7/5. My server was Melissa V. She was quick, polite, amazing, and helpful. I would recommend her, personally, because she was the best human, and made my lunch experience even better. I've been a server for forever, and Melissa talked just the right amount, was knowledgeable about the menu and kind of just tells you what's up in a bossy way that I respect. She knows her sh**. My food was so good that I didn't know what hit me. It's one of those places that you shouldn't indulge in the chips and salsa because your entree will blow your mind, and you'll regret not having more room in your stomach. We got that big bowl of Carne Asada for $29.99, which is a higher price, but you could share it between 4 people and be happy.....way too much food for 2 people, but I say that in a grateful way. New to Amarillo and looking for some local faves. Of course, I take to Yelp. This place is easy to find. I think it could use some exterior updating. Cozy inside. The staff is very sweet and tentative. I got El Pastor soft tacos and my husband fajita torta. Never had pastor with the pineapple. I didnt care for the pineapple but it was still delicious. For some reason people were parking right in front of the entrance even though there were tons of available spots. The salsa is so fresh and I really like that each person gets their own little cup, you don't have to fight over the salsa bowl. Carne asada tacos- awesome flavor! Chicken enchiladas with green sauce!! So so so good. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sauce was unlike anything I've ever tried. Rice and charro beans! I could've eaten a mountain of them. Al pastor taco- I couldn't even take a bite of it. It was the greasiest thing I have ever seen. I was so surprised when the waitress brought it out. We're passing through from the Dallas area, and decided to stop for dinner. Best decision we've made in a while. The Carnitas Tacos were quite possibly the best tacos I've ever had, the perfect balance of char without being burnt, and so flavorful with Salsa Verde and lime. Our server, Juan Jr, was so welcoming and kind. He even brought us two free El Pastor tacos just to show us how good they were. (And they were great as well.) Definitely not what I expected. The iced tea was extremely weak - more like water. They re-brewed the tea and then brought a stronger batch to us without ice, served warm. The avocado on my husband's meal was so brown he wound up removing it from his plate. It just wasn't a good experience and didn't taste great either. Maybe it was just an off night? My friends took me to this place because they told me it was the best Mexican food they've had in town. We went there for lunch and were seated immediately. It was not too busy but not too slow. The seating area is pretty roomy and not crowded. Our waiter was very sweet and welcoming. He was very helpful because it was my first time being there. He explained everything on the menu and told us the most popular items that people try. I ordered the chicken enchilada plate with rice and beans. They tasted very authentic and not like the usual Tex-Mex enchiladas you would find anywhere else. I ended up coming here again a few weeks later and had the chicken chimichanga and it was even better than the enchiladas. I liked the chimichanga better because the tortilla wasn't soggy, it was crispy - which tasted better to me. I would definitely recommend trying this place out! read more

Maybe the best fajitas I've ever had! This is a nice, casual local place with great food, service and prices. I ordered the fajita trio for one with garlic shrimp, adobo pork and chicken. I think the menu was misprinted because it should have said fajitas for three, there was so much food. The shrimp and pork were excellent, the chicken very good but not as unique as the others. Others in our party had carnitas(excellent) and enchiladas with mole (very good). Our server was super friendly and attentive. We don't get to Amarillo much but will definitely hit El Bracero when we're in town. read more

Seriously good. I grew up in south Texas and have had lots of good Mexican food but this was among the best. Fast delicious Mexican food. They were packed when we arrived but got a table right away - they turn tables very quickly. They immediately brought chips and salsa with the menus as soon as we sat down and the server came to take our orders very quickly too. Food arrived very quickly despite how busy the place was. The salsa is really delicious. Spicier than most restaurant salsa. Tastes like homemade salsa fresca. Good chips too. I had the seasonal pozole soup. The broth was hot - literally and figuratively. Red and spicy and super hot temp. It was delicious although some of the meat chunks were a bit tough. No biggie because I'd filled up on the chips and salsa and the amazing cheesy tortilla crisp that accompanied it. One of our party had the beef quesadilla. It was huge and yummy. He devoured it only stopping to exclaim how good it was. "The fajitas were among the best I've ever had" another dining companion said. "The tortillas were THE best." read more

