Full disclosure, I've only had one thing on their menu, because this dish is that dang good. My review is on this dish because it's all I come here for: the Mexican Bowl!! It is the best Mexican dish I've ever had of it's kind. Their green sauce dip for the chips is also fantastic. I LOVE ordering extra green sauce for the Mexican Bowl. The Mexican Bowl is perfect on it's own, but their green sauce takes it to a whole 'nother level. I adore the Mexican Bowl for it's flavor, quantity and ingredients. Let's start with the protein. I get the beef. Their beef is everything to me. How can food be everything? I've never had beef this good in my life - except in my childhood when staying at my Mexican grandmother's house. Hence, you can imagine my face, and heart, when I took a bite of their beef!! Core memories unlocked. Ah, the things food can do. The Mexican Bowl isn't spicy either, which is perfect for me. I'm that oddball Latina that can't have food spicier than pico de gallo! Also, the mix of veggies, protein, etc, are just the right portions. Nothing over powers the other. The flavor in my mouth with each bite is like the very first. I highly recommend the Mexican Bowl, consider some green sauce on the side, if you're seeking a great, light, healthy, tasty Mexican dish. At least for me, it's more than a great dish. read more

A reservation for this restaurant was made for a group and was specified that the group would need the space from 6pm -9pm. This was confirmed by the restaurant at the time of reservations and on prior occasions the manager has said this is no problem. The group has 12 people in it and so meals are bought for 12 people which half order alcoholic beverages as well. The group also pays a 20% gratuity. This is perfect, but we had a server who decided he didn't want to take care of the group and would interrupt the game being played frequently and trying to rush us out. He even went as far as telling us that they are closing early. The server mentioned his name is Fernando A. but when asked to remind me of his name he lied and states his name is Javier. We let them know we would be out by 9pm and we had previously confirmed we had till 9pm and the server states "that if we ever come back no server will take care us our table" then states "your not wanted here". This group plays a card game and we sit in the back we clear our dishes off and clean up after ourselves at the end. All that's left is a couple glasses and to finish cleaning the area. This is highly rude and an inappropriate way to care for customers. I would never in a million years eat or recommend this restaurant to others. Fernando A was a terrible server and very rude and inappropriate throwing a "baby fit" because he had to stay and do his job. As for the food it was ok, the area near the bathroom smells of sewerage so this is a turnoff when eating at a restaurant. So all in all I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I think that the staff and the smell is a overwhelming amount of evidence that you should beware of going there. read more

I frequently come to Waco for work and stay right by Los Cucos. Over the years it has become a go to for dinner. It's been a couple months and it seems like something has changed. I went for dinner and I was the only person in the restaurant on a Monday night. The server was sitting in the corner hiding behind an opened menu talking on his cell phone. After some time waiting (the bartender sat me) he eventually took my order. Even though the restaurant was empty my food took 40 mins. When I complained after 30 he assured me it would be out in a few minutes. I ordered the mixed grill Delicioso with seafood which when it arrived had been sitting cooking so long the fish was jerky. There were two tiny overcooked pieces of carnitas. Everything else was over cooked. So disappointing. After 25 visits this is likely my last. Clearly the place has fallen apart. read more

This was my first time visiting a Los Cucos location. We had talked about going and never had a chance. On the way home from Dallas we decided to stop off in Waco and give them a try. I had the small order of beef fajita nachos and they were ok. When the plate came out it looked like something I would make at home...taking a few chips from a bag, arranging them around the edge of a plate, topping them with meat, cheese, etc. and throwing them in the microwave. My boyfriend had the (cheese) tomatillo enchilada platter and he liked it. I had a couple of bites and I agree that it was good but to me also tasted mircowaved. There was an option on the menu to have chicken or beef, he chose neither. However, the platter arrived with chicken in the middle of the food (rather than inside the enchiladas). It's a good thing he's not vegetarian. The complimentary chips on arrival were actually good and the red sauce had decent flavor with just the right amount of cilantro. There was also a creamy avocado sauce with the chips that was pretty good. Our server was super sweet and tried to connect with our dog but he was having no parts of it, lol. The house marg was good as well. So really, the marg, free chips, and good server are what made this visit better than it would have been otherwise. I am willing to give another location a shot as one of my good friends grew up across the street from the original location in Houston and still sings their praises. read more

