Amazing Mexican restaurant with very authentic Mexican food. I love how the natural light and colorful decor make the restaurant feel so vibrant. I started with a tamarind agua fresca, one of my favorites if you enjoy that perfect balance of sweet and sour. My friend ordered the steak burrito. I was heading to a concert right after so, I decided to keep it light and went with the steak tacos. The corn tortillas were incredible, and the meat was tender and full of flavor. Hate to bag on a small business but everything is not for everybody. Zero ambiance, slow service and good but overpriced food. Second time and both times they acted like I was bothering them. Incredible Mexican food with a great outdoor space! The fried chicken tacos and carnitas burrito were excellent, and I really loved the guacamole with fresh tortilla chips. Our server was wonderful. I will say, there was a decent wait between sitting down and ordering and then again with receiving our food - but we are still in a pandemic and people/businesses are doing the best they can (it's a small establishment with only 1, maybe sometimes 2 servers). I am in a mission to find the best birria tacos in the city. The posting of the birria tacos on Instagram every weekend made me want to try. I placed my order over the phone and was told that my order would be ready in 15 minutes. When I got there my order was ready. I opened the styrofoam container and found three lamb birria tacos with a lot of meat in it. There's only one layer of tortilla, which made it not to be a heavy meal. However, I was expecting a crispier tortilla the way they were depicted in the Instagram. It's also missing slices of lime. They include green and red salsa. I'm not a big fan of the green salsa. The red salsa add the flavor to the tacos. It gives enough heat without overpowering the flavor. The consommé to my surprise has some rice and chickpeas in it. It's quite savory but a little bit greasy. You can see the grease floating on top of the consommé and it took a couple of hand wash to remove it from my hands as eating the tacos is a messy process. It's very hard to keep the tacos together because there's only one layer of tortilla. Overall it's a pretty good birria. It's doesn't have a strong gamy flavor from the lamb. read more

This unassuming spot consistently serves some of the best Mexican food I've had in Philly. It's the only place in the city where I've had a decent taco, the burritos and nachos also excellent, and the salsa is top notch. Seems like a family run spot, so I'm happy to support them. So I haven't had much mexican food in Philadelphia- mostly just in the suburbs or on road trips from the city. I've had it a few times recently and this place has made me remember how much I love all things Mexican! The tacos were simple but stacked with meat and they came with all of the accompaniments like lime, cucumber, cilantro and spicy, fresh sauces. The enchiladas were very soft and flavorful, and the chicken inside was cooked perfectly. You can tell them make everything as you order but, but the wait wasn't absurdly long, only at the end when getting the check was it a little extra time. On a lazy Sunday, not a huge problem. Order takeout if you're in more of a rush, or just enjoy the process, grab an agua fresca, and wait it out! read more

This place has the best burritos I've ever had. I am fully aware of the gravity of that statement. I have had A LOT of burritos in my day. I am incredibly picky about them and Mexican food in general. But this place? Hands down THE BEST BURRITO. The texture, the filling, the flavor is all perfect. Best part? It is still good the next day, or 2 days later! Why might this be an issue? If you can't finish your burrito (don't judge) or you know you're going to want to eat one the next day and you buy 2, or maybe you bought 2 for yourself and your partner and they don't want theirs (bonkers, I know). They also have decent tacos, nachos, and probably some other stuff but to be honest I always just get the burritos and we are so happy every time. I went to Los Cuatro Soles tonight for my birthday dinner and had the most awesome experience! I made a reservation earlier in the week for ten of us and I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted, but when we showed up it was already prepared for us. They gave us a cart to set up all our booze and cut up our limes for us. Then brought chips, red and green salsas, and pico de gallo. Then the courses came! See the pictures cos I'm not a good writer. A salad of nopales, radishes, and cotija was the first. Next were perfectly flaky shrimp empanadas with spicy mayo. And then sopes with steak and vegetarian ones too. And then warm banana chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Everything was so delicious and beyond our wildest expectations. They made the entire experience so special. My entire party was so happy and decided that we must gather here again next month. read more

Ok, once again I find myself in the Upside Down world from my fellow reviewers. Just had lunch at Los Cuatro Soles, ate about half of my quesadillas. Chicken and cheese (they were out of carnitas and steak at 12 p.m.) Zero flavor, as in the null set! Slight corn flavor from the tortillas, but that is it. My SO had three el pastor tacos. OK, a bit of flavor here. But not much. She ate one of the three. I also had a $6.00 plate of rice and refried beans. Got about 5 tablespoons of each. Not bad compared to the other tasteless options, but not great. And tiny portion. That is my biggest beef, but as the kitchen is cooking everything to order the wait time was about 30 min. There was all of two other couples in the restaurant, and the one couple had to get their order switched 'to go' as the wait was longer than their lunch break. So, this was an all around FAIL for me. Not sure what I'm missing that the others have found worthy of 4+ stars, but clearly their luck is better then mine. read more