Amazing Texas style Mexican food. Great salsa, queso and margaritas. Prices are very reasonable and I usually have enough leftovers for the next day or I get 1-2 tacos a la cart and queso. One of the only places you can get cabrito, lengua, Barbados and quail. La parrilla for a larger group. Vegetarians have several delicious options with grilled veggies, beans and rice. read more

There's plenty of Mexican restaurants to choose from when you're in Amarillo, but I'm glad today we chose El Bracero. And I have you Yelpers to thank for it. I saw the glowing reviews and had to try it out. We started with the Nachos Con Carne ($7.50), which was very different from any other kind of nachos I had ever had. Instead of a mound of chips covered in lots of stuff, it was like, 10 big tortilla chips, each individually layered with fajita beef and LOTS of cheese. It's also served with sour cream and guacamole on the side. Let me tell you - these were AMAZING! But don't go ordering this unless you've got someone else with you. Its way too much cheese for one person. I had about 3 before I started to sweat nachos. For my entree, I ordered the Plato Michoacano ($8) - meat and cheese enchiladas that are served pancake style, topped with two fried eggs and served with rice and beans on the side. It sounded really interesting! I had never eaten enchiladas any other way then the traditional "rolled-up" way, but these were delicious. Break the eggs and the yolk runs all over this thing and watch out, cause it gets MESSY. Delicious.. but very messy. This place is small and unexciting from the outside, but it's rather charming on the inside. Only holds about 50 people, but service is quick and attentive and prices are very reasonable. If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine, look no further - El Bracero has you covered. Food was not good at all. My drinks were flat. And the worst part is the waitress was very rude and in one of our drinks had a fly in it. When we notified her it seemed like it bothered her and there was no sympathy no apologies. She even stopped serving our table. Being from Arizona, I'm used to eating authentic Mexican food. I came here on a recommendation and was not expecting much at all. But I was in for a very pleasant surprise! Don't be fooled by the runned-down outward appearance, this place has some pretty good food. Plus, I can't ever turn down free endless chips and salsa. :) I got the 3 Crispy Chicken and Beef Tacos on the $7 Lunch Special Menu. The portions were large and very filling. WOW-this place really impressed me! I was in town from Dallas, and my boyfriend had heard about this place from a co-worker. I'm not the biggest fan of Tex-Mex, but this changed my mind. I ordered the Pastor Tacos after seeing the photo on another review. They were outstanding. Very flavorful, moist, and well-balanced. You can tell the meat is quality, and is marinated. They do come on corn tortillas-so if you prefer flour make sure you specify. I added shredded cheese on the side, and you can tell that it is hand-grated! So hard to find that. Boyfriend ordered a Steak Meal, and it was phenomenal. Straight up fire. I'm from Cali, we have some of the best authentic mexican food and this one can compete with the best. My usual experience with Texas mexican food is Tex-mex and mexican food with gravy sorry but that is not close to mexican. I'm Mexican my self and a great chef and I say this place really is good! I've been coming here for years ordering the 16oz red and green sauce with two bags of chips. The price has always been 4.99 for each sauce and it came with chips. I go in there today and they tell me that their prices have changed and now it's 5.99 each and chips cost 1.99 a bag. So now I'm having to pay $6 more just to get what I usually do. This price is way beyond what inflation would be. I spend hundreds of dollars at this establishment every year. I come in at times once or twice a week. I have never had a problem with management here, they have taken care of me over the years, but with these price changes I just can't justify coming here anymore. It's a sad day for me. I've been begging my husband to go here because .. (1) I've heard of the positive reviews from several other locals (2) the parking lot is ALWAYS busy The restaurant is easy to find & has plenty of parking. This place is a HIDDEN GEM. The dining area looks and feels like you are in someone's home. It is smaller than I expected but the flow of traffic wasn't bothered. My family and I have been to this location a few time and every time we have had the same waitress. We love the genuine service given by her. Food is made fresh, including the salsa. Of course you receive a basket of chips and salsa when you sit down. Deciding what you want is the most difficult choice at that moment, I looked around and every plate was beautifully put together. Both times I ordered the fajita plate. Next time, I'll have to venture to another plate. I want to try everything out on the menu! I can't wait to go back. Had a fantastic meal! The shrimp was fresh, large, properly deveined and very tasty. $3.00 margaritas were lime infused and very refreshing after a day in the hot sun.