I went to Los Cucos with my 89 year old mother. One of her favorites is stuffed avacado. We have had this before and it was good. Saturday, we arrived a little after 5pm and there were very few patrons in the restaurant. Our waiter got us drinks and our order properly, We waited about 45 minutes to finally get our food. We both ordered the stuffed avacado, Hers was just the avacado mine was the full plate. Hers was chicken mine was shrimp. Once we got our food, first I unwrapped the fish taco from its aluminum foil. It was warm and wet, so wet I couldn't remove it from the foil to eat it. It was ok. After I started eating my avacado I realized it was also chicken, not shrimp, Neither mine or my mother's was hot, it was barely warm. Since we had waited an eternity to get our food we finished eating. Our waiter came by to ask if everything was ok and I explained the problems. He then had the manager stop by, The manager procceded to tell me they were short handed. As I told him, we came to have a nice meal and while I can be simpathetic, it wasn't my problem. When I explained the issues with the food he simply said "I hope it doesn't keep you from coming again". He did offer to make our entres again which I explained that we don't need to wait another 45 minutes and we've already eaten, No offer to discount any thing, no offer for a discount next time, nothing except please come back. The food is ok. The service is very friendly and pretty good. I did not care for the salsa. It had a different taste. The salsa verde was good. I asked for no cheese on my meal and there was cheese on it, but it was very little and i picked it off. They did have unique dishes there to choose from! After hunting for Mexican and stopping in at On The Border...I know, not real Mexican...and yes; it wasn't a good experience. We left after our waiter failed to show up. This place made up for everything. The hostess was very nice getting us seated. Our waitress was one of the best we've had. The food was excellent. We ordered the San Luis" from the grill (for 2). The Guacamole was excellent as were the drinks, watermelon margarita and mango mojito. The ambience is good. Not overly loud, despite its spacious layout with several tables. I dine out frequently but I don't write reviews but had to share my experience . My fifth or sixth time dining here, but has been more than a year since last visit. Arrived for lunch parking lot was in bad shape. The restaurant is dirty. Our booth was in poor shape cushions ripped . Bartender was our waitress. Ordered 3 drinks. A half filled basket of chips, one small shallow dish red salsa, one shallow bowl small green salsa on table. Ordered 3 entrées and asked for more chips and salsa. . Our lunch entrees were $17.99 each. 10 minutes later asked again for the chips . An employee delivered our lunch entrees begrudgingly gave us one basket of chips and one more small dish of red i salsa and one more small dish 3 inch green salsa. We asked if we could have some more and the bartender rudely shouts the manager says you're not allowed to have anymore. And adds she's not in charge of giving us chips. Requested manager. He stated it's corporate policy. I explained it's not enough chips and salsa for our table. This seemed odd, never had restrictions before. It's a bit ridiculous to have to ask for more salsa and chips multiple times , be ignored , then later be told "this is all you're allowed." Bartender/server never asked if we wanted another drink. No one else was dining there. It was not busy. The portions were noticeably smaller for the $. The corn tortillas are store-bought. The food was mediocre. I still tipped 20% because I feel that's the minimum a server should get but she deserved zero. We will never return. We dine frequently at La Fiesta at Ninfa's, and several other similar restaurants. Please frequent those restaurants. read more

I came to this restaurant with low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised. I read the reviews of unprofessional staff, but everyone I came into contact with was very professional and kind. I got the sweetheart sangria for my drink, which was amazing. I do have a sweet tooth, so if that's not your thing then maybe a different drink will be for you. This was followed by the delicioso grilled special. It was a good portion size for one, and I wasn't able to finish it. However, it was better than I anticipated, and all the meats had a good flavor. Walked in at 8:40 Yelp says open until 10:00 PM!!! Bar tender said she is closed, I asked for manager while I was speaking with her asking about sitting at bar for quick dinner which she refused. Manager walked up to me as I was explaining Yelp posted their hours as open until 10, she kept texting on her cell and ignored me. I was thinking maybe she is texting kitchen staff to see if they could accommodate me LOL! Then pointed her phone at me and said : See, we are open until 9! She was looking up her restaurant on GOOGLE! I opened Yelp and showed her Yelp says open until 10 PM! Manager replied: well, I follow Google!! Unbelievable! This is a very attractive restaurant and I was eager to try it as it's close to my Physical Therapy appointment. I went in at lunchtime, a little after noon and it was moderately busy. I was immediately shown to a booth and my order taken. The service was excellent over all. The chips and salsa were very good. There was also a little bowl of a guacamole-type salsa that was also very good. I ordered a lunch special called El Suegro consisting of a small bowl of tortilla soup, beef fajita taco and a dish consisting of salted shrimp with tomatoes, rice and peppers. The soup was nice but everything else was terrible. The shrimp dish was mushy and overcooked; I couldn't tell what the vegetables were if I tried. The fajita meat in the taco was so tough that I couldn't cut it. I wound up picking out the few pieces of shrimp that I recognized and eating the soup. This wound up being a $25 lunch special that I barely was able to eat. I did give the waitress a nice tip as she did an excellent job. However I don't think I'll be going back because the food just wasn't that good. read more

The El Gringo (crunchy beef taco, beef or chicken fajita and a cheese enchilada) is the best! Delicious Mexican food at every location I visit. The flour tortilla chips that go with the queso are very good, as well as the creamy green salsa. read more

Pleasantly surprised how great everything was. Tried the Parrilla Jalisco - a table side prepared grill with steak, chicken, bacon wrapped shrimp, garlic shrimp, quail and grilled cheese. Accompanied by handmade flour tortillas and a side of rice, pico de gallo, guacamole and ranchero style beans. The order was for two but easily feeds 3 or more. Along with that we ordered the red sangria and pineapple dragon fruit margarita - both really well prepared. Definitely will try more of their menu and drinks! read more

