While in Sierraville, just for one evening to try and catch a glimpse of a meteor shower, my dad, husband, and I came to Los Dos Hermanos for dinner. It was one of the few dining options in Sierraville and one of the only ones still open. Funny enough, we happen to come on the last night that they were open before closing for an extended holiday break. It seems like the whole town was there for dinner, but we managed to get seated right away and our server was very kind and attentive. We appreciated the complementary chips and salsa and placed our order. I decided to get their Carnitas with a side of corn tortillas while my dad ordered the chili Colorado with corn tortillas. My husband ordered one of the biggest burritos I have ever seen in my entire life. It was easily the size of his forearm. The food came out fast and piping hot. We all felt that it was tasty but needed a little more seasoning and spice, a little bland. But if you find yourself in Sierraville and craving Mexican food, this should satisfy the urge. read more

On our way to and from Graeagle, I have always wondered about this place. Restaurants with captive audiences are always suspect, but this place was really good. I can usually tell how good a Mexican place will be right when I see their chips. These chips are fried in house and the salsa is nicely fresh without a ton of onion. I got a plate with one shredded beef and cheese chimichanga that came with beans, rice, guacamole, and lettuce. DELICIOUS. I plan on ordering it every time we are in the area. I love this place. A soak at the springs and a nice dinner here is a perfect recipe for a little retreat away from Reno. The service is quick and friendly. The food is delicious, and you wouldn't expect in this little town to have some authentic Mexican food but it is here and thriving. Their specialities are amazing! (:-) I always order a Chili Relleno but usually nothing else. Today I ordered the combo that included a chicken taco. It looks a little over cooked in the picture but it was really delicious. It's been years since I've had an old fashioned fried chicken taco. I savored it. So happy. The Relleno was a perfectly roasted & seeded Anaheim today, stuffed, battered and fried...smothered in a mild sauce with cheese. Everything I expect in a proper Relleno. I do not eat rice so I had extra beans which are a delicious combination of partly almost whole with partly refried. The way I make them at home! I ATE A EVERY LAST BITE. ALL FANTASTIC!!! Our waiter Juan allowed us to have two corn & two flour tortillas in a split order. I even ate one flour tortilla. I'm very full but couldn't leave without trying the HOMEMADE FLAN! Fabulous. Lots of cinnamon and the most heavenly hint of egg in the custard. Sweet YES, but not overwhelmed with sugar flavor. That's why I can taste the egg in the custard. It's a very light delicate flan. It's the way real flan should be. When I asked about it, Juan said it is an authentic recipe from Guadalajara where they are from. So, I asked about other menu items and he said their menu has about 30% dishes from Guadalajara and 70% traditional Mexican we are familiar with in California and Nevada. He said the lamb was another dish prepared as in Guadalajara. It was a beautiful drive from Reno, especially with the dusting of snow we got last night. Los Dos was recommended to us as a very good dog friendly Mexican Restaurant. We drove from Graeagle to dine here since I was craving Mexican Food. The patio area was very weedy (tall weeds) and dirty with run down warped splintery wood tables. We ordered anyway since we were hungry. The drinks, chips and salsa and the food came quickly. The food was ok. A good cleaning, weeding and some new tables and umbrellas would go along way to improve the ambiance of this outdoor patio space. The dog found the crushed rock very uncomfortable to lay on. We got a mat out of our truck for him to lie down on. We will not be return customers. With that being said the inside was very busy so this must be a popular locals spot. read more

I had given up eaing Mexican food in Truckee. Although there are a handful of Mex restaurants here that have their fans, I found them all mediocre, at best. There was (is) one that used to advertise carnitas tuesday (or another day of the week). I went on carnitas day and I was served a boiled spare rib. Seriously. At another I ordered chili verde and was served a watery green broth with neither green chilis nor tomatillos. When I questioned my server she replied: "Oh, we don't put green chilis or tomatillos in our chile verde". Um, not Chili Verde, then. Finally I drove up to Sierraville and had lunch today at Dos Hermanos. Although this makes just one visit, what they have on their menu as carnitas is actually carnitas, excellent carnitas. Salsa is teriffic. Service was fantastic, even though 2 of their regular Sunday servers were not there and they were full capacity. service was still great. The soup/sauce/consume that came with it had an amazing aroma of spices and the meat needed no knife to separate it from the bone; it was so tender and delicious. The place remains a hidden gem with terrific food, reasonable prices, a simple but comfortable atmosphere, and great service. It's in the middle of nowhere (No disrespect intended, but Sierraville is not exactly cosmopolitan or close to anything.) and well worth the trip for first class, fresh, homemade Mexican food. The Albondigas was wonderful, not too spicy, with large meatballs like you'd expect on spaghetti and meatballs. The salsa is tasty without overbearing zip. You know the restaurant is good when it's been around so many years in such a location and people are willing to travel there for the good. We've driven from Truckee at times, and will continue to do so in the future. It's worth the trip. I was not quite sure what to expect in the small little town but wow am I so glad we went for it. Inside is very rooming with plenty of tables the staff was extremely friendly immediately greeted us and the restaurant was nice and warm considering there was in the middle of snow season. There were four of us eating and every single one of our place was absolutely delicious. I am an extremely picky me either when it comes to me so I was quite nervous to take the risk and go further chicken it was perfectly cooked nicely shredded no fat no gristle no nothing it was amazing. I had the enchilada and chimichanga. The sauce you could tell was absolutely homemade and authentic. Nothing was too spicy everything was just right the salsa was fresh the chips were fresh the margaritas were delicious I am not sure if they are using fresh fruit or what but boy did it taste so good. In fact our meal was so good we went ahead and said let's get dessert too which is something I don't normally do but why was I glad we couldn't decide we went with both options the fried ice cream and the flan! All I can say is wow wow wow once again the flavors are absolutely out of this world and not just because we were hungry in fact we weren't even that hungry it was so good we just kept eating.
