About 2 weeks ago as my family and I Were on our vacations making our way to Southern CA from Kentucky we ended up hitting a coyote early in the morning 29miles from Amarrillo Texas. We ended up staying at the Days inn in Amarillo for 3 days. One of those nights we visited Mimis restaurant , I got the chile relleno plate 2 tacos and a horchata and it was DELICIOUS . My husband got the gorditas plate and that dish was also delicious. The horchata and the red salsa are on point. Bomb authentic food, for sure I recommend . Oh, they also sell goodies . I bought a Loteria game!!

Authentic Mexican that was amazing for a hole in the wall place! Pineapple soda was a nice treat too! I got the chicken tacos their were 4 plus rice and beans and my husband got the gorditas which were amazing!!! We are driving from Kentucky to California and stopped for the night and Mimi's was just around the corner from our Hotel.

Don't be put off by the modest curb appearance. Inside you find--not Tex-Mex--but authentic Mexican food.

Mimi's Restaurant in Amarillo serves cubanas, tortas, huaraches, sopes, gorditas, flautas and more authentic Mexican food. It stands sandwiched between a Subway and a Burger King on Ross Street north of I-40. Looking a little like a Mexican diner, Mimi's inside emits the atmosphere of a small restaurant in Monterrey or Hermosillo. You order standing at the counter then choose your seat at a table or booth. A juke box plays traditional Mexican music, including polkas and ballads. Mimi's serves domestic and imported soft drinks and beers. We particularly liked the Mango beverage and the Victoria beer. Driving north or south on Ross Street from the Interstate, you can choose from multiple franchise places--Sonic, Taco Bell, Arby's, KFC and several other national fast-food chains. Or you can enjoy Mimi's hand-made and real Mexican food--not Tex-Mex--but authentic Mexican.

I ordered a pambazo and it was delicious, it tasted very good. Customer service was great! Very unique little spot, I'm only in town for a couple days but definitely coming back before heading out.

I really enjoyed the tacos I ordered...pollo, asada and barbacoa. The chicken was my favorite.

We had the Juevos rancher and carne asada taco plate. Delicious! The refried beans were spicy and yummy.

Visiting my girlfriend and her family in Amarillo led me to trying some of their favorite places in…read morethe city. My girlfriend's mom was especially excited to take me to El Tejaven while I was visiting. This dinner was a celebration of my girlfriend's sister playing in the top All-Region orchestra. It has nothing to do with the food itself, but I want to mention it because she did a great job performing and I think it deserves to be remembered here. It is the reason we went in the first place. It was a busy night at El Tejaven before we arrived. A group of 32 was just wrapping up dinner. Thirty two people. At that point, just cater, dawg. It took about 20 minutes after arrival to get seated, but it likely would have been much quicker if it were not for a group that size. Once we were seated, we were served chips and salsa. The salsa was spicier than I was prepared for, but it was good. The chips were excellent as well. Most people at the table ordered margaritas on the rocks, while I got a dressed Dos Equis on draft. From what I tasted, the margaritas were solid. For appetizers, we ordered the small queso and the small ceviche. The queso was standard but good. The ceviche, on the other hand, was exceptional. I could have eaten a large bowl by myself. I was pretty hungry, so I ordered the Orden de Tacos, which comes with four tacos on corn tortillas. I got all of them with al pastor. I also added a side of rice and beans, which normally comes with the three taco order but can be added on for the four tacos. The tacos were very good and exactly what you want from street style al pastor, especially with the cilantro and onions. It comes out to roughly four dollars per taco if you do the math. The rice and beans were both great and I ate all of it easily. The plate also came with a side of guacamole that had a nice kick, which I enjoyed. Living in Austin with family in San Antonio, it is easy to find good and authentic Mexican food. That does not always seem to be the case in Amarillo, so it is nice to know there is at least one spot in the city that feels authentic and not overly gringoified. My girlfriend's family knows ball. We were brought individual flights of salsa to go with the chips. My michelada hit the spot. Was it the best? No. But it scratched the itch. I couldn't decide on what to eat. Until I saw green chili stew and asado. I moved away from Midland in 2015. You don't really find asado away from West Texas. The music wasn't too loud and the lighting wasn't too bright or too dim. Overall, we enjoyed our meals. I'll likely stop back in the next time I'm in town.

We ordered queso and they brought us a little cup because they were out and said they weren't going to charge us for it. We ordered our food and it took forever to get to our table and both of our dishes were cold. We advised the manager that it was taking a long time and she said fish tacos do take a while, but they were also cold. When I told her my food was cold, she took my plate and said I guess you want me to take this from you, asked my friend how her food was. My friend said OK but my tacos are cold and she said she'll comp her meal and then I was brought a ticket for just drinks. No offer to fix anything or get us hot food. The waitress even said they put the avocado on the wrong plate but didn't offer to fix it. I will not go back