My family and I found this restaurant by accident one night after another place in this same district lost our reservation. To be honest, I'm glad they did. This has become a favorite place for us. They have definitely gained popularity so at times they can be quite busy, but they're always on point. Also, the staff has busted their butts during COVID-related staffing shortages to ensure that each guest has a quality experience. This doesn't go unnoticed and is probably part of the reason people keep coming back. We always get the nachos with chicken and steak fajita. My husband likes the fact that they use shredded cheese as opposed to liquid cheese. This means that you're getting a nice, consistent crunch with each bite instead of soggy chips from the cheese soaking into the dish. The El Sabroso is another amazing dish because it offers a nice sampling of great traditional Tex-mex favorites, from carnitas to enchiladas. The carnitas are out of this world, with a great ratio of lean to fat. They make for a flavorful bite with a great texture. It also pairs well with the tomatillo covered cheese enchilada that comes with this dish. For the kiddos a variety of Tex-mex and American entrees are offered. My daughter loves their friend chicken sandwich, served with a mango or pineapple slushee (yes, they even have slushees). read more

My wife and I had a lunchtime meeting to attend in the Waco area. We were hungry afterward and wanted to get something to eat before heading back home to Ft. Worth. Tex-Mex sounded yummy so I "Yelped" the close by restaurants and Los Cucos sounded like it would be a fun place to dine. We were not disappointed. Los Cucos has a very large menu and lots of lunch specials. I ended up ordering a "Pick 2" with a stuffed avocado and chicken flauta. My wife ordered the crispy taco special. While we waited for our lunch entrees, we enjoyed a basket of hot chips and an awesome duo of red and green salsas. YUMMY! After a short wait, our lunch entrees were delivered to our table. They were delicious. My wife, who is super picky about her taco meat, loved the crispy tacos. Next time we're in the Waco area, we'll definitely stop in to Los Cucos again. read more

Los Cucos has been a consistent place for me. I will say, I prefer their fish entrees over all other items. The fajitas are also really good with cucos sauce. The seafood a la vapor is a steamed foil pack of goodies containing a piece of tilapia with tomatoes and zucchini and lots of veggies. It also has three grilled shrimp on top. I like to drop it in a fresh made flour tortilla. Then it's a fish taco, right? It's a meal big enough for two, or for leftovers. The other one I get a lot is fish Cancun. It's smaller and more delicate than the big foil pack. It's a little like "resort" Mexican food. Try it you'll like it. read more

Food: food is really good. Good ships and amazing sauce. Their green sauce is very unique. I did tried their flautas and they were good. Pretty close to original flavor from Mexico. I ordered the swirl Margarita and it looks like I haven't been practicing the art of alcohol enough. It got me a little tipsy. It is frutie but really delicious. Price: reasonable. Portions are big so it will be great for sharing. Environment: awesome for friends and family. Latin music is paying at the right volume and it is really enjoyable. Unique horse themed decor. Really enjoyed the ambiance. The hostess was lovely & made sure we were greeted and quickly seated for our large party. Service is very responsive and polite. Appetizers were a hit! Highly recommend the shrimp & jalapeño. Sadly, the main courses were a real hit or miss. The kids did not enjoy the chicken tenders- refused to eat after the first bite. Another person on our table did not like the rice. The rest of us were pleased with our entrees. Dessert selection was limited- we had come in for an early dinner so- maybe that's the reason. Overall a 4.5, but I'll round up as I usually do. We had a business dinner here last night and it was almost perfect. Don't get me wrong...the food and drinks are amazing, prices are on point, and the portions are HUGE! We were a party of 5 people, and we all ordered different things. Everything came out piping hot and relatively quick, which was appreciated. I loved my dish, can't remember the name but it was chicken stuffed with shrimp on a bed of some really really tasty rice. The guacamole was so damn good, with chunks of avocado instead of all of it completely mashed. And the service from the bartender was friendly, quick, and with a smile. But the knock for the .5 star was the overall service that I felt was slightly lacking from our server. No introduction, no mention of specials or recommendations. He was friendly enough, but something was just lacking. Also, when we arrived, the place was empty (Tuesday early evening). But instead of pulling 2 tables together for our party, they simply squeezed another chair at the end of a 4-seater, so it felt a bit crammed. But nothing so bad that it would warrant more than a half a star off. Next time I'm in town, I would definitely come back here for the bartender and my chicken dish! read more

Would not recommend to anyone. Staff is poorly trained, the place was dirty, and the food was forgettable and overpriced. Our entrees took 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon at 3pm, and the place looked almost empty. Tables around us sat dirty, and every kitchen area we could see into looked gross and messy. Chips were decent, both salsas were flavorless, tortillas with our entrees were stale and dry. I can't say much about the rice and beans, other than they were there. I didn't eat the beans, as I have a pork allergy and told the waitress, and there was a large unknown piece of meat floating in them so I skipped. Rice was average. I got a green sauce enchilada, which was fine, and my husband said the Pollo de Mar was ok. Spend your time and money somewhere else. read more
