I came here for the first time last week and when you walk in the mouthwatering scent of grilled meat fills the air. They have a large menu so I went for something basic, the smothered chimichanga. It wasn't basic by any means. It was delicious. I saw a lot of customers enjoying their grilled meats on table top grills. Their drink menu is large as well. I came back w my husband yesterday and got the chimichanga again lol. I will be back to try some of their grilled items! read more

A few years ago this was the best Mexican food spot I'd ever had but the last time I went, the food had gone downhill by a lot and the prices just no longer equal to the quality. My boyfriend and I love taking home left overs but we had no interest in bringing any of the food home, and only took a few bites off our plates to begin with. If you're looking for a solid reliable Mexican restaurant where everyone can be happy even the kids, then you've found your place. Excellent customer service each time I go. (Which is about twice a year for the last 5 years). They can accommodate large groups. They have tvs with sports playing, (no sound unless you're in the bar). They are great at keeping their yummy chips and two different salsa coming! My husband specifically commented on the meat in his mexican bowl. I tried it also. It was very tender and had LOTS of flavor. I appreciate their clean bathrooms. Everytime I have gone, their bathrooms smell good, and are nice and clean. (thank heavens). We eat inside as it's on a very busy corner. It does have outside dining with cool lighting as well. Their hosts do a good job as well. I noticed their prices have gone up bc of inflation I'm sure. Yet they're still reasonable and you get a huge amount of food. I like it when restaurants are NOT stingy with their chips and salsa. So thank you!!!!! There was minimal redemption for Los Cucos, and that redemption is based on: 1. We received decent sodas; 2. We had a reasonable amount of attention, 3. The salsa was tasty, and 4. The exterior building environment is impressive and lovely. Since we did a check-in on Yelp when we arrived at Los Cucos, Yelp provided us with a free appetizer, which we redeemed, with an odd reminder from the server that the coupon was in expectation of a review. This did not work out in their favor, as the Stuffed Chicken Jalapeños were pretty bad. Not only did they appear to have been purchased from a big box store and then reheated, but they were also too spicy to enjoy. They were a clumsy, unbalanced appetizer, ridiculously placed over a side salad "garnish" that I stopped eating after two bites to preserve my appetite -and potential enjoyment- for something better. Worse yet, we were given two small plates to divide the Jalapenos, one of which was covered in oil. I figure it was stuck to another plate when sent through the ware-washer. When the entrees arrived, I was dumbfounded by my order of tamales, which seemed to be encased in two brown bags which were loose and wet. If that sounds bizarre, take a look at my photos. There is one taken of the outside and also a close-up of the inside. Having had tamales before, both stellar and mediocre, these were beyond confusing. Suffice it to say, if these are tamales, I've never had them before. And I hate them. The taste was a mash of unpleasant spices and forgettable chicken which tested my ability to detect flavors at all. The sides were a sad combination of typical, unseasoned rice, another peculiar and unwelcome guac-salad, and a lake of refried beans. I stopped eating these after enduring half of one (for you, review readers!). My husband's Green Pork Enchiladas entree was apparently ok, but he is the forgiving sort. It was a mess of ingredients on a plate to me. I had one bite and rejected it, as with the rest of the meal. It was another unskilled collection of unbalanced flavors and textures that were unhappy and sub-par. If you are a lover of Mexican food, I recommend passing on Los Cucos in favor of...someplace else. I'm sure it won't be hard to find a better Mexican restaurant. read more

We really like Los Cucos! Very much Tex-Mex style. The chips and roasted tomato salsa with the cilantro avocado option is always a hit. Our favorite dishes are the fish dishes. They do a great fish! My dad raved about his fish playa azul and my fish tacos were incredibly delightful with the perfect hint of acidity from the lemon sauce. My husband was also very pleased with his chicken nachos, my sister with her beef poblano fajitas, and my mother with her Verde enchiladas. We've always had great service and good experiences here. We sat at the bar here, it was really busy around 6 on a Thursday evening. This place has a lively atmosphere and can seat A LOT of people - it was pretty loud with music on top of the guests. Our service was really slow, though our waiter frequently walked in front of us back and forth behind the bar (close enough to reach out and touch), it was about 10 minutes before we were offered drinks, and another 15 or so before she came back to check on our food order. There were some delicious chips and two types of salsa to tide us over. The first beer from the tap was completely flat, so we ended up ordering out of the bottle. The Paloma was alright, not too sweet, kind of salty. Fearing there may be another long gap in service we ordered our appetizer and entrées at the same time. After sitting at the bar for more than an hour, our appetizer and entrées came out together. By this time we had filled up on chips and salsa and didn't have much of an appetite for the huge plates of food that came out. The seafood nachos were ok, lots of heavy cheese and toppings weighing down the light shrimp and crab. We sat another 15 minutes after we were done with our meal waiting for a check. I ended up taking my tacos home and leaving the rest on the plate, the tacos were great the next day - tender and really flavorful. The food was ok flavor wise, a bit pricey but it is definitely made up in quantity. It was frustrating getting lapped by waitresses seating and finishing up other tables before we even got an appetizer. We were here about 2.5 hours. Come here if you're really hungry and have a lot of time on your hands. read more

