharge, something I do not agree with, especially in these times where restaurants are fighting to get customers back. Waited to be greeted and seated despite it being very quiet for a Friday night. Were seated at a table covered with salt, which I scraped off myself. I understand that staffing is an issue everywhere, but if you're expecting people to return, a clean table is not too much to ask. Probably the best brunch I have been to in Green Bay in forever. Everything is fresh and just so good. I could sit there and eat that eggs Benedict all day... same with the Mac and cheese! I think the omelet bar must close around 11am because it was done when I got there around noon. However everything else was so amazing I will definitely be going back multiple times in the future! We went to 1951 with friends who made the reservation. This was one of their go-to restaurants because they are very accommodating of the wife's food allergies/needs - one of being low/no salt. She ordered her meal with no seasoning or salt. However, the chef/cook(s) made up for her lack of salt by overloading the other dishes. I am usually one who adds salt to my food, but not this time. The French onion soup was over salted, as were my Gouda Mushroom Mac & Cheese (delicious flavors, but too much salt), the chimichurri that came with my lamb chops (salt overpowered the chimichurri flavors), and the seasoning on the grilled asparagus. The 3 stars were going to be 4 stars because of the great flavors of the dishes, but the salt level. The 4th star was deleted because our friends and my husband ordered Grasshoppers, which usually comes mixed with ice cream. I opted for the Chocolate Martini, instead. The Grasshoppers were more ice and whatever, and little to no cream and creme de menthe, although they were very green. The comment from our party who had ordered Grasshoppers was that there was not much alcohol, and that they were basically blended ice. Our server, Leah, was a rockstar. After the Grasshoppers were pooh-poohed, she graciously ordered replacements (we were not charged for the faulty grasshoppers), and came back to report that the bar was out of ice cream. The bartender should have told her that when she put in the order, rather than to try to pull off a replacement. Again, our server, Leah, was great.... the service was not an issue at all. It was the kitchen and the bar tender that caused the loss of 2 stars. read more

I love this place! I have been here quite a few times. It's perfect for a get together. This is a restaurant in a hotel so a little confusing if you are new to the Green Bay Area. They have nice banquet halls if you are looking for bookings. The staff is really amazing and very thorough and thoughtful if you have questions. The food is really good. I have tried different things and it's all reasonable priced. Dining room is big so plenty of space for it to feel intimate or if you want to have a pow wow with girlfriends. Last night we attended an event the restaurant was not properly prepared for waited 40 minutes for the food we had to turn away as we only had 17 minutes to eat and the restaurant closed as this event ended unfortunately, I have to tell you I ordered the Ahi tuna dinner that looked so good but we would have gotten sick eating that fast. I want to give a very special thank you to Nicole for keeping the chef after closing to feed myself along with others that were in the same situation. Not only did they feed us, stayed late and the Ahi was to die for delicious, you turned a bad experience into a very thankful person not only did they go above and beyond it was on the house. My family had a very, very terrible experience at the hotel restaurant. We were staying at the hotel connected to this restaurant and the menu looked good so we decided to give it a try seeing as it was very convenient. We walked in and the restaurant host gave me an odd look up and down which was rude, and we were all dressed nicely so it was strange. She seated us and acted very annoyed that we were there. We sat at our table for 30 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. Waiters went to other tables right by us 2-3 times and never said one word to us. We got up and left. Our 4 year old daughter ended up crying asking why no one cared about us and that she was so hungry. Extremely disappointing. read more

Went to this restaurant with a party of 7 for a holiday reunion. We had a waitress named Lacy. Lacy was the worst waitress I've met. The hotel food was mediocre. Lacy was huffy, impatient, and acted a bit rude to the elderly in our party. She let my water get low for 20 minutes. Half our party food was cold. We complained and they brought us some more cold food. We gave up after that. The chicken tasted like it was from the grocery store. The bison burger tasted like a $2 frozen beef burger. Growing up in Green Bay, we have visited 1951 (Rock Garden) for as long as I can remember. I believe they opened the year I graduated High School. While I realize restaurants tend to be short staffed with the current situation, that's no excuse for serving food that's beyond it's shelf life, spoiled, or improperly cooked. One dining partner received a prime rib sandwich and said the meat had a sour smell and tasted bad, indicative of spoiled meat. It also appeared overly dried out. One bite, and he could not eat another. Waiter agreed it smelled off. My pan fried Walleye was partly spoiled. Two orders of baked chicken, one dark, one mixed, were incorrectly plated with the wrong sides. One chicken order was made as the kitchen was out of Porterhouse and T-Bone. This is on a Wednesday early dinner hour. Liquor (bourbon) selection was rife with "outages." The waiter was attentive, accommodating, and polite, despite the kitchen mess. 1951 has lost future dining dollars from 5 long time Green Bay residents. read more

The food served definitely sat for some time before coming to the table, most of it was not hot or even warm. My plate came some times after everyone else's and it was still cold. The shells on the muscles were cracked or broken and many weren't even open. The shrimp were over cooked. They took it back and said they would remake the dish and obviously just microwaved it and sent it back. We love a microwaved 24$ seafood dish :) the tables around us were sending back plates all night as well. Overall not worth the price of the dishes, a lot of it looked like food served at church or an old folks home. Wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a nice place for something special. 1951 West is a solid restaurant and bar. They have a meat heavy menu with some good vegetarian options. This is a fairly large restaurant, but service is okay. Bar service is also solid. Service is reasonably quick, but due to the size of the restaurant, it makes sense to order a soup or an appetizer, especially if it's crowded. read more

I ordered a Peach Cooler; thought it was on special for $5 but was charged $6. It had no peach taste, just cold and icy. For my entree, I chose wild mushroom ravioli and it was quite good. My dinner companions ordered tuna tacos, a burger & broasted chicken. For the chicken, the menu stated there was a choice of potato but she wasn't asked what she wanted, just served fries. The same friend thought her Amaretto Sour tasted minty. Lastly, there were small plates on the table so we expected bread but didn't receive any. It's a nice atmosphere and conveniently located in the hotel I stayed in. My meal was good so I'd try it again. read more

Stopped in with my grandpa and husband for dinner Friday. We were promptly seated by the waitress and she brought us waters and coffee for my grandpa. Extra points for leaving him the coffee carafe. I ordered the fish & chips Friday special. What I was served was almost comical. I was served 8 pieces of large haddock which is way too much. This came with some French fries. The French fries were mediocre could have been cooked longer. The fish was outstanding though. Lightly battered in beer batter the haddock was outstanding in flavor. The fish was flaky and paired well with the tarter sauce. Due to the huge portion size I had plenty of leftovers to take home. The restaurant itself was more upscale looking on the inside and had a good ambience. I will stop in again. read more

Six of us arrived at 10a this morning for their Sunday Buffet Brunch. We were all duly impressed. Broasted chicken, tenderloin tips, mashed potatoes, gravies, popcorn shrimp, scrambled eggs, eggs Benedict, 2 kinds of hash browns, waffles, French toast sticks, biscuits and gravy, sausages, bacon, made to order omelet station, chocolate tower, fruit, desserts, coffee, juice..and that's just what I can remember... They probably had even more. Everything was hot, plentiful and cooked to perfection. Coffee was strong. Waitstaff was pleasant, efficient and quick. Well worth the 15 bucks per adult price. We had reservations and arrived at 10a. It was not overly crowded. When we left, 90 min later, the place was packed with at least 3 groups of 8+ waiting for tables.
