We decided to stop by this place while on a road trip. The reviews looked good, so we thought it would be a great choice. Plus, it's minutes away from the Highway. It's a big spacious restaurant. We were seated promptly and brought some warm chips and salsa. Salsa was good. Chips were basic. Service was prompt. The food was just ok. The chicken enchilada verde was quite good. The chicken was moist and seasoned. The verde was a tad bland, but the chicken was seasoned so well that it balanced out. The pork tamal was drier than the Sahara desert and basically inedible because of how dry it. The pork had a strong flavor of raw chili. The tamal is a hard pass. The refried beans were watery. The rice was bland. The pollo tropical was bland. The portions were actually small, but we did get lunch portions, so they were expected to be a little smaller. The prices were good. Our whole ticket with drinks was under $30. I likely wouldn't go back because there was an overall theme of a lack of seasoning in the food. read more

Authentic Mexican food for the most part. Service is always good except when they ran out of power and everybody ignore you. Restaurant is clean and decorated like other generic Mexican restaurants. Food is good, meat is tender and service is pretty quick. I never had any problem with the quality of their food. Portion is pretty big too, there are cheaper Mexican restaurants near Charlotte but for a small city like Statesville, it is pretty good place to eat. read more

We had an excellent dinner date last night at Los Compadres. They had Modelo Negro on tap (!) and made a super good Skinny Margarita. Their salsa was some of the best we've ever had. Slow burn spicy, but not too hot - just right. Chips were good and fresh. Hubby had the Burrito Deluxe (1 each chicken and beef) and I had the Carnitas de Puerco (pork), both delicious. While traveling from NC to VA on I-77, we decided to stop for dinner in the Statesville area near the Interstate. As we had our dog with us, we needed outside dining. This restaurant exceeded our expectations. Fresh guacamole made just before serving, the Texas fajitas were great, service was quick and excellent. Our server brought water for the dog,and the outdoor dining area was quiet and comfortable. Menu options included very interesting soups and seafood dishes as well as the standard Mexican dishes, and the prices were very reasonable. Definitely a great stop while traveling. read more

We decided to eat dinner here on a Saturday night since we were staying at a hotel nearby. There were so many other options for Mexican restaurants but I'm so glad we went with this one! The service was amazing I wish I had our waitresses name, she was super sweet. The guacamole is AMAZING. Made fresh in front of you and you can choose from a small ($7) or large ($10) The dinner portions were HUGE. We are from florida and we were not used to the big portions for such a good prize! On top of that the food was great, just wish the beans had a little more seasoning. Overall I would definitely stop here again if I had the chance. Our bill for two soft drinks, an appetizer, and two dinner came out to $43 (without tip) which I believe is a GREAT DEAL! They also have a menu for daily specials! After driving for 12 hours, we were in need of a couple margaritas. Found them here. We mentioned this to our server, Kasandra, and suggested may a pitcher would do. We got a tower of margaritas that sat on the table and had a faucet on the side to do refills. We had numerous refills. They were very good. We were there on a Tuesday, and Kasandra told it was Taco Tuesday. My wife had one beef, one pork and one chicken. I just had one beef and one pork. They were very good and very inexpensive. The entire evening couldn't have been better. The food was very good, the margaritas were good and the server couldn't have been better. If we are back in the Statesville, NC area, we will make it a point to come back here. read more

Welcome addition to the Statesville dining scene Charanda closed awhile back and Los Compadres Mexican Grill opened in it's place. Had lunch for the first time today and it was a pleasure.Not much has changed in the dining area except it seems brighter and in the area behind the bar, it's been opened up and now you can see the outside through the rows of bottles. Much birghter and lighter in theme Menu has changed somewhat. More upscale with better selections. Gone are Special #5 or #6 or what ever which was more of a sampler and now replaced with a more traditional meal. Of course it all starts with Chips and Salsa and this was the first place I noticed a difference. The salsa was fresh an spicy with a homemade flair and with good character. Big improvement over the rather bland offering from the predecessor. For my entree, I order the Steak Fajita and it was excellent. Came out of hot metal pan still sizzling. Plenty of meat with just the right amount of pepper and onions mixed in. Only problem was the portion size was such that I needed more than the two flour tortillas they served me. For the side, I ordered the beans which were very good as well. Service was great and the servers did an outstanding job. Highly recommend and I will be back. read more

Driving down 77 on the way home to Charlotte and my husband found this place thanks to Yelp. The service was great. We were greeted right away. Our chips, salsa and drinks were brought soon after. The food came out fast which was even more exciting since we were hoping for a quick stop. I got the shrimp & chicken con crema. It's not on the menu but Pollo con crema is so for an up charge of $3 I added shrimp. It was really good but I only received about 4 shrimp for the up charge. Think I'll go either all shrimp or all chicken next time. The portion was so large I could only eat half and took the rest home for lunch the following day. I'll definitely consider this any time I'm driving down 77. read more

This was a great find especially for the convenience of being right off the highway. It was a beautiful day and we were so happy to see the patio seating. The staff was friendly and the chips and salsa was great- not watery, not too Spivey- though I did ask for mild!! We ordered so many things- enchiladas verde- fantastic- street tacos- perfect, and pretty presentation- the tamale was quite dry- we actually only took 2 bites but the rest of everything was fantastic. Wow! My husband and I were pleasantly surprised with Los Compadres. We came here after driving for 10 hours on our way to Charlotte. We were staying in Statesville for the night and saw this Mexican restaurant was nearby with good reviews. First we ordered 2 premium margaritas with 1800 tequila. They were $12, huge, and delicious. We also ordered al fresco guacamole. It said it would be made to order and it was however we would have liked less lime and more cilantro and heat. The house made salsa was delicious and we could've had just that and been satisfied (for appetizers). For entrees, I ordered the steak and shrimp fajitas. They were well cooked and served faster than we expected. My husband enjoyed los rancheros and enjoyed them. I'm not sure if we will be in the area anytime soon but I'm sure we will stop by if we are! read more

The food was fresh, I'll give them that, but I'm from Texas, and this was nothing like good Mexican food. Hardly any cheese on the enchiladas. Ranchero sauce was BLAND. Verde sauce was good. Queso (cheese dip) is made with mozzarella, a sacrilege in Mexican cuisine. I've never seen white queso, so had to ask. Enchiladas need a chili sauce (make a roux with oil and flour, stir til golden brown; add lots of chili powder, a little cumin, a little cayenne, garlic, salt and pepper, brown some more; add veg or chicken stock, let thicken to a medium thick sauce) and lots of cheddar. They have no cheddar in the place; I asked. Best part of the meal was the chips and salsa. If you like bland food, you won't be disappointed, but this is a far cry from Mexican food or Tex mex. The front desk lady recommended another Mexican joint but Yelp steered us here. Food was excellent. Three of us got Chori-pollo, one got the special, which was a Hawaiian burrito. Everyone agreed the food was amazing and the salsa was one of the best Mexican salsas I've had, top 3 for sure. And I've ate a lot of Mexican. The margaritas though weren't very good at all. Restaurant was pretty big and on a Saturday night we didn't have to wait to get seated. Our orders did come out messed up, but the server was quick to apologize and fix it. The chips and salsa that were delivered immediately as we sat down were superb! Nice spicy salsa and homemade chips, served warm! Great start! I ordered the chimichanga with ground beef. It came out on a plate that was 12" round with rice beans and fresh lettuce. The cheese sauce served on top was very delish. My husband had the enchilada ranchero and he was very pleased with it.