I kept seeing tiktoks of this place claiming to be the best Mexican food in Utah and it's far from the best. It wasn't bad but my girlfriend and I both have no urge to return which is a shame because it's so close to our home. First off the outside makes it seem like it's going to be nice on the inside and that's not the case. The vibe is off. Second, the salsa is served hot which is super odd. I like spicy food and asked if they had a hotter salsa which they do but they wanted over $3 for it so I passed. My girlfriend had the birria tacos which were decent but we could think of 3 other places where they're better and cheaper. I had the smothered burrito and it was pretty good but again all I could think about is other places where it's better and also cheaper. I will say their Mexican rice was really good. Overall it wasn't bad but nothing to get excited about. Two meals + two drinks was over $70 and we ordered very basic items. I will say our server was very nice and gave us great service. Decided to come here because of the high reviews but overall, I don't think it was as great as I initially hoped it to be and it was overpriced compared to other Mexican restaurants I have been to over the year. Service was a bit on the slower side. Although we got our water pretty quickly, it seemed like it took more than 40 minutes for our actual meal to come out. There was no more salsa and chips and we received seconds.. that's how long it took! By that time, the group wasn't even hungry and could barely stomach the meal. I ordered the El Gringo and it was pretty good. I liked the hard shell beef taco and the chicken fajitas but felt a bit scammed by it. I received 2 huge chunks of onions still attached to each other and only ate a total of 3 small pieces of chicken. The beans were good, not too salty. The rice had a really unique taste. I think there was a lack of tomatoes in it? I can't quite pinpoint what it was. The complementary flour tortilla was pretty dry when I attempted to add the rice, beans, fajitas and pico de gallo together to create a soft shell taco. Because I was so full from the chips, I had the cheese enchilada to go. As I became hungry at night, I decided to try the cheese enchilada and to my dismay, there was no meat nor vegetables in it, just cheese. I could only stomach 1/4th of it. No refills on chips and salsa even though we said we would pay for more! No Cheese for fajitas! The final brought me a tiny tiny bit and was charged $3.00 more on a $125.00 ticket. Don't nickel and dime me. Never buy the fajitas for 2 people. $50 for 2 and the between the two meats there could not have been more than 8 oz of meat to divid. The rest is over sautéed vegetables. My dining companion had a stuffed steak and commented that it was pretty good. I had a chimichanga that was practically inedible. We ate here about 5 years ago so we decided to try it again for my husbands Birthday. They have a huge menu with lots of options . My husband was wanting something with Mole sauce but the waitress said they no longer serve it . He got a chicken chimichanga with chili verde. He asked to have the beans to the side not inside the chimichanga but they forgot it was still really good . The chili verde is hotter than most we have had. We did tell the waitress about the beans & she gave us $5 off our check which was nice . The chimichanga was really big. It came with rice. I ordered the Mexican bowl . It has white rice , black beans , cheese , grilled blackened chicken , pico, salsa and guacamole. This was really good . I wish it had more rice & less beans. The grilled chicken was vey tender & flavorful with blacken grill marks . They bring you out chips & warm salsa . The salsa is fresh tasting . They brought out a sombrero and put on my husbands head & sang Happy Birthday to him . They also brought out a warm sopaipilla covered with whip cream. First off, the staff was on point. From the moment I arrived to when I left they were 100% customer focused. Drink refills were a tag team effort. Didn't matter who passed by, if you needed a refill they got you one. My server was super nice and fast. Food is always amazing here. Seriously. It may not be a true authentic style food, but it's pretty dang close. The serving sizes are huge and you will be stuffed. The chips and salsa are some of the best in town, especially their brown salsa sauce. It comes out warm and has great flavor. My chimichanga was excellent and I liked that they put the veggies on the side for me to put on. Same with the smothered chicken gravy. My meal was delicious. If you haven't eaten here I advise you to stop by and give it a try. This is also one of the few restaurants that can cater to larger parties as well. Great meal with fast service. First off: their chips and salsa is legit; chips served warm and you get a salsa rona and avocado based salsas. Warning- you will stuff your mouth with just their chips, it's that good. I had an El Ray, which is a combo plate with beef hard shell taco, cheese enchilada, and chicken tamale. Cheese enchilada was terrific, hard shell beef taco stuffed with lots of ground beef. Tamale was a bit of let down, kinda a smushy thing. But lots of meat. Service is exceptional, extensive menu. Would suggest when in Sandy UT area. read more

First time to Los Cucos. My wife and I came for lunch. We were greeted promptly, our order taken promptly but then a very very long wait to get our food, maybe 30 minutes. We asked a bus boy to check on our meal and then 10 minutes later asked a different waitress where our food was. She had an attitude. I'm not sure if they are understaffed in the kitchen or if the waitress forgot to put in our order. Since we didn't see our waitress the entire time I am assuming the order didn't get out in. The poor waiter, as he served my meal, tipped an entire container of the green creamy salsa all over me. it got in my hair and all over my clothes. He sat there in shock as I tried to clean up but didn't bring water or even an extra napkin until I requested it. he said sorry. I assured him it was fine and that accidents happen. I excused myself to the restroom to try and clean up as the manager followed me in to apologize. it was very uncomfortable. I told her it was fine. I sat back down and tried to eat my dinner. They didn't bring a replacement salsa or say much else. Our bill was brought which was around $200. I was shocked to see that my meal wasnt comped. But we paid and got up to leave. As we walked out we told the front desk and manager that while everything was fine, good customer service would have been to comp my meal or do something to try to make up for the uncomfortable mess that was still all over me. Came here today for a quick team lunch. There were 4 of us and we all ordered different stuff. Patty was our server for today, she was very attentive and friendly. If you check in on Yelp when you are at the restaurant, you will get a free appetizer. I chose the Chile con queso, oh my goodness it is SOOOO delicious. Everything tasted so fresh and I would highly recommend this as the appetizer.