Nothing beats having good accessible Mexican food just blocks away from home. The roommates and I were craving some Mexican food and wanted to bring our own booze. Walked a few blocks to the nearest corner store to grab some bottles of beer and made our way to this quaint Mexican restaurant. Last time we had Mexican, we ordered way too much food not realizing that the portions would be huge so we decided to take it easy here. We got some guacamole and chips to share between the three of us and got individual plates of the taco al pastor, a chicken burrito and a plate of mole poblano. The food did not disappoint - fresh ingredients for their guac is a good sign of nice flavors for the rest of the meal. Once again, we couldn't finish our meals, but not for lack of deliciousness rather the size of the meal was large enough to feed another 2 guests. You can't go wrong with your meal here - meats were well seasoned and moist, sauces were on point, and all the garnishes were fresh. The service was a bit slow but good food always makes up for it all. Definitely adding this gem to the list for future visits. read more

Can't give enough thanks to the folks behind Los Cuatro Soles for making my birthday a smashing success! Fact: it's kiiiind of difficult to find a place that will take a reservation for 14 people at 2:45 on a Sunday, won't require your large and unruly party to do a pre-fixe option, is BYOB, affordable, and most importantly- has delicious food. This place fit the bill on all counts! I called the Wednesday beforehand to see if they'd be willing to take us, and was greeted with a "Sure, no problem! Do you need/want a special menu? No? Great! See you then!" Couldn't have been easier. When the day arrived, I was pretty pumped for food since I was A) drunk and B) the yelp photos I had previously stalked looked AMAZING. We started with chips and guac for the table, and I'm not kidding when I say this was the best guac that's ever graced these lips. You must get. They kindly whipped up some super tasty and tart margaritas with the abundance of tequila that we brought, complete with fresh mint leaves! Nice touch. At this point we're all pretty happy campers, but it only gets better from here. I ordered the steak fajitas for my main. You get a choice of corn or flour tortillas (I opted for flour) and the dish comes with rice, beans, peps and onions. No cheese, though, but to be honest I didn't even miss it! The steak was seasoned so perfectly, and the portion was generous enough that I could bring some home for the next day's lunch. This is the kicker- they allowed us to serve a big cake that a friend brought in. A lot of places aren't cool with that, but they were so friendly and accommodating all the way through. TL;DR - Cute, Mom & Pop Mexican joint with tasty food. This place needs more customers! My wife and I have eaten at Los Cuatro Soles twice now, including one time with her family. All of us have yet to eat something we didn't really enjoy - from tacos to burritos to enchiladas to nachos. The prices are what you would probably expect from a small Mom & Pop spot - $10 burritos, $8 for 3 tacos, $12 for many of the platters (and of course, free chips and salsa when you sit down). Solid value. My only potential quibble is that I didn't love the horchata - not quite the right consistency. I still think this place makes it to 5 stars though. On a more personal note, I'm really hoping more people check this place out, whether to eat in or grab takeout. The staff are friendly and they've clearly worked hard to make the decor look great. Both times I've been there it's been slow, so please give this place a shot! read more

Messed up on making reservations for dinner and accidentally made it for this place. My god am I glad we accidentally made the reservations here. This place was by far the best Spanish/Mexican food that I have ever had. It's a small restaurant with limited seating, but if you can... sit down and enjoy your meal at the restaurant. The atmosphere is great. Spanish music playing, beautiful decorations, drinks flowing, it was amazing. The main guy behind the counter who seated us and waited on us was absolutely incredible. He was beyond friendly and offered advice on how to best enjoy the food. Everything was authentic and delicious. I live about a half hour away, but I will drive into the city just for this place. I also don't leave reviews, but this place deserves one! Like I said, the staff, food, atmosphere, and prices are amazing. There isn't a single bad thing about this place. I have been going to Los Cuatros Soles for over 2 years and the quality has become worse over time. I excused the hike in prices due to hard times but I can't justify paying $13 for a burrito anymore. Food is average at best. Plus the teenagers that serve customers (I assume they are family) are unprofessional. I will no longer be going there. read more

Quite surprised about this new finding. I'm really recommend their tacos. The space is pleasant and clean. The decoration and tables resemble a traditional living room from a Mexican hacienda. Service is good and fast. Is not an upscale place but is still nice so you could take a date there (plus is not expensive). read more

I really like this place and there are not as many solid Mexican spots this side of Broad. If you live in South Philly, West of Broad, it's super convenient. None of the food has completely blown my mind, but all of it has been very, very solid. Particularly, their steak and cactus is quite good as are their salsa verde enchiladas. The service can be really, really slow because it is a family run spot, but they are very accommodating. I had a party here, and they did a great job with us. BYOB as well.
